Great local watering hole. Food is always good and there's always a decent beer or two on tap!

Quaint local place, they had a band plan, but we sat off in another room, but it sounded like everybody was having a good time. We just wanted to be on our own a little bit. Food was good. I see why everybody was there for all you can eat crab legs. We had to stand for a minute or two inside waiting on a table to be cleaned because we got there right at the end of crab legs, but the staff was nice. They were checking on us to make sure we didn't need anything and it wasn't long before we had our table and the service was great. I would've gave it five stars, but since we wanted to kind of be alone, the band was a little loud where we were sitting. read more

They could actually wait on you. Was looking forward to trying this restaurant. Gentleman who sat us was very nice, that was the end of our experience here. The waitress must have walked past us at least six times without even acknowledging our existence. She waited on the people sitting in front of us behind us, just kept walking past as if there was no one sitting at the table. Would love to have given a positive review on the menu, but we never got a chance to try anything. Would really love to hear what the management thought about our experience. read more

Came here for lunch with with my team from the office, and it was a great experience. We were seated quickly, our server was very friendly and helpful, and the food selection offered something for everyone. It was my first time here but the next time I'm in town I will be back! I had the Whitpain burger with chips and an iced tea, the burger was delicious, though after seeing my coworker's fries I wished I'd opted for the fries vs. the chips (they were basically off-the-shelf kettle chips, nothing special), but that said it's a nitpick, the food, service, and old tavern ambiance make this place a real gem. I went to lunch with my family. Most of the family ordered breakfast because this restaurant is well known for their extensive breakfast menu. I decided to go with lunch. I ordered beef barley soup that was very good and I also ordered some scallops. They were perfect. The cook did them to perfection. They were large scallops wrapped in bacon. The cook knew how to cook them. I would recomend them to anyone who likes seafood. I will be back again to have more scallops soon. read more

We've been here a few times and seem to really enjoy ourselves every time. Great variety of beers on tap - check. Huge variety of pub food - some typical, some not - check. Service is usually great - Wendy always makes me feel like a Hilton Honors member - and this is a Tavern- check. They just added a nice outdoor dining area and it looks/feels roomy and comfy. On our last visit we got Patrick's Patty melt and the Black and Bleu Tuna Salad. They forgot the onion rings on the patty - but it was still very good. The tuna was seared perfectly (rare) - salad was excellent- although the cucumbers could've been cut a bit smaller. Currently, Whit Tav is our fav place on 202. read more

Wow, this place has really gone down hill! Stopped by for NYE, and the stench that hits you when opening the doors is real. A mix of days old spilled beer and sweaty BO. The crowd was mostly drunk 60 year olds. The band looked 70. And was decent. The highlight of our short stay was watching in horror as a drunk old man mercilessly berated a drunk old woman!! First, I love Whitpain Tavern and go weekly. Sunday 3/15 I went for dinner at 430pm. Ordered Chicken and ribs. The chicken breast was frozen in the center, yes FROZEN. The ribs were very SPOILED. I had one half rib and stopped thank god because Monday morning I was very sick. It smelled and tasted like rancid meat. All the witnesses of this agreed. We had a good talk with the nice waitress (Blond) and the manager that day (guy) . They both apologized and said they probably did use BAD MEAT! Wow..this is a serious issue. Two eggs any style with bacon was good! The bacon was cooked perfectly but I thought the eggs were a little dry. That being said, I don't prefer eggs dry, but I know others do. All in all, you get a solid meal every time you go and always know what to expect. We got brunch here on Sunday and there were tons of tables open. Good food, good service, in a rustic casual establishment. I have been a few times before in the evening for drinks and live music and it was always a good time. Decided to stop in for lunch while we were out for some errands and enjoyed the antipasta salad. Was overflowing with meat and both long hots and sweet peppers. Was definitely filling! So, I met coworkers here on a random Tuesday night. Who knew it would be packed? They didn't. Service was a bit off, I imagine they are better prepared on more typical nights. I had two aperol spritz cocktails, and they were pretty good. Also ordered the potato skins and mozzarella sticks. The potato skins were huge and covered in bacon but still managed to not have enough salt. Mozzarella sticks were standard, certainly not bad. Well, still 3 stars. The ambiance, music, drinks are still great. Again, with the food. This time my order was easy, just 2 cheesesteaks - one with long hots, one with mayo and sauce on the side. So, we got all we asked for, however, they were put into the wrong boxes and not looking hubby got a huge bite of long hots and I got none. We switched. But, the steak which is usually juicy and tender was dried out. Don't know what's going on there - a new cook?? We still like the place and will probably continue to go there, but maybe not get food? I wish someone from the Tavern would answer these posts! read more

My wife and I ate dinner at the Whitpain Tavern. She ordered a "French Dip" sandwich -- big mistake. She has been extremely sick with volmiting, experiencing extreme headache and unable to sit up for the past 24-hours. Her food poisoning shouldn't be a surprise : county Office of Public Health inspectors cited Whitpain for six violations in the past week alone during a routine inspection. The report cites unsanitary, and unclean equipment and surfaces. The rest of our dinner was ridiculously expensive and our fried food cooked in oil that bordered on rancid. This place needs health department intervention. read more

Horrible system for seating. Hostess had no control over people coming in and seating themselves. When I approached her about the situation she said what do you want me to do I can't tell people they can't sit down. Umm isn't that your job? If you can't do your job appropriately then get the manager. Waited over 30 minutes while people came in after us and got served because they seated themselves. Front of the house blows. Spoke with manager who said I'll seat you but she would have sat us in front of other people that came before us and that's not right! We left and won't be back! read more

Food is awesome! Christine is an extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff member! The beer selection is, well, being from out of town I was disappointed (almost exclusively lighter beers). Unfortunately the tequila selection was limited as well but the drinks were well made, not over or under poured. My companion adored the scallops and clams! Wednesday night, the parking lot was full, lots of events on the sign out front, big menu and diverse crowd had my hopes up for a much better cheesesteak. $8.75 and it came with the potato petal french fries that were delicious. The other food going past us smelled amazing. The guy next to us at the bar liked his dinner. Maybe our cheesesteak was a one-off. I like the Whitpain Tavern. Although I don't go there often as it about a 20-25 minute drive from Chestnut Hill, it has always been friendly when I have stopped in. The Whitpain Tavern looks like a huge log cabin .... and it is. Wood and log beams are everywhere. There are separate dining areas as well as a popular bar. The bar is a good place to watch a sporting event. There are specials each night of the week and on Sunday the special is their 'clam bake.' This seafood smorgasbord is as tasty as it looks with so many different types of shell fish & clams/mussels offered up along with corn on the cob. A generous serving of excellent French fries is the perfect accompaniment. My server Jennifer on a recent Sunday evening when I stopped in for the clam bake was super - both friendly and efficient. Stop in here today to enjoy a burger, since today is National Burger day. I ordered a Mick Jagger burger, an the burger was pretty good cooked Medium rare. I normally come here for fajitas on Thursdays. This location has a 10% discount when you check in. Ensure a manager is available, we couldn't use it because our waiter said no manager was available or on premises, not a big deal but they should remove it if customers can't utilize it. So before being seated ask for a manager, just a bit of advice. read more

A friend invited me to the Whitpain one Sunday, for Karaoke Sundays. Karaoke was provided by Revil Entertainment (http://revilkaraoke.tripod.com), who had a large selection of songs. That evening there was a light crowd, so there we had our share of country, pop, and Sinatra (!) crooners. We - well, my friends - sang, watched sports (on flatscreens), and chatted. Bartender Danny poured us shots of Black Haus, inexpensive at $5 a shot. I'll be back to the Whitpain for more karaoke! I REALLY want to like this place and after numerous attempts (shame on me lol), don't eat here! This place is disgusting.
