A quick look: Duck Lumpia (18) - a lot of people love this, but it was just okay for me Crab Rendang Dip (22) - Great crab flavor and curry flavor on chips Bakwan (Fritters) (12) - Skip this. Didn't do it for me Rendang Mamak (28) - Amazing flavor and super tender. This is done very well, but very small for the price. You get about 1.5 handfuls of meat with no sides. Pepes Ikan (38)- This steamed fish had a nice fluffy texture, but dang that's pricey Perfect for client dinners especially if they're exhausted by Italian places that saturate the neighborhood. But nothing I would spend my own money on. Find me at Simpang for 1/4 the price. read more

Got asked to leave while eating! Went to this spot a couple months ago and was very impressed. Came back here tonight and got a terrible service. There were multiple strikes here that were unforgivable. Husband booked seats for 3. My friend and I went in first while he was looking for parking. We came in on time at 6:30pm. The front lady couldn't find my husband name in the reservation. We showed her our invites from resy. She told us that that's not a confirmation. She said she could seat us in the back. Her demeanor was not very pleasant, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. We were seated in a small table for 2 and was given an extra chair. My husband came in and I told him to talk to the front lady. For some reason she found our reservation. We were moved to the outdoor dining area. After we were seated, nobody came to check on us for 15 minutes. Then came Andrew, our amazing server. He was fantastic. We ordered drinks and appetizers. Andrew didn't rush us and instead, he told us to take our time deciding the main course while waiting for our drinks and appetizers. We were having a good time, and ordered additional drinks and main courses which were amazing. While we were finishing our main course, the front lady came in to our table and told us that there's another group waiting for our table and she will bring our check. I want to emphasize here that there was no time wasted on our end. We ordered what we wanted quickly through our server and once our food arrived, we were on a fairly quick pace of eating. The front lady didn't ask whether we were finished eating or failed to give us a heads up that we were on a clock after wasting 20 minutes of our time re-seating us because she couldn't find our reservation. Her demeanor came off as very rude from start to finish. I have never experienced anything like this. We were waiting for our server to come back to order dessert, but the night was essentially over when she felt the need to interject between us and our fantastic server Andrew. All of us were in a terrible mood after our interaction with the front lady. We ordered $200+ worth of food and didn't waste any time. We were hungry and were eat with fairly minimal chit-chatting. There were other guests seated in tables in our area before us and they didn't get asked to leave. We tried very hard not to think it was because of our ethnicity or race. I'm Indonesian in Indonesian restaurant. I invited my International friend to share the culture and ethnic food. This front lady never once apologized, instead she told me that we should have known there's a 1.5 hour time limit. We were never informed about this rule. And I bet there's a table manner to talk to us nicely. This front lady is not a people person, I wonder why she's been put there to greet people. It was Andrew who kept apologizing on her behalf, he took out the whole fish from our check. While waiting for our check, there was a RAT crossing the wall, luckily we didn't experience that during our meal. I read the other one star reviews mentioning about the time limit, the ill manner of staff, and they got kicked out. I can't believe that this is a reoccurring issue!! I thought it was the first time it happened, and I think once was too much. It pains me to know that one of my favorite places to eat is now a tough recommendation to friends because of one staff member. read more

I haven't been here in a few years but when I first came I remember it to be really good. The vibe is really energetic and fun and the restaurant itself is really pretty and dimly lit. We ordered 2 cocktails but they were more appealing to look at than the way they tasted. To start we ordered the indo sate which was by far the best dish of the night. I ordered the Japanese curry which was just very average, it was missing something for taste. The spice was there but the flavor was not. My boyfriend ordered a beef dish that also was the same - spice was there but lacked flavor. The portions here are large and great for sharing or if you're really hungry. Service was pretty great. Food presentation is great but taste is average. Overall we left feeling like we wouldn't return just because we've had better much food in LA and much better food in the same area. read more

This was a tough experience to review. Let me just get out of the way that the food was very good. We ordered a handful of dishes and they were unique, flavorful, hearty and perfectly cooked; it's the only reason this review has a second star because everything else was awful. The service, ambience and details you expect from a place of this caliber and price were frankly inappropriate. Not to mention the appalling and outright dangerous allergic reaction I describe below... We had someone with severe food allergies and the waiter repeatedly assured us everything we ordered was safe for him... he was wrong. When we began to notice an oncoming allergic reaction, the waiter told us there was no point in him doing anything (like check with the kitchen) since the meal was finished. Mistakes can happen, but we were shocked and appalled by this response. Our waiter was mostly doing his best, but it looked like he was working at least 15 tables! So it took forever for us to get his attention, order, get our drinks and food, etc. We overheard our entire section complaining all night about the lack of service and attention throughout their meal. Additionally, the outdoor venue was just not suited for a restaurant as fancy and expensive as Wallflower is. We were seated in the street parklet on backless stools with cars whizzing down Rose; others in our area were on plastic chairs. 0.5/1 for parking: the area is not in the best area, we parked a block east and then when we walked back to our car we passed a row of RVs and there seemed to be an intoxicated man who attempted to throw a bottle at us... so be careful and would recommend parking as close as you can to the restaurant. 1/1 for ease of reservation: we just walked in on a saturday night at 9pm and they were able to seat us right away 2/3 for vibe: the outdoor area is cute but the tables are not super comfortable to sit out, the inside is VERY cool looking, but not super comfortable sitting inside right now due to COVID. It's a very chill / venicey vibe. Exactly what you might expect. 4/5 for food: the food was REALLY GOOD, but it comes out really spicy. I personally can't tolerate too much spice and everything came out spicy. I would recommend asking them to not make it spicy if you can't tolerate spice. We got the: (1) braised beef - AMAZING, the meet was so moist and delicious and it just melted in your mouth (MUST GET) (2) Curry - the curry was really good, but again, comes out spicy so if you can't tolerate spice ask them (MUST GET) (3) Egg Noodles - they were okay, just spicy and no real flavor or interesting texture. We have been coming to Wallflower for awhile and love the vibes, the unique food, and excellent cocktails. Service is always hit or miss (ex: bartenders are nice and knowledgeable about drinks; the hostesses have been stand-offish in the past), but that's fine. Unfortunately it's clear their food quality has changed in recent months. The fried tofu appetizer used to be crispy and was served elegantly stacked on a plate. It was also enough to share. Last night it was 7 small pieces of tofu (enough for one person maybe) and was served in a pile, tossed in sauce in a small bowl like at an inexpensive Chinese restaurant. At $16 for a dish with $2 worth of ingredients, I would have appreciated better presentation. Similarly, the grilled vegetable appetizer ($20) contained 3 pieces of broccolini, 2 small pieces of mushroom, and a few small bits of other unidentified vegetables tossed lazily on a scoop of mashed Japanese sweet potato. Was not a bad meal per se but compared to our experiences here in the past, it's gone downhill. Hope they can get back to where they were because it was great. read more

Side order of rice was undercooked. Dry and crunchy??? Nasi goreng used the same rice which I don't think it's jasmine rice. It's also dry and crunchy. The sambal chili, egg and oil makes up for it. Satay was ok. Lemongrass lemonade is so sour. Wait staff was good and atmosphere was great. If you are here for food. I don't think it's worth it at all for the quality of food. read more

This place is not worth the price! The portions are ridiculously small. When the waiter said he suggests 3-4 plates for 2 pep i knew it was gon be a bad night. The pictures I saw made it look way bigger. The food was average at best. It just shows if its in a certain location it can be priced high. The beef had no flavor, the fish was hard and the curry was okay at best. The duck lumpia was the best part. The drink the waiter suggested (Manahattan) was basically an expensive old fashioned. Came here for dinner on a Friday night. The place was packed when we arrived so I'm glad we made a reservation beforehand. We were seated to our table right away even though we came 10 min early. I really liked the ambiance here; it had a chill vibe with music playing in the background. The music was a bit loud, so we had to kinda raise our voices when we talked. We ordered the Kwetiao Goreng ($18) and the Pepes Ikan ($38). The Kwetiao Goreng was a bit bland and there wasn't much flavor. The Pepes Ikan, on the other hand, was very good (quite spicy so not recommended if you can't handle spicy food). When we asked for the check, we didn't get it until 10 minutes later and when we were ready to pay, we couldn't get the waiter's attention until 20 minutes! Even then, it wasn't our assigned waiter who helped us with it. Another waiter noticed that we'd been waiting for quite a while and helped us process payment. I don't think I'd come back here just because the food was nothing exceptional considering the high price point. The service wasn't up to par either. read more

This place was great. Reservations were easy to come by, which is actually a shame because I wish more people knew about it. The setup is very cozy, with heat lamps counterbalancing the slight coolness of the evening LA air and decorative lighting strewn across the ceiling. The soundtrack was also excellently curated, with eclectic hits such as Deja Vu Affair by Sofi Tukker. I had the Siam Sunray as my drink, which evoked a faint taste of tom yum without being overpoweringly savory. For my meal, I had the Nasi Goreng (fried rice), which overall was superb; I especially enjoyed the crispy egg that came with it. Service was prompt and accommodating to allergies. We came here with 5 girls on a Friday night with reservation. One of the girls had a dietary restriction and the server was very knowledgeable and accommodating. The food is family / shared plates style and everything was delicious, especially the duck lumpia and the ribs. All of the drinks were beautiful and I enjoyed my strawberry mezcal drink. Great ambiance and cozy/upscale dining area. Perfect for a night out and reservations via Resy was fast and easy. For bourbon/old fashioned lovers, the Huo was great as was the Indah. We arrived just after opening on Valentine's Day and hoped to try the fried chicken but somehow they're were already sold out??? Ended up with the Ayam Panggang Rujak and Tahu Gejrot. The tofu snack was great but not as authentic as actual indo street food. The jidori chicken was tasty and perfectly cooked. Will hopefully be back in the future. read more

I have been to this place only once but will go back again. I sat outdoors which offered very good ambience. The energy was good, it was busy but not noisy or chaotic. I'm not sure if the food is "authentic" but it is interesting and tasty. The branzino was fantastic, the crispy beef was very tasty with good texture. The only letdown was the rice, it was served bowl so it was almost cold. I think they could up their rice game by serving it in a covered dish so it stays hot. We had reservations for dinner and were sat outside in the cold at a table that didn't have a heater- it happens, nbd. When our waiter came, my boyfriend very kindly asked him if there were any other seats outside near a heater or if there were any seats inside- before even looking to see if there were any, he looked straight at me and he said " do you want to put your jacket on ?" I looked at him and said yes I was planning on it, I had just sat down and then he continued to rudely say " well I'm just confused because if you're so cold why aren't you wearing your jacket, why don't you put your jacket on first. " I calmly put my jacket on and we asked to just be seated at the bar. He pretty much ruined our experience. Bar tender and hostess were also snarky and not theist friendly. So if you re looking for a spot to go to for dinner where you ll get rude and demeaning service and get mansplained by you're wait staff, look no further!
