The polite and welcoming service furthered the establishment's warm and inviting ambiance. I was struck by the Westfield Diner's upscale environment. Unlike other diners I've visited, this one held out when it came to looks and modern design. There were tasteful additions that gave it a contemporary and relaxing feeling while still retaining the typical diner charm. First of all do not let the 3 starts throw you. It is a diner, and I would posit that the average diner is, well, average. If it is diner you crave, meaning a huge menu of items spanning virtually every part of Europe and the Americas, then this is an ok choice. There are, however, some amazing diners, which define quality exciting new cuisine, but sadly this isn't one of them. The owners are nice, the food is always good, especially...and this will only shock someone not from NJ... the Greek food, as many diners are owned by the Greek and it is something that many excel at. The atmosphere is standard diner fair, which is not to say bad, just close quarters, but the volume makes it a lively place to go. If you are looking for some slightly better food, there are two equally busy diners within a few miles of this one, but if you decide to go, the food will likely be exactly what you expect. read more

We walked in @ 9:50 pm on Thursday evening(Google says the restaurant closes at 11:00 pm). We wouldn't have minded going to a different restaurant when the host advised that their kitchen was closing @ 10 pm. What made it uncomfortable and unwelcoming was how the host. It wasn't necessary for him to snap your fingers and shake his head. he didn't really give us the option to make a choice since he was advising while we were being led to our table. I come in often for various meals today is the day we happen to write the review. ;) Firstly the diner is cozy and plenty of windows and booths to choose from. There are TVs and music played while dining here, they have a coat closet toward register and entrance doors have a bit of a foyer to wait for table or just come in from the cold, or wait for a ride etc. They do have a outdoor patio for dining and a small private room before restrooms separate from main dining room. The menu is HUGE Italian dishes to Greek inspired and friendly bar food and the County breakfasts are also offered. I ordered a chicken Gyro and we had a breakfast order and another dinner entree all on the same ticket. Everyone gets what they want! Yum! Our food and custom shakes/sodas came out quickly and food and drinks tasted great. Our wait staff were attentive and helpful answering questions about the menu and coordinating out to go order right towards our finishing our meal. This is a Great Diner and it offered many conveniences from comfort to food to hours available for service. Parking was well lit for a 24 hrs place and if you coming in for a quick bite; there is a standard sized counter area if you want to seat yourself or don't need a table. read more

This diner is top three in NJ. Solid, Steady, no surprises, service great, food always good to great quality. And I'm guessing they could care less about a yelp review. This is a family run place that has been nailing it day after day for decades. They don't need to be told they're good. In Union county I can't think of many competitors. First time there. Food was good if a bit overpriced. Meatloaf was on point. Salmon salad was decent. Chicken fingers and fries were adequate. Coffee was good. About an hour in, our server dropped off the receipt and took half-finished plate away before I could even say anything while others at our table were still eating. I told the server I felt rushed. She said, "Well, that's the name of the game, isn't it?" (There was nobody waiting to be seated and tons of empty tables in her section and throughout the whole restaurant.) This is just your average diner- extensive menu, reasonable prices, average food, and large portion sizes. It's great for a casual quick bite and if you're craving typical diner food! They start you off with complimentary bruschetta which I thought was nice! The baguette was warm and toasted. For entrees, I got a veggie burger with fries (it doesn't come with fries) and my mom got the deluxe hamburger. We both agreed that the best part about the meal was the fries!! My veggie burger was alright, and the regular burger was a little on the blander side. After nine months of brutal and terrible decisions by the NJ State Governor to keep businesses closed, I had a near religious experience at the Westfield Diner, this GYRO Sandwich was likely the best ethnic greek sandwich I've ever eaten and I've had such food before in Athens that wasn't this good! This is your typical jersey diner except the owner and the staff are friendly. Our group of 40 people came in and they bent over backwards to accommodate us. They staff was running around crazy getting us extra chairs after all, the back room is small. I ordered the ranch burger. I was impressed because this burger came with bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce, red onion, tomato , onion rings and coleslaw and pickle.Most burgers give you only one side. Great family place -- one of our regular stops when we visit our son, who lives in Westfield. Essentially a Greek restaurant, but all the regular diner staples are available. I got so sick after eating there last night that I had to post this review. My salad was actually WARM and so was the dressing, so I am wondering if this is the issue. My coleslaw also tasted funny after one bite and I did not have any more. I do not know the culprit, but I was up all night long with severe stomach pain, vomiting etc... I feel okay now and I am glad. However, I will not be going back to this diner. This is not a virus. It is definitely food poisoning of some sort.
