I had an absolutely awesome meal here with friends. I started off with some Brussel sprouts, which were absolutely delicious - cooked to perfection, with a delightful aioli glaze, ricotta, sunflower seeds, and aioli. The portion was also generous for an appetizer and easily split among 2-3 people. The bone-in pork chop was also awesome, fat, juicy, and tender, perfectly charred on the outside. There were some fattier bits, but definitely enough meat to compensate. The succotash (corn/lima beans) and thin apple slices complemented the pork chop well. The Jessica wabbit juice was refreshing with a bubbly tropical flavor, and it was also reasonably priced (less than $6, hard to find in the juicing world nowadays). I also tried my friend's mac and cheese, and wow, it was probably the best mac and cheese I've had, smothered with cheese that hit the sweet spot between savory and rich, and some breadcrumbs to add to the texture. For dessert, I split some whiskey cake and whipped cream with a friend. Even from someone that isn't a dessert lover, this literally took the cake and is a must-have! Rich with glazed pecans and homemade whipped cream, this is one of those desserts that will remain imprinted in my memory for awhile. This place is a knockout! We came here for dinner and it was wonderful! We ordered drinks to start, the guys got beer and the ladies ordered a whiskey beverage. Then we moved on to appetizers. Our group went with the goat cheese fondue (SO GOOD!) and the Charcuterie Board (yummy!). My sister and I decided to have a late lunch on a Friday, and there was a bit of a wait...30-35 minutes but we were seated and our waiter Jonathan was super polite and told us some new menu items! We ordered the chicken and waffles + and the pork sliders with a side of fries. DELISH!!!! The chicken was crispy and the waffles were soft and chewy with just the right texture. The pork sliders were yummy too, and loved the added crunch from the crispy onion strings! Service was pretty good, but I did find myself wanting a few things and the server hadn't come by as frequently as I would've liked, and the hostesses that greeted us and walked us to our table were not very friendly. Whiskey Cake is a unique restaurant. It is very spacious with a rustic feel. The service is always great. It is clear that the employees have knowledge about the menu and the restaurant. I believe the majority, if not all, of the food is sourced locally. That being said, the menu items are updated often and can lead to some of the foods being hit or miss even if you order the same thing each time. For example, I have ordered deviled eggs here on three separate occasions, and they have had different toppings each time. I had 4pm early dinner with a friend and we decided on Whiskey Cake. The service was great and compliments to LaShondria who made our dining experience amazing. We were seated inside but asked if we could sit outside because we were cold and she quickly moved us with no problem. She suggested the deviled eggs and the fried mushroom sandwich which were amazing. Fried tomatoes came out hot and delicious. My friend ordered the OMG burger which is always a favorite! For dessert we had the Whiskey Cake..WOW SO GOOD! In Houston on business and thought I would give Whiskey Cake Kitchen a try. We arrived shortly after 6 PM to a light dinner crowd. Enjoyed the ambience the moment I walked in the front door. Our waiter missed the mark on a few things. I can overcome not getting a steak knife with my steak or a decent amount of time after we're done eating to even see our waiter to get a check. Not the best service I've had from a nice steakhouse in the past. The chili duck wings were great. Just what I expected. My ribeye had too much fat and was overcooked on one end of the steak leaving it dry. It also lacked seasoning. It's a sad day when I enjoy my side, dish of macaroni and cheese more than the steak. We did enjoy the vast whiskey selection. We went off the typical whiskeys and tried some different things. A coffee whiskey was more like cough syrup. I don't typically give chains five stars but I can't help it here. I first checked out Whiskey Cake in San Antonio many years ago. Since then, they have expanded to Houston. I've visited their location in Webster a couple of times and stopped by their Katy location for the first time on a Friday for dinner. Whiskey Cake is a huge restaurant and it was packed on a Friday evening. Luckily, the patio had some open seating so we were seated there without a wait. While it was outside and pretty chilly out, the heat lamps and a fireplace did the trick. Before I get to the food, I have to touch on the A+ service. I can't remember our waiter's name but he was friendly and efficient. You can't ask for anything more in a waiter. Instead of a full course meal, we decided to share a bunch of appetizers including the deviled eggs, goat cheese fondue, the thick cut candied bacon, and the fried green tomatoes. They change their deviled eggs every week and this week's edition was the healthy kind with red peppers and kale. Not my favorite mix but I appreciated the creativity. The rest of the apps were spot-on, though. You can't really mess up some fried green tomatoes and these didn't disappoint either. The real standouts were the candied bacon, which truly was thick cut, and came with a delicious dipping sauce. I've never dipped my bacon in anything but it worked. The goat cheese fondue was also fantastic and came with some toasted bread. All-around, everything you want in a dining experience. Great food, great service, and nice ambiance. read more

Food was 3/5 but whiskey cake, as expected of the signature dish, was 5/5 which elevated the whole dining experience. - Beet juice and carrot juice were both very refreshing, although the carrot one was lighter and easier to drink while the beet flavor was quite strong in the beet juice and I couldn't smell or taste the yuzu at all. - Wagyu chili bowl was salty and definitely cannot be eaten by itself. - Chicken and waffle was standard. Chicken was tender while waffle was buttery and soft. - Grain bowl gives me mixed feelings. All of ingredients sound delicious but the flavor doesn't work out so well when put together. Lamb meatballs were great but the pickled beets were too tangy and the roasted chickpeas were too hard to eat so every bite felt off-balanced. One thing I can say for sure though is that the portion were very generous for both entrees so you will not be leaving hungry. - I don't think the whiskey cake needs any review for I have yet to hear a bad review from anyone. Every single part of the cake, from the cake itself to the sauces at the bottom to the homemade whip cream to the candied pecans - were delectable. I recognized all of the brands from Balcones to Basil Hayden (my fave) so naturally I had to indulge myself. Loved sipping the four different kinds of whiskey throughout dinner. So the candied bacon is something to rave about. We had it as an appetizer and it started the night off deliciously. I really liked the sweetness of the BBQ lime aioli. Next we ordered Turkey Burger and Rotisserie Chicken Kale Salad. The Turkey Burger was devoured and the Rotisserie Chicken Kale Salad came in an ample portion. Their sorghum vinaigrette dressing was just so tasty! I wanted to order something light since I was mainly excited for the dessert part. Do not sleep on the Whiskey Cake! I don't know if it was the bourbon anglaise, spiced pecans on top, or house made vanilla whipped cream but it is probably the top five restaurant desserts for me. The hummus was smooth and as good as any Middle Eastern eateries. For entres, we went with grilled salmon with quinoa, roasted chicken with cauliflower fragula, and chicken melt sandwich. Wife said salmon was overcooked and dry. The quinoa was ok. Friend said that chicken was moist but under seasoned. The cauliflower fragula was inedible. So this is really 3.5 stars but I'll give them the benefit and round up. The atmosphere is cool. Feels casual but nice still with rustic touches and industrial light fixtures. As the name indicates, great selection of whiskey and bourbon. We started with deviled eggs and candied bacon. Both were delicious. I had one of their mixed drinks and it was also very good - a pineapple something or another. I had the short ribs and they were very good. My complaint is that the carrots were very crisp, barely cooked. Our whole table felt similarly about the vegetables- carrots and green beans were barely cooked and much too crisp. The Gouda Mac and cheese was just okay. The kids meals were served on these big red plastic trays. Nice that they have a kids option, but the big red trays felt like we were at a Denny's or a cafeteria. Overall good food, but some room for improvement. read more
