This is the best place to eat on the mountain. They are smoking the meat right there! Great spot to stop in, warm up, and get some great BBQ. Get there before the lunch rush to make sure you get a seat. Tables by the windows have a beautiful view of the mountain. When the weather is warmer you can sit outside. Stopped here for a late afternoon lunch and was stoked to find a delicious menu of smoked goods! Seating outdoors is plentiful but inside is limited so plan ahead if you have a large group. My favorite was the 1/2 rack of ribs which were smoked to perfection, juicy, had a good amount of bark and a nice smoke line. The menu has salads, pulled pork, brisket etc...You can also grab some chili or Mac-n-cheese if that suits your taste buds. Service here was excellent. Attendants ensured the tables were cleared off promptly to make sure guests had a clean space to eat. Although the food is delicious it IS pricey... $18 for the ribs... This is Vail's BEST on mountain food. Yes, they smoke the meats right outside at the top of the mountain. The day we went they were only offering sandwiches, but that suited us just fine. It's on-mountain dining, so yes, it's expensive, but honestly after shredding up the mountain, I didn't care. My ski school instructor tipped me off that the BBQ here was awesome and it was definitely the best meal I had in Vail. This is legit BBQ. When you're nearby, you can smell the wood burning that used to smoke the meats. You walk in and order cafeteria style. I got the 2 Mile High Plate ($26.75), which included three meats, cornbread and a choice of French fries or Mac n cheese. I split the plate with a friend and it was enough for both of us to refuel to ski for a few more hours. They have picnic tables outside Wildwood where you can eat. Vail: a resort so massive and beautiful, guys will pack out gear to set up their own BBQ in some remote corner of the back bowls. For those of us without the strength or know-how, thankfully there's Wildwood Smokehouse. All the stunning views, all the smokey, delicious meat, and they're open until 3pm so you can stop in for a super late lunch and basically have the place to yourself! $25 got the two of us a mile-high platter piled with so much meat, we couldn't even finish it all though it was 2:45pm and the last thing we'd eaten was a single hard-boiled egg and a slice of toast at 7:30am (so you can imagine how ravenous we were). The ribs were so tender and flavorful - no BBQ sauce needed. Some people *ahem* who opted for the chicken instead of the ribs kept trying to steal bites, that's how good they smelled when they arrived. The pulled pork was super moist and so flavorful, I didn't really need to add BBQ sauce. That being said, Wildwood has three choices of BBQ sauce, all delicious, so of course we tried them! We loved it all, but our favorite cut was the brisket - definitely, definitely order it. The waffle fries were great as well. I also got to try the onion rings, and they were good, but I'd choose the waffle fries any day (and I notoriously don't like fries). Frankly, Vail is a very expensive resort. At Two Elk, I once got a hot chocolate and a small bag of subpar fries and somehow spent around $15 - still have no idea how. So $25 for a lunch platter so big, two skiers literally weak with hunger still couldn't finish it is just about the best deal you'll find on the mountain. (Also, make sure you show them your Epic Pass if you have one - Wildwood offers a discount!) And as others have mentioned, Wildwood is very small - if you're at Vail on the weekend or during the holidays, go very early or very late to avoid the lunch rush. If you prefer to eat at more normal times, one of the lodges would probably be the better route. read more

Came here all 4 days I skied in Vail. Some of the best BBQ I've had, and definitely the best lunch option on the mountain. Get the combo with the pulled pork sandwich. Pro tip: you can get two sides instead of soup and a side. Get the Mac & cheese as one of the sides, it won't disappoint. All 3 BBQ sauces are amazing as well, so be sure to try those! Prepared to spend on-the-mountain money! The smoker wafts a ridiculously amazing, smoky fragrance through the air that hits you as soon as you get off Wildwood Express 3. All the food we had was flavorful but got cold very quickly, for obvious reasons. We ordered a 2 mile high plater with brisket, 1/4 rack of ribs, pulled pork, cornbread and fries with a beer and a Red Bull and paid $40. Ouch! But it was worth it. Wildwood Smokehouse is the only on mountain barbecue restaurant in Vail. The restaurant does brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, smoked sausages and ribs all on premises in their large smoker out in front of the restaurant. Wildwood is located at the top of the Wildwood Express lift also near the top of the Game Creek Express. The restaurant has the main dining room near the smokers as well as an express restaurant with an abbreviated sandwich oriented menu. The food quality is very good with the pulled pork being the standout amongst the main meats. The ribs and brisket are prepared with a dry rub before smoking that has a little too much cumin for me but all are well made and fresh daily. If you are a barbecue lover and skiing at Vail you have to head to Wildwood Smokehouse for lunch. read more

Lunch on the mountain is normally a frustrating experience. It is normally overpriced and bland, but Wildwood is the exception. The chicken and wild rice soup was outstanding, and the pulled pork sandwich was solid even by Texas standards. You can get a great lunch for a reasonable price. For a place on the mountain, that is a rare find. read more

My uncle was saying that the meat is better because it is cooked at high elevation. I don't know if that is true. The brisket was excellent though. I also had the pulled pork which was good. They are on top of the mountain and also have a stand at the Farmer's Market. I would recommend going for some quality BBQ. read more

Make sure to get here early if you're planning on having lunch here. It gets really busy and there aren't many places to sit inside. I'm not really a bbq person but everyone wanted to come here. For those non bbq lovers there are plenty of other options for you! The Mac n cheese is to die for, it's so good. I also had chicken tenders which were really big, kinda disappointed they didn't automatically come with French fries though (if you're a light eater order the kids version it comes with fries). The onion rings looked better than they actually were. And I also got to try a bite of the corn bread which was a little too dry. I think this place is probably more expensive than other restaurants on the mountain. Overall this place probably wouldn't be my first choice. read more

A stranger on a lift told me it was the best BBQ he ever had. I don't know about that but it is certainly one of the best on-mountain treats that Vail has to offer. No question that a messy tray of BBQ and sides hits the spot on a cold snowy day. My favorites are the pulled pork, the cornbread and the mac and cheese. The ribs were good too. Great BBQ restaurant at the top of Wildwood lift! I got the 2 Mile meal which includes 3 meats (I chose brisket, pulled pork, and ribs), cornbread, and a side (I got a salad instead). There are 3 BBQ sauces at every wooden table and everything was very delicious, even compared to similar restaurants not at ski resorts. I arrived around 2PM and the line was took about 20 minutes to get through. The line is somewhat interesting as the walls are decorated with articles and history of the restaurant. Barely anyone got in line after me so going later in the day is definitely recommended, especially if you have a big group and want several seats together. Would definitely recommend to hungry skiiers/boarders going to Vail. Be sure to plan out your runs prior to getting here to avoid being late or having to hike up! Yesterday we ate in the village. Today we opted to eat on the hill, much better experience and the food was awesome. For $15 I highly recommend the combo platter with the 1/2 pork sandwich, veggie chili and Mac and cheese all were excellent. You definitely get $15 worth of food.
