We were visiting my sister in Boston and stumbled upon Wilson's while looking for breakfast on our first morning there. Boy did we hit the jackpot. We were greeted by the AMAZING staff as though we were family that had been coming there for 20 years. I could go on forever about the waitresses. You rarely get that personal connection that I feel is so important when eating out and here they had it in spades. I always ask the wait staff what they like as of course they know the menu best and I was recommended the hash Benedict. It was absolutely spectacular. My son had the pancakes which were also wonderfully fluffy and delicious. By the 2nd morning we went to eat there we were already being greeted by name and they were bringing my dog water. We had a wonderful conversation with several of the wait staff (which again, I cannot say enough good things about) who were truly engaged with every single customer while we enjoyed our delicious omelettes. Not much to say that hasn't been said 100 times already. As far a diners go, Wilson's is exactly what you would hope/expect. The food comes out quickly, is prepared precisely as you ordered it, and usually delivered with a joke from the guy who I assume is the owner. The food is consistent in terms of quality and speed. We've been several times, but only for a quick breakfast on our way to or from something else. You don't really linger here because there is such a high turnover and frankly its not that comfortable. At least during the weekend. But who cares, you didn't come here for the comfort. You came for the eggs and watered-down diner coffee! Never did lunch but am interested in some of the meals they advertise on the wall. Make sure you bring cash as credit cards are not accepted. We'll be back, but it we want to linger and do anything more than eat and run, we'll go back to Josephs 2, down the street. Would have been 4 stars but a leak in the roof dripped down my back! I'm drawn to "real" diners (Worcester cars) having grown up with faux diners on the West Coast. I was headed down Main Street and Wilsons's came into view; had to stop! Continued down Main Street and came back later that day after I fulfilled my original purpose for coming to Waltham. It is basically a breakfast joint; make that a Greek breakfast joint. I was there towards the end of their Saturday service. The diner is well preserved and dripping with local color. I ordered something off of their daily special board and was promptly informed that the list was from the previous day. Ordered something else; not available. The owner finally chimed in "you want a gyro? How about some nice slouvaki with potatoes?" I ordered the slouvaki. Sipping on some of their mediocre coffee, listened in on a family argument (all in Greek) and was handed the plate of food by the owner: "I cook for you and I serve for you. What do think of that?" The food was decent, not bad but nothing out of the ordinary. The meal ended when the owner asked my opinion on the state of the economy. All in all, a quintessential New England Greek diner experience. Loved the local family ambiance. Note to self: learn some Greek. read more

I moved out of Waltham about 3 years ago, but I still frequently make the drive past five other diners to get here. It's not that its the best diner food, or the most comfortable seating, or the nicest smelling. It just has that, how you say, je ne sais quoi factor. Maybe its the fact that your food will always be cooked by the same guy who works 7 days a week and still can manage to say "hi buddy!" (He takes the month of August off, and the place shuts down.) Maybe its the fact that you can walk in with your friend Abraham Lincoln and walk out full of eggs and coffee and still have managed to leave a reasonable tip. Or maybe its just that there are so few opportunities to eat my breakfast in a train car that my five-year old mind jumps at the chance as much as possible. Just driving by and saw this place. So happy I went in. The atmosphere is t typical of a diner which I love. The owners were the cooks and servers, very friendly. Very nice yet traditional diner car option. The food and service are pretty good. They had an interesting mix of omelets available, but I went for the pancake breakfast with all the sides. The pancakes were extremely fluffy and much better than average. The only downside was the toast which was literally wonder bread and pretty gross. Small train trailer diner with a very limited menu which is very good. Mostly breakfast items and club sandwiches. Coffee was nice and hot without the bitter burnt taste. Food was excellent, hot, and flavorful. I got a scrambled egg special with tomatoes and feta cheese. Amazing! The homefries were my favorite part of the meal though. Seasoned to perfection without having to douse out the bland potato taste with ketchup and hot sauce which they have. Did I mention the food was served very quickly?! Wow, the food here really sucks! Unless you like... food that tastes like nothing, coffee that is so burnt it's undrinkable, having your order screwed up, leaving angry and still hungry because you couldn't eat that garbage. The atmosphere is like that of most diners and was the only thing that I actually liked about the place. Started with a cup of coffee which tasted awful, almost like they watered it down and left it in the pot overnight. The food came out lukewarm and the sausages were undercooked. I ordered scrambled eggs and they came out a little runny. The home fries didn't taste cooked at all and the toast pieces were tiny. The pancakes tasted fine but it's pretty hard to mess those up. The cook seemed to be rushing through every order like it was a race, not sure why though as it wasn't that busy. The first time we drove into the parking lot at Wilson's, the place was unfortunately closed. I mean, why wouldn't a breakfast place be open at 2:00 on a Sunday? OK, maybe we should wake up earlier. Anyway, the owner saw us checking out the hours on the sign and he stuck his head out the door, apologized for being closed, and urged us to come back again. So we did, the next Sunday, and we weren't disappointed. It was packed so we sat up at the bar, and I'm glad we did. The owner does the cooking and he's a one-man show, running 100 mph the whole time, flipping pancakes onto plates and then spinning the plates behind his back onto the counter. We both pigged out -- coffee, burgers for the hubby, steak & eggs for me -- less than $15 not including the tip. The steak & eggs came with a pile of home fries which I'm not into (did I mention I'm from the south? Home fries at breakfast are ... confusing). I loved Wilson's!! I don't really like pancakes but I felt for something sweet and these were the best blueberry pancakes I've ever had. They were so fluffy and had enough blueberries inside. Is always there and always in a great mood, usually only one or two other servers so the service can be a bit slow, my recommendation is to sit at the bar if you can and have (Wilson?) serve you directly. Best diner in Waltham, all thanks to Wilson himself! This guy gives Greek God a whole new meaning. The guy who does all the cooking is HILARIOUS and hits on nearly every woman that walks in the door, all while flipping pancakes, cooking hash browns, buttering toast, and taking orders. He has some help, but mostly does all the work himself. He's the definition of the American Dream, working from the crack of dawn till about noon most days, and he always has the funniest sayings and stories! The food is exactly what you should expect from a diner. This is not In A Pickle and in no way should be compared to it! This place is a whole different ball game. This little blue train car-looking diner is staffed by 3 people at most every day and can offer a group of 4 people a filling breakfast for under $30. Good luck with that anywhere else. The menu is traditional diner style with pancakes (chocolate chips, fruit, and other add ons are always an option), Texas french toast, sausages, eggs, bacon, and the like. This place is great for an inexpensive breakfast for blue collar folks or college kids with a hole burning in their pockets from a pricey night out. If you're not into the whole "traditional diner" appearance, don't come here. This place has likely not been renovated since the 80s and still has those old school diner stools and cushioned booths. Went this morning based on previous reviews. Was not disappointed. It wasn't even full, which seemed strange for a Saturday morning, but after seeing how quickly we got served it made sense. Corned beef hash omelette was delicious and the home fries were good too. We didn't know it was cash only, so we had to go next door, but that's really our fault for not checking ahead of time. The only bad part was the coffee. It tasted REALLY burnt and just generally low quality. As we were leaving the cook called me and my friends pretty and gave us lollipops, which was a nice gesture. Went there for first time hoping to like. Sat at counter and started lookin at menu stacked by register that said take out menu or menu. Waitress comes by and takes menu and says do you want regular menu? I look at that menu and same as other but all prices higher on all items by 2.00??? Ordered ice coffee, hash and 2 eggs, 1 slice crunchy French toast to try. Service was quick. Ice coffee in small 10!oz glass with half ice was 2.00 French toast came out and no crunch at all and nothing to write home to Mom in Greece about for 3.00 for 1 piece. 2 eggs and hash was good hash with ok home fries Nothing to write home about either for 9.50. Total was 14.50 for breakfast with h 2.50 tip was 17.00. I don't reason to stop in again unless in area and starving at this price . I am excited that Wilson's is back open, nothing could compete with the combination of service, quality of food and value for the money. Expect good food cooked the way you want for the best prices in the area. There are fewer lunch specials now, but breakfast is served open to close. While the corned beef hash isn't made from scratch is not just plopped out of a can onto the grill. Try the hash omelet if you want something special. {Original Review} This is a classic greasy spoon diner. The service is fast but it gets very busy at peak times. Breakfast is exactly what you should expect from a small diner - eggs cooked exactly the way you ask (one way to test a short order cook is to see if they know the difference between over-easy and over-medium eggs), a nice variety of meats (from standard bacon and sausage to hash to loconico and kielbasa), homefries that actually taste like potatoes - all without a lot of frills but a good amount of food, cooked the way you ask and at a price that can't be beat. If you want something done a certain way just ask and the owner, who is always on the grill, will be happy to accommodate. The daily lunch specials change but everything I have ever had has been good, the meatloaf, pot roast and short ribs are all good. The place is fairly small - about 15 stools at the counter and 10 booths. It would be tough for groups of more than 4 unless you go off peak.
