Decided to stop in for a professional fitting since it had been years since the last fitting. I used to run A LOT but life happened and running fell to the background. I needed a new pair of shoes to get back at it! Ended up with 1/2 size larger shoe and a great quality running bra for a larger chest (DD). Had such an amazing Coustomer service by Tim. Taught me a lot how shoes should fit. So much stuff I didn't know. So now I'm a proud owner of some really good running shoes. I ended up getting some brooks. There was know way I was gonna give anybody else my coins for them. And I've been to so many shoe stores in my life time and never got this great treatment and most of all knowledge on how shoes really work. And I thank you so much for that. I will be back for more. Last year i signed up for the Float Dodger 5K at the West Seattle Farmers Market only a week beforehand. I had a blast and even won the costume contest! When it came time to bite the bullet and invest in a real pair of running shoes, I knew it had to be from West Seattle Runner. I was helped as soon as I came in and Tim offered me a few pairs to try on. It was shortly after the new styles were released and he grabbed some discounted pairs (and who doesn't love a sale?!) He asked about my running goals and told me about the programs and group runs. I wish I lived in West Seattle still so I could train with the neighborhood! I drove past the shop and a voice called to me, but in my head. I parked my car in front of the shop and entered to find the sweetest greyhound in the world. Let's call her M. She looked at me with her eyes and we both knew that there was a purpose for our meeting. I sat on a cushion as M rested her head on my lap. She knew I needed new running shoes, preferably a pair with a lot of cushion to help absorb shock when my feet strike the ground. She evaluated my gait and entered the back of the store to retrieve several pairs of shoes for me to try. M was patient and answered all my questions, only no one else could hear us. Time stood still as I tried each pair of shoes, walking the store and waiting for M to nod her in approval. When just the right pair fit my feet like a glove, she knew her work here was done and returned to her resting place atop the mountain. Her companion Tim explained the mechanics of the shoe to me, let me know about the store's running program if I was interested, and let me know I could return the shoes if for any reason I wasn't happy. But M knew what I needed, she knew the pair that would fit my needs, and she was right. I ran yesterday morning in my new shoes and my legs felt great afterward. Like others here have said, they have very nice staff and great customer service and a great selection. The storefront is very difficult to find - we drove past twice before we figured it out - but I'm guessing they will fix that. The real problem is that I just am not happy with what they recommended for me. While they did watch my walk a little bit, it was a very basic and cursory examination and in the end the shoes they said were the shoes for me are just not something I can run in. I've tried, and I think they didn't really listen to my requests (I said I needed a light shoe, and while it wasn't clear that this was the case in the store, the shoes they sold me are significantly and noticeably heavier than my last pair of running shoes). The shoes make my toes fall asleep. I'm not sure if I can return them, since it's been two months, but I cannot use the shoes they sold me. The guy working with me was young and while that doesn't mean he's not knowledgeable, he wasn't confident, which was obvious since he kept looking to his two co-workers for approval when he was working with me. Unfortunately, the co-workers were working with other customers and weren't able to help him, and I suspect his more rookie knowledge resulted in the shoes I'm not happy with. I totally believe he'll learn - and probably already has - but unfortunately I can't use these shoes. However, while I don't trust their shoe-fitting skills, they have great merchandise other than shoes and they know a lot about that as well. I got fantastic headphones and the guy working really told me in great detail about the options and made knowledgeable recommendations. So, I would definitely return for other running gear, but I will go elsewhere for shoes, preferably a place that does a real shoe fitting and foot analysis that's more elaborate than "walk 20 feet." read more

Wandered in cause I always like to find running shirts with the local area tagged on them. Reminded me of my local running store at home but had a lot more brand choices in the clothing line. It was nice to see Zoot which I generally have to look for online. I did get my shirt but pickings were slim for my size but I got something anyway. Was greeted immediately going in and the service checking out was quick and friendly. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Sales Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and patiently helped me find the perfect shoe(s). I'm more of a walker, so don't let the name "Runner" confuse. The folks at West Seattle Runner are wonderful! They provide great customer service. They were very attentive and patient as they helped me pick out my new pair of running shoes. Beyond that, Tim and Lori have created a real sense of community at their shop. They sponsor group runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. They have have a local physical therapist and sports medicine doctor attend the store meetings on various Wednesdays. I can't emphasize enough that this is a great place to shop. What's more, I've participated in their Saturday runs, and received encouragement and support. I highly recommend West Seattle Runner for your running shoe purchases. And I highly recommend them in helping you reach your running goals. Every time I come to this store, I find what I need...whether it's a reflective vest, a new hat or shoes that work for my feet, this store has what I need. I also appreciate the weekly emails I get from the store that give me updates about group runs, West Seattle running events, etc. West Seattle is a great running community, and this store has provided us with a friendly home base. read more

I like to support small businesses so have bought my running shoes here (and for my family of 4)for the past 5 years. I always get the same pair unless they don't carry them anymore and then go with their recommendations. This past Sunday I went in and the salesperson told me they don't carry Adidas anymore due to some contracting issue, but he would ask Tim if they could order them. Tim came out of the back and looked at my shoes and said no they can't order them, and that he is "not a fan" of Adidas. (But he was a fan when I bought them last time at his recommendation at $180)Then he told me he possibly had a pair in the back room in my size. The salesperson came out with a box of Adidas that was not the Boost that I wear. He told me it was the last pair and on Clearance so he could sell them to me for $75.I pulled one out and it was obviously been used. They were not only dirty on the soles but the inside of the shoe was nasty and had hairs and dirt. He never mentioned to me that they had been used and returned. I am in shock that he would try to sell me "on clearance" for $75 a used pair of shoes. No other recommendation for another pair/brand that they carry. No salesmanship or customer service whatsoever. It was the most odd experience shopping. I won't be back and will just buy my shoes online from now on. read more

Been running for two years and now I have a favorite running store. I have purchased stuff at their old store - clothes, accessories, Garmin watch, etc. Today, I decided to check out the new store and go on their evening run. I did pass the store the first time driving down the street but found it the second time. I do like the new store being on street level instead of the second floor like the old store and it had a good feeling inside. Kind of like their neon sign. If they had that on a shirt I would probably buy it. The sales person was excellent and helpful not pushy at all. I think she is the owner but not sure. I'll ask next time. I did go on the 6 mile run which was great, such a nice day running along Alki Beach. I did get to test drive a pair of Hoka Clifton shoes. They felt just as good as my favorite Brooks Ghost 7 , but a little different. Ended up buying a pair for myself and ordered a pair of size 5 for the wife. Can't wait for those to come in. Definitely my favorite running store which will get all my future business. Looking forward to the next run. I clicked moderate for the price range, but if they had a button between moderate and pricey I would have choose that. Good shoes aren't cheap. Thanks, Paul aka Don read more
