Quaint. Small. Packed. Open on Christmas morning. The epitome of a perfect NY Diner! Christmas Eve 2024, I wake up at 5 AM in Kansas City only to realize, I'm spending Christmas alone. Bummer. I make coffee, turn on the fire, sit in my chair, and I realize... alone is not fun. I buy a ticket, pack a duffle bag, and head to the airport. 30 hours in NYC... no more perfect of a way to spend the holiday. As I sit at my gate, my partner texts, "my flight is canceled, come pick me up". My response: "Meet me at gate B36". Christmas together! After a fun Christmas Eve evening, we woke up needing a good brunch and Washington Square Diner did just that. In pure NY style, they sat us quickly at the bar, coffee and water are there instantly. We order. Food is there in moments. Hot, fresh, delicious! Everything was perfectly flavorful. The bustling diner around us just made the morning even more magical! There is nothing but wonderful I can say aout WSD. Lovely little diner that I hope stays alive and thriving for many years to come! Thanks for making Christmas 2024 magical!

sometimes the local institution is just bad for only $19.98, you too can have "food"

I thought this was a great classic diner, very fast service and a wide variety on the menu. Our food came out quickly and they were able to modify anything on the menu (however I did ask for well done bacon and it was not well done IMO). Very spacious place so you could definitely come here with a large group or there are plenty of solo diners eating at the bar or the 2 seaters. I would recommend this place for some classic diner food. Also pro tip, if you pay with cash you get a discount!

Fast and simple service. Whole wheat waffle was perfectly crispy and fluffy. Bacon was cooked well. Still on the hunt for shredded hashbrowns vs homefries but overall solid diner fare in a cozy space.

Went here on thanksgiving to just grab avocado toast. The guy just made toast and threw some onions and tomato and avocado on toast. Obviously they've never had a proper avocado toast. The price was shocking considering the avocado has brown spots on it.

Hungry after a long day so why not hit up a diner? It was fine I mean it wasn't the best tasting chili fries which is what I got My friends liked their sandwiches but they were starving which makes food taste even better always lol Bathroom had a roach pop out at me lol so yeah it's nyc I guess so maybe my food had that extra flavor but that's why I'm like not doing a 5 Plus it says it's 24hrs but it's not We were one of the last people just before 10pm and I thunk they closed the doors shortly after Service was good and friendly

Pleasantly surprise with this diner. Always see it but only tried it recently. Came 4pm on a weekday & the place was almost empty but was full by the time we left. Our waiter was patient & very attentive. Refilled my water several times & Gave us extra dressing for our salad. Food came out fresh, good portion & reasonable priced. The place has an old school Diner vibe which i like, its also clean & near the subway station.

Met my expectations for a diner, atmosphere was easy and simple. Walked in to sit at the bar and got service right away. Ordered French toast w/ham and eggs. The kitchen was simple and they had a vast menu...lots of options if you aren't sure what to get. I was looking for breakfast and got what I needed. Ended up taking home 2 slices of french toast and turned out great the next morning for round two. The restroom was a bit odd as there was water on the floor...too much to just be from people's hands and the dryer was behind the toilet on the wall. Very inconvenient for someone who doesn't have much reach. Guess you could say authentic diner experience? lol

I have traveled this world from Asia, Europe, North America,…read moreand South America, and let me tell y'all, I have never ever had pancakes like this before. It's clearly evident why the pancakes at the Gold Diner are famous, viral, and most talked about. My husband and I were obsessed with the lemon zest on the butter. I have never tasted a syrup like theirs before. It was fluffy and was giving a bit of mochi consistency (which I'm obsessed with mochi lol). Although the pancakes are the star of the show, the fried chicken is out of this world amazing too bursting with the greatest flavors. Enough about the food, service is straight up top notch! Everyone who works there is passionate about being a member of the Golden Diner. They work as fast and efficiently as possible to get everyone in their doors. Thank you so much for welcoming us with arms wide open and for the best service. You guys are awesome!

The pancakes are decent, though, with a perfect fluff inside and crisp on the outside. The lemon zest adds a bit of tang and flavor to the honey butter's sweetness, which I love. It isn't the best pancake in the world for me, and I'm a little underwhelmed given the hype for this. But I think if I ignored the hype, it's still a solid pancake. It isn't anything crazy to me, though. I wouldn't wait hours in line for this, but if you're a pancake fiend, definitely go here! Service was very efficient and attentive. They were very kind and food came out very promptly. Also, there isn't much seating inside, and there's only one bathroom. If you want to try the pancakes without much wait, then go on a weekday that isn't breakfast or early lunch.

There was already a line inside when we got there, but they did a fantastic job getting everyone seated in a good amount of time. The restaurant is definitely on the small side and very tight, but the staff here know how to navigate this place. The person working the food was a machine. She did a fantastic job making sure the food came out correctly and handed it to the servers. I had a front row seat and just watched her orchestrate the whole time. Anyways, I ordered the pastrami on rye and the wife ordered the pastrami reuben. The food came out at a good pace. One thing I noticed is that Carnegie rolls up their pastrami. Most deli's I've been to usually would slice the meat and lay it on the bread, but not here. I can see why they roll it up as it gives you the impression that you are getting a lot of meat. But the problem is that there are parts of the bread where there's no meat whatsoever. I'd rather have them lay the meat on the bread so that every bite I get a bit of meat also. I just ended up not eating the part that was just bread. However, I do love that they toast the bread. Gives it a nice crunch when you bite in to it. I did think it was odd that they give you a side salad with balsamic vinegar. Afterwards, we got a slice of their NY Cheesecake. This was probably the biggest piece of NY Cheesecake I've ever gotten at a Deli. Usually it's sliced thinner than this. It was topped with strawberries that tasted like jam. The cheesecake was good and not too sweet. It had that thickness and smoothness from a NY Cheesecake. This is definitely not a place where you would eat and chit chat. It's more of a get in, get out type of place so they can turn over the table for the next guests.

Fast forward to 2026 (where I'm finally not broke as hell), the day has finally come, and I am ecstatic about stepping foot into this diner that surprisingly is still standing in 2026. The inside certainly feels like a diner, but not quite the old-school dinginess that I'm used to--it's clean. Given that it was Sunday at noon, it was very crowded in there and mainly flooded with tourist groups, but a table opened up for us pretty quickly. For a NYC diner, the menu is certainly small - this is probably done to keep tables moving faster. I got the Pastrami Hash & Eggs and it was just overdone and super oily and dry--almost as if they just refried everything except the sunnyside egg. Not gonna lie, I was very disappointed, given that I had waited for so long to come here, only to get food that was an attempt to give the staleness another chance by refrying and reheating. I actually beat myself up a little the rest of the day for finishing the whole thing, knowing that the oversaltiness was flirting with opening up some high blood pressure. It was also not moderately priced by any means (was close to $30), but I know I'm helping pay for that Midtown and proximity to Central Park pricing. Not sure if I'll return, which saddens me, but also knowing that they're part of a conglomerate at Fireman Group (and still run independently in a sense) makes total sense

There was no line and I was seated immediately, but it was already packed (which indicates the food is top quality). Egg Cream: This chilled beverage has a beautiful appearance, especially the thick foam at the top. The ratio of seltzer, milk, and chocolate syrup were stirred perfectly. It was highly satisfying and a perfect alternative for a traditional breakfast drink. If you are not desiring the chocolate flavor, this specialty drink is also served in vanilla. BBC Omelette: This breakfast plate may have the same initials as the 24-hour news channel, but there is no relation whatsoever. This omelette was stuffed with broccoli, bacon, and cheddar cheese. These are not typically the toppings I order with an omelette, but I was feeling adventurous. It was a wise choice to explore this specialty plate because it surpasses my taste buds by a long shot. I never would have guessed broccoli and melted cheese taste well combined with an egg. A side of hash browns and toast is included. They were the backbone to the breakfast plate. In addition to a great meal, the service was impeccable. After I was seated, multiple servers checked up on me to make sure I wanted a drink. They always passed by and refilled my water glass.
