The attractive vintage-inspired space and well prepared food were overshadowed by the high prices and the poor service. $50 for a dozen oysters. $14 for 5 deviled egg halves. When taking our order our waitress said " do you want french fries, the chips just come from a bag." no mention of the up-charge. Make sure you ask how much anything is going to cost that isn't explicitly stated in the menu. They won't volunteer it. What really put a damper on the experience was the service. Our waitress asked us if we wanted drinks, and when we said no thanks, we just wanted dinner, it clearly upset her. She behaved inappropriately at every interaction. Loudly interrupting anytime she came by. She also brought by a to-go container before we were done eating (hint hint). At the end of the meal, she looked at me and asked "Are you the one paying?" Very odd. I still tipped well on the $200 bill (for 3 people), and when we left, we walked past her, and she didn't say goodbye or make eye contact with anybody in our party. I suppose that I could have been more vigilant in understanding the pricing, but as far as the service is concerned, a restaurant that is marketing itself as a sophisticated establishment should probably find servers that reflect that. read more

While it was lovely to catch up with my girlfriend and the company was absolutely wonderful, unfortunately the food and service at Walloon's were a disappointment. We were there for almost two hours because the service throughout the meal was so slow. To be fair, the beignets, which we ordered first, were actually very nice, but after that, things went rapidly downhill. My mimosa took about 20 minutes to arrive, and my friend's lemonade took nearly 30 minutes because it had been forgotten. We ordered the salmon salad. The bowls of salad arrived first, and we sat with them in front of us untouched for about 20 minutes before the salmon was brought out. The salad itself was simply a bowl of lettuce -- no tomatoes, croutons, or anything else to add flavor -- and the piece of salmon that eventually arrived was about 3" square total. A few bits of lettuce and a very small piece of salmon for $28 felt very underwhelming. The salad was completely bland and they brought us some extra dressing and salt and pepper to try to spice it up a bit, but really it did not help. It actually seemed like they were aware that this salad is bland. To their credit, the manager did remove the salad from the bill after we explained the situation. They also brought us a chocolate mousse with cream (which we paid for) because clearly, we were still hungry. The chocolate mousse was also underwhelming just plain chocolate mousse with a dab of cream on top. No imagination foodwise at this restaurant at all. We left the waitress almost a 30% tip because we know wait staff depend on them, NOT because of the service. The restaurant has great reviews, so not sure what happened on this visit!!!!! In the end, the highlight of the lunch was definitely the chance to spend time with my friend. Sadly, the food and service just didn't live up to expectations -- we ended up stopping for a slice of pizza on the way home. Love this place! It's like a little slice of French brassiere in FTW. Delivered on the drinks, yummy oysters, and a delicious steak frites.

Had a hometown friend come to visit, and they wanted to try this place. We arrived on a Saturday - brunch time. It seemed pretty empty when we arrived so I think it may have been right as it was opening. I tried the french toast and it was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The rest of the table had the Crispy Calamari Salad, Blackened Shrimp Caesar, and the Lobster Roll - and I will say that the table was relatively silent as people dug in! We topped it off with drinks all around - margaritas, paloma's and I believe a alcohol-free beer. Our waiter was very friendly, lively even, and seemed excited to talk about what the place had to offer, so that made us excited to try things out. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be back to try other parts of the menu. read more

I made reservations at Walloon's to celebrate my mom's 65th birthday and my sister-in-law's 35th birthday. Carrie provided a wonderful dining experience. She went above and beyond -- writing birthday cards, lighting candles in the bread pudding, and truly making the evening feel special. We were so appreciative of the effort she put into celebrating our family. Unfortunately, shortly after dining, my entire family became violently ill with food poisoning symptoms. It has now been over 12 hours and we are all still extremely sick and have missed a full day of work. I called as soon as the restaurant opened and spoke with a manager who told me they would call back. We never received a return call. For a nearly $500 bill and an entire family sick with no follow-up or resolution, the lack of customer service has been incredibly disappointing. While our server was exceptional, the aftermath and complete absence of response from management has left me extremely dissatisfied. Sadly, I cannot recommend dining here based on this experience. read more

What a great restaurant! First of all, the location on Magnolia is awesome and the decor is such a great combination of retro and modern. The bar is significant, and the bartenders are super friendly and talented. We had cocktails and then sat down for dinner. There are many options on the menu, but it is primarily a mix of seafood with some land options. We started with a dozen oysters and asked for the chef's choice, which consisted of three different kinds (all of which were delicious). I highly recommend the wedge salad, which included the perfect amount of blue cheese, dressing, and bacon. My wife had the salmon, and it was spectacular. Walloon's has a highly suggested place since moving to Fort Worth. I recently visited for dinner. I ordered the espresso martini and lobster roll. The martini was good, and the lobster roll was ok. I would recommend ordering the roll for lunch and replace the chips with fries. The service was friendly and the restaurant was fairly quiet. I would return to grab a drink and maybe an appetizer. You instantly get the feeling that this is a a great place to grab a cocktail (or several) and have some small seafood plates at the bar, especially for a happy hour. I wouldn't say that Walloon's is a restaurant so much as a great bar that serves seafood, as the horse-shoe shaped bar is the centerpiece of this lively, fun, and loud place. The redfish beignets seemed to be a popular, so we opted for those as our appetizer, and after trying them we could definitely understand why. Tender pieces of redfish encapsulated in a batter both doughy and crispy. To me, these were the best item we ordered and I would say are a must order for your first time. We followed up the beignets with Mussels and a Lobster Roll sandwich, both were great as well. We were definitely pleased with our Walloon's experience and plan to come back to try more of the eclectic menu - specifically the BBQ Shrimp, the Italian Beef, or the Seafood Mac and Cheese. The restaurant is gorgeous and I love the area as well. Parking is a little bit questionable but we were able to snag some on the street on a Sunday evening. I did feel that the menu had an extremely fun, coastal vibe while the restaurant and decor itself was more modern and elegant, but I'm sure this is something that will come together with time. The oysters were good. Some were on the smaller side, but the mignonette was so delicious it was worth it. They did not provide small utensils with the condiments so I'm not sure if that was just a one off. One thing I loved is that they provide thinly grated horseradish with them! It was such a refreshing twist on what I am used to from other local restaurants. The redfish beignets were heavenly. Like little fish nuggets in a perfect fish and chip batter. Loved the sauce it came with as well since it had tons of flavor and tooons of dill. My fiancé got the steak frites. I did not try his steak but I tried the fries and au poivre and they were incredible. So flavorful, perfectly salted and worked really well alongside the apps we got. I had the redfish and it had a delicious broth with lots of flavor. It came with sourdough to dip as well as mussels and shrimp. The fish was tender and well seasoned too. I had to ask for a spoon (I think anything this broth heavy should come with one) but it was truly 10/10 and I could have drank it with a straw. We didn't make room for dessert but there's always next time! I am sure they are working through minor changes as they've been open less than 2 months (or something like that) so looking forward to watching this place evolve and grow. read more

Walloon's is the latest brain child of Marcus Paslay. I am super excited they are open and you will be too. The food is amazing! We started with the Tuna Crudo and the Redfish Beignets. The red fish beignets were kind of like delicious little nuggets of beer battered fish. For the main course we had seared redfish, and the lobster roll. Oh my gosh, that redfish dish was NOT fishy and when you pull your bread through the sauce and take a bite of that combo, your eyes will roll in the back of your head! We finished with the Affogato and the "something chocolate" which turned out to be something like a chocolate ganache, mixed with a chocolate pot de creme with a slight hint of salt on the end to keep it from being too sweet. This was a hot mess!!! Arriving for lunch to a place that was over 2/3 empty...asking the hostess if our table of 4 could sit at this round table of 5 and her answer was NO THATS FOR LARGER GROUPS! She proceeded to tell me how busy the lunch rush is. Well the place never got busy the table stayed empty and therefore we were uncomfortable for no reason. Training people training! I wish this restaurant has more varieties of seafood dish. For example seafood chipinno , or pasta, they show nice prawns on the display but not many shrimp on the menu. ( only shrimp cocktails.) So I had mussels for main dish. I was expecting mussels and fries like I get in Belgium. This restaurant has mussels pot but the mussels they serve is only one pound not two like in Europe. I was disappointed for my mussels because they prepared with red cayenne peppers. It was not described in the menu so I'm not a fan of spicy food. I wish the restaurant told me if it was spicy. The mussels pot I get in Europe is never served spicy so that was very disappointing. However the wine cream sauce in the mussels pot was delicious. My server was great. He is experienced and very talkative. He was very professional and friendly. I see this restaurant has a lot of potentials. They need to work on their menus. Also, the chef needs to work on the food. Temperature preparation. Soup should be hot not lukewarm. I had their chocolate mousse. It was good but too sweet. We had a fantastic lunch! Walloons has been one of our "yeah we should try it someday" places for a while now and I'm so glad we finally came. The service was great: our server took care of us but wasn't overbearing. Our server recommended the Tuesday redfish taco special and she's right: it was delicious. The fish was flaky and tasty, fresh, and really hit the spot. A couple of drinks and it was time for dessert. They're rolling out their Christmas menu so we were able to try the apple cobbler with vanilla cinnamon ice cream and I wish I had taken a photo of it for this review. It too was great! Actually had pieces of crisp apple vs the slurry you get other places. The pastry on top had good texture too and happily golden brown. I also got to try their seasonal eggnog and it was good too! I've had this new spot saved to try and I'm so glad we did. The interior is so cute, I love the converted bank vault, Oyster bar and 1920s lamps. The restaurant was busy but not full. We had difficulty getting a chair for the 9th person as they kept insisting 5 people could sit along the bench seating in front of four small tables. Um, maybe 5 kids but not 5 adults while also being able to use our arms. Despite us trying their recommendation and it not working, we still had resistance multiple times from the Manager. Ultimately we got the chair but we were made to feel like we were a problem. Not a good feeling when you're there to support. Our server was not welcoming or the nicest. They could stand to take some lessons from close by Ellerbe's and chick-fil-a. Being a newer restaurant, I'd expect them to provide a warm or enthusiastic welcome, ask us if we've been there, have any questions about the menu, or offer to explain their specials or menu items. Nope. Not one. Once we asked, he did tell us about his favorite recommendations. Once we got our drinks, he was attentive about keeping them refilled as needed. Appetizers: Deviled crab dip ($18) - large portion of dip served with small portion of bread. We ended up having to ask for more. It was meh. Wouldn't order again. Served with a dill dip. Would order this again. Salad: I can't resist a good Wedge Salad so I got one ($14) to split with another guest. It was served on a piping HOT plate! A first for me and I'm unsure if it was a mistake or something unique to them that wasn't given explanation. I definitely prefer my salad on a chilled or room temp plate. The salad was good with a decent amount of onions, tomatoes, bacon, & blue cheese with a good ranch dressing. A couple got the Walloons Chopped Salad ($19) for their entrees and said it was okay but left a little something to be desired. Entrees: I got Steak Frites ($39) for my entree. The 6oz steak was cooked as ordered. The sauce au poivre was salty but really good! The fries were very good- crispy with great flavor. Two got the Trout Almandine ($27) and enjoyed it except one's plate was "doused" in butter which she didn't appreciate. Two others got the Lobster Roll ($27) and said they they were okay but Cousins Maine Lobster rolls are way better. The Braised Short Rib ($34) was given a good review. It's a a large portion of mashed potatoes and meat as compared to the other dishes. Dessert: we ordered one of each for the table to try. ($10ea) Bread Pudding - 4 stars. Would get it again! Something chocolate- we were served a dainty portion of chocolate mouse in a cute cup with a dallop of whipped cream. It was rich, delicious & I enjoyed my bite. Affogato- a scoop of ice cream with an espresso pour over. It was also good. I really wanted to have a great time at Walloons but this time was a miss. I think they just need more time to get their service and food together- especially for small groups+. I imagine if you were a couple sitting at the bar you may have a different experience. Another reviewer described it more of a bar with full menu than a restaurant and I don't disagree at this point. It is also very loud. I want them to improve and succeed. I'll keep listening to the local word and hope to give them another try in the future. For now, The Fitzgerald and Ellerbe's will be more deserving and well worth your money and time. read more

I've been here twice now and loved it both times! I absolutely adore the vibe that the decor gives you when you walk in; it transports you a few decades into the past, and I dig it. It's very clean, even the restrooms. Service is attentive and friendly and the staff are knowledgeable about the menu, which you don't get a lot these days. The bartender, Kat, is awesome. She knows how to make a damn good cocktail that makes you wanna sip it slowly, so it won't end. The steak entree was cooked to perfection and well seasoned, and the fries were nice and golden and not limp from being undercooked. I loooooove the redfish entree. It's so soothing as it's basically bathing in an upscale tomato soup. I don't eat a lot of mussels, but I enjoyed the ones on this dish and the redfish was wonderful as it easily fell apart when prodded with my fork. The Hugo spritz is DELIGHTFUL. Super light and refreshing. The mint just sends it over the top. And that bread pudding.... Hot diggity. It's supposed to be peach bread pudding, but I didn't taste much peach, and I couldn't care less as it made a party in my mouth regardless with a nice crispy outside, topped with that I think was homemade ice cream... it tasted like it, but I could be wrong. My friend and I had such a pleasant dining experience. We had a reservation and I got there earlier so I sat at the bar for a drink. The restaurant is beautiful inside. They did a great job incorporating the building aesthetics. The service was phenomenal. I felt like they had been open for years instead of weeks when I went. The menu is seafood focused but there are some other great options like braised short ribs. The redfish beignets were tasty and filling. I'd also recommend the redfish. They have a great drink menu with several signature cocktails to choose from. The bar is quite spacious and is good for meeting up for happy hour or a solo dinner.
