Perfect day for an outdoor lunch with my wife today, so we ventured over to White Maple in Ridgewood. Everything was super clean (interior and exterior), which was a good start. The wait staff was attentive and they got the food out quickly, which was a plus. On to the food...My wife ordered the avocado toast ($14) with a side salad and a side of grilled chicken (extra). Constructively speaking, the "avocado" looked and tasted like it was squeezed from a bag of previously frozen Costco guac (no exaggeration), which not only tasted bad but also made the bread soggy. The expectation was fresh, ripe avocado on some crispy toast, but the plate failed. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich ($17). The sourdough bread was delicious and perfectly toasted, which is imperative for sandwich success, however, I had to pull a small chicken bone & cartilage from my mouth 4 times during my chow session and the chicken tasted like it was a couple of days old. Both plates can easily be bettered. I hope the chef takes the feedback and improves the plates, because the location, the restaurant itself, and its staff were great. I finally came here after seeing a decent amount of good reviews. The interior was very classy and such a cute spot for a date or catch up with friends. I ordered the ricotta board, braised beef sandwich, and spicy thai chicken salad. The ricotta board was so cute and delicious. I loved the mix of ricotta with the fig jam drizzled with some honey. The braised beef sandwich was really flavorful but a bit heavy. It came with a side of fries which i cant complain about because fries are always good. The thai salad kind of tasted like soy sauce and did not taste like a thai salad would and I would not order that again. Lastly we ended with the strawberry creme brûlée which was very light and creamy. It tasted like an egg tart which i love! A nice brunch place, with pretty decent food. Very impressed with their welcome, as they offer complementary popcorn and distilled/sparkling water, very unique other eateries. We tried the beef burger, short rib Banny, and Vermont Benny (proclaimed to be their most popular item). The burger tasted fine, adding an egg made it lil interesting. They do make really good sweet potato fries. The short rib and Vermont Benny were nicely prepared as well. They start by serving water and popcorn. Popcorn is a cool twist instead of serving bread. For dinner I had the white maple veggie bowl with a shrimp add on. The veggie bowl itself was good but the shrimp was cooked to perfection! Cooked well down by request and seasoned perfectly. I will definitely come back to try other dishes. There are lots of really good restaurants in Ridgewood, so I'm also considering the competition. The salads were just ok. This may just be one of my new favorite places in Ridgewood. I went with a couple of friends back in January for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty our dishes were! The service that first time around wasn't the best, but I'm chalking that up to the cold January temps (we ate outside for pandemic related reasons). We came back in September and had a phenomenal experience. Food was as solid as ever, very health conscious and accommodating to various diets, and the service was on point as well. I went last summer and it was my first time stopping here and I would definitely come back. The potatoes were amazing!! The perfect crisp and they were seasoned so well. The iced matcha had a lot of matcha chunks in it but it still tasted yummy, just an off consistency. The short ribs eggs Benedict tasted pretty great. Diane, I had lunch there yesterday with my daughter. Service was slow and very generic. I asked a few questions and didn't get a direct answer, so I gave up. The veggie burger was disgusting and mushy. It seemed to be just mashed up broccoli it was bitter and not very hot. My daughter ordered the 1/2 sandwich and tomato bisque soup which was cold, she used it as a dip for her hot grilled cheese sandwich. Let me start this off by saying that I understand the plight of servers-- they're dependent on tips and at the will of their customers and the abilities of the kitchen. That being said however, my compassion has its limits, and yes, this place pushed them. For one, it took five minutes for our waiter to even greet us despite being seated. Then it took another 10-15 minutes to get our drinks (one small matcha latte and a watermelon mocktail). In the interim, we were given seasoned popcorn as a starter, which we ate only out of pure, unrefined hunger. It took another 45 minutes for us to receive our dishes: one salad, a poke bowl, and sandwich with soup. As I wrestled with my hunger, I watched with envy as the other patrons were eating or getting their food. Overtime, I became worried. Had the cook run out of meat and had to butcher the chicken themselves? I asked about our food once and was met with dismissiveness (this is the exact moment my limit was exceeded.) By the time we finally got our food I found out what took so long: the chef was so busy burning my bread! I mean besides the terrible service and burned bread, our meals weren't inedible (good news for my husband's salad!) Rather, they were mediocre and overpriced. Still, I felt soured and wished that I had just left to the sushi restaurant across the street (they were certainly getting their food.) I loved the walnuts and strawberries the most and just how fresh the salad tasted. This place is in a great location. It's on one of the main roads in Ridgewood and very easy to find. I was with my wife, my young daughter and our infant son in a stroller. We came in and they placed us on a table close to the front door to accommodate the stroller. The server gave us water and popcorn and left. On our own we realized we had to scan the QR code that was on the table. There was a piece of paper with 6 QR code's bunched up. So scanning it and getting the correct menu was an issue. After finally figuring out the menu situation, we were ready to order. No one approached us. My young daughter used the bathroom. I figured the server would be back by the time my wife and daughter came back from the bathroom, nope. After coming back from the bathroom we kept waiting. I gave them a break since I only saw two servers and figured they must be busy. But my wife pointed out that all they did was pick up dirty plates and attend to other customers who either sat outside or at the back of the restaurant. I was going to get the attention of a server when it was coming close to a 30 minute wait. My last straw was when I saw the two groups that were seated after us while we waited be attended to and got their order. We got up and walked out. As we walked out one of the servers approached our table and began to clean it and remove the cups of water. He made eye contact with me, I held back to see if anyone would step out and say anything but no one did. read more

I went to White Maple Café for lunch and ordered the Grilled Chicken and Mozzarella Panini with Fries. The fries were pretty good, but the panini was disappointing. The bread was over cooked and hard. The chicken was a bit dry and the mozzarella seemed like it had been melted though it still just sat on top of the other ingredients. There were also big pieces of kale in the panini that were tough to bite and decreased the ease of eating. The panini costs $13, which is a fair price. The interior decor and atmosphere are really nice. The tables look like white marble, the space is clean, and there is a nice wall of plants by the entrance. In addition, the service was great. Our waiter gave us complimentary sparkling water and seasoned popcorn. He was also very attentive, although the service speed was a bit slow. Overall, I was disappointed by the quality of food at White Maple Café (especially since I had heard good things about this restaurant). However, the atmosphere and service are pluses. If I could, I would give it 3.5 stars, but because the food is the most important factor, I'm giving White Maple Café 3 stars.
