Short Story: Wow, this place rivals Lady M! Long Story: This place is located in a strip mall right next to Saint John's burgers. It's a small place and cute with lots of windows. They have a variety of different mille cakes, filled cakes (for example persimmon), and MOCHI. It's highly recommended that you pre-order by calling or at least having them hold it for you. You can order by the slice or a whole cake. The cake shop was opened by two ladies who's initials start with the T and M. We've had many of their cakes such as earl grey, matcha, red bean, and persimmon. The prices are inline with South Bay prices (meaning $12+). I find their cakes to not be very sweet and better quality than Lady M! Verdict: I'll pre-order one for Christmas! read more

My personal flavor is egg yolk & pork floss and persimmon; one is rich; the other one is light but has great contrast. Unfortunately the orange earl grey tea crepe cake's orange flavor is too strong and I didn't taste the earl grey tea flavor. Store decorations are cute. I am a huge dessert lover and have always been on a hunt for unique dessert places in south bay. I've booked mark this place a long time now and was SO excited to finally buy and try out their crepe cakes for a friends birthday. However, it sadly was a disappoint. I got almost $100 worth of cake here. Some flavors I got were red bean peanut mochi, salted yolk & pork sung, crème brulee, earl grey and also tried box cake. The cake was about 12$ a slice and 28$ for a box cake which is a bit pricier than other popular crepe places like Lady M. However, most of the cake I got, despite of unique flavors were very bland. If you like "healthy" tasting cake then this place is the place for you. However, the cake we got were not sweet at all and the one cake that had some flavor was the pork sung one and that is because of the taste of the sung and I could barely taste the yolk. Lastly, the service when I was there was not the best. All in all, if I were to pay this much for a slice of crepe cake, I would go to lady M instead. But please take my review with a grain of salt if you want to check it out for yourself! My boyfriend found this local bakery and really wanted to try the Caramel Jasmine Avocado Molten Cake ($22.00 for 4") and the Honey Baked Cheese Chiffon Taro ($25.00 for 4") for his birthday. I ordered online and it was an easy enough process. The sizes are small enough that you'll be able to get a nice sample of both (and potentially squeeze in some other sweets!). The molten cake was light and airy and there were strong hints of jasmine and avocado. It definitely didn't strike me as an after dinner dessert cake, but maybe something you'd put out for afternoon tea. The taro cheesecake was oddly savory. I thought it was going to be a sweet cheesecake but it reminded me of American cheese melted on top. It's decent if you're looking for a savory cake but definitely not what I was going for. The major disappointment is the presentation. I wish there was something that could have better supported the molten cake. By the time the cake made it back home, it was severely lopsided. The cheesecake had a layer of film surrounding it to help maintain the shape. Fortunately, I had ordered another mini cake from another local bakery so all was not lost. read more

Doing a South Bay food adventure with an out of state friend and her local friend, we had a cake tasting reservation at WhaT's More Cake. I wasn't at first sure what this would be like, but I'm glad we made the stop here. It's located in a strip mall so parking was not an issue. The shop is bright, clean, modern and tastefully decorated. There are a couple of tables inside for you to enjoy your cakes. Trizia became a baker with no formal training and met her friend Michelle to open this shop specializing in Asian inspired artisan cakes. They had six flavors in the display case and each slice was in a paper container. You can order whole cakes as several customers came in to pick up their orders. These are crepe cakes and it's amazing how many layers of crepes are used to form a cake. We opted for three slices. The cakes might look very sweet, but they were just light in sweetness. Matcha crepe cake - very good matcha flavor with a matcha glaze. Red bean and peanuts mochi crepe cake - there were two layers of mochi cream and red bean within the cake. It was top with the mochi cream with a sprinkle of crushed peanuts. Salted egg and pork sung crepe cake - this was a savory cake, which I'm not accustomed to. It had two layers of pork sung or floss with salted egg and topped with pork sung. Eating in, they provide fancy teas that you steep in a glass pot at your table. We chose an osmanthus tea that was fragrant. Nice place to relax and have some fancy artisan cakes. The price per slice reflects the artisan craftsmanship of these cakes. read more

Pre-ordered a 5" Caramel Jasmine Avocado Molten Cake for my daughter's birthday. Her friends had taken her out and had the Orange Pistachio Molten Cake and she loved it, so she asked for the Avocado one to try for her birthday. Price: It think for a 5" cake, $36 is a bit pricey. I know a lot goes into making a molten cake, but for the size of the cake, a bit on the high end. Plus I think you're paying for a really nice cake box as well. Nice sturdy box with their logo/name on it with nice ribbon handles. Taste: ok, you're thinking ewww, Avocado??! Yup, it was interesting. Would I get it again, probably not. Initial taste was ok, but as you let the flavor develop on your tongue, you can definitely taste the avocado. That part was the "molten" of the cake. The cake itself was moist and the cream that was on top was good, not too sweet. They did ask if it was for a birthday and they gave me a birthday sign and candle for the cake. Shop: So you have to pre-order the cake online. Web page to order was easy enough to order, but you can't pick up the cake until after 3pm. So if you need the cake for a lunch party, you'll have to plan ahead. This place is in an unassuming area right off of Lawrence Expwy. I would have never known it was there. Shop is bright, minimalist decorated with a few tables to eat cake at and have tea. Looking around I saw a few folks have tea in those cute tea infusing pots. I'm so glad I bookmarked this place and gave it a try. I ordered their black oolong tea cake and the soy milk custard cake. The black oolong tea cake was so good! Light and fluffy, not sweet at all. I really like the tea flavor in their cream and the airiness for their cake. It's almost like eating a sponge cake. The soy milk custard cake was interesting. It didn't really taste like soy milk or custard and it was definitely rich and more creamy. My only gripe is that these mini cakes are pretty expensive. I could probably finish one of the cake to myself if I was determined. They also have other flavors as well, but so far, I really like the box cakes. I went with their recommendations of the Earl Grey and the Creme Brûlée cake. Both were extremely tasty! I would give the slight edge to the Earl Grey due to the amazing tea taste. The creme brûlée was not too sweet and the slightly crunchy top was a perfect contrast to the soft crepe. Total was $120 for a cake that easily fed 8 people. It's definitely more pricey than its competitors like Anton and Lady M, but I would highly recommend this place if you're willing to spend a little more. With such high reviews I bookmarked this place for over a year but never had a chance to swing by. I finally had an excuse to come and was surprised to find it in a unexpected plaza. Although the outside wasn't appealing the inside was cute and reminded me of a kcafe. It was empty when I came and the worker was really friendly. I tried to get a whole cake but they only had one left and the flavor didn't appeal to me so I passed on it. It seems like whole cakes need to be pre-ordered here, but they did have a good amount of cake slices available. I ended up getting the Soy Milk Custard Boxed Cake. I'm unsure why the menu says it's $31.50 online but when I came into the store I was told it was $28.00. It was very soft and creamy and very subtle in flavor. 4.5 STARS When I arrived at WhaT's More Cake, I was bummed that they didn't have the Soy Milk Custard Boxed Cake so I decided to get the Salted Yolk Box Cake ($22). I was going to wait until I got to my destination but that didn't happen. I dug into it in my car. OH. MAH. GAWD. Ok, the cake may not look pretty and may sound weird if you didn't grow up eating salted yolks and pork floss but it totally works! The chiffon cake is impossibly light and moist, layered with an airy whipped cream studded with salted egg yolks.... And, crowned with pork floss!!! A savory delicious umami bomb in every bite. It's pricey but the boxed cake can serve about 2-4 people, depending on your appetite. I ate a little less than 1/4th and was fully satiated. Currently, there seems to be only four cake choices that rotate daily, two boxed cakes ($22) and two crepe cakes ($14/slice). When I was there, the pastry case was empty except several cakes so they may be in a very soft opening phase. If you're looking for really unique, elevated Asian-style cakes, give WhaT's More Cake a try! P.S.- Not a typo, the "T" is a capitalized on the storefront sign and business cards. read more

I got a slice of the creme brulee crepe cake and it was so good -- not too sweet, and I loved the creme brulee topping. I came around 15 to 20 min after they opened, so I had to wait a bit for the cake, which wasn't a problem at all, but if you're in a rush I'd recommend calling ahead (which is what the lady recommended I do in the future) or showing up closer to 12 or 12:30 when all the flavors are ready read more

Had some hiccups with pick-up on New Year's Eve, but cakes were so good, still had to give them 5 stars. Tried the jasmine avocado cake (I opted for the smallest size, 4" for $22), and the passion fruit box cake ($26, see photo for size comparison). Both cakes were so light and fluffy. The jasmine avocado cake was so unique and tasty, could've easily eaten it all ~ the molten cream on top was not overly sweet at all, there was a fragrant jasmine note throughout the cake, and the avocado cream inside tasted like an avocado milk shake, lightly sweet with just the right flavor/texture. I see that if you like sweeter desserts or don't like avocado milk shakes lol, then maybe try a different cake. But personally I would gladly fork over the $40 for the 6" The passion fruit box cake was both sweeter and more tart. It is made up of two layers of cake, with a light cream in between and on top, plus a generous portion of passion fruit swirl on top. I loved the punch of tartness of the passion fruit swirl but it was also a little sweet for me (but for reference I order my boba drinks with zero sweetness lol). I did wish the ratio had slightly more cake to cream but overall still good. I pre-ordered online which was an easy process. At pick-up time however, there were some hiccups as maybe they overbooked? I did go on New Year's Eve, so maybe they were extra busy. I ended up waiting about 50 min over my pick-up time, lol. I wasn't in a rush anywhere, so didn't mind, and staff (owners?) were super friendly (and literally running around), but it was a little disorganized, as I followed their instructions to wait in the car and await their return phone call, but saw others coming and going from the store, getting their orders. After waiting a little over 30 min in the car, I decided to go into the store to wait like others were doing instead of waiting for that phone call. I do think this helped, as there was another customer ahead of me waiting for their order, but I was given my order first since I most likely had an earlier pick-up time. It's light, decadent, and a unique twist for cake flavors. I also love love love the durian mochi which has a light mochi wrap filled with fresh durian and light whipped cream. The durian cake box is also another hit. Regardless of what you get here, you're guaranteed to love the cake you choose and you will receive friendly customer service with a smile! I am really into durian and am so glad I found this place! The place is located off of a major road, and has spacious parking. They have a couple sitting areas in the front. I got the durian mochi balls and the durian crepe cakes. Both have very strong durian taste. The crepe cake is light and fluffy and the mochi soft and chewy. I also really like their selection of cakes: molten, crepe and boxed cakes. They have few classics like strawberry, tiramisu, matcha, but also other more adventurous flavors like sesame chocolate, orange pistachio, or caramel jasmine avocado, and red bean peanut. Staff is friendly and efficient. They do not inscribe the cake, but I ended up adding raspberries to my durian and I think the combination turned out well together. Ordered a birthday cake - half earl grey crepe cake and half oolong tea crepe cake. Was very excited because we love crepe cakes and especially love tea flavors which are not super easy to find. The cake looked promising but upon taking our first bite, we were shocked because it tasted like NOTHING. I literally thought I had Covid... there was no earl grey or oolong flavor at all. In fact, I couldn't even taste ANY cream... it felt like I was eating a flavorless crepe filled with flavorless cream. Needless to say, we ended up tossing about 95% of the cake away.... which was disappointing considering the cake was not cheap ($88). Had to get a last minute cake for my family's Easter brunch and WhaT's More cake delivered. I went with a 5 inch Orange Pistachio molten cake and a 5 inch Jasmine Avocado molten cake. Both were very good and what's more important was that they were not very sweet, unlike other store bought cakes. It was enough for a family of 8 and we even had a couple of slices left over. It was our wedding anniversary and my lovely husband surprised me with two cakes from this cake store that I have been following on IG (I have loved their chic and artistic cake designs): passion fruit box cake and early grey crepe cake. If I had only tried passion fruit box cake, I would have given it 4.5 stars (4.5 or 5 for taste but minus 0.5 because of the price). It was smooth, fruity, refreshing and not too sweet. Even after three days in the fridge, it was still very fresh. However, the crepe cake couldn't be worse. Its probably the worst crepe that I have ever had and I consider myself a huge crepe cake fan. The presentation is very nice and the layers look very thin. But when you eat it, you can literally taste nothing but cream -- and not a very tasty kind. There's no sweetness or cake flavor. Only a very thick creamy texture. I immediately want to toss it out after the first bite, but considering it's $38 for half of the cake, I tried a few more times on the same day and the day after. It never got better. We ended up tossing most of it. The price of the cake is even higher than Lady M considering it's small size. TBH, I don't think I will ever go back for the crepe cake. read more

Got a boba cake. It's like a lava cake with tea flavor and boba in the middle! It that tasted exactly like a jasmine boba with a salty foam in cake form! There's also boba in the middle! It was delicious, but obviously does not store well due to the boba. So I suggest if you get this cake, make sure there's enough people to eat all the cake in one-go!
