My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night. Sometimes we like to be spontaneous and just stay where we decide to stop. This time we weren't so lucky. It's late Saturday night and there is a rodeo/fair in Paso Robles and some other events in the area. No available hotel rooms anywhere and too late to book online. I called around and finally someone at a local hotel in Solvang said the whole immediate area was all sold out and suggested White Oaks Hotel in "the outskirts of Lompoc" (as if Lompoc itself wasn't already the middle of nowhere). I gave Yelp a quick look and there was no reviews. Then a check on tripadvisor showed a wide range of reviews from scary to pretty good. Since it was either that or drive 5 more hours home, we gave it a shot. The woman who answered the phone at White Oaks was very nice and said they had a couple rooms left, even one with two Queens, which is what we were hoping for. The room was a little more than I wanted to pay, but at this point I didn't care. I reserved the room with my credit card and we made the drive over to Lompoc, arriving just before 11:30pm. Already expecting the worst, we pulled in and the circa 1970s lobby was deserted. Once again the woman behind the counter was very nice and got everything worked out as fast as she could with the phone ringing off the hook (apparently we weren't the only ones desperate for a room). We made our way around the side of the building to our room and as it turns out it wasn't too bad. It was pretty quiet both outside the hotel and inside. The room was dated and a bit worn, but very clean. The beds were comfy and the sheets were nice and soft. The towels were also soft and everything smelled fresh. There was all the usual things you'd expect in the room and then some including fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, fan and safe. The wifi was fast and free. Their "breakfast" was a bit a bit of a stretch even for continental, so plan on eating elsewhere. It's not the hilton, but it's safe, clean and beats sleeping in the car. If I ever end up in Lompoc again and the price was right, I'd stay here again. Solid 3 1/2 stars. Thanks for saving the day (err.. night) White Oaks! read more

I don't know why this place gets such horrible reviews aside from no A/C & outdated look which is not even a big deal... I booked this hotel through www. priceline.com for 2 nights from Fri-Sunday at about $114/night. I was just trying to find the most affordable place to stay with my girl friends during our road trip from Orange County to Santa Barbara & San Luis Obispo and this was the only place available for under $200/night. Honestly, I was very hesitant and skeptical about booking this place but I was pretty desperate as it was kind of last minute. The parking lot definitely needs asphalt paving!!! There were absolutely no cars in the front parking lot which gave me quite a fright. Upon arrival, I was greeted by an EXTRA friendly lady. I wish I remembered her name! She helped me check in right away and offered me some cold bottled water. The reason why the front parking lot was so empty is because one you check in, there is more parking closer to the entrance of the rooms. The rooms are not huge nor small but it sure exceeded my low expectations so it actually felt pretty spacious. The bathroom door needs to be fixed because you have to sort of slam the door to shut it...The bathroom is actually pretty clean and has a blow dryer. The shower pressure is very strong. Our 2 Queens bedroom included an alarm, TV, mini fridge, and microwave. Wi-Fi was easy to access and quick. There is an AC unit in the room but for some reason they don't work so the ladies at the front desk gave us a fan. We stayed there first week of August when it's hot out but with the fan on, it gets very cool at night and we even had to turn off the fan because it got too cold. A continental breakfast is included every morning. There's milk, orange juice, apple juice, coffee, creamer, sugar, cereal, muffins, croissants, bread, toaster oven, butter, jam, etc. My favorite: croissant halved, toasted, buttered & jam spread all over. YUM! My friend had a bit of an accident knocking over some orange juice at the breakfast station and the ladies at the front desk quickly offered to clean it up. They were so nice! I felt bad! They also have a super cute french bulldog that lives on site with the lady who checked us in! I've stayed in fancy large suites at Venetian, Palazzo, Elara, and more in Vegas so I still have high standards but for a 3 day girls road trip for 2-4 girls along the PCH where all we mainly need the hotel for is to sleep at night.., this place is TOTALLY WORTH IT. I would stay here again. I really do hope that business gets better for this place so they can shell out some money for renovations because I feel like this place has potential. Came to town on President's Day/Valentines Day weekend. Everyone seemed to be out of space, except for this place. Although it in no way competes with Embassy Suites, Marriott, or the like, this was a clean, quiet, and comfortable room to stay in. I had with me, my family of six. We got a "suite" which had a room with a king bed and then a sitting area with a fold out couch. The lady running everything that day was even so sweet to bring two cots for my sons to sleep on. The price was right for what it was. The pool is in disrepair and there were some issues that I noticed in the room... but nothing that made me feel unsafe or unclean. The staff was very welcoming. My children were eager to try Frisbee golf, which they have included on the grounds. read more

This place was the only hotel that had a room available in the area. Price was fair, a little overpriced for what you get. Room was decently clean when we got their. Sheets were itchy could hear the neighbors talking through the walls. When I drove up there was nobody parked in the front it looks abandoned. They have frisbee golf but that's if you don't mind fetching the frisbees from some potholes or if it gets lost somewhere near the piles of garbage or the rv parked in the grassy area. The pool was out of service and was empty and air conditioning didn't work in the room. The lock on the door didn't work if you pull it hard it would separate the wall. Good thing I only had to stay one night. Oh.. And I witnessed a drug deal outside in the parking lot read more

This place sucks, omg if other hotels are not booked we would be out of here. We booked two rooms with 2 beds in each... one room was booked by someone else previously so when we came in to that room there were stuff in the room already. I say if you are desperate then go ahead and book but if you have an alternative hotel that may be a little pricey, i say book that one because it's scary to think that if you step out of your room, a stranger might have a key to your room and they might steal your stuff, just saying! The rooms also stinks, all their bed sheets, blankets and pillow cases have stains. The only positive thing here in this stay is that my family got moved to a bigger room when we found out there room already has visitors. But my suggestion is book a room in another place where you can have a bit of peace of mind when you step out of your hotel room. read more

We stopped in after a long day of cycle touring down the coast and were met by a grumpy guy at the front desk. We got two rooms which were nothing great but not horrible. We have been camping so were looking forward to continental breakfast and early morning start. The breakfast was scheduled to start at 6am. We showed up at 6:50 but were locked out of the lobby. We tried calling the front desk multiple times until about 7:30 but no answer. Finally at about 7:40 the lobby door opened. The continental breakfast was a couple cereals and toast. Not even any coffee!! What is this place? We all recommend staying elsewhere. read more

This place was horrible a creepy old hotel. Went to check in only maintenance man there & told come back. He did let me see a couple of rooms. They were clean old furniture, no air, and no keys so I couldn't leave my belongings because he could not check me in. I did not return, I did not like the way it looked in the daylight, I certainly wasn't going back at night. Needless to say they are charging me the full amount of $189.00 for that one night. I am trying to get my money back, thru Booking or Priceline, and disputing charges on my credit card. I would give them $50.00 for inconveniencing me. My stay at White Oaks Hotel was an extended stay. During my time there, I was very pleased with the service that I received. The management and staff were all very friendly and very accommodating. When I first checked in the woman at the front desk was very nice and she was very helpful too. The housekeeping staff were friendly and they kept my room very clean, and with fresh smelling linen. It was nice to have a good working T.V. They also had a fast and free internet service. I really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful atmosphere, especially the peaceful open land that is behind the hotel. The grass is dried and that is probably because of the water shortage, but it didn't matter because of all the big beautiful trees. read more

never go to this "hotel" and i am using the term loosely. The staff are extremely rude, you are lucky to have your room cleaned twice a week. They always spy on you to see what visitors you have coming to visit you, they claim they have to have photo id copies of anyone coming to visit you in your room. I have been staying there for 3 months all of a sudden the owner says he's gonna jack up my monthly rent 100 dollars just because the house keeping complained i spilled dry oatmeal on the floor and didnt pick it up, im sorry i thought that's what a maid was for, and mind you i dont travel around with a vacuum cleaner in my front pocket. Also one time i had some mail delivered there and did not receive it for a week. There is never anyone at the front desk. One time i was leaving to go to work and i saw a lady standing at the front desk, she said she had been standing there for 20 minutes, and was waiting to check out she dialed 0 like the sign said no one answered this is the middle of the day not late at night, she said can i leave the key with u i have to go, she said it was the worst place she'd ever stayed and wouldnt recommend it to anyone, now i see why i wouldnt blame her. The owner is trying to remodel the place so he is definetly overcharging rhat place isnt worth the money they charge now. They advertise a free breakfast , give me a break. There is a fridge in the lobby with one stick of butter and some baking soda in it. some old ass fruit that gets left out evrymorning, and cold ass nasty tasting coffe to have every morning if ur lucky some of the "staff" has gotten up to actually do that morning. Sometimes they dont even have hand towels to give there guest. As well as there is hardly anyone ever at the front desk. This place advertises a pool, get out of here, that pool hasnt been in use in years , and when i asked the owner would he try to get it working by summer , he said in a very smug way he has absolutely no intention of working on that pool, but they advertise trying to lure in weary guest, just dishonest. Avoid this place at all cost a waste of money and time. Also jack my rent up by 100 dollars, my rack for my toilet paper has been broken since i moved in no one gave a hell about fixing it, and my shower bar falls down everytime i barely move my shower curtain, as well as they have a so called gym please, i dont call no treadmill and two weights sets a gym. read more

OK, here's the deal. This hotel is more of a mini-apartment building for contractors with clean rooms that are good size, weekly rates, no frills. With very limited desk support, I found that you have to walk in and ask for a room (after 4pm but before 6pm best or the lobby might be closed). I love the rooms with the sliding glass door that opens to a lovely huge lawn, I don't feel as claustrophobic as I would in a regular hotel. The people are nice (if you can find them). And the price is right, even for an overnight. You really can't find much in the way of long term lodging like renting a condo for 3 months in Lompoc, so this is the fallback. This is my third long-term stay over the last 6-7 years and with being so conveniently located for the Base, I am happy with the accommodations. As long as the rooms are clean and safe, I'm ok with minor inconveniences. It is home away from home. By the way, they can be fully booked, so make no assumptions about staying here if you are looking for long term. read more

I was on a motorcycle trip with some friends and were staying in Sacramento for the night. I booked a room with White Oaks through booking.com on Friday, July 21 at 11:04 p.m. (This comes in to play later). When I checked my phone the next morning, I learned the room was somehow booked for the night prior. As I was in Sacramento and nowhere near Lompoc, and not intoxicated, there was clearly some error. I contacted the hotel at about 10:00 a.m. and was told I would be contacted after they looked in to the matter. I never heard from anyone and called them later in the day on Saturday to see what was going on with the reservation. Long story short, neither booking.com nor the hotel were "able" to refund my money or have any understanding about the matter. I would understand if the room could have been booked otherwise, but with the reservation being made at such a late hour, the room was more than likely to stay vacant for that night. There was a complete lack of professionalism with the hotel and booking.com was no better. While I did not get the chance to actually stay here, I'm glad I know to avoid this place on any future trips. read more
