Came in for afternoon lunch with my husband earlier today, it had been years since the last time we were here so it was very refreshing to be eating such tasteful food once again ! We made a reservation through OpenTable for 9:45 on a Friday night and found the place pretty busy. We were seated immediately and our server, David, greeted us quickly and brought our waters and took a drink order. Sampling a couple of their craft cocktails, we started with the Arrosto Misto, Deviled Eggs, and Local Goat Cheese Fondue. The roasted vegetables were incredible; hands down the best I've ever eaten. The deviled eggs were very good with plenty of bacon, and the fondue was tasty. For entrees, we opted for Whiskey Braised Short Rib, Mesquite Grilled Salmon, and Chicken & Waffle. All of these offerings were delicious and it's hard to find a favorite among them. We finished up with one of their famous Whisky Cakes and a seasonal pumpkin cheese cake, the perfect ending to a fabulous meal. After our meal, we expressed our pleasure with our server who explained the food is locally-sourced and seasonal. With our experience here and the quality of food and service, we'll definitely be stopping back in for another attack on their menu to see what's new and a slice of that Whisky Cake. read more

Whiskey Cake has a nice ambiance, good service, and good drinks, but the main dishes missed the mark this time. This was my second visit to Whiskey Cake and things have seemed to be going in the wrong direction. The fried green tomatoes are worth it. The tomatoes are fresh and the batter leaves the tomatoes with a nice texture with a light crunch. My wife got the ribeye, mac n cheese and the orzo. She ended up sending the orzo back, the mac n cheese lacked flavor, and she said she's purchased better quality ribeye's from H‑E‑B. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich and opted for the fries instead of the kettle chips. The hot chicken sandwich lacked flavor and was disappointing, but the fries did not disappoint. The fries were seasoned well and great to eat without any dipping sauce. I went here a few months ago and thought the food tasted amazing! I wanted to take the time to post a review since it's a good place for some good food and other people posted some bad reviews about the restaurant. I think the atmosphere is pretty unique and quite nice. It's worth checking out if you're looking for a bite to eat. I ordered the beet juice and the entree was the salmon w/a side salad. The food came out great and the waitress was friendly and brought out the food in a timely manner. Additionally, the restaurant was clean and tables were clean (always a good thing). Really neat set-up I liked the layout it feels very homey inside kind of like being at granny's farm house only with a steampunk touch to it. Service was great our waitress Alexis was really nice offered lots suggestions to must try drinkable and dishes. Checked on us every couple mins she vlwas very helpful. The food was great we ordered the local board and some drinks they all came out really quick and tasted awesome. Beautiful environment! Definitely aesthetically pleasing and smells delicious in the foyer when you enter, they have their custom whiskey candles burning ....smells amazing! Katy was our server and she was very knowledgeable about the menu, and the manager Aaron was excellent and shared with us the amazing details of how the whiskey cake is prepared. We tried the cake for the first time, my parents and myself absolutely loved it! So rich and delicious! My mother is not easily impressed when we go out to eat, but she was impressed by this cake! My mother hinted to my Dad that she would like the whole whiskey cake for her birthday. We learned this cake will also come with oven instructions if cake is bought as a whole for to go (and toppings will come on the side). Yum! The food here was refreshing and unique. I really loved the pickled grapes in my Roasted Cauliflower salad, so did my parents. We learned the grapes were pickled with cinnamon/orange peel etc etc. Super unique and creative menu! They are in the process of updating their menu and will have an updated one by June 7th, 2022. First time we went to whiskey cake I absolutely loved it...we went 3 times in one month. They changed the menu up a bit, and we didn't get the terrific service we were getting in the first few visits...so my opinion of the place changed, my wife still loves it....but meh ‍ They have a nice make it yourself Bloody Mary bar, a decent selection of craft beers, and of course, tons of whiskey. I was excited to try this place based on the reviews. It was quite a let down, I must say. Our waitress was great but that is the only thing. Decor: If you look up at the lights, the wires are covered in dust, which means eventually it will trickle down in the food. The booths were already torn and peeling off, for such a new place. Food: We ordered the duck wings for an appetizer. You get 3 for $13.50. One had hardly any meat but the problem was how much sauce was on them! They basically dumped two cups of sauce on three drumsticks. My husband ordered the steak frites $27 and I ordered the chicken and cheese sandwich $13.50 w/ fries (extra $3). My husbands steak was cook medium but he said it tasted like the grill hasn't been properly cleaned. It had a burnt grill char on it. My sandwich was fine, the toast was a little over toasted but the $3 fries I ordered were cold. I sent them back and then got a pot of shoelace bits but they were warm. Overall, for a $60+ meal, there are far too many better restaurants out there for the price. read more

Heard about Whiskey Cake from a family friend who lives up in the DFW area. Tried to go there when I was in the area only to find a two hour wait. So, I ordered the signature Whiskey Cake togo and ate it on my tailgate in the parking lot. Since then, this restaurant chain has expanded to San Antonio and Houston. Finally had the chance to dine at the Katy area location after a long weekend of shopping with my wife near the Galleria. Nice touch that all menu items are available even during brunch so there was alot to choose from. We started out with two appetizers. First was the cheddar and jalapeno drop biscuits. Bacon and sausage flavored gravy with plenty of sage. Next would be the goat cheese fondue. Well, sort of. No melted cheese here folks so we'll call it a play on the dish. Basically a ice cream scoop of goat cheese surrounded by assorted olive segments and then the ramekin was filled with olive oil. Bread that accompanied the dish spent a little time over the mesquite giving it an amazing flavor. The majority of the apps made the trip back to Driftwood for breakfast the next day. My burger was cooked to my specs and served with flavorful chips. Wife's B.E.L.T possibly could have suffered from too much bread. Slices were over an inch thick top and bottom and she left more than half on the plate. Kudos for baking on sight; excellent interior and vibe. French press coffee too which my wife loves. Only reason I'm not awarding a full 5 star rating is our server had trouble keeping my tea glass filled. Hopefully WC will expand to ATX soon. read more

Updated review... The last three meals at Whiskey Cake have been train wrecks. I can't give them a forth try. I still may come to Whiskey Cake for that hard to find whiskey, bourbon or scotches. I could add to that a light snack like their deviled eggs or onion dip. However I am staying away from the mains. It seems the kitchen can't figure out how to get a hot meal to a table. Or even a consistent one. It also seems the management's sole remedy to these hiccups is to give away free Whiskey Cake deserts. Although the desert is a nice offering, I normally I feel better if I avoid sweets. Note to staff: there is no excuse for delivering cold food to a table. read more

Was very excited to try this place! We came in on a Friday night- it was busy but we were seated immediately for a table of 3 (we sat on the high tables). Our waiter was friendly and attentive as well as helpful with any of our questions! For appetizers, we ordered the Roasted Butternut Turmeric Hummus and it was DELICIOUS. It consisted of roasted squash, olive oil, gremolata, served with vegetables (radish, cucumber, purple cauliflower, carrots) and sourdough bread. It's extra $2 if ordered with bread and vegetables, so it's either or for no charge. The hummus tasted great and I'm glad that we got to try it! I highly recommend this appetizer! For my entrée, I ordered the Beyond Meat burger. It was pretty good but was not sure what the "meat" consisted of. It came with grain mustard, mustard seed mayo, marmalade, mizuna, tomato, muenster cheese, and a wheat bun. I also ordered avocado and pesto mayo on the side. The dish comes with kettle chips but I subbed it for fries for $3. The fries were okay, I've had better. The ketchup (mustard seed ketchup) that comes with the fries is spicy (not very spicy like Whataburger spicy ketchup) and is good. The place is a little expensive with all the extra charges but I will come back here again and try something else. read more

My mom and I were getting a bit hungry so we ordered some food that I highly recommend for you to try! I had the Pulled Pork Sliders which also had apple slaw in it, I'm not one for slaw but, man oh man did it make a difference! It definitely is a must have on their menu. My mom had their Chicken and Cheese Melt, another recommendation, which she completely loved and said that it was another must have. We were advised to not finish all our food as the staff was telling us how we need to make sure to try the Whiskey Cake, I mean how can you not try what the restaurant is actually named after. Literally horrendous service!! Over priced awful drinks. 16$ for a well martini! Pretty ridiculous. They tried to seat us behind a family where chairs where touching back to back.. asked to move and hostess looked at me like I was insane. For many years I have mainly indulged in the special entrees or happy hour menu here, but they make great salads as well. I was fully prepared to experience food envy when my friends' chicken and waffle + burger and fries came out, but this salad was seriously so delicious and filling that I had to write a follow up review to give it a shout out. INTRO: One of the newer restaurants in the Katy area that is close by to katy asian town! I had high hopes for this place since the interior.. omg don't get me started. Exposed brick, low lighting, and a hugeee display of liquor along the back wall when you walk in. Let's dig in! FOOD: For starters, my family and I got the fried green tomatoes and the arrosto misto. The fried tomatoes were SUPER hot and had to wait a but to eat but they were crispy and the sauce that came with it was soo good. The roasted veggies consisted of brocollini, carrots, squash, etc and they had the perfect amount of char to it and came with candied cashews! Who would have thought? I thought it was sooo good. Next, came the entrees and the descriptions were promising but then we were pretty dissapointed. My dad got the braised short ribs and he makes them at home for us all the time and he can eat a lot. Sadly, his meal only came with 2-3 short ribs that were smol and a HUGE heaping of spaghetti squash. My stepmom got the Texas Red Fish and enjoyed her meal very much and I thought it was really good too. I got the Rotisserie Farm Bird and it. was. massive. I knew the description said "half a chicken" but I didn't know it was just going to be on a plate, bone in. It was super hard to take the meat off while in this rounded plate and on top of a heaping pile of brussel sprouts. I thought it was pretty good.. except that I wish there were different sides beside the brussel sprouts. I became pretty bored with this monotone meal. I'd prefer the chicken sliced, good amount of brussel sprouts and then mashed potatoes or something to cut the two tone meal. My dad thought the same thing with his meal. You can only go back and forth so may times and everything just tastes the same. I eventually brought my food home because there was so much and I ate the chicken and brussel sprouts with rice. Made it so mucb better. For dessert we got the famous whiskey cake. We decided to just bring it home and ate it there. So good. Just- get it. It tasted like sticky toffee cake with caramelized pecans on top, a white creme sauce that you can pour over, and homemade whipped cream. Every bite just melted in your mouth! OVERALL: I'm not sure how I feel about this place yet.. I think the saving grace was the famous whiskey cake. The portions were not very.. proportional? There was also a lack of variety in the entrees like how there was the protein.. and then the side. Just one side. Last night was great! We went at 5:45 and no wait but leaving a few people waiting. The chicken sandwich was so yummy! I worry about chicken being too tough or try but it was perfect! The service was very good and the waitress was very attentive. We were too full to eat the whiskey cake then so she made a package for us to take home and told me exactly how to put it together later. If you're not a whiskey person I didn't taste any in the cake . It was the most delicious cake I've had in ages!! I can't rave about this restaurant enough! The vibes in here are so welcoming, so fresh, they've got mood lighting and everything creates the perfect atmosphere for having a great time! I LOVE the bar - shelves from bar to ceiling to see all their product with awesome back lighting. Bartenders are fabulous! Food frequently changes based on what is locally available and I love this concept. You are never 100% sure what will be available but EVERYTHING is amazing! I especially recommend the deviled eggs - I've never had the same recipe twice and they all are mouth watering! I will say, I don't prefer the restrooms - its one huge room, men and women with an area to wash in the middle. Delicious. No other words are needed. But since yelp wants an 85 character review, fine. The food was amazing, we had the deviled eggs, the goat cheese fondue, hummus to start. Everything was delicious but my person fav has to be the goat cheese fondue, the olives with tomatoes in warm goat cheese atop bread was to die for. For mains we had the rotisserie farm bird, whiskey braised short rib and crispy chicken&spinach salad. Everything was amazing but the table agreed the short rib was the winner above all else. We also had some drinks of which were good, the WC cold brew was okay but with all the food it didn't mix well, should have stuck with my first drink. I don't remember the name but damn was it good, it was some kind of guava with pineapple rum drink. Get it if you figure out the name. Save room for whiskey cake. Whiskey Cake is a Great Venue for Private Parties!! Had such a fabulous evening in early November at Whiskey Cake Katy thanks to Madison, Cassie, and Paul, plus the fabulous servers for the evening. My family planned the evening to celebrate my 60th birthday. We hosted fifty guests with cocktails, appetizers and a full seated dinner on the beautiful and very private patio area, with the fireplace ablaze adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. What a great event space this was! Food was delicious (as always), and the cocktail, wine and beer choices were awesome. We had plenty of room to mingle and with the friendly and responsive servers, we were so very well taken care of. A fun party to remember and a great place to host an event!
