We were looking for a quick breakfast before heading out to explore LA. Our local friends recommended we check out Western Bagel as it was just down the street from where we were staying. The location is pretty small and seating is fairly limited, however we went early and it wasn't busy. The menu had plenty of items, but it wasn't a Cheesecake Factory book menu. We ordered a traditional bagel sandwich and a turkey bagel sandwich. They were prepared quickly and tasted great. The staff was also friendly during the entire experience. The bagel selection was plentiful, but we were interested in a bagel sandwich, since our stomachs were empty and our hearts were set on this decadent treat. Our selections: got a lox special on a cheese everything bagel and a pastrami sandwich on jalapeño and cheese everything bagel. The lox was scant and the cream cheese too thick and too much. Overall, it was mediocre, but nothing to write home about! The pastrami was quite different. The sandwich was delicious, but I would have probably gotten so tired of it after a few bites. The bagels were a bit on the denser side (not as airy and fluffy dense like some bagels are) and the flavor of the everything and cheese was alright. I live in Northern Cal, but I come to LA for family frequently... and right under seeing family on my list is going to Western Bagel! I've been to a few different spots, one on Santa Monica Blvd also Panorama City... but this location is near the in-laws. All I know is these bagels make my belly happy!!! Unfortunately recently being on the FODMAP diet I can no longer indulge in my favorite the "everything" no onion or garlic for me... so sad. But the sesame and the pumpernickel are also big faves so I'm still good!!! I only wish I didn't have to stuff these bagels in my carry-on and bring home to NorCal to satisfy my bagel need (Western we need you up North please!!!). This Western Bagel is in a wonderful location, in very close proximity of our home. We moved to the valley just over 2 years ago and frequent this location. We have had a great experience when calling in orders typically handled by their younger employees just by coincidence. We have had some trouble when placing orders via Yelp/Grubhub due to the order displaying error on our phone when checking status, but we find that the order did actually go through. I have had to call customer service to cancel these duplicate orders whenever this issue arises. While annoying it hasn't been much of an issue since I know there is a bug in the ordering interface. While location is great and most employees are wonderful, my wife and I have both had unpleasant experiences when dealing with a particular employee by the name of ELIAS. He is an older gentleman with glasses. He speaks loud and abruptly. He lacks any form of charisma when dealing with customers. He walks away to the back when you are clearly waiting patiently at the register to pick up an order. He demands you show him your phone when picking up an online order, but fails to tell you why he is asking. He demands you show him your order. You show him your order then follows by demanding you show him the name on the order. He does all this in the most unpolite tactless manner. My first experience with Elias, he would not provide me with my order even though I gave him my name, specific spelling of my name, and a detailed description of my order. He told me he would not give me my order and to come back with my phone! I asked him if there is anyway someone who did not place the order would be able to arbitrarily guess a specific name, spelling of my name, description of both sandwiches in an order, and that order to just so happen be sitting tucked under the register in a brown paper bag at the precise time of my visiting their bakery?! I think not. If so, I should audition for America's Got Talent and land myself a magic show in Vegas! Apparently, this was not enough information. I let it go time and time again never mentioning to my wife how rude this individual is on a repeated basis. Until this past weekend when my wife visited Western Bagel, also placing an online order, then coming home in irritation asking me who the hell that guy at the bakery thinks he is?! What a jerk! While I may personally tolerate Elias treating me this way as I just haven't had the time to deal with it in the early morning, I absolutely won't tolerate my wife being disrespected in any way. On the following Monday, I placed a mobile pick up at the nearby Starbucks just a couple doors down and as I waited for my order, I walked into Western Bagel and asked a young gentleman for the older man's name who was standing just behind him. He stated his name is ELIAS. As Elisa's heard his name, he looked up from the counter and stared me down until I walked out of the bakery to pick up my coffee next door. Of course, not before thanking the young gentleman for his help. With that said, we have decided to try the Western Bagel on Mason and Devonshire with a much more pleasant experience. This location is further out of our way given I would pick up bagels on my way to work. I imagine my wife and I will both tire of driving out of the way for a bagel and just eliminate Western Bagel as our go to altogether. read more

Ordered online for a 40 person group event the night before the event. Got the order confirmation back by email. Went to pick it up at the scheduled time. After waiting for 10 minutes without any acknowledgement or attempt to interact (not just me but also the other customers waiting around) I finally get to someone about my order. I'm told there's a payment issue and I'll have to pay for it there. Showed them the confirmation and they said "yeah, it's a problem on our side." Ok fine, I'll pay for it there. But because of the payment issue, the order is not ready and will take at least 20 minutes. And the guy is going on break so add another 10 minutes. For 3 dozen bagels and pastries. He says "it is what it is and what do you want to do." What I want to do is go to Corner Bakery next door and get my stuff in 10 minutes. The store located in a big shopping center with lots of parking a little busy on Saturday morning but they have a great service so the line moves fast. big bagel selection and on top of it they have sandwiches and Panini options. I went for the Bagel, Lox, Cream Cheese, onion, tomato option, it was so good I almost ordered another one. the bagel is so fresh , and the add on as well. I'd put Western Bagel in the top 20 SFV spots I frequented while working on my undergrad at CSUN. The breakfast bagel sandwiches were a Sunday staple (along with the carnival that is Costco free samples), and every now and again we would purchase a dozen (sesame seed of course) with some of their delicious cream cheese. The customer service was always... "meh," but you can't beat the product in the area.
