Then came the entree skillet with meats, mashed potato's, green beans and baked beans. The BBQ meats were excellent, smoky, tender, flavorful. None of it needed the sauce that was provided. Being all you can eat, I asked for a second skillet of just meat; the food was the complete opposite of the first, the brisket was sliced thick and dry. The pulled pork had little flavor. This is such a great BBQ restaurant. The staff is super attentive, very professional and friendly. The restaurant has a cozy warm atmosphere. The hotel itself is so beautiful and relaxing. The food here really is out of this world and I love coming here. I wish it was a little bit more affordable so I can come more often, but I like to keep this place for special occasions. Alright we came here as my Mamaw said it was good when she came years ago and it was so good and so much fun! If the majority of the table picks the same thing it is served family style and they bring a huge tray of food out for everyone to pick over! We all decided on the carnivore and oh my lord was it good. The cornbread before hand was delicious and wasn't dry at all. It came with Slow-smoked Pork Ribs, Oak-smoked Beef Brisket, Barbecued Pulled Pork, and Citrus-Herb Chicken. My favorite out of these was the chicken as that rub that was on it was phenomenal. The other meats were all equally as good though and all tasted great, were all juicy, and all of it was super tender. The corn was great and so were the potatoes. Our server was Wandering Wendy and she was amazing. She was super funny and was always popping jokes and poking fun at all of us. All of the servers once they came with the drinks drop a ton of straws and napkins on the table then precede to take your orders. They have shenanigans going on constantly but my favorite was the ketchup bit that kept happening. If a table needed ketchup the kids or table patrons had to travel to whatever table needed ketchup next then brought them all over and it was about 8-9 ketchups that kept travelling. One waiter had a huge Styrofoam cowboy hat and was super loud which I found funny. We had a wonderful experience at Whispering Canyon Cafe. Be sure to bring your appetite and a sense of humor. They are mostly known for the all you care to enjoy skillets which looked good but we decided to order other things. We came for breakfast and ended up ordering the Brisket Omelette, Belgian style waffles and the kids both got cheeseburgers. I like that even for breakfast they have other options. We ate here on our trip in March and it had taken until now for me to write this review because I can't stop thinking about our experience. Because of a boat delay I thought we might be late to our reservation so I called guest services who kindly pushed it back fifteen minutes. However, I had no idea this would put us within half an hour of closing (this is important) when we arrived there were about four other tables seated. One table was laughing hysterically at a server in a giant cowboy hat. I was so excited for my kids since silly, sarcastic humor is their favorite and they love to be teased and the center of attention --this was the only reason we traveled so far to come to this restaurant the anticipated not for our kids. When we say down our server greeted us with such attitude my husband and I laughed because we thought it was part of the show. I was super embarrassed a few minutes later when she glared at me and I realized she was just actually being rude. I was taken snack but figured she would still do the fun antics for the kids so I didn't say anything in front of them. After we ordered my husband told my son to ask for ketchup knowing what was next. My son was delighted when twenty ketchups arrived at our table. However, I then quipped in front of our server that he would need to bring them to another table if someone else asked for ketchup. She snapped at me "well you are the only table right now still eating so nobody is going to do that the only thing that will happen is I will need to now bring twenty ketchups back to the kitchen myself" I gave a nervous giggle but at this point even my kids picked up on it. When she left my sixteen year old said "mom I feel terrible we are making her day so hard maybe the three of us (kids) could carry them to the kitchen for her to help her out?" My husband drinks water super fast so another fun thing we were anticipating was having his water refilled in a huge glass. I was so disappointed when she slammed another regular size glass in front of him. The food was average barbeque and average breakfast. Nothing at all remarkable about the food. We only went for the silly and fun atmosphere and instead experienced the rudest service I have ever had. Thankful my nine year old thought the ketchup gag was really funny and talked about all the fun---which make me even sadder since the experience could have been magical. I choose not to say anything that day as I didn't want to cause even more uncomfortableness in our trip and we wanted to enjoy the rest of our day. I served for years so I get the struggles. However, there are a ton of places to work outside of Disney where fun and magic aren't expected as part of the experience. The only reason I am giving two stars is the family at the other table with the giant cowboy hat wearing gentlemen were having the time of their lives so maybe you will too. read more

So I was wandering around Disney property, doing some monorail bar hopping, and I decided to start my day with breakfast/brunch at the Whispering Canyon! Getting to the resort on the boat was a nice ride that I had never done before, actually, and then winding through the forest to get to the cafe was fun, too. So we get there, get seated, and get to the easy task of browsing the menu. The only correct choice of the AYCE Signature Skillets, one of each, was given to the server, and while I waited for them to arrive, I indulged on the sweetest sweet tea I have ever encountered. Take that as a tip, or a warning. Here are the Skillets: The Heritage (House-made Buttermilk-Cheddar Biscuits and Sausage Gravy with Scrambled Eggs, Country Potatoes, Hickory-smoked Bacon, Pork Sausage Links, Mickey-shaped Waffles). And.. The Carnivore (House-made Cornbread with Honey Butter, Maple-Chipotle Barbecued Slow-smoked Pork Ribs, Oak-smoked Beef Brisket, Barbecued Pulled Pork, Citrus-Herb Chicken, Country Potatoes, Buttered Corn, Charred Carrots). You get one plate with all of that stuff, and then you can re-order any amount of any of the components until you burst. Here are some highlights: Don't worry about the Biscuit; focus on that amazing Cornbread instead. Add some pepper to that Gravy. The Potatoes are absolutely stellar. Ask for more waffles. Ribs, ribs, ribs, very good ribs. The Brisket was an abomination to brisket. The Chicken was surprisingly good! Overall, this experience was five stars. Its been years since we have been here. My mom was never a fan because there is alot of shenanigans going on here with only so so food. Covid seems to have changed it. The food has gotten better, but the shenanigans have dampened a little bit. They now serve "all you care to eat" platters of BBQ. Its hard to screw up BBQ and this place didn't do that! All of our food was very good, especially the chicken and the corn! The ribs had a nice crust on it and cornbread is always a hit. My nephew got a hamburger which he liked as well! I kind of wished they brought back a little more of the fun including the racing horses. I remember the ketchup bit being a little funnier with multiple tables bringing ketchup to multiple places. Maybe because we were there for dinner it was a little emptier. Either way, fun restaurant in a fun resort. We arrived for our 12:25 reservation with modest expectations and an empty stomach. We were finally seated at 1:01pm, but not before enduring a 30-minute delay and an impromptu shouting match from a nearby server summoning "Andrew" across the dining room as if he'd been abducted mid-meal. Spoiler: he had not. He was very much present--just two tables away, looking as confused as the rest of us. next to us. It turns out the "whispering" part of the Whispering Canyon Cafe is ironic. This isn't breakfast--it's breakfast theater, written by someone who hates mornings and directed by toddlers with megaphones. Paper towels fly. kids scream, and an announcer over the PA yells "PONY RIDE" as if to distract you from what's on your plate. It works--for a moment. We ordered the Harvest Skillet for the adults and the "all-you-care-to-regret" skillet for the kid. It all came dumped onto one pan, despite the price difference. Apparently, chaos is communal here. Even more baffling--it took over 30 minutes for the food to arrive, which is remarkable considering this is clearly pre-cooked food being scraped from a holding pan and plated. The biscuits tasted like knockoff Cheddar Bays left too long in a humid storage closet. Eggs? The eggs were floating in a suspicious "egg juice" that no one could--or would--explain. Bacon? A marvel of modern science--cardboard in pork's clothing. Sausage was jerky's burnt cousin. Potatoes were over-fried bricks, glued together with fossilized cheese. I sincerely felt bad for the overly irradiated peppers carelessly mixed in. Even our pour syrup had the texture of hair gel. To be fair, the Mickey waffles were kind of warm and decently fluffy, a fleeting bright spot in an otherwise dim breakfast experience. We asked for clean plates due to mystery sticky smudges and syrup stuck paper. They arrived slightly cleaner than the ones before. The table was never maintained or cleared. Managers stood around observing the chaos like disinterested sociologists. As for our server... I genuinely feel for her. She was visibly struggling. This isn't poor service--it's a lack of dignity. Disney, do better by your cast members. I'm giving it two stars because the building didn't collapse, and the chocolate milk was passable. The 40% Annual Passholder discount softened the blow, but not enough. Even at half price, this felt like a swindle--one wrapped in noise, drowned in bad gravy, and garnished with sticky regret. If you come here for the food, don't. Period. If you come here for the "show", bring earplugs, a flask, and the resignation of a parent who's already given up. read more

What a hidden gem for a great brunch! They have different choices of skillet options that are "all you care to enjoy" which was great since my husband and I chose 2 different ones so we were able to try many different foods. I got the bbq one which had brisket, ribs, chicken, beans, corn, cornbread and potatoes. He got the breakfast one with eggs, bacon, sausage, Minnie waffles, biscuit and gravy, and potatoes. You can order just 1 more waffle or an entire extra order of everything! The funnest part of this experience are the characters though. This is not your ordinary character dining. The servers play different sarcastic characters and huff and puff when you ask for things or make jokes like the water is from the pool. The funniest thing is if you ask for ketchup. The whole restaurant yells that you need ketchup and it's the travelling ketchup brigade as the previous table brings you bottles and bottles. They also have pony rides where a horse on a wooden stick is given to kids and they ride around the restaurant. Great place to come with families. Oh my goodness, we were definitely not prepared to eat this amount of food. Located inside of Disneys Wilderness Lodge, the cafe is full of life. I definitely recommend making a reservation since even then we waited close to 45 minutes to be seated on a Saturday for lunch. The staff are friendly but create a "sassy" atmosphere. Go ahead and ask for ketchup or throw a straw at your sibling and you'll see what I'm talking about. We tried the all you care to enjoy skillet meals which was delicious but my husband and I barely made a dent. We will try the a la cart items of the menu next time, since it's just so much food. We come to Wilderness Lodge a lot, typically eating in Geyser Point, but we've wanted to try this fun in-door restaurant. They do offer simpler dishes (my wife got the Western-style Benedict), but I chose one of their endless skillets. Both were delicious, and I was able to ask for more eggs and bacon -- I desperately wanted more of the Mickey waffles, but was trying to be good. You know you're in for a treat when the hostess seats you and tells you to expect "shenanigans", and you're getting served by a guy named "Bubba". The staff make it truly an entertaining experience, whether it's hollering for ketchup bottles, doing crazy stuff with birthdays, or just poking fun at you directly. The food was delicious, and even the inexpensive mimosa flight was good and not too heavy as we got ready to explore the parks.
