The management at this store is VERY unprofessional and I seriously doubt they would make it as managers/supervisors anywhere else. They have the audacity to boast that they're the second best store in the district. Wow, the competition must be nonexistent. Don't quit your jobs because you'd have trouble finding another with your attitudes. Read on to see why... My son worked here for 1 month. His first week on the job just doing paperwork one of the day managers called him "off," (sensitivity training anyone?) he does have a disability but is very high-functioning. I started to complain to the ethics department but my son begged me not to get involved so I let it go. Then the night stocker manager Gary fired my son after working for only 2-1/2 weeks (doing what he was hired to do) for overlooking 4 boxes of cereal while zoning. I'm no expert but what happened to the 3 month probationary period to learn the job? There wasn't even any attempt to train him to do anything else. My son worked his butt off! I know this because it is in his nature to put 100% into whatever he does, it was his first job and he wanted to make a good impression, and because he would be physically exhausted after coming home from work each morning. He was never late to work (I know because I drove him), never missed a day, and was never formally written up beforehand! This was his first job so he is really beating himself up over losing it,. He feels totally inadequate as well as embarrassed and his self-confidence has really taken a beating. So sorry about your 4 boxes of cereal Gary. I guess it wouldn't occur to a "genius" like you that this oversight may be a part of my son's disability? I think my son is smarter than you in many ways! I feel like it's almost my duty to post this, even though it happened before I knew of yelp. I purchased a small gift around this time one year, and paid cash. I gave the clerk a $20 for an item totalling about $8. He gives me back change for a $10. When I point this out he says I just gave him a $10. So I have to wait about 30 minutes while the manager counts the till, and gives me the change due. I can't it, but I have a suspicion this guy did this on a regular basis, probably to people paying cash that look venerable or in a hurry. I Warn everyone to look out for this during the holidays as I don't know if this employee is still there. I called the manager later, be she didn't seem really concerned or apologetic. I don't know what I was expecting. This is, after all, Walmart. Hard Candy is a cosmetics brand that has made a pact with the devil, and only sells their product via Walmart. I'm admittedly not the biggest fan of Walmart's business practices, but my pathological obsession with beauty products trumps any ethical concern. I phoned up the Anderson store's main number to ask if they had the Hard Candy line at that specific location. I was transferred to "Health and Beauty". Someone in the pharmacy department picked up and I repeated my question. They abruptly transferred me again. Another pharmacy employee picked up. I repeated my question. The man said he didn't know and suggested that I call the main store's number. Come on! I HATE circuitous telephone exchanges. I told the man that I had arrived at my current conversation with him by dialing the main number. He told me that he could not transfer me, and that I would have to call back. You know what? That killed my lemming for Hard Candy products. Everyone I spoke with was so colossally unhelpful that I don't care to venture into their store. This Walmart is weird. It is laid out very differently and has a very different feel than all the others. It feels almost a little bit too cramped I think. They still have everything I ever need when I come in here, the employees are WAY more friendly and helpful than other local Walmarts and the other customers walking around are much better to be shopping with than at others (namely Norwood Park or Parmer). And their produce looks significantly better than other Walmarts as well. Only downfall is they're not open 24 hours.. I hate Walmart and as a rule I do NOT shop there unless I "have" to. Well, I was in one of those situations for an entire weekend...I was volunteering in the area and had to run over there several times a day to get random stuff. I was very pleased with my experience! The staff did not appear to be on Soma like the other Walmart employees I've ever tried to get help from. They were helpful humans with a sense of humor! They had everything I was looking for and the place was clean and not packed full of people. I like that it's small AND has groceries. It met MY needs anyway. I tried avoiding Walmarts because A) they're always full to the max with people making purchases in preparation for the apocalypse, it seems and B) disorganization and rude/careless staff. This Walmart does not fit A or B. We've visited three times already and each time it's as if we're just 3 of 40 people doing their normal grocery shopping. Yes, it's smaller, but it has what we need and do we REALLY need a super giant Walmart? That's what Sam's is for, no? Anyways. I also love the parking lot. I have yet to need to park 3 blocks away, as it's always felt that way at other Walmart locations in the past. The staff is friendly. Our cashiers always ask if we found what we were looking for (that has been THE FIRST time I've ever been asked that at a Walmart!). One day, upon entering the store, the greeter was being cheesy and pretended that we were about to ride a roller-coaster, asking us to buckle our seat belts, keep arms in, etc. Cute, but cheesy :P Our experience has been great here. I'm only giving it 4 stars because it is a Walmart and I don't agree with how they operate as a company. That and their produce section can be lacking a bit. I wish there was more of a selection when it came to apples and such. Then again, if they're bringing in local produce, it explains the selection. I know that most of the Walmarts in Austin are laid out funky, but this one is like a hamster maze. I know that Walmart isn't known for their produce, but every time I dig under the top layer of fruit, because I'm actually pretty good at picking out fruit, I find moldy produce. I believe in that one bad apple thing so I usually end up buying canned, but they don't have a lot of options at this Walmart, they don't have a lot of anything, so I usually give up and drive to the one off of 620 because it's open 24/7, and they have a bigger, usually fresher selection. One thing I do like about this location, is that I'm addicted to their subs. The subs at other places always seem a bit old and soggy by the time I get to them, but the ones here always seem freshish and not so picked over. I like the New York Deli Sub. Lots of meat and cheese. I swear, they're better than you're thinking. read more

What an interesting place! The floor in the pharmacy reminds me of something that could be found in Whole Foods. The pharmacists are very nice. Really, everybody at this store are my favorites. The bike rack in front of the store is so quirky, it reflects the fun spirit of Austin. The suckiest thing about this fancy Walmart is that there isn't a McDonalds. Well, I went today, and I can't say it was very nice. The produce is fine, but their service is quite bad. They do have an ok discount area in the back where you can find cheap things like 25 cents or 50 cent things if you're lucky. Overall, if you want to shop at Walmart, why not go a few. Blocks over to an HEB instead? Anyway, here's the story of my trip: I just checked out and was heading out of the store when I saw the woman ahead of me get pulled out of line so all her belongings could be checked. It's like she was getting profiled only because she was African American. Then I had to go through the woman too to get a highlight on my receipt, and just didn't even look at my cart and just highlighted my receipt and crunched it in her hand waving me through. 1.) I need my recipe in case I want to return something. 2.) You didn't even look at my cart. I think you guys definitely need some new personnel, because this race thing just isn't working for me. The SUPERVISOR that night, who you would think would try to have more customer service experience than the others, had the biggest chip on her shoulder was so amazingly rude. have had a couple of big issues in that location, food posioning before memorial day from food bought there, (after the freezers and ice box's were repaired)..however i called the store several times to report the issue,..no answer, or no return call.also had 3 milk purchases go bad within 3 days of purchase with good expiration dates. again i got no response, other than finally going to customer service to report the problem, the clerk said..oh..i have had several gallons of milk returned lately, i ask if she reported the issue, she said,, no i did not think it was important...also they require that all back packs be stored with customer service while shopping, BUT my friends son's backpack was stolen while in store's possession. the employees in electronice are extremely rude and not helpful since griffin left, no one knows how to help with any questions on products, even when you call ahead and ask if anyone will be there to help..i got yelled at and told she did not care i had called ahead. read more

This place has gotten even worse. It has gates, cameras, sensors and scanners, plus locks on selected items. But for some reason this store also has a drone at the exit who asks 'did you buy anything' and then you hand her a Walmart receipt. Bear in mind she does not actually look through the bag itself to see if the receipt matches. You could just pick it up off the floor...etc and leave. Uh yeah. The customer service was great on the initial visit but on another visit I witnessed an appalling show of consideration, management and cultural awareness by Mr. Abeed then I have in a long time. Lost Hispanic child didn't understand English spoken by customer service clerks. Customer in mine volunteered to help spike Spanish and was getting the information when Mr. Aveed pulled a Mr. Bean like moment and rudely intervened and broke the communication and built up of trust between child and man and brushed the man's help side. He hurt the man's feelings so bad that he disheartened the moment to the degree he escalated Adm emotion that was not there until he became a part of the issue. In my opinion Mr. Abeed many be a good manager but he is lacking in the personable skills. I believe he lost the respect and confidence of both staff and customers that day, well at least me and the gentleman helper. Cheap affordable prices .. Good self check out so you don't have to wait in a long line. Good parking spot .. Friendly staff, but not all of their products are well made and quality enough. We despise Wal-Mart, so we might have a tendency to be biased. We are a low income, large family but we only go to Wal-Mart when the budget is extra tight. Walmart store on 620/Lake Creek had the worse customer service and most of the time I can get 2 things on a long list and that was before the virus became an issue..I asked to speak to the manager today with a problem needless to say she couldn't be bothered and they sent a support manager and then she got an asst. manager that left to get something and never came back..The customer really doesn't matter in this store and I only go there because it's close..Usually go to Parmer/1431 where they actually respect the customer and the store is fully stocked. I shop at this Walmart due to the convenience of it. The store is nice and never really over crowded which I LOVED. The employees (minus the manager, and one other male employee which brown longish hair and glasses) are ALWAYS nice, conversational, and friendly/helpful. I was in the self check out line, asking to put back an item that required an ID because I had left mine in the car, which I was trying to tell the man who was in charge of self check out at the time. I polity asked if I could put back the item and just come back for it in 2 minutes. He interrupted me mid way, and said I NEED TO SEE YOUR ID NOW. I started to talk again asking to put it back for a second, he then yelled at my little sister asking for her ID as well ( she is a minor ), I told him not to yell at my sister that way because 1st of all he had no right to, 2nd I was later informed by the manager ( who I ran into at the next checkout line, after grabbing my items and checking out after her ) who I asked why the other employee was asking for both our IDs while knowing myself that NO WALMART EMPLOYEE EVER has asked for a minors ID while checking out at the cashiers with a parent or guardian. BECAUSE THE MINOR WOULD NOT BE USING OR CONSUMING THE ITEM. I later just went to H-E-B to grab the item that I wanted to buy anyways ( by the way H-E-B employees/manager are always great! ) Now 2 weeks prior the manager ( who always wear a light blue shirt and jeans ) also yelled at a customer in the return line. I did not connect who she was originally till this other employee yelled at me. She acted this way not just in front of me, but 4 other customers and another employee ( who were just as if not more with the way she talked to the customer). She asked why the customer was returning the laptop (which he paid in gift cards, that he was gifted by his parents, only reason everyone in that area knew was because the manger made fun of him for paying this way and told him this was going to be a pain for her to take care off and asking why he didn't pay other way), he was returning the laptop because he received the wrong one from his order. Never have I ever in my life time been so disgusted and disappointed in two employees. They ruined the whole store and I will not be coming back to this place. From one manager to another, you should never yell or make fun of any customer ( right or wrong, whither you like them or not ). You are supposed to be leading by example for employees which it shows they are starting to pick up on HORRIBLE habits. I will GLADLY tell everyone in my area not to go to this Walmart, if need be I will drive the extra 15mins just so I can received great customer service. read more

Guys, growing up in Mississippi, Walmart is just normal. It's where you go to get stuff. It was weird when I first moved here because it's what I knew. Over time though, I realized that HEB is all Walmart is and more. Just better, cheaper, more accessible. That said, I still go to Walmart sometimes in dire situations. This location is probably the 'nicest' in town. It's also controversial. The locals didn't want this going into the old Northcross mall. Like, at all. Well, it's here. It's small and it's never crazy busy. That considered, the selection is kind of lame. Every time I go here I just think things are overpriced and mostly crap. I am awarding a five to the store tonight solely because of the outstanding customer service of is amazing associate named Elizabeth. Wow much younger employees ignored my struggles, the elderly Elizabeth came to my Aid no less than three times. First, she noticed I was struggling to drag a large tub of groceries behind my electric cart (today was a particularly bad day for my arthritis). I had previously asked a young man in electronics if he could fetch me a backup cart, but was nicely told that he couldn't leave his post. 10 minutes later Elizabeth walks by, notices my pain, and immediately curious that huge, heavy tub to the checkout line for me. Second, while the check out people seemed annoyed that I had bought so many cheap and small art items and individual paints, Elizabeth walks by with a smile asks if everything is going to my satisfaction. How could I say no surrounded by her infectious enthusiasm. Meanwhile none of the checkout people ever bother to thank me for my $400 in purchases. Third, well I sent in the parking lot at 1.40 AM trying to load my van, who walks by again? Elizabeth of course, this time focusing her enthusiasm on cart duty. Prior to her arrival at least 12 different muscled associates had walked by and never bothered help me move the items in my electric card into my van. ..... so in summary, Elizabeth truly save the day for both me and also her Walmart store because I was going to give this shopping experience a 2 until this highly energetic, senior citizen Walmart associate came to my rescue......... This was a horrific experience. Not familiar with Walmart products, I was surprised that the bicycle my son wanted was at Walmart and had great reviews, plus very cheap! So, ordered a bicycle for my son online on Tuesday to be picked up at this store. I called the store after placing the online order to request free assembly (part of the deal). The associate said "No problem, call us again after you receive the confirmation pick-up text ." So, 3 hours later, I called back to request assembly. After 20 confusing minutes on the phone, I was told that their "bicycle assembler" wouldn't be in until Friday (3 days), so I would need to wait until then. I verified that they would call me as soon as it was assembled on Friday. I didn't get a call Friday. I tried calling 4 times but the main number was a busy signal. On Sunday, we called again, finally getting through to the main line after many attempts of reaching a busy signal. I spent 1 hr and 8 mins on hold (!!) and talking to two different associates, including the manager of Toy Dept. There was a "mix-up" with our order. They claimed didn't have my phone # so couldn't call me, despite the 2 numbers clearly printed on my online order (which I showed them). Finally, 3 hours later, they called and said the bike was ready. Well ... bike was assembled wrong x 2, even missing a bolt on the front wheel. Brakes were actually wrong, on the wrong side, so we couldn't turn the handlebars. After another agonizing hour in the store while they tried to assemble it correctly, my husband and I finally left with the bike in our hands. When we got home, we noticed another bolt on the rear tire was completely missing, and the handlebars weren't tightened. That could have been disastrous and resulted in a bad accident, had we not noticed! He took a trip to Zinger hardware, bought the missing bolt and a tool, and we vowed to NEVER return to Walmart or order online again. We never really got an apology from anyone in the store, either ... they kept making excuses about how they didn't have a phone number, got my order confused with another one, etc ... it was a nightmare. My husband summed it up: "You get what you pay for." I wish we would have gone with the $200 Piranha bike (other store) than the $65 Walmart bike. Hindsight is 20/20. This location is absolutely awful. They were out of many of the produce that I was looking for like parsley and red potatoes. I was also there to purchase a PS4 control charging dock. I noticed that it was significantly more expensive in the store than online at Walmart.com. This online service allows you to buy it online and pick it up at the store. The product your paying for is the exact same. Not even the same type, but literally the same unit. At the bottom of all the receipts and in their advertisements it says that they'll match any competitors price. So naturally, after purchasing it, I asked if they could match their online price and the lady was extremely rude and said no because you have to go through the "online process". read more

I am not exactly the Target snob that many Austinites and other urban dwellers may be, and yet I have to admit that I have shook my head in humor at times during visits to Wal-Marts in the past. This particular Wal-Mart, which opened literally days ago in a location once part of the old Northcross Mall property, faced tremendous obstacles to even be built. Community organizers put up a huge fight a couple of years ago when plans for the store were being laid, and one result of that was a smaller footprint store than Wal-Mart originally planned. Wal-Mart planned and prepared this store very carefully; the result is a store that appears to be very aware of the local concerns, and preferences of higher quality over low prices. This store appeals to affluent urban types while not alienating those looking primarily for savings. Arriving this morning, I found the parking lot quite full and yet the walk to the store was not far. Entering the single store entrance, I was immediately met by fresh produce, fresh-baked breads and baked goods, a kiosk of fine cheeses containing a larger variety of fresh cheese brands than the nearby Allandale HEB, quick-prepare foods, fancy frosted cupcakes, and a wall of fresh, lean cuts of meat! Right next to the meat was packaged refrigerated chicken breasts. I examined the chicken carefully, as I considered it a key litmus test of comparison against standard Wal-Marts. I was pleased to find only a minority of the chicken packages were the Pilgrim's Pride, chicken broth-injected breasts, with most of the chicken "All Natural" breasts from Tyson and Country Post. As I circled behind this area, I came to a nicely laid out pharmacy area floored with wood flooring and complete with a large vitamins and healthy living section. I really love this quick and easy access to the pharmacy. The frozen section was stunning -- filled with a lot of yummy items I have not even seen in higher-end grocery stores. As I mentioned earlier, management carefully mixed higher-end items with traditional Wal-Mart generic and mass-market brand offerings to meet the needs of both price-sensitive and quality-conscious shoppers. One example of this was the presence of over 20 varieties of olive oil -- fine brands all the way down to the inexpensive, Wal-mart generic "Great value" brand. Coffee also demonstrated this flexibility, with inexpensively-priced Starbucks whole-bean coffee (less than $7 per 12oz pouch) placed nearby Eight O'Clock coffee. Gourmet spice bottles are placed alongside standard spice packaging/branding. The wine section was better than the typical Wal-mart, and although they stocked the typical selection of lower-end brands (Sutter Home, Oak Leaf, etc.) they also carried a few dozen $9-11 bottles, priced 50 cents to $1 below what you would find them priced at in other stores. They also stock bottles ranging from $12 all the way up to $20 bottles (2009 La Crema Pinot Noir). The beer coolers need to be larger in order to increase variety. As I walked around the store, I felt the tension that store planners must have felt as they chose what to "cut" from the store. The store's surprisingly small size, smaller than any Wal-Mart or Target that I've ever been in, resulted in much smaller sections throughout the store. They did a decent job of maintaining variety when they could through tactics such as using a single shelf column to stock an item. The store was extremely clean - I saw no debris, packaging, or other junk laying around whatsoever, save a sole 3x4 inch square of cardboard laying on the floor against one shelving unit. As you walk around, you find yourself walking either on a wood floor or on stained concrete, done very tastefully. The entire right wall of the store is a bright yellow, rather than gray and white around the whole perimeter. The back shelving in the store looks clear through to the employee-access stocking area, providing an open feeling and demonstrating real transparency into the back-of-store operations. Price-checker machines are located around the store, allowing you to quickly check an item's price by scanning the barcode on the machines. The electronics section in the back-left corner of the store contained a variety of quality brands - flat-screen TV's offered included LG, Sony, Philips, Vizio, as well as the lower-end Samsung. The shoppers alongside me were varied in every way and quite a refreshing change from the "everyone's alike" feeling you get at Target. Don't get me wrong - this store will not replace Target, though many like me will stop in here for diapers and cat food rather than driving to Target. It won't be the place that many women go to buy hats, cool t-shirts, or the latest home stuff. But it will be an excellent neighborhood store for regular grocery shopping and shopping for misc goods. Way to go, Wal-Mart! I'm glad Austin is giving you a chance to prove that you can reach out to a variety of preference groups! read more

This is the closest Walmart from home. So I go to this Walmart very often. Unlike other Walmarts in Austin there are less ghetto shoppers... --the list goes on-- less wildly running little kids, less noisy, less cheap looking rim shows at the parking lot, many, many things less than any other Walmart. It can sometimes get crowded, and this store is too smaller compared to the other Walmarts. So you have a pretty limited selection. That's the only thing I dislike about the store. This is the Walmart. What do you expect? Every single Walmart in the US is pretty chaotic, crowded and ghetto. read more

I generally hate Wal-Mart. I avoid it like the plague. However, I dig this store. Yes, it's a smaller version of other Wal-Marts in the city, and for that I appreciate it. I can stop in and get out quickly. Selection is somewhat smaller than other stores, but it's not that serious a deal for me. Parking is plentiful. read more
