The BOGO (buy one, get one) specialty rolls are what drew my friends and I here on a Sunday night for dinner. It was really hard to choose just two rolls because they all sounded incredible. We ended up trying the Sunrise Roll (tuna, avocado, asparagus, tempura flakes, topped with red tobikko), Yummy Roll (salmon, tempura flakes, mayo masago with seared tuna on top), Nemo Roll (salmon, cream cheese, scallions, topped with salmon, escolar and black tobikko), and North Carolina Roll (spicy tuna, tempura flakes, topped with avocado and sriracha sauce). Two of us got the Fashion Roll (eel, cream cheese, and avocado prepared tempura style and topped with eel sauce), which ended up being our favorite. Service was a bit slow but still good. Two of us had ordered hot water and our server was very attentive with refilling it. I also ordered the Tiger's Tear to-go (slices of grilled beef dressed with lime juice, roasted chili, ground roasted rice, onion, scallions, and cilantro served over fresh lettuce), which is essentially the Thai Nam Tok dish - so good. Tonight marks the third time I visited Wasabi this week. I feel like I've given it a fair test and I can honestly say that this restaurant is a solid four stars. Over the course of three nights I've tried Thai food and sushi which is what the restaurant offers. The atmosphere is cozy and warm with plenty of seating and mildly crowded. Christmas trees light up the inside with Christmas music playing on the intercom system, which was quite pleasant. All three times the wait staff have been extremely friendly and I've been seated immediately. Since I was only a party of one I was always offered the option of sitting at the bar or taking a table. Of course I took a table. The first night I started with vegetable tempura for an appetizer and a veggie green curry with Jasmine rice for my main. The next visit I started with the tom yum soup, and again with the vegetable green curry with tofu this time because I really like the green curry sauce. The tom yum soup was delicious with plenty of seafood and some vegetables and a type of mushroom that I never can remember the name of. While the soup itself was really good, the flavor didn't taste like tom yum soup that I've had in the past. After pondering what felt was missing, I believe it's the flavor of lemongrass. Again the soup was great but it didn't taste like Tom yum that I've had at other restaurants in the rest of the world. Tonight I decided to give the sushi a shake and tried the Miso soup for a starter and the wasabi Sushi roll for my main. The Miso soup was actually quite disappointing. While the flavor was good and it was loaded with seaweed and tofu, the temperature was quite lukewarm, not the usual hot soup that you would expect. I possibly could have let this slide however it's rather chilly tonight and lukewarm soup just didn't do it for me. The sushi roll called the Wasabi Roll, was really nice. It included cucumbers, tuna, and a special sauce on top with some roe eggs. The wasabi that came with it was spicy!!! I eat sushi all the time and I always have a generous portion of wasabi. This time, every single bite brought me to tears--it was extremely intense. I loved it!!! I would eat here again and again. Sadly the Miso soup was not the right temperature, but after three very good meals, Wasabi deserves four stars. read more

Well I wanna blame Uber Eats for all the issues (because Uber is.... well, Uber), but my issues fall fair and square on the restaurant. As such, I blame my husband's apparent grumpiness on the restaurant, too. May be better in house... but I don't live nearby to try it out. The driver getting our food waiting for at least 20 min on the food to be ready. She didn't even get there till 30 min after we ordered, so not sure what they were doing to assemble our Thai dumplings, soup, and fried rice (shouldn't these things be quick and easy?!). Anywho, it finally got here. All was going well till my husband's fork went limp and splattered dumpling sauce on his pants. Okay, time for soup.... an oddly small portion of soup for the price. Switches to chop sticks, but the chop sticks are no good at breaking up his soup noodles (the kind where you have to dump the soup liquid on the noodles so they break up. I'm beside him happily enjoying my chicken fried rice that was LOVELY and try to make him happy by giving him a bite. Then MY fork fails. Drops the perfect bite with TWO pieces of chicken, an onion, egg, and rice on the brewery table. Holy fork. He also thinks his soup is mediocre because it really was flavorless. He called it "beef water with cilantro" since all he could taste was cilantro. So he gives up, throws in the towel. No more eating. And now I have a grumpy, probably hungry husband. Thank you, Wasabi. Consider new plastic forks, please. read more

Wasn't impressed at all with the food. Sushi was very bland and wasn't fresh tasting. The noodles were extremely salty, felt like I drank a gallon of salt. Our server seemed like she wasn't into giving customer service, was constantly in a rush and an attitude, hardly anyone else was in there so not sure what the rush was all about or rudeness. The hallway to the bathroom was extremely odd with nothing but cleaning supplies and bottles of Advil everywhere that anyone could easily grab or take. We typically order takeout from Wasabi and it's usually fine. This was our first time dining in the restaurant. It was very crowded and quite loud. We waited about 10 minutes before someone came by, in quite a hurry and asked if we were ready to order. We asked for water while we looked at the menu, and our server took the wine menu away. Another server stopped by to ask if we needed anything, so we placed an order, assuming it was 'everyone takes care of every table' kind of place. After ordering food, we asked for the wine menu, and after a while another server appeared and took our drink order. It seemed like no one really knew what was supposed to happen and in what order. Our appetizers came quickly, but our entrees took another 30 minutes to arrive. We ordered another round of drinks, but my husband was the only one who received his. Then I received two, so it seemed there was confusion as to who was actually doing what with our table. We asked for a takeout box and our check, both of which were quickly delivered. We had to leave in a hurry, and realized that we left our takeout box on the table. I ran back inside to find that the table was cleared and got a response of: 'sorry you left so we threw the box away.' Overall: the food is good and with BOGO sushi it can be a good value. The almond crusted shrimp is super heavy on the almonds and light on the shrimp. The Thai dumplings were delicious. I would recommend takeout since the service seems chaotic. Disappointed in the overall experience and the sanitation rating was 95.5, so that's a bummer. read more

I had a yummy lunch on Monday. I ordered the Pad Thai lunch special with Shrimp. It came with miso soup and a salad with ginger dressing. I enjoyed it so much. The salad was perfect with the right amount of dressing. I had been craving Miso soup and that hit the spot! The portions were also a good size as well. I really enjoyed the Pad Thai. I was so full and I only ate about 1/3 of it. The reason why I am giving a 4 star review is because ur server had way too many tables. She was running around like a chicken without a head. In town visiting and stopped by as I remembered this being quite good last time we were here. Wow. Things have changed. Sushi was ok but nothing special and rolls are small. I got a spicy tuna salad that was drenched in dressing and soggy. My friend got fresh spring rolls that had a hint of shrimp and chicken but mostly greens, and severity lacked flavor. The drinks: it was clear they water down their alcohol - three of us had liqueur drinks and it was so painfully obvious we almost wanted to cancel our dinner order and leave. It seems they have taken great steps to lower their overhead. We were shocked how downhill this place has become. Update: I used to think Wasabi was a 5 star restaurant but I downgraded to 2 stars because this is the third time I have found pad sew ew noodles which aren't gluten free in my pad Thai. As a Celiac, this means yet again I will spend days feeling awful. The menu says it is gluten - free so they should cook the food in a designated gluten-free pan. Also tonight, I found a STAPLE in my food. Literally spit out a mangled staple. *shutters* Sadly, won't be returning. --- This is my favorite restaurant in the Holly Springs-Cary area. The staff is professional, and appropriately attentive. The food is delicious and always beautifully plated. Being Celiac vegan, I am so careful with where I eat out, and I grateful that Wasabi labels their menu with what is gf and that there are many gluten-free vegan options on the menu. I have tried all the local Thai restaurants and I enjoy Wasabi's pad Thai the most. My husband always enjoys his sushi as well. My only feedback is that I wish Wasabi was more environmentally-conscious and didn't use styrofoam for their takeaway and that straws were available upon request instead of put in all the drinks. read more

Wasabi is a good option in MacGregor Village for sushi and also other specialties like Thai curry and pad Thai. The lunch prices are very reasonable and under $10. The sushi rolls are BOGO and I also like how the menu has pictures of all their rolls. The service is very good and the restaurant has a good number of tables in their two dining rooms. read more

To start, I'd rate this place a 3.5 if I could, but I'll give the extra half star because the service was great! The name of the restaurant would lead you to think this was a Japanese-only restaurant, but it's one of those multi-ethnic restaurants that offers primarily thai and japanese food. The group ordered the chicken satay as an appetizer and I ordered a few sushi items that I typically use as a benchmark(uni, hamachi nigiri) and the N. Carolina (spicy tuna, avocado, tempura flakes, and sriracha). Chicken Satay - decent, although had a weird texture that I can't describe Nigiri sushi - good quality fresh fish N. Carolina roll - tempura flakes were a little overcooked, but overall a good roll Haley(sp?), our waitress then came over and informed me that I could order another roll for free with their BOGO deal. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the roll I ordered. What I do remember is that it had white tuna on it because I usually avoid it, but it ended up being delicious. Service was spot on with our drinks being refilled before we had a chance to ask. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. She seemed to be available whenever we had a question. Go here if you with a group of people with a variety of tastes. They'll likely find something on the menu they can order. read more

The only "beef" I have was that in the two times that I have been there, the same host, with the sourpuss, not friendly at all. The host is the first person you see, the first impression of the resturant. But this host... no greeting, no smile, no eye contact. I didn't feel I was welcomed as she seemed to be bothered that she has to seat me. On the way out, No good bye, no "thanks for spending 40 dollars on a lunch for one person". Nothing! Expansive restaurant with few in-store diners so we had no trouble getting a seat well spaced from others. The menu has not been trimmed down at all... there is TONS to choose from, including several vegetarian and tofu dishes. My only complaint is that they didn't offer a poke bowl with tofu although I could have easily ordered the tofu appetizer and a poke bowl with no fish and made my own. The coconut soup was fantastic for $5 but my tongue still hurts, let it cool before slurping right in. The rolls were also quite generous so my dining partner couldn't finish the two he ordered. Will definitely be returning. Our meal consisting of two rolls, two apps, and a salad was just under $40, before tax and tip. read more
