We happened to find Westfield Diner after a ballgame..and loved their dinner 'specials' ..even though we didn't live close by, we traveled there 1-2 times a week for their specials and never were disappointed...UNTIL now when recently we received an email (I prefer to call it a wake up call) showing their 'new' pricing..DOUBLE the price they used to charge for SAME 'special'!! A 3 course 'special' (soup, entree & scoop / sliver of dessert) for $39.99, would cost a couple close to $100 after tax & tip‼ An absurd expense for a meal at a 'diner'..guess they'll be selling lots of burgers & pancakes than dinners..Thanks Westfield Diner for the heads up, saving us travel time, gas and alot of money by eating out closer to home‼ read more

The review, I'm just letting you know ahead of time is going to be my personal nit-picking since diners are pretty much the same all over New Jersey. If you're going to be a bombasss diner that I'm going to flock to, then there better be something different. Im sorry to say that Westfield Diner did not have anything to stand out. Let's start with the pros: I appreciated that the diner was still open past midnight. Good for us drunkies crawling out of Yestercades. We were seated immediately, but since we were a group of 6, we had to be separated into 2 booths. Honestly idk why when there were three tables that could've been pushed together, but I guess since it was late they didn't want to make that accommodation. Our waitress was okay.... our food was okay... Cons: One of the guys in the group ordered a milk, but forgot to say chocolate. The waitress took it away and looked pissed af. My friend said sorry and offered to chocolate syrup in it, but the waitress just said it's fine and stormed off. My sister had ordered disco fries and given the option to choose what kind of cheese she wanted on top, but I had ordered a similar dish just with curly fries and did not get the same option. As you could see in the picture I attached, the cheese was horribly melted. Basically 2-3 slices of cheese just slightly melted and there was barely any gravy with the fries. Also, our dishes came at time different times. We like to eat when everyone has their food but it was like intervals of plates coming out. Didn't have a bad experience when I was here earlier this evening with the family. Our waiter was cool and attentive throughout our dining experience. The meal portions were HUGE. I had the Balsamic Pork Chops which came with mashed potatoes (see picture). That came with a choice of soup, salad, and dessert. Five minutes after my family and I placed our orders, the food immediately came right out, which was much quicker than I thought. The complimentary bread basket which came out as well was hot and fresh, and was perfect for dipping in the soup. Crackers came with that as well. Here's what I had: Chicken Noodle Soup: HOT and tasty, and perfect for dipping of bread and crackers. Plain Salad with Croutons: Tasted fresh. Balsamic Pork Chops: Those were huge, and tasted great! The mashed potatoes were just okay. Chocolate Layer Cake: Tasted great; nice ending to a good meal. The fact that my entree came with all the extras was a perfect value meal. Typical diner. The food is okay, but not great. Prices are mainly over $10, which is fairly reasonable given the huge portions. One dish could feed a couple fairly easily. I had blueberry pancakes, beef sausage, & eggs. The pancakes almost didn't have any flavor. They tasted nearly identical to frozen blueberry pancakes I used to eat in elementary school. Except the pancakes at this diner were $15. The sausage was good. The eggs were just (quite literally) eggs. Someone cracked them into a pan, swirled them around a few times, and threw them on the plate. I mean I guess that's normal, but what I'm saying is they weren't anything special. I've had good eggs before. And I've had eggs that didn't require effort . These were the latter. This isn't a place you go to for pancakes or eggs. Stay home if that's what you plan to order. You can buy frozen pancakes for a lot cheaper, and get the same result. I didn't even bother to take a picture of the food. That's how lackluster it was. I'll be blunt. People smoke blunts here. It shouldn't be allowed. However the French fries are fantastic and I hear the chef in the back is ethnically Greek and a true chef. This is why the Gyros are pretty rocking. I was honestly bugging because the waitress gave me dirty looks. I wondered curiously if I had lettuce in my teeth, dandruff on my hair, stains on my vintage thrifted T-shirt? I don't think so. She told me my son seemed to be troubled and I agreed. This was a very informative evening that's for sure. I have one more thing to say. Why do all the Westfield kids "hang" here? I've been coming for years and always have a quality experience for a reasonable price. Every Wednesday is Italian night and they surprisingly do a very solid and satisfying job with the menu. Yolanda and Doug are my favorite servers. If you request either of them you can't go wrong. I usually rain check and go elsewhere if they are out sick or cut early because catching up with them is half the joy of going! One important note is that the curly fries are worth the upgrade - so much better than the standard fries. I highly recommend the Chicken Milanese salad, and their Penne à la Vodka is one of the best I've ever had. Always a great selection of soups as well. read more

Went to the diner with my wife for an after movie bite. What a mistake!!!!!! Simple food gone bad, my wife had a BLT that the bacon was so burnt it was like eating bacon bits, fresh made, no doubt it had been laying on the grill since breakfast time; sandwich inedible. I ordered pancakes, 3 good size pancakes all in different degrees of doneness from undercooked to burnt. On the bright side the chicken sausage on the side was great, even though the waiter could not recommend them as he never tasted them before. In the end we should have sent our food back. Pretty average diner! Went with a friend who is GF and they have a good variety of GF options. Pancake portions are huge (we're talking serving played sized pancakes and you get 3). I got the Nova lox benedict. Delicious but wish they added some capers! Home fries were a little burnt but still tasty. I would definitely return again. Yes mayo...reminds me of Sandwichs Unlimited, Main Street in Orange that made it that way in the 70's..mmm. Well the meat was awesome, wrap was a good choice for eating on the run and the rings where panko fried to perfection. Dill chips were crisp and refreshing substitute to mustard. Stopped in for a light dinner recently. Ordered a Cape May salad which included some sautéed shrimp, avocado, and blue cheese crumbles over the usual salad fixings with a balsamic vinaigrette on the side. The shrimp were small but an adequate portion. The avocado had some black streaks through it which probably means it was a day too old. The salad overall was fresh. She told the waiter that was not what she ordered and he insisted it was. (BTW, she never orders the waffle because it is not worth the price, but she does like their French Toast). Anyway, the waiter just kept pushing that was what she ordered and I think he did not want to admit that he made a mistake. As I review different diners each week I have to say I am finally excited to say the staff here was phenomenal. The best wait staff I've experienced in a long time. We ordered mozzarella sticks as soon as we sat down with our drinks. In a flash he was back with my coffee and the mozzarella sticks. Before you know it our food was out. He was managing many tables but didn't miss a beat. I wish I had his name. Refills were done without asking and everything was delicious. This diner didn't have the best yelp reviews so I wanted to make sure I wrote on here. We enjoyed every part of our meal and the food was good! Most importantly because the staff was friendly and helpful we are planning on returning maybe for lunch or dinner. This is how you treat customers in a restaurant!! Well done! read more

Seriously nasty, dead tasting fried food. Baked potato was greasy and mush. Spinach and feta stuffed musb Hroom florentine tasted sour and gross. The eggplant parmesian was grossly fried and mushy and nasty tasting, and they even made their spaghetti taste bad (how?)... their "cajun calamari" was overfriend squid with teriyaki sauce and marinera dipping sauce (how is that cajun???!). The salad was basic and canned (iceberg lettuce and chickpeas? Wtf) The lobster bisque and french onion soups were both sub-par. The only thing that tasted somewhat good were the "techno fries" (curly fries with gravy and cheese), but they even fucked that up by putting american cheese on top (gross!). Horrible horrible service !! My husband ordered the soft tacos and it comes with a side of rice. The rice and beans looked like it was made last week. The guacamole that it came with was pure LIQUID. It looked like diarrhea. I ordered the Greek chicken panini which comes in a multi grain bread. First of all the bread was not your average panini bread, it was a pita bread. Secondly, everything was falling off and ending up on my plate. So I told the waiter and he argued with me and said "well that's how paninis are made." Uhh, not really.
