Inside out: I love the Parking and I love the building and vibe. The location is a bit out of the way for us but not for many. I like that it isn't crowded into some tight spot. The decor is 50s and so is the music (which thankfully is an acceptable volume). The booths are comfortable though slightly worn. Service: always friendly, never had an issue the crew on this rainy Saturday seems to get along with one another. We got our food exceptionally fast. Eats: Which moves us on to the food, I have had the impossible burger almost everywhere at this point and this is simply a no. The bun was fresh but not a complimenting flavor, it was expensive, way too much lettuce, not well put together, not hot. My husband was exceedingly pleased with his chicken strips basket and tots. The tots were good. The burger was just so disappointing, and then expensive to boot, I'm glad it's offered but somethings gotta change on prep. All the other food I have had has always been tasty. The shakes are fab and lovely in the summer. To be honest there are some better ones at similar joints, beer and wine make up for it. I know it's weird but I love that they give you a fortune cookie! Over all I'll give it another chance, we don't come here often but the prices are a little steep but mom and pop places probably have to keep the lights on and pay a hopefully decent wage so I get it. I was super bummed with my food tonight. I was excited to have a "cheat meal". I decided to get the stroganoff because that's what I normally get when I come here. The best way I can explain it, is that the meat in the stroganoff tasted old and gristley. Like when I heated it up in the microwave it was like the 4th or 5th time it had been heated. I also get a side of fries and I Love salt, like a lot of salt. These fries had way too much salt and season and like I said that's hard to over do for me. Just a bummer for sure read more

This is the only drive - in that has everything. They are famous for the ice cream potato. If you are looking this is where it is. Did you know that they also serve beer? This may not be so unique that they have beer, you can get it at the window where you pick up your food. I have not seen other drive-ins that do this. I love the food here. I got a cheeseburger and my boyfriend got a tuna melt and was delighted. The sweet potato fries are on the salty side, but they give you some fry sauce and something that looks like a butter sauce. My experience with the original is that the burgers are meh but their fish and chips are yummo same here . It's clear to me that they serve burgers out of obligation because they are a drive-in but the other things are what shine and what got them on diners drive-ins and dives My son ordered a jr cheeseburger with nothing but ketchup and mustard. He loved it! I think my previous rating on the burger (at the other place) was poor bc once you add other things to it the meat to bun ratio is just not enough meat! But this was a perfect cheeseburger for a hungry post taekeondo 7 year old. I (against my better judgment) ordered a chili dog. I'm very picky about chili, especially one that has kidney beans in it, but this was pretty good chili. I don't think there's any meat in it? Too many hunks of green bell pepper for me and anyone in Texas will tell you that Bellpepper does not belong in the chili - but I'm not from Texas I just get heartburn. Lots of shredded cheddar on top and I asked for onion. The picture I post shows the onion before I scraped a bunch off. Way too much. The hot dog was grilled well. Black-ish edges but not burnt. Def could've toasted bun a bit more--again bread to meat ratio was on the bread side and the way they served it, in a shallow like bowl created a mushy bread mess at the bottom that I didn't eat. I rarely get shakes but my skin flint of a son always does. the last 2 times he said that any flavor other than chocolate just tastes like vanilla. And he's right. We ordered a cherry, a caramel and a butterscotch malt (mmmmm for which I paid extra) and a vanilla for my boring boring Dad who only drinks vanilla shakes. They all pretty much tasted the same. Occasionally I'd get a small malt flavor, but I couldn't tell you where the butterscotch was, the Carmel flat tasted like vanilla, and the cherry, while pink just barely had the flavor. I have to say for my first time at this place I am very impressed. It's cute inside and the decor is awesome and kind of 50's diner like. The girls at the counter were very sweet and so helpful and made me smile right away- they were happy to be there. it feels like these days you just don't get that. because I am pregnant I was craving a cheeseburger so that's what I got- a Jr. cheeseburger and tater tots. I added a chocolate shake because why not? let's do this. everything was delicious and very fresh. the tots were extra crispy and the bun on the burger was squishy. I added grilled onions to my burger and they were perfectly sauteed. I also really enjoyed the fry sauce because it tasted fresh! they have a ton of options on their menu, and the food is reasonably priced, so i recommend bringing the family here and giving it a try! read more

They're burger was delicious! I'm allergic to raw onions so I was very happy when the server told the cooks about my allergy so my burger wouldn't be contaminated and send me to the bathroom half the night... wait too much information... anyway the cook got the message and gave me a sad face look, feeling sorry I couldn't enjoy a raw onion like the rest of them. I sad faced right back and got a big smile in return. Folks here are super friendly. Typical Idaho. I'm so happy to be here! She asked how I could eat cooked onions but not raw so I happily explained it. The older we get chances are many of us will find raw onions unsettling. I just wish restaurants would not automatically mix them in things like tuna salad, so all of us could enjoy a tuna salad. Those that can eat raw onions can easily request they're added. What a concept! I should open a restaurant! Oh wait... back to the food. While the burger was delicious... and safe for me to eat... no more onion y'all please! The fries on the other hand... at first glance they looked like shoestring potatoes that were left in the fryer too long. All I wanted was a nice ( PORK FREE) dinner for my wife's birthday. The young lady who helped me was a nice kid. When I got home i quickly realized this was not beef but pork . We called the Restaurant and explained what happen and all we wanted was for them to make us something none Pork related. The response we got was unprofessional and uncalled for. We told her that we don't eat pork meat because of our religion and that I did asked the nice young lady about it. She put us on hold to talk to her. We can hear her the conversation with the young lady and her response saying that I did ask her if it was Beef. Then she uses her strong attitude telling her how she should be asking the cooks about that. She comes back and tells us how she didn't know anything about that. Then she says she is not gone replace our food or give us our money back. After telling her that we overheard the conversation with her employee and that the food is not touched at all and my wife will bring it back to her she finally agrees to make us a couple sandwiches with some fries. 70$ worth of ribs for a few sandwiches. She was so disrespectful on the phone with us and telling us how she is to busy to talk to us. When we finally got the untouched food returned, there was no one in the restaurant and that was only a few minutes before we talked since we live close by!! We requested for the GM to call us and it's been almost a week and no one even cared to call us back. I am assuming that she didn't even care to share that with her GM. As a food and beverage professional who has managed and over seen many established and reputable operations I have never seen we'll known business treat their guests like this. I gave her every chance to fix the mistake but she escalated it to a horrible experience. I've eaten here many times, but after tonight never again. Family of four out for a casual Friday night dinner. One bbq bacon cheeseburger basket (son said it was terrible), one chicken sandwich basket (daughter said it was disgusting), one cheeseburger basket (wife hated it), and one chicken strips basket (I ate very little of it, because it sucked - chicken? I think it might have been dog!). Food was inedible all around. Service was terrible too. They forgot one shake and when I went back up to the counter I stood for 8 minutes while they just ignored me and pretended I wasn't there. This place has gone far downhill and fast. For those complaining about a line in the drive through and indoors yes, there is typically a line but that's because everything is so good and they don't make it until you order it! If you don't want quality food go to McDonald's. Love this place! Took my parents from out of town here and they now have wanted to come back multiple times. Great place! Good portion sizes. I would have given more stars, but the cashier worker was not wearing her mask over her nose. We all know that if masks aren't covering ALL breathing orifices, then there's no point in wearing a mask. It annoys me to no end when people don't wear a mask properly; why even wear one at all. The cooks weren't wearing masks at all either. The food is good, except the milkshakes are really under-sized: a large is like a medium, a medium is like a small and a small is like a tiny kids size. The fries are the opposite: a small is like a medium, and so on. There was also a looooong drive thru line and line inside the restaurant. This is just because too many people have moved to Boise; you can't go anywhere now without waiting in a long line. It's a bummer the workers aren't following COVID guidelines, so we won't be going to West Side again. read more

There's a lot going on here. I was both overwhelmed and drawn to this spot by the neon lights that adorn it. I've driven by it for years, so out curiosity I decided to try it out the other day! I hopped in line at the drive-thru and pulled up to order and had a hard time focusing my eyes on any one item due to the large amount of options on the menu - many of them looked wonderful, but the main thing I noticed was the prices (I thought they were a bit steep for fast food). I kept it simple and ordered a snack that was absolutely full of guilt - French fries and a small Oreo shake. The fries were delicious - they were shoestring fries and came well-seasoned. And the shake was good, but nothing special. It tasted more like a vanilla shake than Oreo, in my opinion. Their service was a bit slow (but I find this is common with locally owned fast food joints), but the girl who helped me out was really kind and pleasant to talk to! Overall, it wasn't a bad experience but it was nothing to rave about - just somewhere camped in the middle. I'd be interested to go back and try out a meal but the prices deter me from it. What I do know, is there will be a day when my French fry craving nags at me and when that happens, Westside Drive-In will most certainly be seeing me. read more

This was our first stop on Burgerpalooza, in search of the best burger in B-town. So, mainly this review is concerned with their burgers. Firstly, I must say that all participants of Burgerpalooza immediately agreed that this West Side (West Side on the East Side as we call it) seems superior to their location on State. This is weird, right? I don't know what the deal is. This location seemed to have a little fresher ingredients and the burger seemed to come out a bit hotter. Odd, I realize, but true nonetheless. Our motley crew of burger enthusiasts gave this place an average of 3.25 stars. So, a little over the a-ok mark but not quite to the yay, I'm a fan level. Their highest marks came in the "freshness" category. Their lowest marks came in the fries category (except for our beloved Cannonball Jack who somehow rated their fries a 9 on a 0-10 scale...but he was most certainly the exception). Other notes: Love that they have indoor seating at this location and the ambiance is fun with it's 50's-style-diner decor. The service was fast and courteous. They put a nest of shredded lettuce on their burgers that is a little overwhelming. They have fry sauce (Yay!!) and add a dab of it to their burgers (which I was unsure of and ended up enjoying well enough). Like their State Street location they have an expansive menu so if you've got a large group to feed, there is bound to be a little something for everyone. Came all the way from my home state to try out this fancy hotspot! Words can't express how much I love this place and the excellent service. The two smiley young ladies at the counter had been very polite and lenient to me the whole time. I felt bad for annoying them with lots of things but, they didn't seem bothered at all. For instance, I asked them if I could substitute something twice and they did it. Wow! Also, for the potato ice cream, I had to dip them all over in the chocolate sauce and eat it. There were too much nuts on the sauce and I often choked because of the large amount and it dries my throat badly. The girl wasted no time to give me an extra side of chocolate sauce to pour on top instead. They're lucky that they made a very happy, grateful out-of-state customer today. This location is further than the other Westside, so I would definitely come here instead even when I return to Idaho. Big thanks to those two girls today! To the manager and owner of this Westside, please give them a lot of credit. I had a rough, tiring, excruciating afternoon today but, they made my day so much better. It's pretty cool to get to eat prime rib wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Normally, you have to cook it yourself to get away with this behavior. The prime rib wasn't top shelf but it was pretty good. It came with a salad and a loaded baked potato as well. I don't love my prime rib with rosemary (in general) but the flavor on this prime rib was good. read more

Fingersteaks are not stringy or full of gristle, but are tender and delicious. I would rather they had more seasoning on the meat or the g but otherwise good. Mozzarella cheese sticks are breaded in house with an Italian style breadcrumb. Very tasty. Prime rib was delicious and cooked to the proper temperature. Salads, in small or large portions. I've tried the garden, chef and peanut chicken all were generous and satisfying. Okay, I'm pretty sure there is nothing Chef Lou can't do well. I can't give you a recommendation, because I've never had anything that wasn't great here. And the portions are above average, so beware. I will say one thing.... if you go to Chef Lou's to get a grilled cheese, don't expect a piece of processed cheese between a couple pieces of white bread. That's not Chef Lou. If you go to his diners, expect to have your taste buds engaged. There's a difference between MD & a fine wine. The same holds true at Chef Lou's. Got a French Dip tonight. To say that is was bad, doesn't do it justice. I would liken it to beef jerky on a bun, but at least beef jerky has some flavor. Let's just say I had pretty low expectations after reading the reviews and I would say they are pretty accurate. I am sure there are things on the menu that are declines but it would take forever to try them all (and you would double in size in the process). Let's start with the good: Service was great! The lady that helped us was very friendly, asked us how our night was, etc. The fries were very good as well. We ordered both regular and sweet potato fries to try some variety. The regular fries were very crispy and well seasoned. The bad: I ordered the Ruben and my wife got the Patty Melt. The Rueben was average at best but the bread got pretty soggy on the drive home but that's expected. The patty melt was not good. The onions were not exactly grilled but more warmed and it did not have a lot of flavor. Both of these came with "spicy sauce" Warning! "Spicy sauce" is basically all horseradish and it completely overpowers everything. Both sandwiches tasted like just horseradish which was not too pleasant and I like horse radish. Having said all of this, we will go back and try some other things on the menu. I am sure there are some delicious items on there 800 item menu! read more

I go here once a month roughly. The people are always super nice and the food is super consistent. Their fries and burgers are hard to beat for a fast food place. My only complaint is with them changing the chicken strip recently. The new ones taste good and all, but remind me of cafeteria chicken strips :/ read more
