It was top three best things I have eaten in my life. You can tell that every single dish and flavor is carefully thought out. Stopped in last night for a fish fry. We both decided to have the Smash Burger instead. Absolutely delicious - easily one of the best burgers in Milwaukee. Brisket slathered in garlic goat cheese. Sadly, the Loaded Bloody Mary's Loaded items were old as did the mix tasted like. My girts were ok but they were sweet not at all what I was expecting I didn't finish them. I won't be back. I hesitate to write this at the risk of having to deal with crowds in the future, but run don't walk to this restaurant!!! Had dinner there this evening and LOVELOVELOVED everything about my experience! Billed as a "seed to table" concept, this new establishment in West Allis of all places is a foodie paradise!!! This chef knows his way around melding flavors and ingredients! I had the butternut squash soup for my app and my friend had the shishedo peppers. My soup was deliciously lighter and more broth-y (is that a word?) than the usual thick preparations, and held a perfectly poached egg for a silky richness when broken open, along with some sharper notes from blue cheese crumbles--an unexpected, but amazing blend of flavors. My friend's shishedo peppers were more Asian in flavors with an expert balance of salty soy with tangy pickled onions and mild pepper--charred for a smokey finish. For my main I had the beetroot salad, which was so amazing I had to stop myself from inhaling it and licking the serving plate (which was an interesting piece of slate!). Again as with the soup, each bite was a harmony of flavors from earthy (beets) to tangy (goat cheese fondant "sauce") to sweet (orange segments). There was some type of spice which I couldn't quite identify but it definitely added to overall interest of what could easily have been a ho-hum salad at any other restaurant! My friend had a grilled romaine and fried octopus salad which she said was also amazing. Not an easy protein to handle, she said it was expertly cooked! One odd note, there is no outdoor signage marking the restaurant, or at least none that we could see. Neither, it seemed, could the tour group, who fortunately eventually came in. I'm guessing this is a fault of being new, and it might work in my favor for now, but once word gets out about the quality of the food here there will be very long wait times!!! read more

Heard raving reviews but the hype didn't live up and was left disappointed. Went for brunch and the options were limited, so wasn't able to order what I came to try based off the online menu. Ordered the lox & bagel and was given an odd number of salmon for 2 semi burnt bagel halves. Received a conservative portioned out quantity of delicious capper cream cheese to spread onto them. I suggest to go with a medium boiled egg because the hard boil yolk was borderline green aka chalk. Tried the special which was the brisket burger and could have been more aggressively seasoned and could have done without the pulled pork. Also tried the pork schnitzel and it had delicious profiles. Tried the general breakfast of 2 eggs, toast, ham and potatoes and wasn't impressed for such a basic. Toast was burnt, ham overcooked (syrup is what saved it but only for 1 slice), the potatoes were weakly seasoned with no herbs added, fried eggs weren't seasoned. Anodyne Coffee is the local brand they use and they chose a light roast (not juicy but bright and tart) I think it's great coffee. I'll be back for dinner one day but for my 1st time at Wild Roots i was left disappointed. read more

Stopped in today for the first time and I was blown away. The place is beautiful with an updated decor. The staff was extremely friendly and always willing to answer questions I had. The food was on point for exactly what I was looking for. (Came in for brunch) This new place is going to be a huge hit in this up and coming part of West Allis. Fourth time dining here with coworkers, each time wanting it to be better than the last time. However, service at lunch is extremely slow and our waiter Mauricio was extremely rude to us when we asked if it was going to be ready soon. Literally snapped back and said "well we have a really small kitchen, and there are a bunch of tables". There were four (4) other tables! Cheese shop across the street manages in a small kitchen and is 20 times busier and they get it out! It was the first time for two of us, and they didn't care much for the food, thought waiter was rude and overall they said it was a "weird" dining experience for them...first timers who will not be going back. The portions are extremely small for what you pay, especially since fries or salad are not included. Maybe it's a different experience for dinner! read more

After viewing Christmas lights on Candy Cane Lane was looking for a quiet restaurant for a light late night healthy dinner. Was thrilled to find this amazing restaurant in West Allis that has a changing menu with fresh seasonal ingredients and unique meat and seafood choices. My friend had octopus and I had gnocchi and it was fabulous. This was topped off with amazing apple cider and peanut butter whiskey cocktail. Service was exceptional. We ate dinner here on a Tuesday night and it was overall really, really good! My order included the 'soup of the day' (squash based) and their beet salad. Both were fresh and the flavors in each came through very nicely. I also ordered their meatballs which had a nice flavor but were packed too dense or were a little over cooked. I'm not sure which. Two others in our group ordered the meatloaf and one ordered a burger. They were all pleased with the their choice. I also had their homemade ginger mango sorbet. The ginger came through quite potently. It was great. Our waitress was attentive and she able to answer all of our questions. We were surprised to find out that she had only worked at Wild Roots for less than two weeks. We were pleased and we will return soon. read more

Simply amazing! Very unique menu, cool atmosphere, and incredible staff. I took a group of clients here and everything was outstanding. We ordered the wild boar meatballs in a kimchi and sesame sauce.. absolutely delicious. All the guys had one their amazing burgers .. these aren't just any burgers. It is a blend of brisket and spices topped with an egg. Truly amazing. I had the salmon blt made with Nueskes bacon no less plus avocado; absolutely delicious. The Chef came out to say hello. My husband and I have noticed this new restaurant in the area and have wanted to stop in for so long! We finally got the chance tonight! We walked to Wild Roots for a night cap and got so much more! The community/environment is so welcoming, we were able to chat with some regulars and were properly introduced to the menu by the employees; it felt like we had become part of their family. Even though we had come for a drink, we know we will be back for the amazing food and familiar conversation! The atmosphere is upscale and trendy with the food and service to match. We cannot wait to go back! The brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday from 10-2 is to die for! The menu rotates with the season so you know the food you are served is fresh and in season. Beautiful newish restaurant in West Allis. We ordered the bread plate, octopus, shishito peppers, and the chicken thigh sandwich. Our server was friendly and attentive (as was the hostess). Unfortunately she didn't tell us the specials and we forgot to ask so we missed out on the fish fry. Disappointed in bread plate-there were several pieces of the same homemade bread and butter but I believe it was described as assorted breads and condiments. The octopus was beautifully cooked and seasoned. Enjoyed the peppers and the chicken sandwich. Loved there was a choice of fries or salad with sandwich. Decent beer list and good cocktails. I had a rum punch. I would love to return for brunch sometime. I was also impressed with their dinnerware. I don't usually notice plates in restaurants but I really liked them. read more

Had lunch here on a Thursday in March. I had the Salmon BLT with salad and my chum had the special, a steak sandwich with fries. We shared the hummus and veggies. The hummus was very good, a little more lemon than garlic. My salad was perfectly dressed and the tomatoes were somehow RIPE! The salmon was cooked like I asked and delicious. The only thing I would have changed was that the bread was a grainy, seedy type and I would have preferred softer white, but that is just personal preference. My companion's hanger steak had great flavor and between that and the melted cheese that kept the whole thing in the baguette, it was pretty much the perfect sandwich. I am looking forward many more delicious meals here! read more

Great start for this new resto in West Allis. Interesting menu and great staff service. The sauces for our dishes ( mussels, gnocchi) were rich and complex and did justice to the food. Wine was priced reasonably (and on Tuesdays it's priced twice as reasonably - half off bottles). I don't normally post reviews if I have a bad experience at a restaurant. Most restaurants when sent back undercooked chicken will take the entire plate for concerns of salmonella, Wild Roots was not the case. We were served an undercooked chicken breast on top of our salad - visibly pink in the center, you could see where the chicken turns from raw to cooked. I don't understand how the chefs even let this go out for service after slicing the chicken to plate the salad. After letting our waitress know the issue, she took the chicken and put it on a plate to bring back and left us with the salad even though the undercooked chicken was ON THE SALAD. We were left with a salad that had raw chicken on top of it. Waitress told us the chicken needed maybe 20 seconds to finish, and began talking about how only undercooked pork was bad. Chicken came back out the same way she placed it on the plate when she took it. This only meant that they microwaved the chicken to finish cooking it. The other food we ordered and bloody marys were delicious, however the way the restaurant handled the raw chicken dish was unacceptable. It is one thing to miss a plate going out - and I let this slide. But, then to misinform the customers about how raw chicken is not incredibly terrible AND to leave us the salad plate that the chicken was on is another level. This restaurant may need to send their employees to culinary school so they could learn how foodborne illnesses happen before their restaurant gets shut down. read more

I have just found my new favorite restaurant. My family usually dine out 3-5 times per week and I am saddened that it has taken me this long to find out about it. The flavors of the dishes were mind blowing. We started with Grilled Asparagus,Watermelon salad, Shushitto peppers and I was impressed. Then the entrees, Gnocchis, Pasta Cavatapi, Wild Boar schnitzel and Salmon. That's when I was amazed. We finished with Banana bread pudding with caramel apple ice cream and a deconstructed marscapone cheesecake. That's when my mind was blown. So good I had to thank the chef/owner and the staff for such a great dinner experience. The food, the staff, the atmosphere was all great. Even my teenage foodies were amazed.
