This place is like home away from home. This is my second stint working in the Randolph area, this time is 4 months and counting! West End Grill is my go to place, the food is amazing, the servers and bartenders are great!!! My favorite dish is the Statler chicken (the Parmesan Risotto is to die for!). I have pretty much tried just about everything on the menu and have not found anything to be even close to average. This place has a great local following I see a bunch of the same people often. Put our names in and were told by hostess 30 minutes, gave her our phone number and hung out outside. 50 minutes pass by and no call so we go back in and the other hostess tells us she crossed our name off the list after calling us. Excellent place. If you haven't been here, go, give it a try. You won't be disappointed! After living in the area for 5 years we decided to try the West End Grill. Was tired of the usual spots and was happy we did. Went for lunch to check it out first and ate at the giant bar. Friendly staff and delicious food and 20 oz Guinness, warm or cold. Now who asks that these days. Then went to dinner tonight for a birthday and again didn't disappoint. I had the fish and chips, friends had the Statler Chicken and also a Linguini and white clam sauce. All were more than ample dishes and all had been totally consumed. Giving this place 3 stars because i actually like the food here. The thai chili wings are amazing. The drinks are great also. Whats not great; is the fact that the best desert item got removed from their menu recently. My friends come here specifically for the bread pudding. Its one of the best in the city. It disappoints me to hear that it was replaced with a reece's pie. Its not special at all. The bread pudding was hands down the best desert on the menu, and i ordered them all so i know. At this point, im pleading to bring it back or at least share the darn recipe ! I also wanted to mention the bartenders are the best. So attentive and so welcoming. Not bad! We had the braised short rib for the entree and the truffle fries for the appetizer. We also ordered their white sangria. The wife and I came here for a date night and we were pleased. The space was dark and romantic, but not too stuffy with a full bar and tvs all around, the ambience was perfect for what we were going for. The truffle fries were ok. Some were soggy and some were crispy. We were both pretty disappointed with the fries. The white sangria and braised short ribs however was great! The sangria was smooth and fruity, and there wasn't a single dry bite in the braised short rib. Pairing that with the mash potato and spinach was perfect with texture and taste. We ended the meal with their creme brûlée, and it was alright. The sugar crust on top was perfect, but the custard at the bottom was too cold. This is my first time here. My martini was perfect, but when I ordered food, the tuna was the tiniest bit of fish I've ever seen in my life and more of a pile of fried things - whatever it was on the plate for a total of $13.90. So not worth the price - The other food that people ordered around me seemed to be a bit more substantial. But those are things that I cannot order, as I have a allergy to dairy. We have been here 3 or 4 times now and it's been great. We have sat at the bar and the high tops with friends in the bar area. There is plenty of seating with a huge bar and a lot of bar side tables. The servers and bartenders are super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We have tried the stuffed Cod dish (delicious) Grilled Shrimp Caesar Salad (just perfect) Cheeseburger (cooked to perfection) and their bar pizza (which ranked VERY high on my bar pizza scale! a must try and ask for crispy!) Good selection of specialty drinks on their menu, draft beers and wine selection to choose from. I highly suggest stopping in for a cocktail and a bite to eat before a movie or while you are in the area. I don't think you will be disappointed. Suggestion .... add a side salad or vegetables as an alternative to french fries/starch to meals/burgers/sandwiches without being charged full price for a salad or an additional side. This will keep the ladies coming back and suggesting it as a dining option (for the coleslaw is just not cutting it as a healthy alternative and it's far too spicy for most to enjoy) Also I think lettuce wraps would do very well on the menu or as an occasional special. :) Keep up the great service and good food! nice to see the place doing so well read more

Came here for a quick lunch before hitting the road. My husband and I got the clam chowder, French onion soup, spinach and artichoke dip, and the Cuban sandwich. Soups and appetizer weren't that great. I'd order the sandwich again, it was pretty good. But the food was really nothing to write home about. The reason for the 4 stars is because of the service! I work in a restaurant and customer service is literally the most important thing in my eyes. We sat at the bar and Dave was our bartender/server. He was personable, in a great mood, and was able to attend to all his bar patrons equally. We were in a bit of a rush and he made sure to get us everuthing we needed in a timely manner while still making light conversation and jokes. We were very hopeful with this restaurant after reading some of the reviews. I understand that times are hard, short staffed etc, we get it. We too are in the industry. And I don't know if it has something to do with the fact that we can only grab a bite out on a Monday or Tuesday, but it seems we have never had a good meal, and barely receive good service. Anyway we stopped at the west end at noon on a Tuesday. The place is big, and promising. It wasn't very busy but I thought decent for a Tuesday afternoon. The menu, traditional American foods. We sat for awhile before being able to order. Which was fine, it seemed there was only two servers. Again being in the business we have patience and understanding. Ordered fish tacos, and chicken parm panini w fries. Fish smelled bad which was unfortunate because the tacos looked good. Took two bites and realized they weren't good. Fries were cooked in old oil, they were brown and burnt taking. Chicken parm wasn't anything to rave about. Both plates were barely touched, when the server came to check she never asked how our food was or wondered why we didn't want to bring any home. Overall disappointing. I never leave bad reviews but we're at a point now that we no longer want to waste money going out, we try to give places business and support, try to promote local restaurants, tip really well even when not satisfied (because I am a server and my husband is a sous chef). Hoping things will start to get better for the restaurant industry. There's plenty of patrons wanting to go out. Now we just need to find people who want to work and take pride in their work. Decided to go here because it was one of the only options in the area. Poor choice because the food had little to no flavor. The buffalo chicken dip was soupy with little chicken and the tortilla chips had zero salt giving them no flavor. We then ordered a NY strip - medium rare and a feta and spinach salad with steak tips also medium rare. The steak tasted like burnt smoke and was cooked to more of a medium well temperature. The salad had way too much feta cheese and no onions on top as the menu stated. The waitress was in a rush and didn't even ask us if we wanted to wrap food when we barely ate half of our meals. We wouldn't have taken it home but it was clear she didn't have time to box up food as she bolted quickly after we paid. Wouldn't recommend and would never go back! read more

Mediocre at best, i liked West End Grill more when it was Ricks bar, but the menu seem's uncharged, standard pub grub. Out of all the things i've tried i'd say the bar pizza is pretty darn good, followed closely by the steak and cheese, however, on a recent visit on a Saturday night i was in the dining room and was told the kitchen wouldn't make a steak and cheese as it was off a different menu? Very disappointing.... Service was also painfully slow also, the place was not that full, in fact there were several empty tables so i'm not sure what the problem was, it took me at least 15 minutes to get a drink from our waiter. When the food came out it was ok, chicken marsala was plentiful, cheese burger looked a little over cooked, steak tips were demolished by our party so i'm guessing they were good and the salmon dish looked tasty! Parking was a real problem, it was raining pretty hard too, like i said the place wasn't that full but parking was a nightmare, maybe cinema goers are parking there and walking over to the theatre...... read more

Well, it wasn't great. It wasn't terrible. Service was average. The 3-4 women at the hostess stand were friendly. I just have no idea why they were all there. No grilled cheese on the kids menu. This was not a memorable experience. This restaurant has not really found it's identity yet. I draw a parallel to a teenager. Teenagers are great, but haven't quite figured out who the are or who they are going to grow up to be. Upon walking in the place, it feels a little upscale. This place is trying to cater to multiple demographics and in doing so struggles solidify any type of identity. The menu is not very inspired. Standard appetizers, salads, pizzas, pastas, and a few steaks. When looking at a menu, I always try to find a signature dish. Something that pops and sets a restaurant apart from the rest, my reason for coming back a second time. My party decided to start with several appetizers and go from there. We went with philly cheesesteak egg rolls, buffalo chicken dip, and potato skins. To be clear, nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable. We all agreed that we had much better versions of these apps at several other local restaurants. Everything was bland and basic. There was no experimentation with flavors which led to some boredom. After being disappointed with appetizers, we decided to skip forward to dessert. The turtle cheesecake was small and underwhelming. The creme brûlée was basic and came with a few rotten blueberries. The dessert course was similar the appetizers. Very basic flavors without inspiration or excitement. Overall, nothing was bad, but I am left with no reason to hold West End Grill above any of the other dozens of similar pubs and grills on the South Shore. West End is new and still has time to grown up and decide if it wants to commit to being upscale or go the sports bar route. Above all, they have an opportunity to experiment with the menu and create some excitement in Randolph. The last thing Randolph needs is another uninspired pub. Time to find yourself West End Grill. On the plus side, our waitress was friendly and very prompt. She kept our drinks full and offered some great conversation. The floor manager checked in several times and we were well taken care off. I've been hearing a lot about the West End Grill, the food and the service being comparable to that of high end restaurants and steak houses in Boston so my expectations were fairly high walking in after me and a friend settled on the place. The experience itself started off great, walking in to a warm environment being greeted attentively by two hostess and being sat quickly. We were then greeted by a very friendly waitress who took our drink order and asked if we would like bread, well the bread is where the experience started to go down hill. The bread comes out and to my surprise they are cold, out of the bag, dinner rolls that you can pick up at any super market or even your favorite Shoney's (Look it up if you don't know Shoney's). My opinion, if the bread isn't good, probably a good chance the food will be par to underwhelming. When looking over the menu I couldn't tell what they we're targeting, there was no theme, just a bunch of stuff on the menu. I've heard the steaks we're good but just two offerings and none of the other entrees really stood out so we ordered a few apps. We had ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Rolls, Buffalo Chicken Dip and Buffalo Potato Skins (On the specials). The cheesesteak rolls we're just plopped on a plate so no true presentation as some places will at least cut them on a bias to aid when sharing. They were filled with tender steak and a good amount of creamy gooey cheese (that's a good thing) with a crispy won-ton shell. They were good but left little to desire. With the Buffalo Chicken Potato Skins; meh. There was too much potato for it to be considered a skin and not enough or at least prevalent sized pieces of buffalo chicken to even know they were there. I've done buffalo chicken baked potatoes at home that would blow these away, plus they we're even serviced or complimented with blue cheese. As for the Buffalo Chicken Dip, this was by far my favorite. It was well done, piping hot and accompanied by enough chips to accommodate the whole bowl of dip. The major bright spot of the night was the service. Our server was very attentive and regularly checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. She was also helping with recommendations and her personal favorites. West End Grill could easily be a four, even five star with some changes to the menu and recipe's to give them their own identity. read more

The West End Grill is located conveniently next to the Showcase Cinema and I imagine it is a pretty popular spot for pre and post movie. We were there on a Monday around lunch and it was pretty busy. Inside us pretty spacious with lots of booths for 6. The menu us pretty standard pub/American fare with apps, salads, burgers, sandwiches and main entrees. It was pretty average. Service was good. Food was good. Location was good. All in all, a solid good. My husband had the shortrib sandwich with truffle parmesan fries. It was a little on the small size and I found the fries to be more salty than truffley. I had the eggplant salad and the presentation was better than it tasted. Kids had the chicken fingers which was good, a chicken caesar wrap which was pretty standard and the pasta, broccoli and chicken which was ok. We had 5 alarm cauliflower and chicken wings for apps. The winner gs were good. The cauliflower was not nearly as spicy as I had hoped. It was sort of expensive for what we got, but it was a good experience. This restaurant was formally Rick's Cafe a while back and now it's the West End Grill. The dining room hasn't changed much really, but my boyfriend and some others that I know say the bar has changed lots. I like the bar area particularly because there's a lot of seating on a non game night and you can't go wrong with the multiple televisions they have too. The owner of the place is extremely nice and friendly. The waiters that we've had are all awesome and attentive; I enjoy the prompt service, professionalism and patience they have to cultivate the dining experience that's positive and makes people come back! Appetizers that I love: -Buffalo Chicken Tenders with extra blue cheese They're breaded to perfection and are not overly spicy where your tongue goes numb. -Spinach and Artichoke Dip with tortillas This dip is particulary creamy and rich. I couldn't get enough of it!! Entrees that Rock: -You like steak? Get the steak tip dinner with whatever sides you want that's offered. Personally, I enjoy steak cooked medium and they really know how to do it right here! My friend, Michelle, was happy with it one night when she copied my exact same order. -Chicken Cutlet Sandwich with buffalo sauce is a big portion and fills my bf up everytime...he loves buffalo sauce way too much so buffalo sauce lovers will enjoy this sandwich.
