Wonderful oasis of good food along the trail. Nothing very fancy here, but they cater to bikers and they do it well. Our food came out quickly and it was hot and delicious. They seem to buy high quality ingredients. There are lots of great snacks that bikers love to grab and go. The bathroom outside is a portable John, but that seems to be offered by the National Park Service. Plenty of parking for bikes.

The subs at Whites Ferry are great, and they have a nice general selection of munchies. My cheesesteak was PERFECT. Not much seating, and it can be a bit crowded. They cater more towards the hikers and adventurers in the area. When the ferry was running, it was great to grab a snack while waiting your turn. The parking lot is gravel, so be careful, especially if on two wheels.

Like the old country stores I grew up with. The sandwiches are awesome! My new Sunday get-away.

This little place is paradise for hikers, bikers & weekend sightseers. It's funny, several miles down the river people pay many times more for lunch not as good with hardly any view of the water. Here, you get an amazing lunch or breakfast sammie with polite service and a great view of the Potomac in a historic park reserve. My tuna sandwich was absolutely as I wanted & hoped it would be- fresh with not too much Mayo or stuff - just a bit of relish. Generous serving of tuna also. Simple & delish!! Hubby claimed his cheesesteak was "awesome" & devoured it promptly. The bread was great! I wish I ordered the onion rings- they looked amazing. As other Yelpers have pointed out there's lots of places to chill & enjoy your food. All in all a fantastic lunch on the Potomac w a wonderful drive through rural Maryland to get there & back. It's a shame the ferry is closed as of my posting but hopefully that will Change. In the meantime grab a sandwich & take a hike or a bike! Can't wait to come back for the onion rings!

It took Whites Ferry closing down to get me out here. Mind you I have taken the ferry before, I just didn't think of stopping in here to experience the deliciousness I did today. We may have ordered practically everything and here's the run down: Whites Ferry burger: simple half pound burger with American cheese. Absolutely 100% delicious. Hands down my favorite burger. Tastes like homemade chargrilled burger that you can get at a backyard cook out from someone who can actually grill and make their own patties. It's juicy, it's not over cooked and pairs well with their crispy fries. Pickle sub: it's a turkey sub in a hollowed out pickle. Is it unique? Yes. It has a ton of turkey in it. Doesn't really come with condiments like mustard or mayo so other than tasting like pickle juice it might be a bit dry. Very keto friendly but maybe not a low sodium option. Reuben-Fantastic corned beef (sliced thinly which I prefer), great dressing and love the sauerkraut. This was a stand out. There are lots of park benches to sit on to enjoy a view of the river and have a picnic. I am not sure what the latest news is on the ferry but even if it doesn't come back I hope this place stays. Will be back for the onion rings!

I'll quote my world traveling pal instead: Great Price for a Half Pound burger And always excellent!! Saying more is saying less.. for just over 10 bucks, you are hooked up, and not disappointed

Came here because I wanted to take the ferry across to VA but realized that it's been closed for at least a year now..... Wow! I was not expecting this quality of food at an random convenient store. Everything was made to order and the quality of their ingredients is top notch! Love the brioche buns on the burger and the patty was well seasoned. Best thing about this place is the price, very very affordable. Ate our food at a picnic table nearby. Good food and good view, what more can you ask for?

Stopped by for a bite to eat in between breaks at the pool. The weather was perfect and the Whites Ferry Store and grill was the perfect spot. We got my daughters hot dogs, my sister a steak and cheese, and I got a cheeseburger. We got some sides including onion rings and Mac and cheese. The hot dog was good and the Mac and cheese was white cheddar with shells. The steak and cheese was also good. The burger was the highlight. Straight up fire! If you come out this way, make the stop while the ferry isn't running. It's peaceful and the cheeseburgers slap! Easy 5 stars!

    Excellent burgers!

Stopped in this twice since the ferry was closed. I have to admit, I did not even know this place was worth stopping in until I saw the recent ferry press. It is excellent! We had burgers both times although I also saw a london broil (?) sandwich that also looked excellent. Staff took our orders and brought it to us outside. You can get great food, beer, burgers, drinks, breakfast sandwiches and the ONION RINGS are the bomb! We regards to Covid, they would regularly count how many people were waiting to order and ask folks to step outside if their count was side. They encouraged anyone who had already ordered to wait outside. This was great and I'll be back with the family for more biking and burgers.

A normal person looks at a hamburger and asks, "Would you like cheese on that?" The people at MELT apparently look at one and ask, "How can we make this so extraordinary that customers begin questioning whether everything they previously called a burger was actually just meat occupying bread?" I ordered the Paris Burger: Premium beef char-grilled with roasted garlic, then topped with melted French Brie, balsamic-glazed onions, baby spinach, and a smear of Dijon mustard on a house-made bun. This ingredient list sounds less like a hamburger and more like several upscale appetizers became trapped in an elevator and decided to form a government. I do not know what kind of inspired nut job first assembled this combination, but everything contributes to everything else. The Brie, roasted garlic, sweet richness of the balsamic-glazed onions, spinach, and Dijon do not compete for attention; they cooperate with suspicious precision. The flavor is exquisite. This should not be placed in the same category as ordinary burgers unless the category is titled "Round Foods That Technically Contain Beef." And then there is the bun. Most hamburger buns eventually choose one of two career paths: Damp sponge or roofing material. This one rejected both. It was cooked to that nearly mythical point between soft and soggy, firm and crunchy. It supported the burger without collapsing, disintegrating, or scraping the roof of my mouth like an edible Brillo pad. Perfection. For a side, I ordered the sweet potato fries. They were already very good, which apparently was considered insufficient by the resident mad scientists. Someone had the completely unreasonable idea of serving them with marshmallow fluff. Marshmallow fluff. With sweet potato fries. This sounds like a suggestion made at 2:00 a.m. by someone who should have been politely escorted away from the kitchen. Instead, that person may be a genius. The combination is incredible. The salty sweet potato fries dipped in marshmallow fluff produced one of those moments when your brain objects on principle while your hand quietly reaches for another fry. This proves that not every insane idea is crazy; some merely require dipping sauce. I also had the Thin Mint shake, which was excellent except for the only legitimate complaint I could manufacture during the entire meal: It came with an ordinary straw. Every attempt to drink it became a small plumbing emergency when a piece of Thin Mint lodged in the opening. Sip, blockage, investigate, clear obstruction, repeat. I was not drinking a milkshake so much as performing routine maintenance on a delicious cookie pipeline. A proper milkshake straw would eliminate the one defect in an otherwise outstanding operation. This was not merely a good meal from a burger joint. It was a culinary experience disguised as casual food. The Paris Burger was phenomenal, the fries and marshmallow fluff were an act of benevolent madness, and even my complaint involves the shake containing too many actual pieces of Thin Mint to pass through standard beverage infrastructure. MELT is almost worth traveling to Virginia for by itself. If the people running this place are insane, nobody intervene. Whatever treatment would make them normal might ruin the menu.

Now onto the down side.... My friend ordered a cheeseburger but there was no cheese. I brought this up to the cashiers and they said they will take a look at it. After a long while (maybe 10 mins) they still did not come. I went back up and they told me the same thing, but instead added, sometimes the cheese can be inside or hidden (I guaranteed him that it is not hidden...) by then the burger was cold. Finally somebody came and brought us two slices of cheese to add into the burger. That was quite disappointing considering how long that took to just bring two cold slices of cheese to eat with the now cold burger.

Everything we ordered was either trying too hard and missed, or was poorly done. For example, we couldn't taste the oysters at all because they were filled with some kind of cream with a rhubarb sauce on top. A complete abuse of an oyster in my opinion. Oysters are a delicate flavor and the point of them is to taste (or enhance) their unique brine, not bury them in a sweet sauce over cream. The giant pork chop was overcooked. The fries were so overcooked you could barely bite into them (and insanely salty). It is also incredibly overpriced. I rarely comment on price (we eat at Michelin restaurants a few times a year), but this place is ridiculous. Basically Clyde's style of food for 3x the price (and Clyde's is better). The staff was nice, but they seriously need to drop some of the pretense. Like I don't need my table swept for crumbs several times throughout a meal when you don't even bother to provide a beverage napkin to mitigate condensation (on a bare wood table, no tablecloths). The servers won't even take dishes off the table. They find their little crumb sweeper minions to do that for them. I've eaten at fine dining all over the world. This place is just trying too hard to be something it's not. Oh, and you also get the perk of paying $15 to park in the lot behind the hotel. Because apparently spending $500 on dinner doesn't include parking. Ridiculous. AVOID. They need to figure something else out. Loudouners may have money, but we also have taste and don't like being swindled.
