The Wayback Burger in Cheshire is my favorite location from the rest of the chain in Connecticut. I particularly love the atmosphere with the low lighting, forcing natural light into the restaurant. It creates a relaxing vibe while enjoying lunch. In a plaza with the YMCA, a Goodwill, and other shops and lunch choices, this Wayback Burger is hardly busy too. The lady that always greets us with a warm smile and flips our burgers is a delight too. We recently stopped in for a quick lunch. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. My husband got the Cajun Burger that had two patties, lettuce, tomato, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and a Cajun remoulade. I opted in for a Craft Your Own. Luckily, there were paper menus at the register that I could easily navigate the wide list of choices and toppings. I was happy to see that Wayback added Impossible Burgers to its menu. I was never a fan of their veggie burger. My Impossible Burger was topped with pepper jack cheese, mushrooms, grilled onions, jalapeños, pickles, lettuce, and the Cajun remoulade. I wanted my burger spicy! For our sides, we got regular fries and Fried Pickles that my husband and I shared. Surprisingly, the side portions were large. The burgers were juicy and filling. I loved the fried pickles and it also came with a ranch sauce. The chips were perfectly fried, juicy and had a lot of tanginess Wayback Burgers is a great option if you're are craving a burger--but don't want fast food or have time and money for a sit down restaurant. After reading so many mixed reviews on Wayback Burgers I didn't know what to expect. Food: I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger, and a regular order of fries. These burgers are not patties. They take fresh ground beef the size of a meatball put it on the grill for less than a minute, and then press them down to form a large burger. The burgers were juicy, and delicious on a nice fresh roll. The regular fries are more like a large order. These are not fries that are sitting under a heat lamp for 20 minutes they're made when you order them. Staff: The friendly staff greeted each person as they came up to the counter, and make sure they said goodbye to each person before they left the restaurant. They all were wearing a hat, and face mask as well. Restaurant: Had a nice sitting area, and was spotless. Went into this place for the first time and it was disappointing. The food was not great and there was an awful smell of rotten eggs or sewage in the lobby. Do not go here. 9/24/21 My sister & I had lunch together as we periodically do. I've got mixed feelings about this Wayback, and not in a good way. On the one hand, the service was very good. I had the Cheeeesy burger, large tater tots, a soft drink, and a milk shake. Sis had the Rodeo Burger, Fries and a soft drink. The total? $42+ dollars! Ridiculous for what amounts to a half step above McDonalds. The good: my burger was very good, if outlandishly expensive. Also, my sister's Rodeo burger was so inedible that the manager apologized profusely , & prepared a plain cheeseburger at no additional charge (as if the $42.00 wasn't enough). This is one of the better fast food joints in my surrounding area. Located in a plaza, unless you're specifically looking for this place, you may miss it. The place has an array of burgers to choose from, as well as chicken options and hot dogs. I chose the chipotle burger with the house made chips. You can opt for French fries or onion rings if the chips are not your thing. Overall, my burger had great flavor and was nice and juicy. I had been twice before in Hamden going a second time only because I believe a restaurant deserves a second chance ( and you can't eat everything in a menu the first time). It wasn't very good there and it want any better here. The service was terrible too. With something wrong with everything I ordered the attitude of the workers was quite negative. With what you pay for the onion rings, I would expect a decent sized portion. You'll see from the posted picture that I got one ring for each dollar...a bit steep. Our family loves Wayback Burgers. Fresh, tasty, with all sorts of extras. My wife and son love the milk shakes. I get the double cheese burger with grilled mushrooms and onions. Tonight my mom and daughter stopped by the Cheshire store. My daughter had the double rodeo burger with cheese and onion rings. She works nearby the Cheshire Wayback. She often gets the Caesar salad with grilled chicken, but was craving a juicy burger tonight. My mom had a plain hamburger - she likes it the old fashioned way. They both really loved the meal. This is our third and likely last time trying this place. The food is ok, with fair shakes that were watery on this visit with least favorite the burgers that were dripping in grease. Worse is the wait, which borders on ridiculous for fast food that I understand is made to order, but is still crazy long. Positive is the staff who are friendly even with the hostile crowd we observed today complaining about the wait. A very disappointing experience at the Cheshire location. Before making our milkshakes, the woman went from the grill to pulling our onion rings out of the drawer with her bare hands then went right to making our milkshakes. Without washing her hands, she put her fingers into the metal containers to carry all five to the counter. We watched her make them, which was really displeasing and unappetizing. I probably should've stopped things there, but I didn't want to make a scene or cause a problem. We had five different flavors and to be honest, they all tasted the same. We asked if they made the coffee one wrong because it didn't have any coffee flavor. She said you have to order 'extra' coffee flavoring for it to taste like coffee. Which doesn't make sense...I ordered coffee. She made another, but it tasted the same. I hate to complain, but after spending $30 on milkshakes I really expected and hoped for a better experience and product. At the very least, I wouldn't have such a generic product that looked NOTHING like what was advertised being made in front of the customers in an unsanitary manner and on equipment that looked dusty. read more

Not he best experience today at Wayback in Cheshire. In the past I've used the app and had issues, not realizing they got an order, condiments prices at $30 in error. I decided to try again today. My Son needed me to get him lunch for 11:30 at band and had a limited time to eat so I thought the app would be helpful. I go to pick it up and I'm told it would be ready soon. Come to find out the grill was broken and would not turn on. I had to leave so my Son could eat. They could not figure out how to credit my account so they wrote a credit on market on my receipt in marker. I ran across the street to McDonalds and unfortunately my Son ended up with 12 min to eat. It's not grass fed cows that graze at Hilton fields, get a mud bath and manicure between milkings. This is real deal American born and raised beef packed full of all the grade d feed and antibiotics the cows can handle, lol, if you are looking for grade A prime ground beef burgers L.A. Is about 2,500 miles west of here, if you are looking for quiet, private dining experience obviously avoid the night when the lot is filled with muscle cars. The food was horrible, the employees were rude and one of them dropped food on the floor and picked it up and put it back. This last time I not only received the wrong sauce, but also received FOOD POISONING from the undercooked burger. 2 out of the 3 of us received food poisoning from our meals and all we ordered were cheese burgers and fries. I am ranking this review based on Location more than franchise. The people behind the counter were very friendly and the service was fast. The tables weren't the cleanest, but way better than another Wayback location that I have visited. The parking lot is huge and had no issue finding a spot. The atmosphere definitely has that 50's style burger joint appeal. I will definitely return to this location for these reasons all by them-self. As far as the franchise, this place still suffers the same issues. The shakes are too small for their price and the taste of the burger meat is not that good (in my opinion). I do not hold this against the place because it is my personal opinion. I hear this is one of the best franchises and the location is so high quality, I will be coming back to try their chicken, fries, and other sides. Horrible service!! My husband ordered a milkshake with his burger. We were the only ones in the place. As we waited for our order 4 other groups came in (total of 9) people. Our burgers were ready. Went up to the counter four times to ask where the shake was. We were done eating and the server finally brought the milkshake. Oh and a fellow came in, picked up his order which included a shake.
