My wife and I have been visiting Western Bagel for the past few Saturdays. This morning (09/07/24), we placed a to-go order and requested the cream cheese on the side. Unfortunately, the two containers of cream cheese we received were very old and rotten, emitting a foul odor reminiscent of feet and vomit. My wife and daughter didn't notice at first and ended up eating some of the spoiled cream cheese. We promptly returned the rotten cream cheese and bagels to the store (having to get back in our car and drive across town - inconvenient). Although the staff offered us a refund, they seemed unapologetic and unconcerned about serving rotten food to their customers. It appears that food safety is not a priority at Western Bagel. Unless you enjoy a side of food poisoning with your bagels, I would recommend avoiding this establishment. read more

I understand this location hires local teens which I completely support, however 50% of the time they get my order wrong, or flip flopped. My rating has nothing to do with the food. Food is great. But the errors are irritating. The young man actually wrote my order down this time and still managed to completely mismatch the sandwiches. Not like I have to tell anyone whose had an Everything Cheese bagel from Western Bagel... but if you haven't - DO IT. Hands down the best bagel here. Warm it up a tad to get the cheese melty and liven up the garlic and you will have a party of flavor in your mouth. Besides the great selection of bagels, they have muffins, cinnamon rolls and awesome cookies!! Everyone here was pleasant and friendly behind the counter. Before my medical procedure we stopped here to get bagels and cream cheese for the doctors and nurses. I didn't try them but they looked delicious. They have a great variety, not all are included in a dozen they are a dollar more. Which is crazy because they are already expensive. They have lots of different flavors of cream cheese to pick from. Severely embarrassed that this is the western bagel closest to me. i we ordered the traditional and a pastrami sandwich .The bagels themselves are smaller than the palm of my hand. i've never been to a western with such small bagels. besides that the $15 traditional sandwich only had one piece of salmon on each half and a thin slice at that. I love Western bagel, and this is one of my favorite breakfast items, and it's always been made with two or three pieces of salmon per half. This isn't the first time I've been disappointed with this spot. Last time as well, We were served really small bagels. it seems to be a habit with this Western Bagel. I was afraid to bring up the fact that there was barely any salmon as a customer service was not good. and after being in the really cramped small space, I didn't want to go back in. I've been a big fan of Western Bagel and have been frequenting their various locations for many years. I decided to stop in their Valencia location while recently in the area and enjoy my favorite, "the traditional." It's a lox and bagel sandwich. It comes with all the usual trimmings, such as cream cheese, sliced tomatoes and onions. They typically add lettuce, which I think is bizarre for lox and bagels, so I always ask them to leave that off. Upon request, they will add capers, which I think complements the sandwich nicely. They will make this sandwich with virtually any type of bagel they offer, and will also toast it if that is what you prefer. This particular location has a number of tables set outside in front of the store, which I thought was especially nice, if you want to eat your sandwich inside and be safe during this pandemic. read more

Gave this location the benefit of the doubt, and returned back the day after 10/13/24 around 8am critically observing every single thing. "Customer service" As my family and I walked in breena and another employee were laughing, every time they came in contact with one another she would say something and laugh, you received a bad review full of honesty take it with a grain of salt , grow and improve try not to react in bitterness. There was a gentleman in upper management. As he would come around to the front from the back, she would stop gossiping as he would leave she would resume. As for the other coworker entertaining the bitterness. Starring causing uncomfortability, My review stands and if you care about making authentic professional customer service relations I would probably steer clear and choose another location . read more

I can't remember the last time I stopped by this Western Bagel but since then I haven't updated my review. This is definitely a well deserved update and upgrade from my prior 2-star review! Swung by Thursday morning around 8am, a few people in the store so I got lucky after the breakfast crowd. Immediately greeted by a friendly, attentive, and fast working young girl who took my order and asked if I wanted or needed anything else. From walking in to walking out with my food it was only about 5-6 minutes, that's faster than most "fast food" restaurants! I used this week's bagel brad deal for a turkey egg a-la-bagel on an everything cheese bagel and added scallion cream cheese. Of course the $4.25 deal turns into $7.50 sandwich (which is fine because it's still better than paying $10+!) The sandwich is FILLED with everything - fluffy egg, a thick slice of turkey, cheese, cream cheese, all on the toasted cheesy bagel. I took it home and maybe 15 minutes later dug in and the sandwich was still hot, bagel was still crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and it really is one of the best breakfast sandwiches around. My ONLY complaint and something that differs from my usual visit to the original Western Bagel location - there they used sliced turkey which is moist and tender whereas here they use a single thick slice (maybe the worker was just being quick or lazy, or maybe it's the way they make it here) but the turkey is extremely dry and harder to eat with the sandwich on the thicker ends since it's a little uneven of a cut. For all my New York friends, yes we get it.. you guys have the best bagels and won't let anyone forget about it. We try our best here haha. I think it's the water over there or something. But California can do good bagels too! Western Bagel has been here pretty much forever! They've been on Earth longer than I have so to me that counts for something. Says a lot about their service and quality of product. And every time you come you get the same quality you expected before. I love pretty much all bagels, there's no flavor of theirs I wouldn't try, and they have a lot of them. Different types of cheese bagels, cinnamon sugar, chocolate chip.. even pizza bagels. And if you're in the mood for a bagel sandwich they do those too. I recommend trying any type of cheese bagel, everything is tasty, the plain if you're in the mood for a classic. They keep well too, so get a bunch and enjoy them throughout the week. And try their cream cheese too, it's a bit better than the Philly from the grocery store. The bagels can get a little pricey over $3 - $4 for most but I think it's well worth the price. I'm giving them a 4.5 because the size of the bagels has decreased over the years but that and the price are the only things that aren't perfect. This spot is a very solid little Mom & Pop type bagel shop. The service was quick and they have a solid selection of many bagels! They don't call it the bagel that changed the west for no reason. Brody made me an incredible bagel that he recommended. He called it a "heart stopper" egg sandwich with jalapeño cream cheese haha what a name. Twice now, I've ordered via Grubhub and they've gotten my order wrong. It is very clear on the order, this is not Grubhub's issue. This is Western Bagel. Someone is receiving the order and not reading it thoroughly. Got a bagel sandwich that specifically said NO cheese, had cheese. I thought just a simple bagel with butter would be easy. It's a build your own bagel. That itemizes everything. So when it says NO cream cheese and add butter, should be obvious. While I would think that anyone in town already knows how delicious the bagels are here, I like to still show my love for the places I frequently visit. Nothing is better than a fresh bagel from here, other than a fresh bagel sangy at 5am when they open & I am starving! I will admit that I was not huge on the bagel sandwiches the first time I ate it, but I was hooked by my second time eating it. My fave is the bacon, egg, & cheese bagel sandwich with extra bacon, well done. Just got one today & enjoyed every bite of it. I am always surprised by how friendly the employees are though when I pick up my order 15 minutes after they open, which is 5:15am. It can not be easy to be so friendly that early in the morning shortly after getting to work, haha. Anyways, I love so many things from here & I don't know what I would do without this place! First time here, we were helped out by Shelby and we ordered two of the Jalapeno Everything bagels and one sprouted wheat. Guess which ones my son and I ate and which one my wife ate...yep..good guess. I was surprised the Jalapeno bagel had some bite to it and when we added the garlic and herb cream cheese it was really flavorful and tasty. Western Bagel has always been one of my favorite bagel spots since I was a kid. Obviously they have added more goodies now, so it's not just your typical bagel shop. I spotted these cinnamon rolls and really cute mini bundt cake muffins, that I definitely want to come back and try. Anyways so many bagels to choose from. I came in closer to noon, and I figured most of the bagels were gonna be gone, but they were well packed. I ended up getting an egg bagel with cream cheese non toasted. It was fresh and really soft, enjoyable. The staff was very friendly and there was a lot of them, cleaning tables and helping customers.
