Food: LOOOOOVED and I mean LOOOOVED their #2 bbq pork banh mi. The highlight was the perfectly toasted bread for sure! Super soft with the perfect crunch. Good ratio of meat to veggie and there's options to add extra veggie/meat if you'd like at a cost. I will say the portion size runs slightly smaller but it was perfect for me! Meat was very tender #20 bbq pork with egg roll: huge portions, though a good amount of it was noodle, tender and flavorful meat. The highlight is definitely the fried egg roll! I'm usually not a fan of egg rolls because I don't love things that're super fried but somehow the egg rolls were perfectly fried without being too overwhelming, and the stuffing had some nice spice flavor. Paired well with meat and noodles! Coffee: I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I had a few sips of their Vietnamese coffee and it was yummy! Not too sweet, not too strong. Service: extremely efficient especially with everything made to order. Our banh mi was out in less than three minutes! #20 took a bit longer but that's because they make everything to order. Still less than 10 minutes for it to cook. Seems to be a small mom and pop shop. Person taking our order Joseph was super sweet! Offered for us to call and order next time to go and didn't rush for us to pay at all. Keep in mind it's cash preferred but they have Venmo and zelle too. No credit cards accepted here. Indoor seating is very limited, but there's a small park just a block away with picnic tables. I ordered the combination pork, the BBQ pork banh mi, and a Vietnamese iced coffee. Both sandwiches were absolutely solid, but the grilled pork was standout for me! As for the coffee, I'd probably pass on it next time. Been a while since we last visited Banhwich. Thought we heard there was a change in ownership. In any case, hubs was craving a banh mi as usual so we decided to drop by on a Sunday at around 11am. It was pretty busy. Placed our order for a couple of combinations and a pate, as well as the rice noodles (#23). Order took about 20 minutes to be ready. Light, crispy bread. The banh mi were reasonably priced, but contained more vegetables than meat. Would've liked more pate in the pate banh mi so more of that flavor came through vs the vegetables. Came in today for an easy lunch to take to the beach... Pros- very friendly service. Reasonably priced (8.95 per sandwich), they cut a slit on the container for the egg rolls, so they don't become too soggy! Relatively fast service. And while it's cash only, also offer the option to use Venmo or Zelle, which I appreciated! And if you don't have time for the beach, there's a small park nearby where you can enjoy your food (McCoppin Square, next to the library). Cons- it's on a busy street, so parking maybe hard. Inside you''ll find a table or two to eat there, but this is definitely more of a grab 'n go kind of place. Verdict: For the price, the Bahn Mis here are tough to beat! I've been in the area for 10+ years and noticed that the shop remodeled recently. I went in and got the grilled pork bahn mi and was NOT disappointed. The bread was super fluffy and soft on the inside and the outside had a hardy CRUNCH. Delicious. I usually don't get jalapenos on my bahn mi, but for some reason I prefer it at this location. Solid mom and pop banh mi stop in Sunset. Came around 4pm and they were already sold out of a ton of offerings. They accept venmo which is convenient. We wanted the pork banh mi but they ran out, so we got the teriyaki chicken instead. While not super traditional, the banh mi was still delicious! It was served on a bread that's different from the usual french baguette, but I liked this bread regardless.
