Chocolate Chip Cookie, Millet Mochi Donut, Pork Fan Tuan
    Joy C.

Was super excited to try Win Son Bakery after looking at the menu and how they seemed to transform Taiwanese cuisine. The fan tuan was surprisingly good! The egg was jammy and they had you tiao in it that was perfectly crunchy. It was wrapped well and nothing fell apart. It is smaller than you would think, but understandable for the price ($7). We also tried the millet mochi donut since I saw it was popular online. The texture is perfect! The only con or thing to note is that there is a lot of ginger in the powder. It felt a little overpowering, so would only order if you enjoy the taste of ginger. The cookie was yummy and huge! I got the seasonal milk tea which was Jasmine and mango this month (June). It was good, didn't have a particular strong taste. The service is nice but a little disorganized. Our food came out in two rounds, where we had to chase them to get the rest of our food. It kinda felt like they forgot about it! The interior is nice and seems very urban. There's seating inside and outside.

Went for the first time on Sunday morning with an East Villager. Ordered the Shrimp Scallion Pancake, it was really really good. And the dipping sauce was also a very good combo, I ran out by the time I finished. The service was solid for the amount of foot traffic coming through on a busy Sunday, and the restaurant itself was very clean and provided water cups on both sides of the building. Very unique and delicious, worth trying out if you haven't before!

No wait on a Sunday morning. The original Win Son on the other side of the river is always jam packed on weekends. So much so that I don't go as often and when I do it's always takeout since I don't have as much patience as I grow older(who does?), to sit and wait on a line. These scallion pancakes are definitely better when eaten right away, not layered into a box to steam and get soggy. LOL. They are also definitely a little more greasy than you normally breakfast sammie but as a treat, it was delicious. The crisp oniony pancake adds a layer of flavor. The shrimp may not have added as much to the bite, I think next time I'd try something different. As I said up top, no wait did add to the experience. Once you order you are on your own to find seating inside or out. You take the table number to your table and your breakfast will magically appear in 15 mins. Definitely a more comforting experience.

Ordered quite a feast for brunch delivery. FAVs- Mortadella Scallion Pancake - we ordered 4 different scallion pancake and this one stand out the most, tasty and balanced. San Bei Ji Chop'd Cheese Scallion Pancake - the only different approach one that's kinda interesting. Fries was meh. Savoy Soy Milk - love! SORTA LIKE- Fan Tuan - pretty good but Ho Foods' flavor is more on point. Xia (Shrimp) Bun - pretty good. Jiucai Scallion Pancake - indifferent. Pinut Cookie - YUM DISLIKE - Pastrami Beef Tongue Scallion Pancake - This was the worst dish, the pastrami beef tongue was dry and just not good.

Came on a weekday and there was no line. I tried: + Egg and cheese scallion pancake + Fan Tuan with tofu + Pine nut sun cookie + b&w nian gao Egg and cheese scallion pancake was my favorite, along with the pine nut cookie. Nian gao was also a standout. I'll be back to try the ice cream and more treats - looks like they're open in the evenings so would make a good after-dinner stop.

The food actually tasted great! The Bacon Egg and Cheese Scallion Pancake was seared on the outside to have the perfect, satisfying crunch while the cheese on the inside was super gooey and creamy to make the quintessential breakfast "sandwich" bite as good as it gets. But its not a scallion pancake, not even remotely close and I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend who asked me for a scallion pancake place. I also think $16 or $17 for this is quite insane, even for Manhattan. If they charged $8 for this it would be a steal, $13 would be reasonable, but $17 is unreasonably sky-high for what is provided. The price instills the expectation that this is a sort of artisanal fine dining breakfast place that uses ultra high quality ingredients but the product is a very solid breakfast "burrito" in actuality.

Taiwanese fusion bakery/restaurant. Much longer line and more crowded than at the Brooklyn location, although there's lots of outdoor seating. While I won't repeat my review, I'll generally say that the scallion pancakes, mochi donut, and snow peas are the things to get here. Unlike the Brooklyn location, they had all the bakery items available, so we were able to try the red date cake and peanut butter double baked bao this time. Both lived up to the hype and were my favorites, so I'd recommend both (as well as the previous menu selection above). Not really a complaint, but I do find it a little odd that at neither location did I see a single Asian employee either serving or cooking, given they're supposedly Taiwanese.

Tried Win Son Bakery and it didn't quite live up to the hype. The BEC scallion pancake was average and overpriced and the pork fan tuan was just okay (uses pork floss, not real pork). The rou bao felt like a smashed XLB. The millet mochi donut was the highlight -perfectly chewy. Overall, I'd still pick Chinatown or even a deli over this. Not sure I'd go back.

The food is just as good as the original location in Williamsburg. I've been to both locations now many times and I prefer how much more laid back and spacious the East Village spot is. Maybe I've gotten lucky but during mid-morning on most days there's plenty of seating and food comes out super fast. I'm always getting the pork floss fan tuan with egg and cruller. It is the perfect breakfast, so delicious, filling and affordable. The scallion pancake sandwiches are obviously incredible but the fan tuan is the real star imo. I'm always so excited to see the pastry case here, they change things up all the time. It's always worth getting one of the sweets, but I will always recommend the millet mochi donut. When it comes out warm, the texture is addictive and it's a perfect balance of sweet and salty.

Win Son Bakery is such an absolute gem - I already want to go back and try everything else on the menu. I ordered the iced black sesame latte and it was incredible - smooth, perfectly balanced, lightly sweet, and so unique. It's one of those drinks you keep thinking about after you leave. I also got the scallion pancake with egg and cheese and it completely lived up to the hype. Perfect texture - crispy and golden on the outside, soft and slightly chewy inside - and the sauce it comes with is perfect with it. Everything was so thoughtfully made. The space is also beautiful, filled with plants that make it feel warm, cozy, and inviting. I really loved that they have outdoor seating too - it's such a nice option. Service was excellent. The gentleman at the counter was super friendly and gave really great recommendations for both food and drinks, which made the experience even better. No lines on a Friday morning at 10am which was a bonus. Overall, everything from the food to the atmosphere to the service was amazing. Highly recommend!

My friend and I came here during dinner hours to try their BEC Scallian Pancake. Inside was super moody with dim lights and a candle on every table. It is also spacious with free seating and decorative plants. We got in line to order at the front, and got a Jasmine tea and BEC Scallion Pancake. The jasmine tea tasted weird. It did not taste like typically floral tea, but we couldn't drink it after a sip. The BEC Scallion pancake is exactly what you order. It's bacon, egg, and cheese on a scallion pancake. The bacon was a bit too crispy for me, but it was not a bad bite. I am glad I got to try!

Food is delicious . Good mixes of ingredients. Service - ok. Self service cafe-like. Order paid at register and they'll bring to the table. Ambiance - simple modern clean. I love their friend chicken with Cajun fries- delicious Their scoop ice cream is a "packed 10oz cup" size -- good for sharing. I have yet to try the pancakes - Asian twist. Will try next time.

First time here and I absolutely loved it. I got their famous bacon egg and cheese scallion pancake and it was phenomenal. I also order the pork fan tuan which was so unique. Tempted to buy a shirt or bandana next time I'm here...

It featured a crispy, sugar-glazed exterior and a soft, chewy interior, topped with truffle cheese and served with a truffle butter dip; the pairing was superb, and it tasted great both on its own and with the dip. For the main course, I ordered the miso-glazed black cod. The flavor was flawless, and while the portion was small (which was acceptable), the pool of broth accompanying it was completely unnecessary; it was inedibly salty, so what was the point of serving it? After finishing the fish, I was left with a plate full of broth, rendering the plate unusable. Plus, it was overpriced; for this dish, you're better off going to Strip House Strip House remains the undisputed king of this dish in New York. A friend ordered the chicken parmesan. It was just average. Another friend ordered the short rib stroganoff. The flavor was decent, but it was far too rich and heavy. As someone whose palate is split 50/50 between Western and Chinese cuisine, I could manage only five bites at most. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. Aside from that monkey bread, I didn't feel like anything else justified the price or offered something you couldn't find elsewhere. I don't quite get the hype. Perhaps I just didn't order the right dishes; maybe next time I'll try the burger and the steak.

The King Crab Rangoon (8/10) was packed with crab, almost too much for my taste, but the sweet chili and hot mustard sauces balanced it out nicely. The Espresso Martini (6/10) was a pretty standard espresso martini. The Long Island Cold Brew (3/10) tasted like cold brew mixed with vodka, which just wasn't for me. Service was fine overall (7/10).
