Let me start by saying that it takes a lot to ruin a meal. We had a party of 7, seated outside and in no rush whatsoever. This was a live-band evening (that didn't start for another 30 minutes), but our waitress was completely inept, tried to '5-second stop' by our table every 20 minutes. Of the things she couldn't do correctly: Drinks identified wrong and given to the wrong people, two different appetizers never arrived, Bacon on a vegan salad, multiple dinner items arrived 10-15 minutes after everyone else was served, and NOT A SINGLE APOLOGY.. I have been here before for a drink and never tried the food. Boy, was I missing out! I had the Dirty South Burger and the flavors were spot on. It is a bunless burger topped with bacon jam, fried green tomato and red pepper caesar dressing. My friend ordered the root beer braised brisket. I don't really like rootbeer, but tried the dish and was amazed at how flavorful it was. The root beer is cooked down so it becomes very sweet and compliments the dish very well. Went in. Sign said wait to be seated. Waited at least 5 minutes before someone acknowledged us and told us to sit anywhere we wanted. Ordered drinks. Took a while to get them. Slow service. One of the entrees wrong. Tried to send back and get the correct order. Told us that kitchen was closed. They "made it right" by charging us the lesser price of the item we had ordered. The incorrect item was not eaten except for a few bites, when it was realized that was not what was ordered. My entree (chicken Parmesan sandwich) was mediocre at best. When I asked server why we were being charged, server asked us if we wanted to talk to manager, but we declined. Server kept making excuse that they had just been hired there recently. Server was pleasant, but this was unacceptable that we were being charged. We have been to this establishment several times before but have had similar experiences here in the past. Horrible, horrible, horrible service. We went to this place for a college football game and sat on the back patio. The only reason we didn't get up and leave was because we were hanging out with friends. It took us 45 minutes to get drinks to our table and the waitress told us it would be faster if we went to the bar ourselves and paid cash. I had ordered a Sprite, not anything from the bar:/ It took about 2.5 hours for us to receive our food, during which time we all contemplated ordering to go from Outback Steakhouse across the street so we could eat. The food was actually delicious and not reflective of the service at all, which is the only reason they got a second star! A couple from the table walked on their bill after being there for 3 hours and the waitress showing up maybe once an hour to our table. Once the rest of the party paid (our bills ranged from $50-$75 per couple for food and drinks) and we were getting ready to leave, the manager and owner were brought out and wanted us to call the couple to come back and pay their bill. After management informed us their bill was $12, we laughed at them and told them about our horrible service and clearly, they had paid cash at the bar for all of their drinks after the first round. There were lots of excuses for the terrible service, but no apologies. Needless to say, they dropped the issue with the $12 and none of us have been back! read more

Was staying at a nearby hotel while in town for a conference and walked over to Whiskey Jax to check it out. The service and atmosphere were great. The food was very good and the drink specials were definitely worth it. What really blew me away though was the atmosphere. I was expecting more of a bar type setting but was pleased to see a very laid back atmosphere. Nothing bar like more like an upscale pub. They even had a kids menu. The live entertainment was a singer playing blues and even a bluegrass style of reggae. He was extremely talented and certainly out of the ordinary in a good way. Whiskey Jax is one of my favorite places to relax after a long week. The Blue Cheese Chips with extra Balsamic is my starter of choice. I usually can't decide between the WJ burger and the Cast Iron Grouper. Both are fabulous and I choose one or the other depending on my mood. I can always relax here... The trivia on Monday evenings is especially fun. I find the wait staff attentive and I usually get stellar service. Everyone seems to pitch in to keep things moving. The live entertainment is the piece that sets Whiskey Jax apart. Unique local acts are the usual here and I always enjoy the different artists. Ask Reid for a whiskey recommendation, and ask Eric which nightly special is the one to try. You won't be disappointed. These guys are doing it all right. read more

Wow thought I would actually find a good gastro pub and enjoy a good steak... Epic failure. Maybe my expectations are being high coming from the Midwest. First we were seated and waited 10 minutes for our server to come over and greet us ( the place was dead) Bangin shrimp for the app was the star, but not great. It lacked flavors, was just deep fried and tossed in a generic Thai sweet chili sauce The ribeye was cooked ok, it was tough, bland and the risotto was absolutely terrible. This was our first time at Whiskey Jax and I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much for some reason. It's located in a strip mall on Baymeadows and was much larger than it looked from the outside, which was a pleasant surprise. We were seated right away and given an opportunity to review the menu. Our server was extremely helpful and suggested his favorite dishes. He even helped create a drink for one of our dinner mates. When I looked over the menu, I honestly didn't find anything that I really cared for. I thought the choices were a bit pretentious and over glorified for what they were and where we were. Overly complicated burgers and other entrees. I wound up going with steak taco's with a side of fries that were good, but the steak was a bit chewy and fries were over salted. My husband had a rib eye steak and collard greens on the side. He barely ate the collard greens as they were overly salty. He also didn't care for the steak. Our dinner mates seemed to enjoy their meals. I gave an extra star for service and meal plating otherwise this would have been just a solid three star dining experience. We won't be back. read more

A couple of my buddies were in town just for the night in St Patty's Day. So we just decided to give this local Pub a try. It was no surprise they were extremely crowded, but we were seated quickly. The service was phenomenal, our waiter was on top of his game. We never had to ask for a water refill, and promptly asked if we wanted another beer. The food was excellent. They were running a special menu for St Patty's Day and it did not disappoint. Our appetizer was Irish Egg rolls, sauerkraut and corned beef. Two of my friends had the Shepherd's Pie, another had the Ruben and I had fish and chips. Everyone ranted and raved about how they enjoyed the food. The icing on the cake was the ambiance. Had the Kitchen Sink burger, there was so much stuff going on I forgot what I was eating halfway through, you'd have though it would verge on too much, but it was very good. Was hoping for a much better experience!! The restaurant has great Happy Hour prices - a $5 Grey Goose Martini - score!! That and the Whiskey Blue Chips were the highlight of our visit this last Monday however. The restaurant was pretty empty, other than the bar. They had a musician playing who had a great voice, but the music was loud enough for a football stadium concert! We asked the waitress if there was anyway they could have him turn down the volume, and ordered drinks. While waiting for the drinks, we could barley hear each other across the table (the restaurant is an open space, so the volume was the same no matter where you sat). The volume wasn't lowered. We told the waitress that we decided to leave after the drink because it was just too loud. She said several others left earlier for the same reason. Soon after that the manger or owner came by, He was certainly friendly enough, and we told him why we were leaving. He did say they had asked the musician to turn down the volume, but spoke to him again. They did finally turn it down just enough so we could at least talk to each other. Because they listened to our concern, we decided to stay for dinner. We ordered the Whiskey Blue chips to start, which were actually great - absolutely no complaints there. I ordered the stuffed chicken. Unfortunately, it was very dry. It's suppossed to be breaded with chorizo/panko but it had not outstanding flavor. It's also supposed to be finished with Bacon Jam and Red Wine Bordelaise, but you'd be hard pressed to taste it. The seasonal vegetables were grilled - to a charcoaled crisp. Others at the table had Kentucky Fire Porkchop; said it was decent, but the same issue with the veggies, and the Poke Tacos were a decent choice. Price wise, it's all very reasonable, but still needs work. They have a lot of work to do here. Hopefully they get it together. I think it's important to support local business and will chock it up to a rough night. We'll try it again, especially for the happy hour and apps. read more

Great place great atmosphere and great food. Our waitress was Kate and she was perfect and very tentative. I ordered the crab crusted mahi and it was delicious! Great creamy corn crab topping with a refreshing blackens lemon mahi fillet! The mashed red potatoes were perfect texture of mashed and chunky just the way I like the asparagus was a nice touch of a clean refreshing vegetable to compliment the dish. The serving size was just right to save some room for the midnight chocolate moose cake which was a good finish to a great meal. I ordered the sazarac as my drink it started out real smooth and got a bit harsh as it warmed up. I personally think that restaurants should go to the metal freezer cubes to put in drinks that don't have ice but that may just be a preference. Went there last night. Good food and service. It was nice to see that all the burgers were also offered in turkey. I would have given them a 5 except the burger was a bit cold and I had to send it back for a warm up. We had a variety of burgers and sandwiches and the shrimp artichoke did which was both warm and delicious. Smaller place, and they had a band setting up to start later in the evening. Adequate seating and we waited about 15 minutes. There was seating outside, but due the heat no one was using it. Everyone was happy with their food and service. Veronica is a sweetheart!! Whether or not I sit at the bar, the food always comes out fast and hot. I can see other people liking this restaurant but I did not. It was a nice atmosphere and the staff was helpful. However, my burger was disgusting, the Houdini burger I believe. The ingredients on the burger did not mix and I ordered it medium. It came well done. I'm not one to complain so I paid my bill and went to another restaurant afterwords to wash the taste out of my mouth. They have a lot of whiskey options although some might say it is over priced. My first time here was only rated poor to average due to the slow service, and a poorly trained waitress. Please don't assume everyone wants fries with their burger.... Ask nicely instead like..."What side would you like with your burger" and let your guests know there are several sides to choose from The dry and overcooked tacos severed to one of my friends didn't help either. Now to the positives.... My Houdini burger was excellent, great flavors and cooked perfectly medium rare. There were plenty of fries but next time I will know that there are other options to choose. It's not a typical burger combo that is served only with fries ....
