WheatFields is a really excellent spot with some standout items, especially if you've got a sweet tooth. Overall, we had a great meal, and I'd definitely come back. I ordered Ron's Chicken & Rhubarb Pie for $16.99; you get three pieces of honey-fried chicken (drumstick, thigh, and breast); mashed potatoes with gravy, a buttered bun, and a generous slice of rhubarb pie. The fried chicken was excellent, and the honey added a nice touch. The mashed potatoes were okay but tasted like they were instant, and the roll could've been just a bit bigger. That said, the rhubarb pie absolutely stole the show--perfectly balanced, not bitter at all, and honestly the best rhubarb pie I've had. My wife Laura had the Frenchman's Quiche Combo for $17.99, which includes a slice of deep-dish Quiche Lorraine with hollandaise, French onion soup, and a warm croissant with grape jelly. The quiche was fluffy with a flaky crust, and the bacon and sauce really brought it together. The French onion soup was outstanding--packed with onions and rye croutons, easily one of the best we've had outside of New Orleans. The croissant was spot-on as well. The restaurant itself was clean, and the bakery area smelled incredible--loaded with pastries and cakes that clearly get a lot of care and attention. The bathrooms were passable, though there was a slight unpleasant odor in the men's room. Service was fine--our waitress was polite and efficient, just a bit on autopilot. Pricing for the restaurant felt fair for what you get, though the bakery items leaned a little pricey. Still, between the quality of the food--especially the baked goods--and the overall experience, this is a great place to eat in Omaha. read more

The latte I ordered was just okay and came in a to-go cup despite dining in, which felt a bit odd. I had the quiche and French onion soup. I would say the quiche was nothing crazy, but I really enjoyed the soup. Good flavor and healthy portions! Service was good, she was very attentive and understood the menu well. I ordered the Butcher Shoppe Quiche which comes with a Struedel and a side of baked apples. For my Struedel, I choose Blueberry. It was served with fresh, housemade whipped cream -- totally delectable! The quiche was great too, with plenty of chunked ham and a good-sized sausage. The accompanying hollandaise sauce was terrific to boot! My wife had the Omaha's French Dip. We used to come in here in December to see Santa and have an amazing breakfast. No Santa on this December day. Kids were disappointed. They weren't really busy, but it took quite a while for us to get our drinks. Daughter's coffee was very weak as was my iced tea- - when I got a refill I asked for no ice and it was still very weak. Her 2nd cup of coffee was better. Kids meals are eight dollars and do not include a drink. That seems to be pretty standard and they were good. One had the waffle, one had the French toast and one had the eggs, bacon and muffin. My daughter ordered the breakfast wrap and had a cinnamon roll on the side. She said it was good - - just a bit dry on the corner. My scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese was really good. It came with a big slice of Christmas roll, which I knew the children would enjoy. I recently went to Wheatfields to purchase desserts, so I cannot speak to the food served in the restaurant. I purchased the strawberry wedding cake and chocolate chip cookie for myself, my mom had the German Chocolate cake, my grandma had the chocolate cake, and my brother had the coconut cream pie. In my opinion, they just keep falling short on hot menu items, the bakery items are actually really good. This last time, I got what was a poor attempt at apple crepes and it was simply horrible, the crepes were thick and it was like they took a can of apples and poured them on the crepes.. just not a good experience overall... My son wanted to come to wheat fields for their cob salad. The restaurant wasn't very busy so we were seated right away. We recieved our drinks and sat for 15 minutes before asking to have our waitesss return to our table to take our meal order. Another waitress came to take our order. She was pretty good. She apologies a couple times for the wait and inconvenience. My son liked his Cobb salad and cinnamon roll. I ordered the fried chicken and apple crisp. The chicken was not fresh. It was greasy. I told my son we need to find another restaurant that has a good Cobb salad. I gave the waitress that finally took our order a good tip. The meal was around $45 plus tip . Not worth it. read more

I don't think all of the COSTCO's in the world could supply enough sugar and flour to this place. anyways, i ordered an $8 cup of soup. I went to Wheatsfield with a friend to get cinnamon rolls and got the gluten free one. It was great! The service was quick and the cinnamon rolls were huge and about 6 dollars a piece. It can be hard to find gluten free cinnamon rolls so it was a fun place to try while I was in Omaha! They have a large parking lot making it easy to park. I didn't ask about other gluten free options so I am not sure if their other breakfast items were safe. read more

Waiter wasn't at all friendly - my breakfast was supposed to include bacon but it arrived without; when I asked about, "Sure, I can bring you some"like it was an ala carte item. When he asked if he could fill the water glass of one member of our table and that member passed, he left the table without asking the other three and never returned with water. And when my wife asked for a container for her leftovers, he passed it just a couple of inches from my face! Food was good but pricey, and the acoustics are horrible - very loud, even with the restaurant not that crowded. My husband and I went for breakfast this morning and really had a great experience. We were seated almost immediately and greeted by our waiter within in minutes of being seated. He was very nice. It was busy, and the tables are a little close together, but it wasn't a dealbreaker. I saw they had the sunroom open, but it didn't appear that they were seating people there yet. It looks like a nice room though! The food was delicious. I ordered a super duper amazingly good latte called the Eiffel Tower Latte. It had caramel and hazelnut. So good! My chicken and waffles was super good. My husband ordered a stratta that he was a huge fan of. We didn't leave a crumb on the plate! We arrived at about 10:45 am. Our service was a bit slow with only a handful of people in the restaurant. We were given a booth in desperate need of some new padding. The coils were not very comfy on the butt. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy with two eggs over easy. I ordered the dussledorf potatoes. My potatoes were nice and crispy, just the way I like it. Tried the new location at 192 and Maple in Omaha today. I did not realize it was drive-thru service only. I went into the store. There were no employees visible. I heard someone talking and there was an employee talking with someone via headset (assuming a customer at the outside menu-board). I picked out some dessert stuff, brought it up to the counter and waited. The above-mentioned employee came out of the back, walked right past me like I was invisible, and proceeded to look around for something before disappearing again. There was no acknowledgement I was there, nothing like "hey, I'll be right out to help you". I waited some more, and the employee came back out to the main room, cut a piece of cinnamon roll from the looks of it, and disappeared again. I was getting tired of waiting, so I put my stuff back where I found it, and left. If it is drive-thru service only, please list it on the front door of the establishment. When I drove back onto Maple, I glanced over at the drive thru; no one was at the menu-board, and no one at the pick-up window either. Food was poor. The service was lacking. The facilities were dirty. I'm writing more because there is a minimum character count.

I wonder if being an older woman dining alone affects service in some restaurants. I don't know if that was the reason I was ignored for so long after finishing my lunch or not. The waiter walked past me multiple times, not looking my way at all so I couldn't get his attention. I finally pushed my plate and napkin to the middle of the table and looked at my phone for awhile. Then he came with the bill and I had to request the strudel. I had a good lunch prior to that. The quiche Lorraine was a huge portion-- enough for two people. It's been awhile since I had it here and I think it might be a different recipe, but I still liked it. With such a big serving, it was too rich, so of course I have the rest to look forward to later. It came with a piece of strudel, also huge. I don't know if there was a fruit choice, but I took home the giant portion of cherry strudel to have for breakfast tomorrow. The menu appears to be paired down from what it used to be, but the bakery is as abundant as ever. I had hoped to get the little Swiss hotel salad, but the salad listed on the menu had chicken and was bigger than the little one so I skipped it.
