My son went to China Chef and spent almost $25 for this awful food! They gave us eggrolls that looked like they were refried 3 or 4 times. They were hard and dried out. I ordered the sesame chicken combination, which came with an egg roll, and I added an extra egg roll on the side. Unfortunately, the meal didn't meet my expectations. Both egg rolls had issues--the filling inside was very mushy, and the outer wrapper was surprisingly chewy rather than crispy. I had also requested the sesame sauce and seeds to be served on the side, which they did, but when I cut into the chicken, the inside was mushy and even looked a bit pink to me. Because of that, I didn't feel comfortable eating it. The only parts of the meal that were enjoyable were the fried rice and the sesame sauce, which I'd rate about a 6 out of 10. The food is always fresh and tasty and the people who work here are excellent. I've had lots of takeout Chinese food in this area and am grateful that this is the one closest to me. I particularly enjoy the diet food options where the vegetables and protein are steamed while the delicious garlic sauce is served on the side. General Tso's chicken or tofu is always spicy enough to be flavorful but not so hot it's hard to eat. read more

We have been customers for 17 years and TODAY was the straw that broke the camel's back for us! Ordered pork fried rice and it tasted like it was 3 days old! Called the owners and was told that they cook the rice to be eaten the same day?? Not to be be eaten as leftovers? Also said didn't care if we ever came back again and wouldn't recook the rice bc we took too long(1-2hrs after they opened) to make a complaint. The order was $10 and some change. I love this little place and order from here often. Now that my husband doesn't have to go pick it up for me, I have it much more often! I'm a big fan of egg rolls and theirs are tasty but they've gotten smaller in the last few years and aren't as good. The Crab Rangoons are excellent but stay away from the items "on a stick". They pre-cook them and reheat them so often they're scorched or hard as a brick. The chicken wings are nothing special either. The boneless spareribs are wonderful and you can have them as an entree on a combination plate as well as an appetizer! The regular fare of Sesame Chicken (or beef,) General Tso's Chicken, Egg Foo Yung, and Chop Suey, are as good as you get anywhere. The really, especially good items are the Sweet-n-Sour items. The batter is just right and it's fried to just the right amount of crispy goodness. Really special items are in the Chef's Specialties main menu. Happy Family will make yours too. Dragon and Phoenix will fly you away! Lemon Chicken, sweet and tangy, yum! Their are many others but I'm having some "dain bramage" and can't think. They are great about taking special requests and will do their best to make your meal a good one. The fried rice is good and so is the lo mein. This is probably my favorite Chinese food place. It has been a struggle finding good Chinese food. I tried this place last night and it was perfect. My husband and I got crab Rangoon and General Tso chicken and my daughter got sesame chicken. The crab Rangoon were perfectly crispy, not over cooked and hard as a rock like I have been getting at many over places. The meat in the general tso and sesame chicken was cooked perfectly, not too hard or extra chewy. The egg rolls were so good too. This is our new go to place for Chinese food! read more

We had take out on Wednesday August 30th at China Chef. We chose moo goo gai pan with rice & hot & sour soup plus shrimp lo mein with pork fried rice & an egg roll. The hot & sour soup was very good, not hot, but flavorful. The white rice was sticky. The moo goo gai pan was bland & was light on the vegetables. The lo mein was greasy as was the egg roll. It was not a good experience. I hope this local restaurant can back on track. I really want to support our local restaurant. read more

These people know how to do it right! We ordered takeout and I got sweet-and-sour pork and beef and broccoli, some spring rolls and crab Rangoon and of course it came with either your choice of fried rice or white rice. They sent it home with the sweet-and-sour sauce in a separate bowl and the pork that came with the sweet-and-sour pork was fried separately and it's amazing. I'm so glad they did not drench my food in the sauce and then left it up to me. I love this place and it's amazing. We eat there all the time and we couldn't be happier! read more

So, I've eaten here around three times. Each. And. Every. Time... The food tastes as if it was cooked a couple times before it was handed over to me. The broccoli this time, the aftertaste was just awful. Like old. The general tso's isn't terrible, but I imagine it's more popular than the beef and broccoli. I will switch over to only eating east China take out from off university parkway. I've learned my lesson here. The food is only getting worse lately. With my last order, everything was soggy, even the fortune cookies. Over $30 for 2 meals and some dessert, and they prompt you to leave a tip when you order online and when you pay in the store. Feels a bit insulting to ask so much money for mediocre takeout food without drinks or table service and you get asked twice to leave a tip. My biggest gripe against most of these take out Chinese is the amount of corn starch they use to thicken the sauce. The thicker the worse for me. Next is the proportion of the spice they add. Of course I'm talking about a dish that I order most often, which actually requires "cooking" and adding ingredients---Moo Goo Gai Pan. Not sure if you know, but most of the popular dishes with brown sauce is two ingredient, brown sauce and corn starch, Duh. This brown sauce is sold to all these restaurants and come in one gallon cans. Not saying that there's anything wrong with that but most places stop with just that. The finesse is how each chef might tweak the can sauce with their own taste. Getting back to my dish, what vegetables they add also displays the chef's attention to detail. After all, before the taste, how the dish is presented (fast or not) is important to my eye's appetite. In all, this place ranks with China Best on Battleground Rd Greensboro for the two best of Chinese fast food take out to date IMO. Anyone recommend other better places, please let me know. As a local, I decided to give this place a second chance because the first didn't go so well. This time was no better. Each time I order the orange chicken combination plate with white rice and broccoli, there is no chicken in the Orange chicken. There is a thick goo, gristle, and bone. They never use white meat chunks. It's always just fat. It doesn't even taste like chicken. My boyfriend got sweet and sour chicken and shrimp. Same deal. No chicken. Just deep fried fat. The shrimp tasted WEIRD. The crab rangoons tasted WEIRD. I just hate this restaurant. Second time I've been ripped off. Never going again. Another nice place to get some Chinese takeout. The people there are cool, and they get your order out to you as fast as they can. I usually get take, and don't eat inside since I live around the corner. I am a fan of the sesame chicken combination platter or the fried chicken wings combination platter. Their egg rolls are always fresh out the grease like a piece of hot fish at a fish fry. They always make sure to include mustard, soy, and duck sauce, and don't mind giving me more than I need if requested. I like this place, it gets the job done. read more
