Four of us went Sunday late afternoon. It was busy but not full by any means. There was no hostess apparent, so I walked in and picked a table across from the bar. A woman then approached and asked if I was with "her"- my sweetie behind me. I said yes, table for four. The woman them pointed to the table I was at and proceeded to count out and point out the seats, 1,2,3,4 - we sat down. A young waitress approached, took our drink order, then our food order. A group of locals were congregated at the south end of the bar and, we believe were trying to be as loud as possible. Some were standing in the isle so customers could not get through but, the bartender said nothing to them but did interact with them. The meals were served quickly, and it was very good food. Our bill came and we asked for separate checks - the waitress replied, "We don't split checks". First time we heard that, and we have been coming here for years. We ordered a total of four drinks (1 person none, 2 persons 1 and 1 person 2) the check had 7 drinks on it. One of our gals approached the bar to point out the discrepancy - waitress very rudely corrected the check but only down to 5 drinks. I approached the bartender who became very rude and started a though guy attitude saying, "Look buddy, dis is what I got". Eventually he corrected the check and threw it at the bar. We paid and left. This was very disappointing to us as we usually would make this our "go to" spot for lunch in Saugatuck. read more

What a great find! The first thing we encountered when arriving at Wally's was a very friendly staff. Everyone we spoke to was knowledgeable about the menu, very attentive and very friendly. We had some very excellent burgers (from a local farm source) and great local beers too. They are a dog-friendly establishment. They even bring a bowl of water out for your dog. Great place! Despite the many times I've been to Saugatuck for weekend excursions I've never been to Wally's. I guess we just never imagined it to be anything all that noteworthy and I always knew of it as the place folks went to get wasted so when it came time to grab a bite to eat we'd hit some of our other faves instead. However, last weekend I was in town with my family and we wanted some good bar food for lunch where our littlest member (2.5 year old) could get a burger or something equally low key. I've never been a fan of the Butler or Coral Gables so we decided to give Wally's a shot. I cannot believe I've lived 28 years on this earth without a Wally's burger in my life. I can't believe I've walked by this place so many times without stopping and getting a beer and beef. The countless opportunities I've missed to eat a big juicy patty and fries while surrounded by awesomely loud boisterous Saugatuck folks? Oh it makes me sick to think of the time I've wasted! So yes, in case I wasn't clear--the burger is good. And it's huge! A 1/2 pound or so of beef. Awww yeah. Comes with lots of delicious cheese on top served with crispy hot french fries. A good selection of beers both local and otherwise (Oberon, what what!). Nice patio but also a front sun porch-like room with big windows that look out into the street. Almost as good as sitting outside. If you want a quiet meal, this may not be the place. The energetic crowd comes for burgers, fried perch (tasty!), beers, and to watch the TVs with all the big sports games of the day running. It gets LOUD in there but it was perfect for us because our little toddler dudette could get as rowdy as she wanted. So it's a pretty good spot for kids in the afternoon/early evening. At night this place becomes the town watering hole where folks get even louder and drunker but during the day it's an awesome place to grab a bite and a beer and be surrounded by a lively bunch. read more

Horrible horrible service! DO NOT BOTHER COMING HERE. Came in to get a drink to sit at the patio, We were told we had to buy food if we were going to sit down. Asked for a cocktail menu, didn't have one, so didn't know how much the drinks were. Told us we had to put everything on one check, there were 10 of us. So we ordered drinks and food and then the music came on so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. Check my decibel meter and it was over 100. So asked to turn down the music, was told it's a bar, deal with it. An old fashion was $14, the food was average and came out in takeout containers. Not worth the hassle hi, lots of other great places in Saugatuck, don't need to come here. read more

We went here last night prior to a show. There were 4 of us. We were put on the list and seated outside in about 10 minutes(pretty good for summer in prime dinner time). We got cheese curds and fried green beans for appetizer. They were both yummy. I had the roast beef sandwich with tots (many options for sides and awesome that one is tots). The sandwich and tots were both delicious! Others with me had the perch and raved over how good it was. No one could finish their meal because of portion size. The service was timely and good. Plenty of eating space but the table was simply to small to serve food to 4 people on(they should work on that). They got us in and out for our show efficiently without us feeling rushed. Wally's is a family favorite. We love dining outside in the summer. Two of us had the 1/2 perch dinner with tater tots. Two of us had the burgers. The serving sizes are large and everything was cooked to perfection. The service staff was kind and helpful. They appeared to be having fun, even though the restaurant was packed and they were working hard. We Can't wait to go again! read more

This was a fun experience and local gem. I also thought it was very affordable. I bought a round of drinks for seven of us for only $27! Not being a native Michiganian, I was happily surprised at how great the drinks were and how affordable they were! We were visiting from Chicago this past weekend and actually went to Wally's on consecutive evenings. Each time, the establishment was very busy, so on both occasions we sat at the bar and ordered food.& drinks. There's some type of ultralight small airplane hanging from the ceiling with a pilot . . . with an interesting nose appendage. Upon approaching the bartender, he did confirm that the nose on the pilot is indeed a "conversation topic." Check it out! read more

This was our first meal at a restaurant since COVID shut everything. First, the tables outside were more widely spaced than most places and there was a nice breeze and and we actually felt completely comfortable here! Secondly, the service was great. Walking on public side walk by Walley's, stopped to talk with friends that were eating at Walley's ,was rudely asked by security guard to keep moving. Then asked why he said we were blocking side walk and causing trouble. People were still moving around us. He could have said , move over there to the side to talk so people can keep going through. But no he was a very rude person. We were not on their property, we were on the public sidewalk. We have eaten at Walley's many times, and I tell you we will never eat there if this is the kind of people they hire. read more

We used to love the food here (it was our favorite dining destination for years), but the management/service has gotten so appalling that we cannot bring ourselves to come back here. The last time we went, one worker led our party of 7 to a large table. We pulled up two additional chairs and sat down. Two minutes later, the server with pink hair very rudely yanks away the extra chairs we pulled up and spits, "you can't have these chairs here." We try to explain that we were instructed to sit here by a different server, but she just kept repeating that we could not be there. When we asked why we could not have the chairs, she said they would scratch the wood floors. The worst part is that the wood floors are in horrible shape anyway! What a shame. My wife and I decided to stop here for lunch. I ordered the perch sandwich with a side of tots and she ordered the Asian steak salad. Our server was okay, not great, not bad, just okay. It seemed to take unusually long to get our food. When it did come I was minus the tots and had room temp-cold fries, but at least the perch sandwich was hot and it was tasty. My wife's salad looked great except for the large piece of fat on the edge of the steak..... now I know you need the fat for a good juicy steak, but you should also trim it off before placing it atop a salad. All in all just okay and not off the table if I'm in the area again. I'd give them 2 1/2 stars if possible. read more

Have been here before and had a great experience. Today we were at Wally's for cocktails and snacks. They gave us a table outside under an umbrella. As soon as we sat down, the server came and moved the umbrella away from the table so we were directly in the sun. He told us he had to do that. We asked if we could move the table closer to the umbrella, and he said no. We asked why it was close to the table when we sat down, and he told us the prior guests had moved it. He also told us we could NOT move it back. The server then told us we could move down to a table that was in the shade two tables over. When we got to that table he proceeded to move the umbrella away from the table that put us in the sun again. He told us it was OK and that we were not in the sun. He was actually pretty nasty about it and even complained to the people at the next table. He was very vocal letting us know he hoped we didn't come back. What a shame to lose Wallys on our list. read more

As a local, I will simply reiterate what many folks have already said. The service isn't just bad, it's almost like they don't even want you there. Can make for a very uncomfortable atmosphere. With so many better options in town, I would encourage the tourists to steer clear of this place and not let it leave you with a bad impression of Saugatuck. read more

We've been coming to Wally's for years. In the past the perch was always sautéed and plump. Now the perch is heavily coated and with very little fish inside. The fish is filet almost down to the skin. It was all batter and hardly any fish . The service was good. It was my wife's birthday meal that she looks forward to every year. unfortunately, for$50 it was money not well spent. read more

We have been going to Wally's for many years while we used to love it. The past several visits over the last year have been a bit lacking in customer service. Example one came in June two different times once me and my partner second time with family. Knowing it was peak season we anticipated a wait. First trip just the two of us. We get there around 12:30 was told about an hour wait to be seated. Within our eyesight were 4 empty tables. When the hostess was questioned about all the open seating the response was I have to go through the list and call the names quite rudely. We put our name down I went to use the restroom and we decided to grab a drink at the bar. 10 minutes later the hostess offers us a table because she claims she called everyone's names on the list. We grabbed a seat. We ordered chicken wings and a burger with fries. Was brought onion rings instead asked for fries was told well enjoy the rings as if we were being given a freebie. Fries show up halfway through meal. Onion rings untouched. Bill arrives with uncharged for onion rings. Waited almost 20 minutes for the bill to be corrected. 2nd trip same response about seating however due to a larger group and no empty tables we were told 1 hour to an 1.5 hours and to come back or stand around and wait. We say okay we will come back in exactly 1 hour we even set alarms on our phone to be back in time. Arrive back 1 hour on the dot was told our name was called and they gave our table away (note they won't take your cell number and actually call you like Pumpernickels does). Not impressed asked what the point of having your name on a list and a time to be back meant if they didn't hold your table. Hostess was rude and didn't care we ended up taking a two tables and sitting apart there was only 5 of us so we were 2 and 3. Food and drinks were slow in coming longer than normal. The last time was in September after Labor Day. Seated fine no wait new hostess much nicer. Our waitress was very nice however they seated a group of obviously highly intoxicated college kids behind us and continued to serve them. The kids were loud and rude and made it so awkward as they kept getting up and making us move to let them pass our table bumping into us that when our food showed up we asked for to go boxes. The waitress fully knew why and gave the look of sorry(but didn't do anything about the drunks cause she knew them all by name and was obviously friends with them) We asked for some ice for our yetis to put water in them from the cups of water we had on our table. The assume he's the owner refused to give us ice under the pretense that his liquor license is more important so nothing in togo cups not even ice or water he was quite rude about it. We left walked to the Boardwalk Deli and Ice cream and asked them for ice which they gave us with no issues and offered us water. Because of these past visits and the interaction with the owner it will be many years before coming back if ever to this establishment. read more

Went to eat here with my mom and my 18 month old daughter. We didn't even make it through the door before we were greeted by two rude and snobby hostesses that told us we had to leave our stroller in the alley and said "it should be fine there." I understand strollers can be a fire hazard in a restaurant, as I have worked in one, but at least offer a place to put it in the restaurant and not an alley way. We asked if we could fold it up and leave it up front folded and we're refused and told it was the owners policy to leave it in the alley. Strollers are not cheap, therefore we left with a bad taste in our mouth of this place, their rude staff and their ridiculous policy. If you have young children, save yourself from coming here and go somewhere else. read more

We walked past while searching for somewhere to eat after driving for a couple hours and this place had the shortest wait on a busy Wednesday night. It looked nice and we were hungry with 2 hungry kids. We asked if they had a kids menu and our server told us they didn't but they could do a "build a burger" or chicken strips. The kids did a burger with fries and 2 piece chicken strips with tater tots. She didn't tell us fries and tots cost more so we ended up paying primo price for kids meals. My wife got the chicken sandwich and it was more breading than chicken. I got the burrito which was very underwhelming. Long story short, premium price for sub par food. It looked like a decent place to have a couple drinks if you are ok with $5 domestic bottles. I'll steer clear next time. read more

The second we walked up the waitress just gave us a snobby look and RUDLEY said "strollers are not allowed" that's it. No "hello", or "I'm sorry but". Waited to be seated on the patio for drinks and appetizers. When I asked the server if they had any gluten free options, she didn't know and had to ask. After returning and informing us all they had GF was salads she asked if we would be ordering food. We replied not now and then were told we needed to move to the bar inside, where they had dead animals hanging from the ceiling including a dead house cat. While the bartender inside was friendly, I would not recommend this place for any with a gluten allergy or anyone with a love for animals. read more

Me and my friends were in Saugatuck for the weekend. We were at dinner Saturday night at Marros (which I highly recommend) and decided to go get some drinks after. We get to Wally's and I approach the bar to get a drink for myself. The bartender then informs me that I am cut off. I was very confused with this because 1. I haven't been drinking prior to getting to this bar 2. I just entered the establishment. I ask why and the bartender told me the bouncer cut me off so I walked over to the bouncer to try and figure this out. I asked him politely and he told me "probably because you're drunk" (I was not the slightest bit drunk) and told me I can leave if I don't like it. I would stay away from this place if you are looking to have fun with you're night as the folks who work there are not the nicest and have poor people skills. Very rarely so I post bad reviews but this deserves one. We thought the music here sounded nice so we came by and were very disappointed with the hostess staff. We were at a bar only table outside where you could drink while waiting on a table, and asked to be put on the list for an outside table so we could order food. Twice empty tables sat empty for 5-10 minutes we made eye contact with the hostess waiting for her to seat us. Both times people not on the wait list were seated at the tables while the hostess shot us a snarky look. We went to ask if we were still on the list. She replied yes, and when we asked about people just walking up and being seated she was snarky and said they were on the list. This was a lie because I heard the people when they walked up and they were not on the list. We left and went to Wick's and it was the right choice. read more

I asked the bartender if they're known for any drinks in particular and he said they make a good rum punch, so I went with that - it was indeed good! Loved everything from the service to the food but seriously the security outside in their camo pants need a reality check. These guys get so out of line it's ridiculous. I've seen them the past two weekends bothering guests and just straight up using their "powers" to be assholes. I would feel more comfortable coming to the restaurant if they hired someone else. We arrived at open on Monday over the 4th. They seemed to be really busy. We opted to sit outside, which I normally am not a fan of but they have a great overhang that helps keep the sun out of you eyes and the wind from blowing everything away. I thought our meal was average. I had the Gorgonzola salad which was tasty but I thought was lacking a bit on ingredients considering it was an entree salad. Hubby had the pulled pork which was more like pork chunks. He actually ate the pork with his fork and skipped the bun. My son had a burger that was generously sized. Service was average as well. She wasn't super attentive but didn't completely ignore us either. I had something odd happen to me while sitting at our table. My leg suddenly felt cold and I looked down and something that was stuck to the bottom of the table fell down and landed on my light tan capris. It looked like a smashed olive but there was too much 'stuff' to it to be an olive. I'm afraid it was something more vile. So I wiped it off and went to the bathroom. Of course, no paper towels and instead a motion sensor hand dryer so I had to pool water in my hands to wash it off then stand on one leg under the hand dryer which of course kept turning off. What the heck happened to customer service at Wally's. Our family has lived here since the 70's so we know Saugatuck/Douglas very well. One of our go-to places is Wally's. Always take out of towners here. The perch is the best. The service has become horrific. We actually had THE worst service I have experienced at a restaurant here. One of our semi-weekly places to go. I'm not sure how often I will go back and I'm certainly not going to take any visitors there. I was embarrassed and shocked at how the server treated us. Maybe they are so popular they don't care how many customers they lose. Such a bummer. read more
