Wilderness Trio really went above and beyond, leading up to the women's Half Dome hike was a gamble, cables were delayed due to the weather patterns. I had many concerns, ...it had just snowed the week before and fear was settling in my trust was being tested. I almost cancelled the trip due to weather, and family challenges but I took that leap of faith, after several emails and personal calls to chris who put my mind at ease. Arriving i had all the feels as I ventured into yosemie I knew I was home and God had a plan... I met Jen and instantly knew it was going to be an awesome 4 days! The nerves settled and the hike- began! Waters were raging first night for camp thunder roared aand sprinkles fell but that didn't stop anyone from enjoying the time getting to know one another... let me tell you Jen Can Cook! Who knew dehydrated chicken was taste so good Second and third night still eating like kings, other backpackers were a little envious cracking jokes a we shared photos of our gourmet meals Jen allowed space for everyoneto be their self and room for fun and laughs as one night hike- we watched the sunset then played in a random water fall splashing in puddles along the trail being silly. We Had a Great Experience at Zion National Park, Utah with Chris and Josh. My first time Camping and hiking was better than i thought. Chris and Josh took care of our experience with the hiking guides which helped a-lot since we didn't know where to go and what time to leave to avoid the massive Heard of People. I see lots of 5 stars which is great & why I booked it! BUT I wish I knew more of what a "level 3" excursion would have entailed. Did a YoseMitE camping 3 day trip with WTrio that was rated as a level 3. I'm not sure how they do the ratings of their trips but I would definitely inquire before hand! If you're very new to camping, walking trails and having lots of down time this would probably have been rated as a 5 star. However, when being ranked as a level 3 for excursion type I would have to disagree or atleast I should have asked for what that definition would entail. In the emails between Chris it sounded like we were going to hike a bunch and see epic things! However day 1 we walked around covered wagons and cabins for a little history talk then called it a day/night. Day 2 we mostly drove stop go stop go where the guides were discussing and still trying to plan what to see/where to go. The itinerary called for part of the well known '4 mile trail' for views (which we never did), we walked to see some things and did a couple miles of a waterfall trail and back to the campground around 3pm, done for the day. There was a"night hike" promised on the itinerary that was never done either. It was then that I decided I didn't spend $300 to just eat their food and have a place to put my tent. So I actually left the group everyday to go see/explore what Yosemite had to offer and it was gorgeous! I know that it seemed most people in the Group were more beginners which I loved they were there but maybe it should have been ranked as an easier level trip. And I actually felt bad they spent all that money and didn't even get to see the amazing parts of the park that are an EASY drive and short walk to see some amazing views and sunsets. For example, the drive to glacier point was close to our campground and you get out of the car without even needing to walk and it's an epic view and sunset (not sure why this isn't on the agenda) I'm grateful I took my time to go do my own thing and definitely regret spending the money for the group. I legit thought it was going to be good "gourmet-camp type" for every meal. We had cold milk and cereal for breakfast one day, made our own sandwiches for lunches & while their advertisement specifically stated "we don't serve mac & cheese we make filets" WE ate MaC n cheese one eve and no filets were had. I was looking forward to meeting new people in the group experience but I guess if I would have known that a level 3 trip entails little bits of walking and not seeing some of the most beautiful spots in the park I would never have wasted my money and time. Pros: if you're a new beginner (ranked as level 3) you may have been happy with the little activity/sights that were seen. Back to the campground by 3/4 everyday. They have all your chairs, food, cooked everything for you, stuff to make sandwiches for your lunches, firewood, your place to put a tent was covered in the price. Meet new people that have similar activity level as you. Cons: Foods served was not worth 300 dollars a person. I could have eaten out for those meals. The teeny bits the group got to see of the amazing park NOT worth the money. Still pay to get into the park, drive your own vehicle around, extra costs for them to bring you a tent/camping gear, never made aware that the only facility was a porta potty (no bathroom/shower), itinerary not followed (no big deal on that but we hardly saw any of the views or parts of the park that there was time for which wouldn't have required much fitness level), mornings were chilllllly and no fires in the am. One girl asked and was told that sometimes they make morning fires. I just feel like for the money spent it was not worth guided easy trails, lack of the epic views and food was mehhhhhh. I know that's a rant but just wanted people who want to really see most parts of the park with somewhat of actual hikes to do...I wouldn't waste your money bc you could do it on your own for way cheaper and see so many things the group didn't get to see. Advice to WT: explain your ranking of these levels a little better and Offer different excursion options for the different type of activity levels the group may have. Do Glacier Pt for sunset!!! What's offered in the itinerary should actually be offered on the trip. read more

I went on the Camp and Hike Zion Adventure. This trip was absolutely amazing. Before we started we received emails from Chris letting us know the details on what to bring, where to meet and his phone number. The day of, we met at the Walmart right outside of the National Park so we could pick up any last minute things that we needed. After we were done, we drove to the park and our campsite. Chris was constantly coming over to see if we were ok setting up our stuff and letting us know they were there to help if we needed anything. Since we got there a little later in the day, we set out on a quick mini hike on a trail that started in the campgrounds. When we came back, they had a dinner ready for us. I am vegetarian and another woman is gluten free. Both of us were well taken care of. Day 2 we set off for Angel's Landing. This was a strenuous hike but the whole Wilderness Trio group was so understanding of all of the different abilities. There was always someone in the front of the group and the back of the group even if we were spread out over a long distance. Josh was especially great with my friend because she is scared of heights. He stayed with us the entire time when we got to the part that gets a little nerve racking and made sure she felt safe. It helped me out a ton because I didn't have to worry as much about her and I could enjoy myself a little more. After that hike Josh took a group of us and we headed to the emerald pools. That was a pretty short easy hike com paired to Angel's Landing. When we got back Chris was all about river tubing...We were hesitant because of how cold and tired we were but if Chris says it will be a good time, believe him....We had a blast! The water was cold but it felt great on our tired legs and there were so many laughs. I hate being cold and I loved every second of it. Day 3 we went to The Narrows. Chris said this would ruin every other hike for you. He was absolutely right. This was so beautiful! To the point I was already planning my next trip in my head. We rented the water boots and pants because the water was cold but it was worth it. We had so much fun Josh, again, was right there when me and another girl went exploring and wanted to climb to see in a cave. After we finished there, we went to a Ghost Town, a cemetery from the 1800s, and went on a mini impromptu night hike. It was awesome. Every night we had a fire and smores. Almost every morning we had a fire to warm up after the cold nights. Things that I can suggest if you make the awesome decision to take this trip with these wonderful people... Bring clothes that dry quickly. Bring closed toe sandals that you can hike in. Bring food that is easy to eat on the go because it is non stop in a great way. Lots of sunscreen. Bring a very warm sleeping bag. The showers are a little ways away so bring baby wipes for a quick freshening up. If you have never camped before, rent the gear. The guys will help you set everything up. Don't be nervous about trying something new with them. They really will make everything easy for you. Although I've done a good deal of hiking previously, I only just went on my first backpacking trip (1 night to learn if I would enjoy it or not) this past weekend. It was a private group, and Chris from Wilderness Trio took us out. Most of the gear was included (you can rent stuff you may not already have), some food was included, and a lot of learning was included! Chris taught us how to pack our backpacks, how to wear them for the most comfort, and info about packs we might buy later. He gave us info about recommended (and not recommended) gear for backpacking, he taught us some wilderness first aid and Leave No Trace info, and he cooked dinner and breakfast for us. Additionally, I don't do dry heat well without going slow and steady, with lots of water and a cool towel on my neck, and it was hotter than both of my weather apps predicted (80 F), but Chris and my group were all nice about it, and great about staying within visual distance when I had to take a few more "photo ops" than they did. :) Overall, it was a great experience and I've learned that I DO enjoy backpacking and will do it more now! I stayed in one of the cottages in the historic district of Crystal Cove State Park. The cottages only come with a microwave oven, so I rented both a camp stove and a propane grill from Wilderness Trio. Chris had someone deliver it right to the cottage drop-off site. The equipment was clean and worked perfectly. (Note: no need to buy matches because both the stove and grill are self-igniting.) If you are staying in a Crystal Cover cottage and want to cook meals yourself, I definitely recommend that you rent these. read more

Just got back from a weekend trip to Zion National Park with Wilderness Trio and it was honestly breathtaking! From the moment we drove to our campground to when we left, the entire time I was in awe of the beauty that surrounded me. Absolutely amazing! We arrived at the campground on Thursday afternoon and our group went on a warm-up hike led by Josh after settling in. He took us on the Watchman's Trail. Half-way up we started to feel rain drops and proceeded back down the trail after taking in all the beautiful sights from that spot. Then came the rain! It was cold, but welcomed after a hot afternoon. You would have thought this would have put a damper on the start of the trip, but it was so refreshing and not without it's MANY laughs. Our group was so cool we all said "THIS is the start of a great adventure!" The next day we did The Narrows and Josh was right when he said "This hike will ruin all other hikes!" It was BY FAR my favorite hike! (Tip: wear hiking boots and use a stability stick!) The trail is flat, no incline, which is nice, just rocky, so wear hiking boots! Word of advice: don't forget to look up at the beauty! I caught myself looking down a lot as to not trip on the rocks. After the hike, we got back to camp and had time to relax! Our campground was on the Virgin River so sitting in their super comfy camping chairs on the river with a real life rushing water soundtrack is PERFECTION! We obviously had s'mores around the campfire to cap an exciting day! Saturday was the ultimate test of perseverance. Unfortunately, Angel's Landing was closed due to a storm that hit in July, but the backup was a hike to Observation Point. It. Was. A. Doozy. Even though we had different levels of abilities, our WHOLE GROUP made it up to the top! It had the most gorgeous views and you can even get a great glimpse of Angels Landing! It honestly was breathtaking and quite the accomplishment. At the top we took an extra minute to realize the extent of the hike and how we all conquered it! After that hike, more relaxing was on the schedule and was much needed. Josh took us all out for pizza for dinner and our group bonded even more. Another great campfire where we played games and enjoyed our last night together. This was an unforgettable trip and can't thank Josh and Wilderness Trio enough for the experience. Wonderful customer service from Chris, along with great quality rental gear. I rented a 0 degree sleeping bag which was clean, 3 sleeping pads, as well as a backpacking cooking system. Not only was Chris extremely prompt in contacting me to confirm the rental, but after returning the gear, proceeded to refund the rental fees for the cooking system that I didn't make use of because I couldn't get an appropriately sized fuel can. Words cannot describe the incredible time I had on this adventure! We spent 3 days/2 nights in the Sequoia National Park. To add to the 'excitement' we camped through a severe snow storm but honestly, that only added to the fun! It was my first time snowshoeing and my first time carrying a 30 pound pack. They provided the backpack, tent, pad, sleeping bag and snowshoes...plus the best camp food around! The gear was all top notch and if there were any issues at all, the guides gave up their comforts to ensure we were taken care of. There wasn't one time that I felt uncertain or nervous. Chris, Noah and Josh were our guides and made this trip so incredible! They made sure each of us were comfortable and provided a lot of comic relief. The hikes were challenging but doable. The views were mind blowing. The serenity was so calming. This was an experience I will never forget and I'm so grateful to the Wilderness Trio for offering these adventures and taking the time and effort to introduce so many to nature! Our guide, Chris, was knowledgeable, caring, and just fun to be with...someone you'd love to just throw down a beer with! We hiked the Narrows in Zion from top to bottom with an overnight stay at the campgrounds in the canyon. From the very beginning, Chris had everything we needed. The dry suits, boots, and backpacks fit well. He made sure we had the essentials (ie. Head lamp, basic toiletries, tents, sleeping bags, trash bags, etc.). He did all the cooking, cleanup, and even tent setup. He showed a level of experience that you would expect from a guide. Throughout the hike he made sure that our needs were being met. He even did all the camera shots that I would have liked to have taken, but did it as part of the service. That way all we had to do was enjoy the hike! Being a busy CPA with no prior backpacking experience, it was great to have Chris obtain all the required permits, gear, and food for the trip. I look forward to another WildernessTrio trip. DONT GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!!! These guys are absolutely amazing and extremely helpful. I was heading out to Joshua Tree and was in need of some rental gear for camping. I browsed the website to see if they had what I needed, and was shocked at their selection of gear available to rent for very affordable prices!! I rented a sleeping bag, two thermal pads and a solar charger for USB devices. This is my first time ever renting camping gear from a company, and as such I was a little worried the gear might not be up to par, or you could tell it was extremely used. In the case of their gear, this was not the case! The sleeping bag I got seemed like it was brand new and kept me warm through the cold Joshua Tree nights. When I went to pick up the gear, Chris took his time to talk to me about Joshua Tree and recommend campgrounds, places to rock climb and sights we needed to see. Overall, if I could give my experience with these guys 10 stars I would!!
