First they called me to schedule, then I asked if they could "pretty please" fit us in sooner to let me know. Well instead of 1-4pm they came at 9am since they had a spot open up. I was thrilled. And lucky!! They came right at 9 And got us COOL super quick. The tech wasn't the most friendly but he was good at his job. And by not very friendly I just mean he was a bit icey (no pun intended,) but he did NOT want to engage in any type of conversation. He did not want to engage period. It was fine. He got it fixed but the office and scheduling were phenomenal. Customer care and service 10/10. I do never hope to need them again but I couldn't recommend them more. read more

The former owners of our house regularly used Watts for maintenance, and I am pretty sure they installed the heating/central air at some point as well. I knew if the former owners (who were VERY particular and took great care of this house) used Watts, then naturally they were the only place I called when our central AC died during the most recent heatwave - can you think of a more awful time for central AC to die?! Bubba was super thorough and fixed my unit. He even did some basic maintenance like cleaning to get it to its best shape. I thought I'd be waiting forever and would die in the heatwave lol, but they were able to get me in within 24 hours which I so appreciated. I'm a first-time homeowner so I don't have a comparison of what is considered "expensive," but I think in general, you get what you pay for. Other than maintenance I hope I rarely have to call Watts, but I'd recommend them for anybody who is in the unfortunate position to need repairs. :) read more

We are in need of a whole home generator and contacted 4 contractors who offered various solutions but the representatives were not only divergent in their bids, they were very different in their listening skills. We are an elderly couple and cost vs. benefit, ease of installation, etc. are all considerations. OMG, this place was great! Right around the corner from me too! Luke showed up and was professional and just greeat. I have a 1940s home with an old ancient non-furnace heater! I didn't even know how it all worked. He took a look at it and said "no problem!'. A week later he was back and had it done and cleaned and even put in an ignitor for my pellet stove and closed the back of it as well. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that after having had a car accident that I've been dealing with the past couple of weeks. I've been customer of Jacob's Heating for 13 years, during which time they installed a new furnace and thermostat as well as performed twice yearly maintenance on my furnace and AC. My problem was that the fan was not blowing the heat out at full force. I became frustrated with Jacobs front line (those who answer phones and book appointments) when they would not give me any idea of what I might be dealing with. Not only was I not able to speak to a technician, but they would not relay a message to one. My only option was a $160 MINIMUM service call. I was not opposed to a service call, but I don't think it was unreasonable to get an idea of what I was looking at, if in fact it was a problem at all. I decided to go elsewhere and chose Watts based on yelp reviews. I talked to 2 different people when I called. Neither could diagnose my problem as they weren't technicians, but at least they were sympathetic. Tanner arrived right on schedule. It turned out to be a problem involving the furnace computer which can't be accessed. Oh, dear lord! "Open the bomb bay doors, Hal." It was a tricky situation and involved changes in the settings that had been made by previous Jacob's visits. After 3 hours he felt it was resolved, but wouldn't know right away because the computer has to reset itself. A couple of days later it still wasn't working so the head tech came (an appointment Tanner had scheduled "just in case"). He was able to tweak the settings and it was fixed in about an hour. The did not charge me for the follow-up call. Thank you Watt's. You have a new customer! read more

Luke came out to install a nest thermostat, I asked him to set it up to be completely non programmable so any changes had to be made manually. After he left we used the AC and the nest kept increasing the temperature at which the AC would start without any prompting from me. I called and asked if Luke could come back and fix this to set the nest to manual control only, was told to call the The nest customer service line. I had already paid the Watts Heating and Cooling bill at the time of service. Nice follow through. Guess they did not want a return customer. I will go back to A-Temp for any further needs. read more

Since Watts installed the furnace in our home, I called the number on the sticker to have them come out and service our furnace and A/C. While friendly, there were several problems. When they cleaned the outside A/C unit, they splashed cleaner on the siding of our home which left discolored splotches everywhere and had to be repainted. We had to have them come back because they caused a gas leak. With all the problems, they offered to give us a discount on our service for this year and promised to call us in August to set up an appointment - Never called. Definitely quality and service problems here. read more

I had a guy from Watt's come out to check on my furnace which was not coming on. After letting me know that it had simply been turned off (silly me), he proceeded to do a thorough diagnostic review. He then charged me almost twice the price I had been quoted on the phone ("because I checked the heat exchanger," he says, even though he had not told me that he was going to do that or that it would cost more money). Then, this gentleman informed me that my furnace needed to be completely replaced and if I did so much as turn it on again, I'd be in danger of poisoning my whole family with carbon monoxide. My husband thought this sounded fishy and arranged for a second opinion. Second guy comes out, looks the whole thing over (including the heat exchanger, for no extra charge), and says that it's old but will probably last another 5-10 years and is certainly not going to poison us. Even brought his carbon monoxide detector in to verify zero carbon monoxide. (The Watts's guy said he "didn't even need to get out his detector" because he "could just tell" that our furnace was spewing CO.) So... if you want to buy a whole new furnace just because you accidentally turned yours off, Watt's is definitely the place to call. read more

Great experience with Watts. Had a 30-year old furnace that died right in the middle of winter. Barry walked me through my options and helped me select a plan within my budget. Excellent customer service and exceptional detail explaining what was wrong and what needed to be done to fix it. Couldn't fit me into the schedule for a week, so they loaned me industrial grade space heaters to warm the house in the meantime. Technicians came out during a snow storm to finish the installation and ensure we'd have heat. Very pleased with quality service and treatment from top to bottom. These guys are awesome! We moved in to a house that, unbeknownst to us, had a very old furnace. On the day we moved in...boom...no heat. It was the first few 30+ degree days in Portland, so many other HVAC companies were unable to help. Not Watts! I used Watts to 1) install new AC at my house 2) perform maintenance on my furnace. Josh/Keenan were my install team and they were very timely, professional, diligent and tidy. I'm very happy with the work they did. Watts was the most thorough in assessing my house for AC install and provided me the best combination of a great AC unit at a good value (I got several quotes!). Tanner performed the maintenance to my furnace. Tanner was great! Very professional, thorough, and took the time to answer questions and explain his findings. Originally I had had a third party inspect my furnace and they had recommended a more involved and expensive maintenance to my furnace. On inspection from Tanner, this was not needed at this time, nor likely for a long time. You can expect that Watts will not sell you products or services you don't need. In addition, you can expect that Watts will keep your house as tidy as they found it. I really appreciated this extra attention to detail. I am selling my house and needed to have the furnace serviced so my son and I did the yelp search. Also needed it done asap this company was the best. I have a furnace that works with my water heater and was told by inspector that a new water heater was needed too. Probably the most disorganized company ever. Needed an AC repair done, the first appointment was scheduled on the Friday of that week. The person in charge of quoting never showed up. After a phone call, it was said that they had me for a different day. I wasn't as bothered about it, until they had called to schedule a time for the city inspector to check it out after it was installed. At first, they had me scheduled for a day that I had totally wiped my schedule out for. The city inspector came and had to reschedule because they did not bother to set up a ladder for him, which he said was not new information to them. Then, all of a sudden I get a call saying that they needed to reschedule for the next week ONLY on a day I had an appointment just because it was "convenient" for them. Told them it didn't work for me, but she had decided to keep pushing. They come and leave the ladder on the front porch, which my husband had to set up then all of a sudden the guy shows up to pick up the ladder with no call beforehand that he was on his way. My husband left work to take down this ladder and the worker was pretty rude about it. They literally need to get their stuff together!!! read more

Watts Heating did not install our furnace but the company that did installed it incorrectly. They installed a high-efficiency condensing furnace that requires a drain and the drain was installed improperly on the outside of the house. Watts Heating worked on the furnace for the first time last Summer when they did routine maintenance. The Watts Heating technician never mentioned any problem with the drain when he did the maintenance. During a very cold period this Winter our furnace stopped working twice. Watts Heating was called both times. The first time the technician could not find a problem. The second time the technician found that the drain had frozen shut and caused the furnace to stop working. He said the installation instructions require the drain to be discharged indoors exactly to avoid this problem of it freezing shut when the furnace is most needed during the coldest weather. He arranged the drainage to go into buckets indoors and recommended that we have a plumber install a drain for the furnace in our garage. Now we are emptying buckets and urgently trying to get a plumber to install a drain. Had the Watts Heating technician who did the maintenance during the Summer given us this information at that time we could have had a drain installed much more conveniently and without the cost of repair service and the cold days we had to endure. Sometimes Watts Heating does good, complete work, but not always. The technician who did our maintenance work failed to identify a very relevant defect that should have been obvious to anyone knowledgeable about our furnace. read more

I had an appointment scheduled three weeks out because they were so booked. The day of the appointment no one showed up. I called and they said we tried to call you last night to comfirm but the number you gave us was disconnected. I said, no it isn't, I'm calling you from the number. They wrote my number down wrong and apparently if they call you and you don't answer they just cancel your appointment. Then I had to wait another week before they could "fit me in". What a joke.
