It's a hit or miss. Brought in a vintage G-Shock I hadn't used forever and needed the battery replaced. When I went to pick it up they told me it wasn't the battery, it just didn't work anymore. I found it strange as it was put away years ago working perfectly. I took it to a different place, they changed the battery and the watch was perfect again. I went back with a friend (her choice), and they did a great job saving her expensive watch wristband which would have cost hundreds of dollars to replace. Went to buy silver coins, bought 4 from them a week ago, when silver was 30.00 an ounce, went back this week, silver was down to 23, said I would like to buy 4, lady pulled them out, guy in back would not sell. Put a sign not for sale if your not offering them!!, I was going to have my rolex service done there, and drop off the watch. So glad they were jerks to me, so I could save myself from having Belmont Pawn work on my watch, after reading all the yelp reviews from non employees!! I will take it gladly to authorized service, and pay the extra, since they take the watch completely apart, that guy would probably just screw me like he did on the attempted transaction of silver. Yes, a vacation weekend in Long Beach, just because I had never before been to Long Beach. I decided on drive down from he central coast that I wanted an old school wrist watch that I would have to wind every day-you know, one with hands, and a spring instead of a battery. Had a blast in Long Beach on Saturday, then on Sunday, I asked a local friend to help me find a watch shop. We showed up at the Watch and Clock Center just after they opened on Sunday. After explaining what I wanted, the young woman who instantly greeted us was more than happy to show as many watches as I wanted to see and try on. For the better part of an hour she stuck with my friend and me, offering excellent customer service, expertise, opinion, and advice, in the most friendly, professional manner. I ended up spending $80 more than I thought I would; but I took away memorably pleasant shopping experience and a beautiful watch that I love to use exactly how I imagined. The next time I need a watch, I'll make the 350 mile round trip to Watch & Clock Center in a heartbeat. I recommend this business to everybody. At least 6 stars! read more

Several repairs we completed while I waited at a very reasonable price. They have a wide array of watches from $ to $$$ and I am like the styles they carry. They have a sign saying they buy gold jewelry, so I brought in a gold necklace I don't wear anymore and asked the employee how much they would buy it for. He (younger man) got a scale out, looked the necklace over and said "ma'am this in silver, and its only worth about $6, would you like to sell it?" Wow! I hate to pour salt into an open wound as many of the reviews on Yelp trash this place, but they are probably reflections of what goes on here. I've had two experiences here. I won't go into too much detail, but yes the customer service sucks. Last year, per my request, the store ordered a hard to get leather band for my watch. They said they'd call me at the end of the week when the order was in. Never heard back. I called. They were still waiting for the band to come in. Never heard back ever again. Strike 1. This week, I took an older watch in that needed a new movement. They said the would look for one that fit my watch. Days passed. I called. The girl says, "well I haven't been up to LA yet to pick up parts." She said she was going up to LA this week and the watch would be ready in a couple of weeks. I said, "no thanks. The attitude of the worker/ owners here is terrible. They walk around like they own the world. It's a store wake up. The service is terrible and customer service SUX. I took a watch in for a new battery it $15 not cheap. I've found between 7-10 is the going rate. When I got it back I noticed the day kept changing before it was supposed to. I took it back and explained and he said that the crown was loose BS!!!! I said it was fine before he got to it. After writing of my experience with the girl at this store, regarding my over-priced battery and her poor attitude, I received a note from a manager there. He apologized for the girl's attitude and informed me that she indeed OVERCHARGED ME for the battery by about $8.00. He requested that I come in and introduce myself. He stated that there is a solution for this problem and he would be happy to treat me right. I was very happy about that. I made two attempts to meet John. One day, he wasn't working and the next time, he wasn't working there anymore. I ended up meeting with who I believe was the boss/owner. I reiterated the situation to him and he was well aware of my previous review. He informed me that the girl who had overcharged me has since been fired. But now, to get a refund of the difference, he required the removal of my review. Originally I said Ok. But then I had time to think about it. That money is mine. It is owed to me. There should be NO negotiation. My review was the experience I had in that store. After careful consideration, I've decided to leave my review intact. I will NOT negotiate for money that is rightfully owed to me. Perhaps if he had immediately refunded me the money, THEN asked if I'd consider removing my review, I would've.... gladly. First and formost, a word of caution. Do not trust this this business with anything of value. Second, Mark Messinger, the proprietor is an unscrupulous liar. I brought him my gold rolex watch for routine repair on 2/7/04. For the next THREE YEARS he gave me one excuse after another as to why he couldn't produce my watch. This man is an accomplished liar who is never at a loss for an excuse. I finally took him to small claims court and won a settlement on 1/10/08 in the amount of $3050.00. I never found out what he did with my watch...other than to steal it. Over the past 2 1/2 years her has slowly paid me, but I have had to continue to badger him for payments. More than 75% of the time he has promised a payment and told me to come in on a specific day, I have gone in to get it only to have him come up any number of lame excuses. "couldn't get to the bank", "mother-in-law was sick", "business has been bad....no money"....all after he had PROMISED there would be a payment. According to my records he still owes me $300. which he refuses to pay. This man does not deserve to be in business. He is absolutely not to be trusted. ZERO STARS...This place needs a lesson in customer service. Forget that they ignore you when you walk through the door...my experience started when the husband/wife owners started arguing. Then they ordered my watch band, which I pre-paid, and said it would be ready in five days. 10 days later I sent my son in...no watch band. "We'll call you," they told my 12 year old. Three weeks later I called and John answered the phone and said..."Oh, we had your wrong number. The band is here." Sent my son in and John calls and says, "Guess what? The band doesn't fit your Tiffany clasp." At that point I said, "Then it's the wrong band." He started to argue with me and I said to credit my card and they needed to improve their customer service if they wanted the locals business (I live a block away). He hung up on me! Yes, he hung up on me! My son called me back on his cell and said, "Mom, he just hung up on you" and then he started making comments to my son about how difficult women can be. Really, John? I told my son to get my watch, its original band and get out of there. A few moments later John called and said, "Oh, my phone came unplugged." BS...my son saw him slam the phone down. STAY CLEAR OF THE WATCH & CLOCK CENTER IN BELMONT SHORE ON 2ND STREET. How does a place like this manage to stay in business in a high rent district? Paul the owner or manager idk he's like 60 super rude to me the customer!!!!!! I took him a piece of jewelry to sell w 15 diamonds and low and behold it didn't sell because they marked up the price 60%. Well of course it wasn't going to sell but they didn't want me to see the price tag Ripoffs!!! Then I go to pick it up and I politely and respectfully ask for the diamonds to be tested or checked, you know make sure they didn't switch them out. I went to the watch and clock center today to replace a band for my 1940 Hamilton watch. They were very helpful and John, one of the guys there, not only sized my watch and found the correct band for it, but also polished my watch which i inherited from my dad. It needed a new lizard band and when he was finished, my watch made me feel like Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca! Good price and a good job. Customer service, %100! read more

This just happened and is so funny I must post it. I was returning home today from laser eye surgery, and I noticed that the latch on my wristwatch was so loose it would come unlatched at a touch. Worried that my watch would fall off and I would lose it, I stopped at the Watch & Clock Center, where I have had many pleasant experiences (including once when I called them one minute before closing time and they kept the shop open until I got there to drop off an item for appraisal). So, today I walk in their store with my watch, completely forgetting that (a) I have one eye completely dilated and the other eye normal, and (b) more comically, I have a big 'X' drawn in black marker over my left eye, something they do in pre-op to make sure they work on the correct eye. The owner is at the counter and though I must have looked a fright, he does not bat an eye but fixes the latch for free, puts it back on my wrist, and opens and closes the latch a few times to make sure it is okay. Had a fairly sophisticated and expensive watch (Omega Speedmaster) repaired here. They did a great job. Had to get a part from Omega (no easy task). They got the right part and fixed it correctly, the first time. This is not a Timex battery folks, this is a major watch repair. I was not sure going in if a "local" shop could handle this - some people would tell you only go to Omega themselves. But they did and I was extremely pleased. They have also done some other miscellaneous work for me over the years on some high end watches and I was always satisfied. One time they did a rhodium plating and it had a slight blemish and they offered to re-do it for me. I decided not to bother, but just the offer was nice. I recommend them and I do question some of the reviews here. I have never been charged $40 for a re-sizing or an exorbitant amount for a battery. read more

I've always received great service here. I took my Tiffany watch here for a battery change which was very reasonable and comparable to other watch repair shops. They offered to polish the stainless steel which had been pretty scratched up after years of constant use. I was pleased to learn that they could do this with a 24 hour turn around. I was otherwise planning to send it to Tiffany&Co in NYC to have it polished. They called me promptly to inform me that it was ready to pick up. They also removed a link for me at no charge. The watch looks brand new again. They did a great job and I will be going back. They have a lot of great vintage watches for sale. read more

Having grown up in Belmont Shore and recently moving back, I was glad to see some of the old businesses I remember. Unfortunately the customer service and attitude of the employees currently working here are so horrible that I will never set foot in this store again. The last time I was in for a battery replacement, I was virtually ignored , a simple greeting or " be right with you" is not too much to expect. I gave them another chance when I was looking for a new dive watch.... unfortunately it was the same poor customer service. For a neighborhood store they are far from neighborly. I will avoid doing any business with them from now on as it seems that they could care less. Sorry but you have lost the respect of a real Belmont Shore native. read more

Seller Beware! My husband and I sold three rings and a watch to Mark who is the owner of this business. He wrote us a check on the spot and we were thrilled at how quickly the transaction went. Not more than three days after depositing his check we received a call from our bank that the check was being returned for insufficient funds. It took us almost a whole month with several trips and phone calls to Mark to get our money. Instead of being honest and telling us he did not have the money at the time to buy from us he gave us a bad check and dodged us repeatedly. Yes, he finally did pay us the full amount but the hassle that we went through to get it was unbelievable. He told my husband on numerous occasions over the phone that he would have the money the next day and when we would show up he either did not have it or was not there to give it to us. Of course, no one else at the store could help us. One of his employees who helped, rather did not help us on a few occasions told us that he did not have access to Mark's cell number to contact him. What a bunch of malarkey! I will never set foot in this store again and if you are thinking of selling to them, think twice. read more

STAY AWAY! I wish I had checked the other Yelp reviews of this business BEFORE making the mistake of patronizing it. The attitude that permeates this store and its staff is overwhelmingly negative and arrogant. I asked if they could switch the belt clip on my pocket watch to a bracelet/necklace style clasp. The snarky "clerk" behind the counter said, "Give me twenty bucks, and I'll order the part," as if he were giving me a military command. I was stupid enough to give him the money; I should have turned and walked out of the place the moment he spoke to me that way. He told me the part would arrive in about one week. Two weeks later: no part, no communication from the store. I called and was told by the same guy who placed the order that it was out of his hands. I would need to speak to Mark, the owner, but he could not tell me when Mark would be in the store. Another week later, and I went into the store to deal with the same clerk. Again, he gave me the run-around and a boat load of evasive answers to my questions. Again, he said I would have to talk to Mark. I asked this clerk if he would call Mark to find out the status of my order and then call me back with an update. The clerk's customer-service oriented response: "I'm not going to do that." My favorite part of that conversation was when he told me not to be frustrated. The arrogance, evasiveness, and absolute lack of professionalism made me wonder how this place manages to stay in business. Yet another week goes by--FOUR WEEKS after the original order that was going to take ONE week--and I finally receive a call that the part is in--but it might not fit my watch! Sure enough, it didn't. I ask for a refund, and our favorite clerk mysteriously does not know how to process refunds. You guessed it: I have to see Mark! Yeah, right. I am told to come back in an hour to see the great and powerful Mark. Lo and behold, he is actually there. His demeanor made the clerk seem like a charmer. He processed my refund with the politeness with which his clerk took my order, commanding "Give me your debit card!" He had to try a couple of times before he could get the refund to go through. Clearly, this guy does NOT process many refunds (surprise!). When I was finally finished with this place, I needed a shower and a stiff drink. In the meantime, I had another watch that needed some links removed. I took it to McCarty's (also on 2nd Street), and they were fantastic! I asked what they knew about Watch & Clock Center, and they told me the place has a complaint file as thick as a rib eye steak. GO TO MCCARTY'S! read more

I dropped a wall clock off at this business 10 weeks ago. During that time I called 4 times to check on the repair of the clock. I was always told they were waiting for the part to come in. Three of the four times I was told I would get a call back from the jeweler to explain why it was taking so long; no one ever called me back. Fast forward to today. I called them just now and told the very rude man who answered the phone that I was coming in to pickup the clock. He told me that the clock wasn't there. Now it's not just that the part is not in, apparently the clock isn't there either. I told him that something seemed fishy about all this. His reply was "Listen, there's nothing fishy about this, we've been in business 22 years, and no one stole your friggin clock lady." Really, wow. First, I didn't accuse them of stealing my clock so not sure where that came from. Secondly, having a man talk to me that way is very disturbing. I feel sorry for his wife and if there are any, children. Must be terrifying to live with someone like him. I was always polite to them on the phone, and was today as well. I am sad that they have my clock since my dear friend who recently died gave me this clock as a birthday present a few years ago. I don't see how they've stayed in business for 22 years but I do hope they go out of business in year 23. Anyway, buyer beware. i have bought 3 watches here previously and after today i will not enter the store again. i received a citizen eco wr eco drive watch as a gift.. i liked it but didn't love it and i brought it into the watch place here on 2nd to see if i could trade up etc. the girl who was working the front is super cool., she's a daughter i guess, but she had to ask the guy (owner) in back about it. he never bothered to even come up front. i was the only customer in the store. he just yelled out some super low number and i declined and was leaving but stopped to look at another watch and i heard him yell something else. i don't think he thought i was still there but it was something about online prices which i had checked that day, he attitude was snotty and i called him out but he wouldn't make an appearance. the poor girl was stuck in the middle. i just left instead of continuing but i did mention i would not be back and that being challenged that way in a retail store in this or any neighborhood was pretty amazing to me. too bad he couldn't take the time to be polite and make a deal with me. they lost a long time customer. read more
