This is a really chill Wal-Mart. The store is very clean (especially for the area) and well laid out. I find myself making far more impulse buys here relative to at other places (including other Wal-Mart stores), which I guess can be attributed to something they must be doing differently. Maybe they're pumping barbiturates into the air. The checkout staff I've encountered there have been quite personable as well. Very friendly and talkative, and very positive about the store. They don't look like your average pissed-off-because-I've-been-standing-for-eight-hours cashiers. Management here is for sure doing something right. read more

If you can get in and out of Walmart with a purchase in under 5 minutes, that's gotta be a five star experience. The secret? Self-service checkout. Never seen that in a Walmart before and, since lots of shoppers seem to pay with cash and this requires electronic payments, the station was open and waiting for me. I also found this store was much different in layout than other stores... more like a "regular" store with impulse purchases ingeniously placed as opposed to massive displays of cough syrup or fire ant spray. It was also a lot easier to get in and out of the aisles and I found what I was looking for (mouthwash and cole slaw, go figure) without walking for miles and feeling like an idiot. I never made it into the bowels of the store so may have to downgrade on a future visit (which is unlikely to occur) but for now, five stars. read more

As someone who has actually submitted more than one photo to "people of WalMart" (and yes, more than one was of truly heinous mullets) and drives out of the way to avoid 2 other locations just to come to this one...when I say this location is "not bad for a WalMart", trust. That being said, I usually do my grocery shopping here after I get off work at 11pm. Walmart parking lots are infamous for an array of bad things happening in them, but this one has a well-lit parking lot and I have never felt unsafe walking to or from my car. Though my biggest issue w/this location is they will be out of the most random things on any given day of the week, I actually have never had a problem locating an associate here and more often than not, they are surprisingly engaged and helpful! One guy even went to the truck that had just come in and got my me egg whites!?! The people that come here, even in the middle of the night, are your usual Walmart suspects, but I have never had an issue (except for the gaggle of shady-looking "youths" that tend to congregate right in front of the doors, but just push your cart like you just spent 40mins of your life in a Walmart and they tend to scatter pretty quickly). As far as Walmarts go, the store itself and (shockingly) the bathrooms here are usually clean. This place gets an extra shoutout for my latest venture here though. They literally were out of almost everything I came in for, so I had like 3 different associates trying to help me locate stuff. My usual 30-40min trip turned into almost 90min, so when I went to check out, the self-checkouts were closed. In order to get out as fast as possible, I bagged my own stuff and made a beeline. I was backing up when one of the cashiers came running up to my car, waving at me. I was a little alarmed at first, but rolled down my window and the nice young man handed me the loaf of bread I'd forgotten to bag. I really wish I had gotten his name so I could give him a proper kudos. If I had gotten home at almost 1am to find out one of the vital things I had specifically gone there for (and they had been out of on the shelf, but was able to get from the back), I literally might have just lost it. This Wally-Mart gave me a Bread Angel that night, and for that alone, this place gets 4-stars! read more

Of all the Wal-mart's in Austin this one is not my favorite. The location has easy parking, but the setup inside is confusing. I'm not sure if this is because it's a small building for a Wal-mart or just poor design. The meat selection is fare, but the flavor of the steaks is definitely not worth the few dollars you'll save versus going to a grocery store. I also think the produce looks a day or two away from spoiling. Granted you can find some great back to school specials or Black Friday deals, but all in all, Wal-mart's competition seems to be stacking up pretty well financially & doesn't seem to have the exponential savings appeal that it once did. read more

You could fit two of these in that secret wondrous Walmart hidden off 2222 & 620, and the aisles here are narrower, and there's a lot less stuff crammed closer together. But who goes to a Walmart for aesthetics? When you leave Fork & Vine or Goodnight or Hopdoddy, and need some $5 headsets before going to Epoch, this Walmart comes through. Wal-Mart made two huge mistakes with this place: 1.) They listened to those NIMBYs in Allandale and scaled their original plans to a much smaller footprint. 2.) They still made this place into a Super Wal-Mart (with groceries) despite the tiny footprint. I'm guessing if Wal-Mart had just stuck with their original plans and told the "RG4NC" dweebs where to stick their signs, everything would have panned out just fine, and at least half of those people would have been shopping there (with hats and sunglasses on so as not to be recognized) regardless. Instead, they backed down and built a really lousy Wal-Mart. They've basically tried to cram every department you'd find in a giant Super Wal-Mart into a space about half the size. The result is narrow aisles and a total lack of selection. We went here one night to find the sorts of basic supplies every Wal-Mart carries, and were amazed that over half the items on our list weren't there. The space is simply incapable of offering the selection you expect from a Wal-Mart. The sales staff said "sorry we don't carry that" with the sort of mechanical indifference one can only obtain after saying the exact same phrase hundreds of times a day. I'm not a big fan of Wal-Mart generally, but the one thing you could always say about them is that if you need a lot of disparate items and don't have a lot of time, they're the perfect place to go. This Wal-Mart, though, is only useful if you want to get claustrophobic while getting less than half the items you went there for. read more

However, on this day as I was leaving Northcross Mall I had exactly 30 minutes to pick up some snacks and be back at my house before guests were due to arrive. I bit the bullet and walked over. The first thing I noticed was the overabundance of handicapped parking spots, just like at other Walmarts. The next thing I noticed was that everyone leaving the store was a senior citizen. I went ahead and ventured in. Wow, this was NOT what I was expecting! Clean, not crowded, helpful employees, and the other customers did not fit the "people of walmart" stereotype. As I was in a hurry, I didn't look around the whole store, I just grabbed what I needed and left. There was no line at the check-out and I don't think I even heard a single screaming child while I was in there! This was a most atypical Wal-Mart experience. Might I even say pleasant? Garbage store. It's in a ritzier part of town, so I guess I should have expected it. My husband, my toddler and I just got off the road from traveling in our RV for his job, so naturally I need a lot of house items. I came to purchase a ton of hangers for our clothes, and some food items. I spent less than $40. During my time there, I was approached by someone who informed me I was being followed by an employee. I'm used to this, especially in areas like this. I am heavily tattooed and am usually in some type of band t shirt and baseball cap, due to my hair never being fixed. As I'm leaving, I throw my receipt out, as per usual and was asked for it by the old lady at the front. I tell her I don't have it. A manager (?) Sybil (very fitting) GRABS MY BASKET WITH THE ITEMS I NOW OWN, and drug it to customer service to "check my purchases". She pulled all my shit out and counted it, compared it with the receipt, just to find out the 22 items I bought, were, indeed in there and I wasn't stealing. Thank god there are other places in the city to shop. Target and H‑E‑B have never failed me to this day. read more

Why am I a fan of Walmart you ask? Well, as a longtime Austin resident, it is one of the few arrogant-hippie-free establishments in Austin, so that is always a plus. Also, when you are in need of transmission fluid and bar soap and wrapping paper at 11PM at night, where else are you going to go? This Walmart is definitely mini, having to fit into the small space left behind from Northcross Mall. I remember all the ballyhoo from the neighborhood about it, but really, there is so much stuff in this Anderson/Burnet Road area, that the small retailers are generally safe as long as they continue to offer those specific items that make them special. As others have said, this Walmart doesn't have every imaginable option for every product as the other "Sprawl-Marts" do. They didn't even have the type of soap I use, which is definitely at the other Wal-Marts in town. That's okay because, unlike the other Wal-marts in town, this one is clean, well-lit, and there were no children. I can guarantee at the one I normally go to, at Ben White and I35, there are TONS of children there at 11PM at night. Being small and clean, and without crying children blocking my every imaginable path, I was able to quickly grab my three or four very disparate items, pay (no line!) and put the transmission fluid in my car in their well-lit, pan-handler-free parking lot and be on my way, with a new soap adventure in my future, and wrapping paper for a belated birthday present. You kidding me? Finally my gf noticed a guy who taking his time and called him over. He rang me up and overcharged me for my item. I called him out on it and he and his trainer froze. 2015 update* saw someone urinate on the floor here. Midday. In front of kids. Just didn't give a hoot. No service members saw, but when I mentioned the "spill", the woman I told said "uh-huh. Yep" and put a sign over it. Wtf... This is the single worst Walmart in the entire state. It is chaotic, unclean, and filled with staff members so burnt out on b.s. that they don't care about anything. They are not service members. I cashed a check here once on a Sunday, and it took half an hour til an associate said "next" and it was my turn to move forward in the cattle call that was the service desk. I also ordered a site to store package once. I will probably never use the service again. I called to verify that my package was delivered. My call was dropped three times, and I spent twenty minutes on hold. I eventually gave up and drove there during traffic. I received the wrong item in the wrong box, I was not offered a receipt for a purchase over $100, I was not immediately offered help to the curb with a 60 lb box. The youngest kid working there asked me if I needed help on my way out, and he got a dolly and took the box to the curb. All in all: A consumerist hell hole. read more

This is the absolute closest supercenter type store to my house. Generally, I'll head to target, but if I just need *one thing* or it's after 9, or if I'm on the way home from the gym and need something, this is a decent place to go. It's not usually crowded, the people are fairly friendly, and while it's small, I've never not come away with at least an approximation of what I need. They also have fairly decent looking sandwiches in the deli section. Haven't tried them yet, but they look yummy! Also, we've gotten some photo prints from their cheaper than anywhere else - upload your photos online, and you can pick them up in an hour. 4x6s are like 10 cents, 4 wallets are 50 cents. One complaint - when I'm there late at night, WHY OH WHY are the only registers open way on the far side? I mean, I'm not afraid of a little walk and all but just seems odd. read more

So this is the Walmart that was the subject of a lot of controversy before it was built. A lot of Crestview residents didn't want the original plan of a behemoth of a building to reside next to them, so it wasn't built. Instead, we got this place, but this place will do. I like this Walmart more than all the others around town. It's in a good, safe location, it's usually quick and easy to visit, and it fits the neighborhood Walmart void that was so long empty. But with those perks come some flaws: this is a watered-down Walmart. You aren't going to find a lot of selection here. I mean, just look at the size of this place. It's smaller than your average Walmart. Also, it's not a 24-hour location. Looks like most days, this place shuts its doors at 1 a.m. So, if you need to grab something quick that isn't terribly specific, this is your place. If you want more products to choose from, head over to another Walmart...and be careful if you go after dark. read more

Placed an order online today, 02/06/23 at around 12noon, to be ready for "curbside pickup" @7-8pm. Since the store had been under "remodeling" recently I have no idea if they offer vehicle pickup or just the get off the vehicle and go inside. So here I am calling the store since 12:30pm without an answer, frustrated because I ordered groceries & personal hygiene products for my children back home, since I am currently out of state working and my in-laws are doing us a huge favor picking up the order! One of my calls went thru at 0343pm (to the electronic department) in which I got placed on hold for 10 minutes before the lady noticed she hadn't transferred my call to the "online ordering" department. Once she transferred, AGAIN no one picked up my call at the online ordering department! Its currently 04:10pm and I just hope my order is ON TIME & READY for pick up at the reserved time since everything got charged on my debit card as soon as I checkout thru the walmart app. read more

Granted, I'm not a huge Walmart fan in the first place, but let's face it, sometimes it just makes sense to go where you can get everything in one place, rather than hitting 5+ stores. So, today I decided to give this new Walmart a try, being closer to my house & hoping to experience something nice & less "crazy-making" than the Norwood Walmart. While it was definitely less crowded & easier to get to, it only took me about 10 minutes to realize that they didn't have ANY of the items on my list! This Walmart is SO scaled down, in order to get neighbourhood approval, that I really don't see the point in it even being there. I mean, there are only certain things I go to Walmart for & if they're not going to carry those things... why bother? While this is the only Walmart you will find in the central Austin area, you will find many ups and downs to this pathetic mysterious retail establishment. I remember before this place even opened there would be morons protesting this at the intersection on a Saturday morning that if a Walmart was put in the traffic would be 3x as bad as it was. Traffic bad? I think this place really scared all the Austin hippies away. Cruising down Anderson lane all seems normal and breezy. The store is small and in a good way that you have to trek a touchdown 5 miles away to get something as simple as soap compared to other Walmart stores I've been to. Although I am not of fan of how Walmart runs its business with its policies and how it treats its emps, and the sh!t out of luck service it provides. I can still find use for a last minute midnight emergency when no one else is open. I am really hoping this store does not put out that sweet old lady's lingerie store next door that she has been running for generations. I'm not a big fan of Walmart, but sometimes I just need one thing that I know will be cheaper there than elsewhere. This is a cute little Walmart in the middle of a bustling shopping area. I like that it's smaller, there's always lots of parking, I've never had to wait in line to checkout, the employees are friendly, and it doesn't overpower the neighborhood like their original multi-story-with-parking-garage plan would have. Sadly, about 9 times out of 10 I cannot find what I need at this Walmart. I know what you're thinking, but trust me when I say I'm not looking for bayonets or bicycle handles or a specific type of sewing needle. I'm talking basic items, like car accessories, toys on sale, and birthday cards. Last Christmas, I wanted to get my cousin one of those handy car trash bag things, but this Walmart didn't have them. Last week, I needed to get a toy for my nephew's birthday, but I didn't want to spend a fortune since he already has lots of toys. I didn't find any on clearance and even the sales prices weren't that great. Last night, I went to find a birthday card, and they were all incredibly cheesy. I eventually found a nice one in their dollar section, but I'm sure the recipient will think of me as a cheap-o for buying a $1 birthday card. Oh well, at least the card is cute. In the end, this is a great neighborhood shop, especially if you just need some groceries since there's not a grocery store right in that same area. The Northcross area has built up pretty nicely and I think this Walmart fits in nicely there. read more

This Walmart is not a super-center and for that reason, I like it. It feels like a neighborhood grocery store with some extra items. The employees keep the aisles uncluttered and the lights a little dimmer than your standard Walmart, which really helps the overall feel (more like Target). I'm not a huge fan of their meat (it's not particularly fresh), but in a pinch, I don't mind buying from there. I enjoy their fruit selection and frequently shop their home goods (towels, bath mats, dishes, etc.). I will only complain about a particular service desk employee. Easily distracted, Elizabeth turns to employees to have conversations, stopping her conversation and work with customers. She has no sense of urgency and a lengthening line does not phase her. On the other hand, Lisa helped me tremendously with a debit card issue, allowing me to purchase a TV online (from a store kiosk), which I picked up 5 short days later from the service desk. Overall, I'll return to this store (since I work so close), but I prefer shopping at HEB for groceries. FYI - No garden center! read more

She rushed me and then told me all the food I wanted was discontinued, which I found hard to believe, but even if that was the case a good sales person would have offered a similar alternative. This is an absolutely crummy store. management of the store has arbitrary rules that are different than other stores in this chain. as an example of the management of this store has decided not to sell ammunition to people after 10 PM. that policy is an unwritten policy that is unique to the store. There is no signage anywhere in the store indicating that this policy exists. This store has signs for every other policy but not this ammo after 10 PM policy. They have definitely wasted my time driving across town to pick up 22 caliber long rifle ammunition. I will make every effort to buy 22 caliber ammunition at Academy and never at Walmart. Obviously I will not be buying anything else at Walmart either. Not at this store or any other Walmart store. Actually, overall, this seems like a really scummy store anyway. read more

Great place if you want to eat spoiled food and get treated like a criminal. Always check the dates on anything you purchase, most of the items will be expired or close. After going through the self scanner and having theft detectors, you will still have to wait in line and show your receipt! They act like everyone is a criminal! This is not Sam's or Costco, the checkout line is right there. Then they make you wait to leave. Screw you people, I'm leaving, I thought the stupid lady was going to tackle me! It was awful. I just purchased and packed everything into one bag, there was no opportunity to steal anything in the 10 feet I walked to the door. I did not come to be treated like a criminal and wait in ANOTHER LINE. Only go here if you want to be treated poorly, eat spoiled food and tick off the neighborhood.
