Seriously, step back into the 50's when you go into Wendell's. You really only need to know 2 things. !. They don't take credit/debit cards. Seriously? If I had known that I would have never walked in. They have an "atm" in the bar, just in case you want to give them an extra $5. I was lucky enough I make sure I have some cash on hand, but seriously get with the millennia. 2. They are a crazy rip off. I ordered wings, onion rings, 1 beer and diet coke. Obviously the Diet Coke is not free refills, just like the 1950's. My meal came to $29.25. That is just totally absurd. Now if you are a drinker and aren't going to order soda, you might not care about that. But don't bother bringing non drinkers. Now the wings themselves are pretty good. The reason I went. I'd still choose buffalo wild wings over them because of their variety and the fact they realize what millennia we are in. The onion rings were real beer battered, if just a little thin and the order was on the skimpy side. This is really too bad, because I literally live within walking distance of this place. No idea how the place is still in business. They nickel and dime you to death, which I was afraid of just looking at the menu, but $29 for what I ordered is what I would expect in a 5 star super expensive trendy bar, not a local hole in the wall pub. I've gotten good 3 course meals for less than that. Obviously I am never going back. Oh well, live and learn. Wendels is still the best, but.... I agree with several other comments that the wings have gotten even smaller and overcooked, which is one of the reasons we don't go as often as we used to. Even the basket of fries has gotten smaller which is a real shame. A few things I have learned going there: Eat a salad before hand, this will help you out A LOT then next day and also put some food in your stomach while you wait at the restaurant. Try to sit at the bar, it's more fun and you can get drinks faster. If you order some of the spicier wings, also get some sissy sassy boneless wings. The soft buttery contrast to wicked hot wings is amazing. Dip your fries in the hot sauce (management, please bring back the bigger baskets of fries). Try a Wendel burger. Check out Sporty's down the road afterwards; possibly even more of a dive bar with bands, a pool table, a mix of different ages - possibly where people go if they have been shut off at Wendels (which is quite difficult). read more

I will never go here again. Wings were amazing BUT they charge you for everything, even .30 to take it Togo. They charge you for the ranch that goes with your wings, they wait till you're mouth is on fire and then charge you to refill your drink. Used to love this place. So I was going to get a wendell's gift certificate for someone for Christmas . I live in Norwell now so I don't go out of my way for it . Called last night to ask if they were open today (Christmas eve). When I called I was greeted with "WENDELLS" wicked loud and so I asked hi just wondering if you're open tomorrow ... "YUP!" Then I asked if they do gift certificates and he says "YUP!" Well guess what it's 4 o clock and the door is locked, drove over an hour in traffic for no reason, and my gift is ruined . What were they open 2 hours?! It would have helped if he didn't hang up before I could ask what time they were "open". Every time I used to go there the service was painfully slow I'm sorry... This was the worst service i have ever experienced with Kathy the bartender..not only did i need to ask her to clear our plates after 30mins..but she hands us our check. We were going to continue to have more than 1 beer so instead of giving Kathy the bartender a bigger tip on our $37 tab.. we went somewhere else and spent our money where we were treated better. Nor did she use her manners - I got better treatment at the McDonald's drive thru. Went there to pick up buff garlic wings never have been before won't b back again !! First off they weren't what I asked for there was no taste of buff they were really quite awful ! Hands down, the best buffalo wings I've ever had. I live 30 minutes away, and my friends and I make a special trip to Wendell's on a regular basis just for the wings - they're that good! I do agree with the complaints posted by several other people regarding price - Wendell's wings are not cheap. I usually get two orders of wings and a couple of beers (by no means an over-the-top feast) and the bill comes out north of $20.00 As far as pub food goes, this is no bargain. Also, just FYI, the service and ambiance leave a LOT to be desired. I've been to Anchor Bar in Buffalo (the origin and Shangri-La of buffalo wings) and I actually prefer Wendell's! Staff was friendly enough and the atmosphere was homey. I ordered wings to go as I had read many good things about them after moving to the neighborhood in 2010. The wings were really overcooked and I was very disappointed at the miserly portions. I could live with 10 pieces per order IF the wings were bigger. These looked like pigeon wings and were overcooked to boot. I am highly disappointed after reading so many good reviews. I hate to be a negative Nancy but I can't recommend Wendell's if your primary goal noshing on wings to dream about. Crap Service! Took 40mins to get wings, these are considered appetizers at restaurants! The waiter was awful, The soda ran out of syrup and should be quick a fix... it took 30mins before the waiter came back to tell us they couldnt change the syrup and asked for another choice....... The wings came 40-50mins after we placed the order we where told it would be 1lb of wings it was not, all the wings where TINY and mostly bone, some of the worse wings Ive ever seen. I mean what would it cost to have a side of celery like 3 small pieces to help use 1.50$ Blue cheese you have to buy on the side..... The wait was too long (50 min) for some terrible food. The wings smelled like they had been cooked in old/burnt oil, and it was inedible. When we tasted the wings and made a complaint the waitress said that it was what we ordered, and she wouldn't refund us money, or allow us to order another food item off the menu in exchange for the wings!! Went here at the suggestion of a friend. They're honest about their food ticket times, they are slow, but worth it. They were moderately busy and I felt by the time I ordered my "extra spicy" wings, I was easily 5th in line at the fryolator. I actually forgot to ask for extra crispy, but no matter, the wings were perfectly cooked. My only issue was I didn't like how tiny the wings were. The sauce was tasty, but at first not very spicy. Stood at the door for 10 minutes with everyone in the restaurant staring at you awkwardly while we were staring at a empty booth waiting for it to be cleared. Best place to get chicken wings, I have been going here for years. This is one of the few places I have found that don't bread the wings. For people who like spicy food, the wings flavor selection is top notch. There is only one cook, one grill, and two fryolators so the wait can get long if it is crowded but it is 100% worth it everytime. The place is always packed. I always laugh at the type of people this place attracts...NORMAL people. It's got to be the biggest dump with the least amount of overhead in all of Massachusetts, but normal folk such as myself head there in droves! You can't even watch a game in here because there's one tv at the bar and up until last year, they had 13 inch black and white tv in the dining area which appeared to need rabbit ears to work. At around this time as well they FINALLY moved from giving you 100 ketchup packets to actually putting bottles of ketchup on the table. Oh and I hope you're not expecting Heinz because this is the generic brand ketchup. Are you catching my drift here? DIVE. Anyways, I love Wendell's. The wings are fantastic and probably the hottest I've had. The crinkle cut fries are awesome as are the onion rings. The prices aren't cheap though. You pay I think about $8 for a dozen wings and fries AND blue cheese are extra. So you're talking $13 when all is said and done or $15 if you get onion rings. The service here is also pretty bad. There tends to be two of the same waitresses everytime I go....one is super nice and one is super cranky and I'm pretty sure would punch you in the face if you so much as asked for a lemon in your diet coke. Again, part of the charm? There's a dart board on the wall which always seems to attract the same biker-esque crew playing it. There's no waiting area. It's literally first come, first serve, fight your way to the first open table and hope you don't loose a finger in the process. To begin, the water provided had a slight yellow tint that wouldn't be found in most 3rd world countries. If a waitress with an IQ rivaling a monogloid and an insufferable waiting time for average wings are what you desire, this is the place for you. The only redeeming aspect of the entire experience was amazing hot sauce. Over an hour and fifteen minutes to get wings. The wings were probably the worst buffalo wings I have ever had and I have had BAD chicken wings. I ordered a water as did my friend for his child. The waitress forgot to bring the child's water so she grabbed a glass and poured half my glass of water into the other glass for the child without even asking. As hungry as we were we all left the majority of our wings on the table, I ate three and that's two more than the average person at our table. Not worth it. First and foremost , it is a complete dive bar. Horrible lighting, most likely to hide how dirty and grungy the place actually is. If you have to use the bathroom , I'd advise against it. You will feel dirtier after using it. I can't speak for all the wait staff, but our bartender, who wasn't particularly busy mid day, was very non attentive. I witnessed a simple customer complaint being handled in a complete inappropriate manner( bartender being extremely rude)! Then witnessed this bartender speaking to random patrons rudely about this customer after there departure so everyone could hear. We finally went and checked this place out after talking about it for awhile. It was a Monday afternoon around 3 PM, only a few cars in the parking lot. We walked inside and were instantly struck by how odd shaped it was- big open room out front, little bar in the back. The front room was empty so we went to the bar- there were 3 somewhat "local" looking folks hanging out at the bar. Bartender/waitress was friendly, but I got the impression that she could get irritated very quickly. We got some draft beers and went through the menu. I like spicy, she doesn't, so she went with the sissy wings (butter and garlic) and I went with extra spicy. We also ordered fries. Wings took a good 20-25 minutes to come out and were served in wooden bowls- one on top of the other. The cook puts the wings and sauce in the first bowl, covers it with the second bowl, shakes them, and that's how they are served. The wings were smaller than I thought they would be, but we each had 12 which made for an acceptable portion. Sissy sauce was very buttery- she had to shake off each wing to get the butter off, but the taste was ok. Extra spicy was pretty good- I can tolerate more heat than most people, so I found them to be acceptable but truth be told I probably should have gone for Suicide. Very messy but she left us plenty of napkins and wet-naps. Fries were quite good, used them to scoop up the rest of the sauce. Bathroom looked like it was installed in 1972 and never updated since! Cash only, and for a total of 4 beers, 2 orders of wings and 1 order of fries the total (with tip) came to around $45. Not cheap, but tolerable. Overall it was enjoyable, but I'd prefer maybe 8 bigger wings instead of 12 small ones, but no question the taste was there! read more

You'll get no argument here on the bad service that you'll experience at Wendell's. I went to Wheaton College (right down the road) and was consistently frustrated by the unfriendly waitstaff and the amount of time it took to get my wings. However, I learned that with proper timing, some patience and good company, Wendell's really hits the spot. Get there about an hour before you're going to be really hungry and order some beer (which is definitely overpriced) and 3.5 wings as soon as you sit down (go milder if you don't like things spicy). I graduated 3 1/2 years ago and still make the hour drive from my Dad's place in RI every time I come to visit. This place has hands down, the best wings I've ever tasted. Period. Don't ask about anything else on the menu, there's no need for anything else.
