Avoid this place if you don't want to get sick and be insulted all in one meal! My wife and I went to this place after the horse races, heard from friends this was a great place by Torrey pines beach. They have a small parking lot behind the building, if you can't park there parking will be a bit of a struggle. The inside environment is casual and nice but it was rather warm inside. We started out with some appetizers, her the clam chowder and I had the goat cheese style bruschetta. Both very delicious. For dinner she ordered the crusted chicken which was great, and I ordered the Veal Ossobuco ravioli. This is when the problems started.... My food tasted off and I casually mentioned it to the waiter who told me I'm sure it's nothing maybe your just aren't used to the taste. My wife tried it and mentioned same issue. You only get about 5 raviolis and a ton of mushrooms btw. After a few raviolis my stomach turned sour and I gave up on the dish. One of the servers came by and said I didn't look happy, I told him about the dish tasting funny and he said he'd go talk to our main server. Never saw him again... They bring out of the bill and we pay and my wife tells me she doesn't feel good. I said strange I don't either. Sure enough I jump up run to the bathroom and throw up dinner. I come back and tell my wife and sure enough she does the same. I walked up to our server and said hey we just sick and I'm pretty sure it was the veal ravioli I mentioned. Can you check it out. Make sure no one got sick. He pulls out our bill goes down the line and says can't be chowder cause that's delicious, can't be goat cheese, can't be crusted chicken and it can't be the ravioli. I go well it was probably ravioli cause that's only thing we both ate and we both threw it up. He then gets snappy and goes did you eat lunch? (Mind you it's 6:30 by this time). I said yeah hours ago. He asks it again a few more times. He goes it's probably that, and walks away. I managed to flag someone else down saying I hope no one else gets sick and this new guy said he'd ask the kitchen and he disappeared. We gave up and left. Drove to get pepto and hope we didn't throw up anymore. This place deserves one star and a warning to everyone. Avoid it cause you will get sick and the staff won't believe you!! read more

We had such an amazing dinner here. The view is beautiful, the patio is roomy and the service was excellent. We found so many things on the menu that we wanted to try and what we ordered was so good that we will definitely be back. Best on the menu: The crab cake. We were so hungry I didn't get a picture but it was the perfect mix of crispy fried exterior with soft, flavorful crab inside. We also had the chipotle tequila pasta with shrimp, the rustic tuscan salad and baked goat cheese. It was all fresh and flavorful. (Though, I had wished the goat cheese entree was plated differently. The crisps were already sitting in the pesto, making the bottoms soggy. Yummy but messy.) The beer and wine list were a lot of fun. We can't wait to come back and try more, including mixed drinks from the full bar. Service was quick and our server was very upbeat! And the view of Los Pensaquitos Lagoon was lovely at sunset. Really lovely neighborhood bistro. The dinner menu is varied, ranging from healthy salads to delicious seafood pastas. The chilled blue crab salad was delicious and very filling! Great wine selection, beautiful scenic views and friendly staff. I also enjoyed the tequila shrimp fettuccini Which was full of flavor and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Nice to see this place so busy on a Saturday night. But the acoustics are not helpful when trying ti hear people at your table. Nice choice of various dishes, but unfortunately the two we chose were just so-so. Meatloaf was mushy and not too exciting. The Del Mar Crab dish was a true disappointment. A little crab was hidden in raviolis and drowned in unidentifiable sauce. Not worth over 20.00 as most entres were priced. Waiter was nice but no other staff friendliness. There are too many new restaurants to go back to this one. Oh well. Lighting was good and we weren't rushed out while eating and talking. read more

Was looking a brunch close not too far from home. This is on Carmel Valley at the end of the 56 West almost to Torrey Pines. Tip 1: There is parking behind the restaurant so no need to fight for street parking necessarily. I think if you're planning on having a beach day this would a nice spot to have breakfast at then start you beach day at Torrey Pines State Beach. I got the wet breakfast burrito, it comes with shredded potato, egg, bell peppers, onions, cheese, and bacon inside. There is a ranchero sauce that is more like salsa (which I liked) and a heaping helping of sour cream on top. They are willing to accommodate the ranchero and sour cream on the side so don't feel odd about asking. The sides are either hash browns or fruit, I would recommend getting the fruit because there are hash browns in the burrito already. We also ordered the blueberry pancakes. They come in a 3 stack (which is considered a full I believe). It also comes with softened butter which is pretty great because who wants super cold butter to rip up their pancakes. They have single serve sealed syrup for you to use which is nice and I am sure if you needed more they would oblige. The waiter had made a few minor mistakes with us but he was very kind and waived the cost of our tea and coke without us even asking! So they have excellent service though at times it was bit slow. read more

They were weird about splitting checks (even though they weren't busy when we were there) and a little slow. Still, I would come back. This is a very cute and quaint venue, nice decor in Del Mar near Torrey Pines. We stopped in on a Friday evening before 7pm, place was full but they were able to seat us right away. The menu reads really well, strong cocktail and wine offerings, and really good looking food selections. We each got a cocktail, they were pretty good, bar seemed rushed and the drinks tasted as such. The food was disappointing the goat cheese appetizer was a mass of pesto and oil with a teaspoon of goat cheese and six tiny pieces of toasted white dinner roll, that disappeared in a second leaving us with a mass of pesto-ish oilyness and a desperate need for more "crostini" to which we got soft bread 15 minutes later, unfortunate. We had high hopes for dinner as I love love Saltimbocca and when I saw they had a Chicken Saltimbocca in the menu I was excited. My wife opted for a burger. She gave her buger a 6 out of 10, said it was average. My meal was no bueno. The chicken filet wasn't prepared well, there was a tiny piece of prosciutto under a massive quantity of cheese, almost like chicken parm. The mashed potatoes and vegetables saved my appetite, disappointing though overall. I had high hopes, as we live in the area and had always wanted to try this place and make it a regular stop but I think this keeps it on the list to keep passing. (Third star is really for location and ambiance, and service was quite efficient and sincere). read more

Came here for dinner with my parents. It was my first time here but decided because I liked the menu options. The parking was a little difficult. As we walked in we were greeted by the hostess who was really nice. Got seated right away. We started with appetizers, the dinner was what we were waiting for. We ordered the lamb shank, short ribs, and duck confit. The dinner was really great. The best part of the night was our server. He was so attentive and kind. I wasn't a fan of the manager, at least I think he was the manager but he was greeting all the tables around us and the only time he came to our table was to give us fresh pepper. The food was decidedly mediocre . We ordered the "chef's special". It was Mahi Mahi with crab. The mahi Mahi was overdone and rubbery and the asparagus was also overdone--literally charred. The wine was overpriced. Beer selection was good. Service and ambience was average --not consistent with a $45 entree. I was prepared to pay with Synergy cards but the restaurant had a rule of only accepting 4 cards or $200. We had a party of five--not in the happy hour area. I don't see any limit on the number of Synergy cards used under these circumstances on the Synergy site. There are many restaurants in the area offering much better food and value. Very cool little bar/kitchen on the outskirts of Del Mar with a big open patio seating area and bar. Since I was supposed to be meeting a friend, I sat at the bar. Bartender "Nate" mixed up a delicious marg with a Tajín rim to go along with his crab cake recommendation and they both hit the spot. The crabcake was served on a bed of arugula with a pickled slaw cabbage, so it was very light and delicious and you could really taste the lumps of crab meat in it. It was not heavy at all and nothing like any crabcake I've ever had before! Highly recommend checking this off-the-beaten path place out. read more

Nice place not far from the beach. We had brunch here on a Saturday morning, it was pretty packed around 11am. The brunch menu is very long, probably you can get whatever you want at this place. I had a Brie salad and my husband ordered tacos. He likes his food. For me, the salad is nice but the dressing is away toooooo sweet. The waitress is very kind to get another unsweetened dressing for me which is perfect. I definitely think the good service makes this place a 5 star. read more

I had the best Lox Benedict ever! I kept fantasizing about it and dragged my husband and my dog here over the Memorial Day weekend. My husband liked his breakfast burrito very much. I enjoyed Lox Benedict all over again. Good bottomless mimosas, amazing hash browns. Friendly staff and a very pleasant atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to coming here for dinner. So I was initially bummed when I found out Iris was gone and that this establishment had new management. I was sad, mad, confused lol.. but sometimes you just gotta move on! My coworkers and I wanted to give West End a chance and so we came here for happy hour on Friday. The decor had been totally updated and it's really swanky! The menu looks pretty much the same which is great but some items were missing or there are new ones.. I'm sad they got rid of the chicken liver pate... Why?! Lol.. the quality of the food was still really good, but they're happy hour menu was limited compared to Iris. We ordered the flat beads and both were really good- calamari was still bomb, and the goat cheese pesto was still amazing. Still a good experience, quality is still there for sure! read more

I didn't realize this place had been open for over four months after replacing Iris. They have a small lot in the back of the building that can hold about 15 vehicles. The better idea, at least during peak meal hours, is to park along Carmel Valley Rd and then walk over to the restaurant. The inside dining room is not very large, but they also have an enclosed outdoor patio that can seat just as many customers. I grabbed a seat at the bar and then ordered an appetizer, the Pan Fried Duck Pot Stickers ($12), and an entrée, the Savory Lamb Meatloaf ($24). The pot stickers came as seven large dumplings stuffed with ginger, garlic, napa cabbage, leeks and shiitake mushrooms. A soy, sweet chili, lemongrass dipping sauce came with the appetizer. My only critique was that I wish the dumplings were fried a bit crispier. As for the meatloaf, the lamb was loosely mixed with Mediterranean spices, garlic, and feta cheese topped with a charred tomato ketchup. Mashed potatoes and sautéed mixed seasonal vegetables also came with this plate. I don't think I have ever eaten lamb in the form of a meatloaf so this was a first for me. I didn't taste a strong flavor of lamb though which I wish was more prominent in this dish. The service from the bartender was solid while the speed of the food arriving from the kitchen was amazing. On an weekend evening when they were pretty busy, the chefs did a terrific job of making the items and getting them out rapidly for the servers to bring to the tables. read more

I just noticed he took it upon himself to add a $5 tip on my credit card. Luckily i had my copy of the bill. This is credit card fraud. Disputed with my credit card company.
