WOW WHAT A MEAL!!!! The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous. Cozy and elegant. My sister and I went for lunch with two kids under 6 and felt completely comfortable. Great kid options. The steak tartare was one of the best I've ever had. It was on the menu night before and the chef was kind enough to make us a plate. Loved the oyster selection. Our first visit since they opened about a month and a half ago! My husband, toddler and I joined some good friends for dinner here on a Friday evening. The restaurant is located right at the corner of Hemphill and Magnolia with a convenient parking garage just behind it (they validate so bring your ticket). For being fairly new it was certainly packed! Even with a reservation we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Having said that, reservations are a must! The atmosphere is "upscale casual" - something Fort Worth does right. :) My only complaint has to be that the place was pretty loud so it was hard to really hear our friends without having to speak louder. We even had a hard time hearing the server but he leaned in a bit when he spoke, which helped. Our server was great, I wish I had gotten his name. He made sure our drinks were filled and that we were enjoying our meal. To eat I ordered the braised short rib which came with a side of mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. The edges of my short rib were a bit overcooked but the flavor was pretty good. My husband ordered the Walloon's Chopped Salad, which he said was filling and he enjoyed. To drink I ordered a margarita - perfectly refreshing for this hot weather we've had lately. We were too full to try the desserts after but will definitely be back to try them. There is not really a child-friendly menu here (other than maybe fries) so we brought her some small snacks to eat with us. A good visit overall. We'll be coming back again. read more

It's not often that I make the trek to Fort Worth. After all, who wants to face either the predictable traffic jams on I-30 and the road-ragers fighting to establish a new land speed record? Not I. And after the parade for the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, we decided to obtain some necessary nourishment before facing the journey back east. Acting on a recommendation, we decided to give Walloon's a try. Walloon's is located in a historic building on a revitalized Magnolia Avenue. The interior of the restaurant is attractive and captures the historic charm of the building. After settling in, I decided to be a wicked, wicked, boy and enjoy a rare mid-day cocktail. I must say, it fortified my bravery to face that trip back to Dallas in the next couple of hours. We started out with a dozen oysters. Our oysters were undoubtedly fresh and firm. We happily slurped them up. While I had my eye on the lobster roll or even the seafood mac and cheese, I was mindful of my girlish figure, and stayed with an entrée salad topped with salmon. No complaints there. The service? It was attentive, but a tad on the slow side given the half-full population of the restaurant. But again, no complaints. I'd give Walloon's an enthusiastic thumbs up. And Walloon's put me in such a good mood, I didn't even consider attempting my own land speed record on the crossing back to the Big D. read more

Love the ambiance and can't say enough about the great service! Despite being extremely busy, our waiter made us feel more than welcome and cared for. Drinks: we tried two of the seasonal cocktails. I got the Goddess of War which was refreshing but very very light on the flavor with a hint of cantaloupe. I'd pass on it next time. My husband opted for the gold rush, which was a great balance of bourbon and lemon/honey without being sweet. That was definitely our fave of the two drinks we tried! Starter: we got the spicy tuna crudo per the recommendations of our waiter. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but my husband and I found the flavor's underwhelming. Would probably skip next time. Entrees: the absolute highlight of the meal! I could eat the salmon dish every day of my life...it was seriously that good! The creamed leeks are absolutely genius, and the salmon was cooked to perfection! We also got the braised short rib, which was also tasty and full a flavor. Both of us agreed that the salmon was supreme though! Dessert: the blueberry bread pudding came in a skillet with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. To be absolutely fair about the 3 stars, this is a seafood place and I do not eat seafood. My husband does and said the crab cake was amazing and the gumbo - although seafood-less - was also good and spicy. I had the steak frites which was just ok. The seasoning on the steak was really good but I asked for medium and got medium well to well done. The fries were also well seasoned and crispy. I mainly ate those! We also ordered church lady deviled eggs which were heavily mustard flavored. Not my favorite deviled eggs ingredient but the hubby was a big fan. The seasoning on everything was solid but just didn't align with my personal preferences. The wait staff was attentive, pleasant and very familiar with the menu. Hostess gave a friendly greeting and sat us immediately. The restaurant itself reminded me of an upscale old fashioned cafe - if that makes sense. It was clean and well decorated. Unfortunately, we were sat to the right of the bar and it was - on a Tuesday night - extremely loud and a little cramped along the banquet. Not the bar itself which only had 2-3 people at it but the restaurant seating. Definitely not a romantic dinner location which was fine. The husband would go back and really enjoyed it but if he does, it probably won't be with me. Again, I think this is more personal preference than anything against Walloon's. Well.... Been wanting to try Walloons and now that we have we can honestly say we won't be back. The parking is a hassle. The two old fashion drinks were good by bartender Paul. We first ordered the beignets which were good and the best thing we had tried. Secondly... two cups of a watery clam chowder were served. Had to ask for salt, pepper and some bread . Two slices of toasted bread were brought out completely dry? I had to ask for butter. We then tried the crab cakes which were very disappointing due to being thin, deep fried discs of overly spicy crab mixed with some filler. The same tartare sauce was also served with the beignets. When I told Paul the crab cakes were awful all he did was agree. Shouldn't he have asked us if we wanted something else and apologized or remove it from Our bill completely? When the bill arrives, Paul grabs it and said "OOPS" forgot to add your second round of Old Fashioned. Also we were charged $1 for a slice of bread and .50 for butter? Are you joking? To me this was not professional. Glad we skipped desert. I don't feel this place will Survive much longer considering there were only two other people dining And the height of lunch hour . Both the food and service were great! We enjoyed the redfish beignets with a dill tartar sauce for an appetizer, the cold lobster roll with an herby dill flavorand the pan roasted salmon with delicious leeks and potato in a cream sauce for lunch along with a bottle of chardonnay. We topped it off by sharing a delicious espresso martini and the vanilla bubble was a fun touch. Will we return...yes. Oyster selection was awesome just wish they had a stronger horseradish. The fish beignets are basically fish and chips. They were nice and crispy and the dip was nicely seasoned. Went to Walloon's for brunch with some dear friends. At our table, we had trout almandine, salmon Benedict, blueberry pancakes and the mussels. Everyone loved their food. I had the mussels, and I can say that they were large, sweet and delicious. The broth was rich and very tasty. The service was impeccable. Arturo assisted us, and he was knowledgeable, friendly and very attentive (but not intrusive). The building is classic and historical, yet feels updated in a good way. Drinks were very good. What a great new place on W Mag! We had no idea where we were going for din din, then stumbled upon Walloon's and are so glad we did. The food was phenomenal - we had the redfish beignets, the seafood mac n cheese and the bread pudding - all top notch! (see pics) Menu is on the smaller side, but that meant our food came out very quickly which was a nice touch. Service was wonderful, the bartenders were very attentive, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. Not sure about the waitstaff, but they all appeared to be doing a fantastic job. Ambiance was nice from what I could tell sitting at the bar and the decor was very fitting for the style they were going for. Cute place. Really probably a 3.5, but that is not an option. The really good: Location is gorgeous, they validate parking in an adjacent garage, they have decent Tequila. Hubs gave the Italian Beef and the Calamari Salad high marks. The raw oysters were fresh, cold and come with a really solid setup and presentation. The ok: Food is solid, but nothing special. Devil Eggs, good, just plain ole deviled eggs. The Redfish was good, but overpowered by a red sauce. Included mussels and a couple of large shrimp which were better than the Redfish. Think of it like a Ciopinio...flavor was nice, but probably wouldn't order again. We tried all the desserts and the only one I would get again was the off menu peach fried pie. Nothing bad, just you know, fine. Paloma was good and appreciate the decent Tequila, but again, nothing special. I really had hopes for Walloon's. Service was just average and the meal was just slightly better. Does a lot of stuff very right. Drinks are fantastic, service is friendly, ambiance is relaxed and homey. Beignets are hands down best appetizer; sauce is fantastic too. You can't go wrong with the Italian beef sandwich or the braised short rib - both are fantastic. Only thing I didn't like was the lobster roll, which is a total ripoff at 30$...I don't say that lightly...but the measly amount of lobster didn't fit the price point at all. And it's more of a lobster salad than a roll. I'll continue coming back for those beignets, fun coffee martini, and that Italian beef sandy. Maybe try that burger next. read more

Five stars may be a little gracious, but everything I had here was really good, and since this is a place I probably won't visit very often, (tad expensive for me) I'm just gonna lay it out there. Went late evening on a weekend night but still pretty busy. Hasn't been open a long time, several months. Figured there would be a seat at the bar, and there was...one seat available. Sat down, bartender quickly dropped off menus, and I ordered a negroni cocktail. Drink tasted really good and was well made. For $13 bucks it better be. I honestly intended to grab an appetizer and be done, but the braised beef rib was calling to me. I ordered the redfish beignets for an app. Those arrived shortly. There were fresh outta the fryer and they were good and hot. Instead of grabbing and dipping, I cut them in half and used a fork. That way I didn't have to sit and wait for them to cool. They were...damn good. Sometimes I get a little goofy over fried fish stuff, but these fish balls were fantastic. I think I got eight to an order. I ate half and then took the rest and gave them to a couple of people I know that was on my next stop and they loved them too. The pics of the braised beef rib looked to good to pass up, so I went ahead and ordered it, along with another negroni. The meat was tender and tasted great. The mashed potato's were good and the carrots were tender. I was glad I ordered it. The only thing I didn't care for was the funky, pickled/grilled onion on the plate, ugh. Anyway, drinks were good, food was good. Nothing bad about the visit. Service was quick and friendly, and they boxed and gave me extra dipping sauce for the redfish beignets I took to go. All in all, $82 before tip. A little pricey for my pay scale, but I hope to come in and try a few more things before they cancel my credit card. read more

Service was very good, moved quickly and ensured all our needs were taken care of but didn't linger or make us feel we had to leave.
