Wonderful oasis of good food along the trail. Nothing very fancy here, but they cater to bikers and they do it well. Our food came out quickly and it was hot and delicious. They seem to buy high quality ingredients. There are lots of great snacks that bikers love to grab and go. The bathroom outside is a portable John, but that seems to be offered by the National Park Service. Plenty of parking for bikes.

The subs at Whites Ferry are great, and they have a nice general selection of munchies. My cheesesteak was PERFECT. Not much seating, and it can be a bit crowded. They cater more towards the hikers and adventurers in the area. When the ferry was running, it was great to grab a snack while waiting your turn. The parking lot is gravel, so be careful, especially if on two wheels.

Like the old country stores I grew up with. The sandwiches are awesome! My new Sunday get-away.

This little place is paradise for hikers, bikers & weekend sightseers. It's funny, several miles down the river people pay many times more for lunch not as good with hardly any view of the water. Here, you get an amazing lunch or breakfast sammie with polite service and a great view of the Potomac in a historic park reserve. My tuna sandwich was absolutely as I wanted & hoped it would be- fresh with not too much Mayo or stuff - just a bit of relish. Generous serving of tuna also. Simple & delish!! Hubby claimed his cheesesteak was "awesome" & devoured it promptly. The bread was great! I wish I ordered the onion rings- they looked amazing. As other Yelpers have pointed out there's lots of places to chill & enjoy your food. All in all a fantastic lunch on the Potomac w a wonderful drive through rural Maryland to get there & back. It's a shame the ferry is closed as of my posting but hopefully that will Change. In the meantime grab a sandwich & take a hike or a bike! Can't wait to come back for the onion rings!

It took Whites Ferry closing down to get me out here. Mind you I have taken the ferry before, I just didn't think of stopping in here to experience the deliciousness I did today. We may have ordered practically everything and here's the run down: Whites Ferry burger: simple half pound burger with American cheese. Absolutely 100% delicious. Hands down my favorite burger. Tastes like homemade chargrilled burger that you can get at a backyard cook out from someone who can actually grill and make their own patties. It's juicy, it's not over cooked and pairs well with their crispy fries. Pickle sub: it's a turkey sub in a hollowed out pickle. Is it unique? Yes. It has a ton of turkey in it. Doesn't really come with condiments like mustard or mayo so other than tasting like pickle juice it might be a bit dry. Very keto friendly but maybe not a low sodium option. Reuben-Fantastic corned beef (sliced thinly which I prefer), great dressing and love the sauerkraut. This was a stand out. There are lots of park benches to sit on to enjoy a view of the river and have a picnic. I am not sure what the latest news is on the ferry but even if it doesn't come back I hope this place stays. Will be back for the onion rings!

Came here because I wanted to take the ferry across to VA but realized that it's been closed for at least a year now..... Wow! I was not expecting this quality of food at an random convenient store. Everything was made to order and the quality of their ingredients is top notch! Love the brioche buns on the burger and the patty was well seasoned. Best thing about this place is the price, very very affordable. Ate our food at a picnic table nearby. Good food and good view, what more can you ask for?

Stopped by for a bite to eat in between breaks at the pool. The weather was perfect and the Whites Ferry Store and grill was the perfect spot. We got my daughters hot dogs, my sister a steak and cheese, and I got a cheeseburger. We got some sides including onion rings and Mac and cheese. The hot dog was good and the Mac and cheese was white cheddar with shells. The steak and cheese was also good. The burger was the highlight. Straight up fire! If you come out this way, make the stop while the ferry isn't running. It's peaceful and the cheeseburgers slap! Easy 5 stars!

Huge fan of this place and have been stopping here for years now for a bite/beer, but they lose a fifth star for not being open on Memorial Day and all the other Mondays that DC feds get off - just seems a huge opportunity loss given all the bike, foot, pedal, paddle, and car traffic this place rightly gets.

    Excellent burgers!

I stumbled onto this spot on a whim, and the setup immediately struck me as legit. I'll admit I was…read morea little nervous walking in -- we dropped $45 on two burgers, one fry, and a beer, so expectations were high. The nerves come from the fact that I consider myself a "Burger God." I've hunted down some of the best burger joints the country -- and the world -- has to offer, so I was trusting this place to deliver. Right away, the dressing felt sloppy. The cold toppings were piled on top of the meat, pulling heat out of the patty fast. The beef itself was fresh and juicy, but the bun paid the price -- soaking up oil and fat until it lost all structural integrity. You can see it in the photo: completely flattened. Summary: Melt Gourmet's burgers are genuinely good, and it starts with the quality of beef they source. Where they're leaving points on the table is in how the burger is dressed -- and a stronger hand with seasoning would take it even further. The patty itself was a little under-seasoned, but the freshness of the beef and the crunch of the LTOP (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) kept me engaged. Fresh-baked buns daily are another point in their favor, enough to bump my score from a 6 to a 7. What kept it from climbing higher was the construction: the way it's dressed and presented practically guarantees a mess with the first bite. The fix is simple -- onions, pickles, and lettuce should sit directly on the bottom bun, with tomato layered above them. Stacking the wet ingredients on top instead cools the cheese and patty fast, and every bite sends juice running rather than staying put. The result is flavor that ends up on your forearm instead of your tongue.

The grilled chicken is pretty good too, especially for those that want extra protein! The restaurant is clean and the AC is strong, making it a great place to enjoy your meal during a hot summer day. Now onto the down side.... My friend ordered a cheeseburger but there was no cheese. I brought this up to the cashiers and they said they will take a look at it. After a long while (maybe 10 mins) they still did not come. I went back up and they told me the same thing, but instead added, sometimes the cheese can be inside or hidden (I guaranteed him that it is not hidden...) by then the burger was cold. Finally somebody came and brought us two slices of cheese to add into the burger. That was quite disappointing considering how long that took to just bring two cold slices of cheese to eat with the now cold burger.

The foie gras, dueling buns, and beef tartare appetizers were all really good but very tiny. Of all those, the cold crab bun was the most interesting and delicious tasting. Everything we ordered was either trying too hard and missed, or was poorly done. For example, we couldn't taste the oysters at all because they were filled with some kind of cream with a rhubarb sauce on top. A complete abuse of an oyster in my opinion. Oysters are a delicate flavor and the point of them is to taste (or enhance) their unique brine, not bury them in a sweet sauce over cream. The giant pork chop was overcooked. The fries were so overcooked you could barely bite into them (and insanely salty). It is also incredibly overpriced. I rarely comment on price (we eat at Michelin restaurants a few times a year), but this place is ridiculous. Basically Clyde's style of food for 3x the price (and Clyde's is better). The staff was nice, but they seriously need to drop some of the pretense. Like I don't need my table swept for crumbs several times throughout a meal when you don't even bother to provide a beverage napkin to mitigate condensation (on a bare wood table, no tablecloths). The servers won't even take dishes off the table. They find their little crumb sweeper minions to do that for them. I've eaten at fine dining all over the world. This place is just trying too hard to be something it's not. Oh, and you also get the perk of paying $15 to park in the lot behind the hotel. Because apparently spending $500 on dinner doesn't include parking. Ridiculous. AVOID. They need to figure something else out. Loudouners may have money, but we also have taste and don't like being swindled.
