driving North on Hwy 5 and we needed to eat. Google showed me two fast food restaurants, an Italian restaurant and Williams Chinese Restaurant. Chinese it is. This is a pretty basic restaurant and right now they are doin take out only. Fine. We ordered Vegetable Delight, steamed rice and Crispy Beef. On the recommendation of the young man at the desk, we drove a couple of miles up the highway to eat at a restaurant ( elegant surroundings maybe, but there were trees and a breeze) The food was delicious! The vegetables were fresh and crispy and the crispy beef and broccoli were just pleasantly spicy. Everyone that we interacted with was so nice and the food was exactly what we hoped for. Let's start with what I didn't like - the menu generally doesn't list the dish ingredients, except for the main ingredient (chicken, pork, etc.), so you have to ask about everything if there's a particular veggie/nut you want, or need to avoid. Next, their dishes don't include rice - you have to pay extra. I'd estimate that 90% of Chinese restaurants provide unlimited rice at no extra cost, and why not, it's practically free for them - just adjust your menu prices slightly. Here they charge an exorbitant $1.25 for a teacup full of rice! They're the only Chinese restaurant in town, so it's not like they have to be competitive with their entree prices. Third complaint - waiter doesn't know the menu. He said the crispy beef has "just a little" broccoli. In fact, it had 6 large florets, about 1/3 or more or the dish. I also ordered my dish "extra spicy," but it wasn't at all spicy. Throwing in a few extra dried chili peppers doesn't really add any heat to a dish. It seems that Chinese restaurants in general don't understand what spicy means. Spicy means hot - that's why spicy dishes are often indicated on the menu with a little chili pepper. For example Orange Chicken/Beef is almost always shown as a "spicy" dish, yet I can't remember an orange dish at any restaurant that I would describe as anything but mild. I guess salt is a spice, so if you added a bunch of extra salt you could say that it's "spicy." But when you indicate spicy dishes with a little chili pepper, spicy should mean spicy-hot, nothing else. I had dined here once before, several years ago, but I forgot to review it and didn't remember how I liked my meal. Since I stay in Williams regularly, I'll remember to skip Williams Chinese Restaurant in the future. read more

Very unhappy with the lack of communication, menu, and prices. Went there on 8-12-2022 to order a couple of lunch specials to go as they are take out only. The server said there's no specials and didn't offer any suggestions as to how we can get something similar so ordered Mongolian beef, crispy beef, and chow mein and tried some egg rolls and pot stickers...assuming these would be personal entree sizes, again server didn't show us the sizes of containers nor explain what the prices would be like...after it was rung up the total came out to $49 and there was a line starting so I just said ok and went with it. Well after all was said and done food was mediocre at best and we ended up tossing 2/3 of the food away. Would not return nor recommend! read more

Never expected to find such good road-trip food on I5. Had to get takeout because it was way too hot to leave dog in the car. Ordered food en route, ready for pickup 20 min later - just as we arrived. Right off highway, next to gas station. Not a charming location but forget all that. Restaurant was busy (good sign!) with no wait for a table. Despite how crowded the restaurant was, it was super quiet. I looked around and everyone was just focused on devouring their food! Have been coming here for years every time we pass through. Closed on Mondays though. You can park in the McDonald's parking lot for RVs and Semis. If you get there by 5-6pm usually can get a Parkin spot. Or park around the corner by motels. read more

The waitress, a young lady was SO RUDE, looking annoyed as we changed our order as the food description was unclear (pork wasn't mentioned on the menue), they only have tap water, doesnt say anything when we say Thank you. I asked what type of sauce was coming with my sizzling shrimps and she answered 'brown sauce', I tried to make her elaborate on the flavor... impossible to know more. The food was very bland and oily. Won't come back! I put 2 stars for the other waiter (son of the owner as he said when I asked him), he was very polite, helpful and simply nice to talk to. read more

You could eat it, but you would likely be unhappy. The Mongolian Beef is saturated with garlic from a jar, and tastes more like disinfectant to me than a beef dish. Everything else we had including orange beef, pot stickers and fried rice, was lackluster in execution and lacking flavor. We won't be back. Here again, I see a 4 star rating and wonder if anyone understands what decent food is. read more

Oh dear, the yelp filers have struck. This is my last review and I'm terminating my account with yelp... after 3 years as an elite reviewer and over 900 useful votes. I have over 40,000 readers on another site, which reviews my writing BEFORE they post it. I'm confident I did not use "inappropriate language", as yelp claims, about this restaurant. I said this restaurant did not taste like chinese food that I'm used to eating nor did it taste like any asian food. I'm asian, born and raised. My family owns asian restaurants. It removed my 1 star review today..... 3-4 years AFTER I wrote it. I noticed all the other 1 to 2 star reviews are gone as well. Hmmm....read the news about yelp and you'll get a better idea. I don't know what algorithm yelp is using to remove reviews but I'm not interested in posting to it any longer. The lunch specials were very reasonably priced and pretty good. No complaints about the food but at least one of the waitresses would do well with an attitude adjustment. We'd go back again for a nice inexpensive lunch. My wife and got food poisoning from this place. I'll spare you all the symptoms but suffice to say my wife's were mild and mine were more severe. First, I have to respond to the one and only review by Gerry. Gerry, you have to ask for chopsticks! They don't bring them to you automatically like most Chinese restaurants that don't cater to exclusively Chinese patrons. We asked for chopsticks and they were brought to us promptly. We had the lunch specials. My Orange Chicken was a little better than average with a nice sauce which didn't have enough spiciness for my liking. I prefer my OC a little more crunchy, but again I guess that is a personal preference. In all, I wasn't disappointed in the meal and I found the service prompt and polite. So we live 30 minutes to the closest restaurant in the boon docks of California. Thankfully for my boyfriend and I the closest restaurant is William's Chinese Restaurant. How disappointing that they won't serve you what you want. I wanted a lunch special. Came in 4 minutes late. So no lunch special. Ok. Can I pay more for the plate I won't. No. But they have no dinners that come with egg foo young. You have to pay 9.00 to get 4 egg foo young's. Well. I wanted 1 with rice and something else but don't want to pay a crazy price by having to buy everything in bulk. They need to redo there dinner menu or let someone pay slightly more for the lunch menus when ordering after lunch. But they didn't want to do anything so I didn't order anything. Holy delish!!! Couldn't have been more surprised at how good the food was at this place. Our kiddos wanted Chinese on our return from Lassen. Siri pointed us here and we were so glad she did. Selected dishes included: Potstickers, lemon chicken, House special fried rice, Mongolian Beef, and Chicken Satay. All were fabulous. This Chinese restaurant is pretty darn good. My uncle even went as far as to say one of the best he has eaten. I was actually surprised how tasty it actually was because its in the middle of no where. Our food came out rather quick, and there was TONS. I ordered the orange chicken meal. This place is a life saver when your tired of fast food. Our family stops here everytime we pass by Williams,we always leave happy. Chinese-American food, my darling wife says it's "some of the best", and I agree. This isn't PF Chang style food, it's better. It took a while for them to take our orders and to hand us our bill. It's not the best Chinese food but it will satisfy you. My first time in the restaurant last night. I've been coming to Williams for 3 years and completely overlooked this place. The food was good but it's hard to separate the food and the surroundings. They influence each other. Some of the bench seats are torn open and I found a jacket under the table. There's no attempt at decorations. The bathroom are clean-ish still had a bit of a funky odor to it. I don't care about decorations so long as the place is clean and well taken care. This doesn't appear to be either. My feeling is that if they don't take care of the front of the restaurant good lord knows what is going on in the kitchen. Good surprise indeed. Who would have thought of finding a decent Chinese restaurant in such a small town?! We were traveling along I-5 and my folks were sick of fast food and they needed some Chinese food since they are Chinese. We enjoyed the food. We ordered a seafood soup, Walnut Shrimp, 2 sizzling plates and they were all very good. My folks are from Hong Kong, so they have pretty high standard in terms of rating Chinese food. They were surprised to find this restaurant to serve decent Chinese food. The waiters were very friendly and chatty. I have been going to this restaurant for years and I have to say it's the best chinese food in Colusa County! The service is great and the food is beyond excellent. All other chinese food I eat and new restaurants I try are judged in comparison to this restaurant and none have prevailed. I personally recommend the general chicken, almond chicken, chicken chow mein (the best I've ever had), and the potsickers (again, the best I've ever had. And the sauce that comes with them is phenomenal!).
