I came here for the Memorial Day ceremony. I had never been to this park before and didn't know it…read morehad memorial plaques for people in our city who died in various wars. The ceremony included reading each of their names out loud and placing a rose on the plaque that matched the war they died in. WWII had the most roses and deaths. They had one of the fire trucks lift up a huge American flag next to the regular sized flags of the branches of our military which surround a pilar with a live flame. There was also a live band, singers, and flybys by planes in formation. It was a very solemn and respectful ceremony to honor those who died on duty. After the ceremony, I stayed at the park for a bit longer laying a towel on the grass under a tree. I don't know if it was just the spot I picked, but even though it was really grassy, underneath it was really muddy, like when I finally got up my towel was soaked through and so was my back. Then I got lost trying to find where I parked because the park is bigger than it looks and has 3 parking lots. I thought there was only 1, so I didn't pay that much attention when I walked towards the ceremony. When I tried getting back to my car I honestly thought it might have been towed. Now I know there's a parking lot by the building that leads to the swimming pool, another next to the swimming pool itself so you can actually see the water, and the last one is next to the tennis courts and baseball field. This doesn't include the parking spots all around the perimeter of the park. The park is clean, has plenty of playgrounds for children, tables and benches to eat at, and a public restroom. It's not the quietest of parks, though, since there are so many children and it's next to a busy intersection, like during the ceremony a trash truck and a random car honked their horns in support of the ceremony. Otherwise, it really is a nice park with plenty of amenities.

With all the busy world you need a Mother Nature sense of being just like going to the beach to reenergize yourself to release negative energy and place positive energy by walking on the grass for 15 minutes does the trick you need to take time to do that for yourself. Happy new year kindness forward. This is great for your little one i highly recommend this park.

There are two picnic areas to choose from: Picnic area #1 is roofed while Picnic area #2 is under the trees. What do people love about this place? There are two playgrounds here: one is for kids aged 2-5 while the bigger one is for children aged 5-12. There is also a childcare facility and restroom which is very accessible wherever side of the park you may be. There is also tons of street parking. For the sports buff, there is a tennis court, basketball court, and a football field with stadium. The park could get really busy any moment of the day so if you're planning a party, come early. A group of 20 or less no permit but must come early to secure spot. There are also lots of cool places to visit nearby. It is right next to Valhalla cemetery where the Portal of Wings is located. It is also beside the Armory where army tanks, jeeps and trucks are parked. There is also a shrine dedicated to Larry Maxam, a Burbank hero who served during the Vietnam war. The only downside of this place is being too close to the airport. It is actually along the path of airplanes taking off. Kids do really get excited in the sight of jumbo airplanes right above your head but it could get really loud when it passes by.

My roommate's sister who also recently got a dog introduced my roommate and I to Joaquin Miller Park https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=NLA5cZzuSzKIgM64HtKhPQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw which was barely a ten-minute walk from her place. As another alternative place to play for our furry family member, this park was associated and connected to the Joaquin Miller Elementary School as part of the Burbank Unified School District. Will this new-found park be a nice lazy getaway for both me and the pooch!? PURCHASE Sorry... nothing to buy here. But maybe a lonely street vendor made an appearance from time to time? SERVICE With the exception of the Burbank Parks & Recreation Dept. of which probably serviced the area, it was non-existent; it's a park for goodness sake! PARKING (FREE) No private lot of their own, there was plenty of free parking on all surrounding residential streets. However, make sure to read all the posted signs for exclusions such as street cleaning, etc. - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Located in a very safe and family-oriented residential part of Burbank north of the main drag of Glenoaks St., the peace and serenity instantly engulfed you. With a large grass field https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=XNcNJXBlESYHDVk2ew0K-w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, a very cool jungle gym area https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=L-LcvT2AxgNz9j2pVhBQhw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw (heck... adults can play here, too! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ynyY9g6bpQAf6heDPLLHMg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw), basketball courts https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=O7s8OrnKHin0KHGDDdINow&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, trees for shade https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=vAEV_VyDtoPdLcTsiE5dvw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, and a restroom facility https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=06BI513K44inojGl9AwnxA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, this park generally had the amenities you'd expect. However, I didn't happen to see any grills, an ample amount of benches https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=aT2W_oWN-jNk6utShNn4Ig&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, a running track (although I believed there was one but gated off), and drinking fountains. In addition, you had some of the usual restrictions and ordinances https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=3-VPYDxvBlWmNk350pPkMA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw that needed to be adhered to. Obviously, there was plenty of natural lighting but no evening electric illumination nor was there any music unless someone brought their own. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Joaquin Miller Park was a chill find and was happy to know of another place to casually hang out in the great outdoors with myself, others, or a pet. Because this park is tied to the elementary school next door, I felt the dynamic and usable hours may change when school is back in session such as the park possibly being used for recess or lunch time. Regardless, this was a simple place that the entire neighborhood should be proud and take care of. Sure, it was missing some standard park elements (no tennis courts, too), but it definitely was a nice place to find some shade underneath a tree, relax, and maybe read a book. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, there was no need for acceptance of my credit card of choice or any funds for that matter... AMEX! 4.0 STARS
