Excited to have a healthy choice on the Ludlow strip which we can walk to from my house. I tried it out the other day on the way home from the studio. It is just a walk up window where you order the one item they offer, in two sizes for a good price. The big bowl is a good size for normal sized person. I could see typical Americans not thinking its enough food. I believe the idea was brought here by a Cincinnatian who had opened a similar place in Portland. It definitely feels like something you's see out of town. There are a few side items, but the menu could essentially fit on a business card. The service was quick and pleasant. The food seemed fresh, healthy and was quite tasty. They have sauces on a cart where you can spice things up if you need to. I will certainly be back. I am a bit worried how this place to do with such a limited menu. It would be nice to see them play around a bit with simple ingredients and offer some other things. Maybe a seasonal adjustment. I could see getting a bit tired of having the same thing over and over. Another complaint I have is that visually the place is not too pleasant. The bright yellow and chrome decor has the visual charm of a gas station bathroom (a clean one), but of course you can order your food and take it elsewhere. I am writing this in the New Years which is the time we all agree to eat healthy and spend less doing so. I love this place! You get clean, wholesome, food for a more than fair price. Sometimes I feel like the avocado is inconsistent. In the beginning I would receive half an avocado, now I am getting a couple slices. Either way, I still feel like I am getting my money's worth and would highly recommend Whole Bowl. Delicious, simple, fresh and fast! I love the concept and the fact that it is family owned and the owner will probably be the one serving you. Located in Clifton, this walk up served restaurant was just perfect for my trip and had time to make it to the movies! This is a bowl of heaven. The small is a nice lunch size and the large a good dinner size. The combination of flavors is unlike any cuisine I've ever had: Asian, Spanish, Mexican, Middle Eastern. I am not a vegetarian but it was so satisfying I did not miss the meat. It literally includes all the food groups and is beautiful in addition. I drive 40 minutes across town every week or two just to have a bowl! Pair it with the excellent excellent Skinny Piggy kombucha. read more

We love the Whole Bowl--I just wish they had a real restaurant. I was first introduced to the Whole Bowl by my boss. I loved days when a working lunch was required because that meant we would be ordering Whole Bowl for delivery. After beginning to work from home, I missed that fabulous bambino bowl and so introduced my teen/pre-teen daughters to the Whole Bowl by going and standing on the sidewalk. They loved it too. The Whole Bowl is a small business that started in Portland and has expanded to a little walk-up window nestled in the Clifton Gaslight district of Cincinnati. They specialize in wholesome bowls packed with brown rice, black & red beans, avocado, cilantro, black olives, Tillamook cheddar, sour cream, salsa, and their special Tali sauce. They're meat, nut, gluten, and guilt free and can easily be made vegan. I love the simplicity of their menu and how filling and flavorful their bowls are. When I first saw this place, I thought.. "Is this going to be filling?" and "This sounds kind of boring and I could just make this at home". Well, I was totally proven wrong and it certainly is filling and packs so much flavor from each of your food groups! The Tali sauce and the variety of ingredients are what make this place shine - just try it and you'll know what I mean. The prices are super reasonable for how filling they are; the Big Bowl is plenty even if you're ravenous and the Bambino size would be perfect if you're just moderately hungry. The place is a walk up where you order through a window. No place to eat inside, although Clifton Plaza or Burnett Woods are nearby if the weather is nice (or take it back to work if you're eating it in your lunch break). The people were friendly and the service was good overall. I liked that they have a small cart with sauces next to the window. Everything seemed to be healthy (if you don't like dairy, you can "veganize" your bowl). Unfortunately, the beans in the bowl I got were really overcooked and hard. I'm guessing this is just a bug they will work out since they've only been open a few days. Overall, it's nice to have a quick healthy option in Ludlow. read more

At first glance you may not realize that this walk up window has some of the healthiest, most delicious food in Clifton. Simple, delicious and quick, this is a great place to grab lunch or dinner for something that leaves you satisfied, happy and wanting to go back again soon. At first glance I thought it would not satisfy my dinner needs for some reason and was pleasantly surprised the first time we ate there that I was full, with both great food and happiness afterwards. I would check out the sign out front, all the ingredients are included but don't hesitate to ask to leave something out if you don't want it, ie the olives for me. The bowls come in 2 sizes and for dinner I recommend the larger bowl, you can always put the rest in the fridge if you can't finish but I made the mistake one time to get the smaller bowl and wanted more while I was scraping the bowl, it is just that good. I think the best part is the sauce, have no idea what is in it but my mouth is currently watering as I am typing this review, SO GOOD! If you want something extra, tortilla chips are only $1 and you get a small bag to dip and enjoy with your meal. It really is a great place to try and we are lucky that Clifton finally got one!! read more

For six dollars, you get a big, filling bowl that is healthy and delicious. The ingredients were all fresh and worked well together, especially with the Tali sauce. I probably eat at The Whole Bowl 1-2 times a week. I love it. The food is always fresh, tasty, and extremely fast. The flavors all work so well together. I was actually quite impressed with this place. It's quick and simple. The Tali sauce is amazing with the bowl and I love that it has whole foods in it. I was there early so I was able to see their kombucha come in from an every day car, not one of those huge commercial trucks. I'm assuming that it's local kombucha then, which is a huge plus. I'm all about supporting local businesses. The meal sizes seemed a bit small at first, but it satiates you just fine. Portion control I suppose. :). The guy working seemed a bit scattered(didn't have everything out, forgetting sides ordered), but he was friendly enough. I'm sure it was just the morning fog that clouds the brain sometimes. Every time I am in Portland I go The Whole Bowl at least twice while I'm there. Fast service and Healthy too. Found a bench and chowed down on our bowls.
