Overall: The BOGO menu is very limited, and I didn't know that before I got there, so I was disappointed. Maybe I'm spoiled but I've come to expect sushi restaurants to have a robust BOGO deal for rolls. They have speedy service, the food tasted fresh, and this is a more than decent sushi place. Vegetarian: I enjoyed their Spring Roll appetizer, and I had the Vegetable Roll and the Pink Lady Roll. They were very basic, but I enjoyed it. They have a very limited vegetarian menu so I can't give a strong recommendation, but there are options. Vegan: Both of the rolls that I had are also vegan so I can give the same recommendation to vegans as I do for vegetarians, come but don't expect to be blown away. Gluten-Free: If ever I was picking a restaurant for someone with a gluten-free diet, it would always be sushi hands-down because sushi generally does not have gluten. We first tried this place over a year ago, and I finally convinced my husband to give it another try. On our first most recent visit, we had a variety of dishes and no sushi rolls (although a few pieces of nigiri were enjoyed!). The curry my husband has was GREAT and he devoured it, my daughter's eyes got all big when she saw my shrimp tempura and she "helped" me with my dinner entree by eating most all of the shrimp (haha!); I can't blame her, they're good! I'm glad there was a big plate of tempura veggies that came along with the shrimp too. Her noodles, good too, but she was much more interested in my shrimp. Childrens' Day (a Japanese celebration that happens to land on the 5th of May, so often overlooked by those celebrating Cinco de Mayo) came around and I decided I really wanted sushi. We came back to Wasabi, and unfortunately we weren't really impressed by the sushi. Nothing really stood out, it was just okay. The rice seemed a little on the under-done side too, not nice and soft to complement the fish. My kiddo had a blast though devouring another plate of tempura shrimp! The service here is always friendly and helpful. The staff seems comfortable with younger children too. Had a great weekend lunch here and its great that they serve their lunch menu on saturdays. They arent open for lunch hours on sunday so be advised. We got the sunset and fantasy roll for bogo sushi and although they were good, they were small as I have come to expect from all Bogo sushi around town. The pad thai lunch was great along with the tom kha soup that we ordered. For 8 bucks on a lunch special it was a big portion that came with soup and a salad. Stellar deal. Tonight we tried something new and went with the Oyster Roll special. It was an I/O roll with fried oyster, jalepeno, asparagus. It had a nice contrast of textures and a great flavor. Our usual to-go rolls are the Mary Roll and the Deep Fried Bagel Roll. For $8 the Deep Fried Bagel Roll cannot be beat, if you like the combination of salmon and cream cheese. Wasabi has become a regular lunch spot for my work crew as it's located so close to our office. The food is delicious and good quality, and the service is friendly and generally fast. The BOGO sushi rolls are an especially big win for me as I need my sushi fix which can generally be pricey. One of the reasons I enjoy Wasabi so much is the variety of specialty rolls. They do have a good assortment in both their BOGO and regular prices sections, so no matter what I can find something that hits the spot. Very mediocre. Ordered a red curry with chicken and veg, pad Thai with beef, chicken satay and curry puffs. The curry puffs are huge, with too much potato and crust. The satay was okay. The beef in the pad Thai was good, but the flavor of the dish itself wasn't right; too much fish sauce and too sweet. The red curry was the tastiest thing we ordered, but I felt like they overdid it with the coconut milk and the veggies were mush. The side of rice they served with the curry was very small (about half a cup), and not nearly enough to accommodate the dish. I got a craving for Thai out of nowhere. I hadn't eaten any in close to six years but suddenly I felt i needed to get my hands on some masaman curry. I ordered some with chicken and pad Thai because I couldn't resist trying it. I anxiously awaited the delivery. The curry was exactly what I was craving. Creamy and rich, not too spicy but nice heat. The chicken was tender, the potatoes were cooked nicely and the cashews were delicious. I dig into the pad Thai as well. Full of flavor, a nice amount of sourness to balance all the flavors. We called them the next day to let them know since they were closed by the time we opened our order, and they DENIED it. They said they wouldn't be able to do anything about it since we hadn't called the day before, and then they accused us of lying. They repeated that they had packed the order even though we told them it wasn't in the packet, and then when I insisted they had the AUDACITY to say "we'll give you a fried rice next time you come because you are taking advantage of us." We were going to go back but never again will they get our business. We spent $200 at this restaurant and they have the audacity to treat their customers like such shit. If you are going on a Friday or Saturday, plan on a wait as it can fill up. When inside, its comfortable lighting and seating, usually with a nice and relaxed crowd. When ordering you can pretty choose as you like. For me, this was the first place that turned me on to the Mary Roll. Very good, definitely recommended - (with some warm saki of course). read more

I've been to Wasabi a few times, and it is pretty good, although probably not in the top tier of sushi restaurants in the area. My most recent visit was at lunch and I sat at the sushi bar. I ordered the crunchy shrimp roll with miso soup and green tea. The roll was pretty large I must say, and not a bad price at $10. It did kind of come apart a bit in my chopsticks but the may be due to the fact that I am not really deft at chopstick usage more than anything. The green tea and miso soup hit the spot on a cold Winter day! Service is friendly and this is a smaller and dated place compared to some other sushi restaurants in the area. I eat at Wasabi more than most other sit-down restaurants, since it's near my office. Because of this, I've sampled most of their menu over the last 3 years. They are a solid, consistent sushi and Thai curry place, with friendly staff that will welcome you back. Sushi rolls anchor the menu. Lunch menu is BOGO with some "fancy" rolls leading off. Regular rolls are great too, and are on the non-BOGO menu with sashimi of all types. One of the strengths of this place is actually being able to execute huge boats for 3, 4, or more and make it look appetizing. Business lunches with a client - hello! Their Thai curry (I prefer green; red is good too) is good, not crazy hot, but they can jack the spice level for you. I don't find their teriyaki that amazing, but let's face it - teriyaki is a made-up food anyway in the US, for people that aren't down with actual Asian food. The lighting is sort of dark and the decor is weird, like polished light wood stuck in the 90s and never updated, but the whole place is clean. There are also interesting touches like some TVs over the sushi bar and a huge saltwater fish tank, so it doesn't feel run down. Sort of like a Cheers bar for sushi? Let me know what you think. Staff is great; they will learn your name, regular rolls (if you order the same thing every time, like one co-worker of mine...), and are very friendly. The MacGregor plaza it's in is dying and looks half-vacant, but this place is a gem. Go there and enjoy yourself. read more

I really hate to be the one to give this place it's worst review, but this was the WORST sushi I've ever had. My crew and I arrived on a Saturday night at about 6pm, and there were about 3 other couples dining in the place. That should have been a clue to turn around and walk away, but we had purchased a Groupon and love giving new places a try. The menu seems a little overpriced for a small place that seems to stuggling. We ordered the shrimp tempura roll and spider roll along with dumplings. The spider roll was very soggy and I actually had to run to the bathroom and spit it out. The dumplings were very off tasting as well. My dining companions had some really basic vegetable rolls and complained that they were odd tasting as well. Our waitress never asked how the food was, and when she collected plates and saw the entire spider roll still there, minus one piece, she never said a thing. Overall a very disappointing experience. I should have known when I heard they had introduced the BOGO menu. What stinks is that even their premium rolls remind me of the budget conscious BOGO rolls. I got a restaurant.com coupon for Wasabi, so I took my family and some friends there for my father's birthday. The waiter was happy to accept the certificate, but he wasn't very good after that. We had 8 people there (4 using the certificate, 4 not) and he had a ridiculously hard time remembering to refill people's drinks or bringing the correct orders. But if you use the certificate, they automatically put an 18% tip on the check, so he got off well. The food was generally good. The noodle dishes were really good, especially the pad thai supreme. The sushi is pretty bland. I ordered the sushi mori, which showed a real lack of imagination. One of the sushi was lox, which was salty (and not really sushi, in my opinion), and there were two tunas and crab, which was redundant on top of the California roll. I was fairly disappointed. I'd say there are much better sushi/thai places in the area, and I'll be going to them next time. read more

This is our go-to sushi place and we "go to" it every 6 weeks or so. It's done well here - presentation is beautiful and I swear the best of the sashimi melts in your mouth - the salmon is always amazingly good with the tuna not far behind. My husband and I share the Sashimi mori ($24) with 4 pieces of 5 different fish and rice on the side and we also order a specialty roll ($8-$12 depending on our choice) which has 6 large pieces and an extra soup or salad (one of us gets the one that comes with the meal). This fills us up pretty well. (Plus my usual glass of plum wine...) We've always found the staff to be extremely pleasant - I always enjoy the food and the experience at Wasabi. read more

This review is for the sushi only--haven't ever tried the Thai dishes. Wasabi has quality sushi and ingredients, and because of this I would actually rather give it 3.5 stars. It used to be one of my favorite sushi places I've ever eaten at, but my recent experience fell a bit flat. The rice is always nice and soft but there was too much of it. There was also no way to just order a basic roll like spicy tuna/salmon or a Calfornia roll. The specialty rolls were good, but the combinations not the best I've ever had. One of the rolls we ordered also had so much masago that it took away from the other ingredients. The Dynamite roll was probably our favorite that we ordered with an excellent mix of flavors. The other reason I'm giving a lower rating is the wait time. When I order sushi, I want it made fresh so I expect a wait. It took 20 minutes for our sushi to arrive (3 rolls); the greater concern to me is how long it was going to take for all of the other patrons to receive their food as the restaurant went from near-empty to almost full during that 20 minutes. The interior is nothing special and has the sometimes distracting rap/pop music that seems ubiquitous to all sushi restaurants, but there was no song editing so families beware! Overall Wasabi is still a great place to get sushi and I would recommend it; I would just caution anyone who goes there with a time crunch! read more

Not bad, a little pricey, but not bad. The Spicy Tuna roll was well done and the presentation was nice. The service was quick and the waitress was nice (though slightly hard to find). The guys making the sushi were joking around with me and seemed to really like what they were doing. The biggest bonus was the area. It is nice and close to the Homewood Suites (where I was staying). The only downside was the scallops were a little spongy and the price was a little high for what you got. Save for that, it was a very nice experience and I would highly recommend Wasabi. read more

This used to be our go to for sushi. After having a terrible experience with carry out I wanted to try it again. We went back and while the service was good my favorite roll the Mary had a new look and taste. The Mayo was not the same and was not spicy. That is my dish there and because of that I will not be back. My husband said that his roll tasted very seaweedish and he was not a fan anymore either. Maybe just personal preference.
