Visited Papa d'Amour early on Mother's Day and the person at the desk gave me some recommendations of little mochi toasts in various flavors and different pastries to get for my mom. I got myself a scallion pastry and it was so delicious warmed up! It was nice and calm on a Sunday morning with lots of searing, so I enjoyed my coffee and pastry at Papa d'Amour before shopping nearby. They also have the butter dipped Hokkaido milk soft serve here.

Pastry is unique. Ansel tapped into multicultural options and found his own way to integrate the flavors, spices, and seasonings. While my thoughts are my own, you should stop in and try this for yourself. I find it difficult to resonate with this flavor profile of his. We all love the cronut, which was stellar, but each of the selections I sampled was missing a few elements or needed further refinement. I find myself lost halfway through the experience. Nonetheless, it was a fun experience with the family. Scallions are known to hold moisture. Requires delicate balance to infuse them inside a warm roll. Kurobata Hot Dog was probably the best one out of the 5 we sampled. One of the best highlights of our visit was the staff exercising patience with our curiosity. Thank you for being accommodating and helpful with our selection. If you are looking for a unique and fun experience with pastry goods, this is your jam. Come and try it for yourself. It may come with a heavier price tag, but it's curated goods.

Went early during the week and there was no wait. I got the hot chocolate, the curry bread and ube jar. The curry bread was hefty and really delicious it was packed full of meat and vegetables. The hot chocolate was really good and loved the mochi. The ube jar broke before I could get a picture but it had a nice filling.

I love this spot and anything Dominique Ansel touches. Visited to get some treats for a friends birthday and felt obligated to finally try the salt bread bagel. They warmed up it and you could taste how buttery it was. Loved it with the cheese spread.

I heard Dominque Ansel had a new Taiwanese/French bakery so I had to check it out! They have creative pastries with a Taiwanese twist. It was fun to see familiar Asian flavors in a new baked good. I ordered the scallion basil blossom and the curry pan. They warm it up for you which makes the pastries so much better. The scallion basil blossom was flakey and filled with a delicious pesto. The curry was savory and filled with chicken, potatoes, and carrots! Definitely a full meal. Next time I want to try their jam jars! They looked cute and had good flavors.

Food is excellent as expected, service is quick, quality is top notch and the place is clean and modern with a large bathroom. My favorite is the Matcha soufflé drink. They bring the matcha drink and pour thick matcha into the hole on top and watch the contents go up high. Every bite of things I have ordered have been excellent. The grilled double cheese is one of my favorites. Today I had the crispy donut with mochi inside and strawberry stuffing. I am not particularly a fan though of the white croissant they call white bun Croissant. They also carry milk bread. There are several pastries you can choose from. Another day, I have tried their super thick melted grilled cheese sandwich. Love it! And mother time I had their hot chocolate with a mochi on a stick. It is an excellent place for lunch or brunch. And snacks! Anytime you have time, like me, I pay a visit to have my favorite food.

Stopped in on a weekday and it was busy but my friend and I were able to grab seats. Taro mochi donut was excellent, but my favorite was actually the scallion basil blossom. Also tried the banana bread Malay cake which looked amazing but was meh, kind of dry.

Papa d'Amour 64 University Pl. New York, NY 10003 Butter Vanilla Soft Serve When I passed by this bakery I couldn't help but notice a large crowd dining inside and outside. The butter ice cream soft serve sidewalk billboard sign especially caught my eye, so I decided to give it a try. The overall appearance of the cone looked fantastic. It was definitely beautifully handcrafted and looks really appealing. Unfortunately, the taste was average. The top of the cone was completely covered in a butter shell. It was slightly chewy, but was on the bland side. The organic soft serve ice cream does not taste as well as original soft serve. It lacked flavor and something was definitely missing. The bakers were on the right track by placing a "surprise" mochi gummy on the bottom of the cone, but it didn't fit with the dessert. A hard piece of chocolate or white chocolate would have been a much better alternative. I am confident this bakery has other dessert choices that are definitely on the money, which accounts for the large crowd. In my honest critique, I truly do not feel the soft serve is their strong suit especially since I noticed I was the only customer in the shop who chose this particular dessert. #softservebuttercone #papadamour #papadamournyc #westvillage #organicsoftserve #mochi #buttervanillasoftserve

I've been to Papa d'Amour a few times and am always intrigued by their creative asian-inspired pastries. Tldr, I love their salt bread bagels, taro mochi donut, and shokupan the most! *Salt Bread Bagel $8.5 *** Highly recommend coming at 8 for a fresh batch! I grabbed this when it was fresh out of the oven. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, with a golden, buttery crust. It also has a butter hole inside that salt bread is known for. The salt flecks get a little charred and add crunch. It comes together as a set with a french cheese spread, though the bagel is already amazing on its own when warm. *Taro and Mochi Lace Batter Donut $7.5 ** A reimagined taro puff pastry (芋角) dim sum filled with mochi and guava jam . Crispy, flaky honeycomb crust on the outside, stretchy on the inside with a pop of guava tartness. Totally blown away by how good this is. *Pretzel Salted Egg Tart $4.5 The egg custard is brushed with brown butter, and the pretzel shell is studded with salt. I loved that it's made with a pretzel base.

Love exploring the bakery scene in NYC, and my friend and I just knew we had to come to Papa d'Amour! I'd actually discovered it watching an episode of Korean Englishmen on YouTube, so shoutout to them. When we got there, the workers were all very sweet and helpful, and luckily we found seating inside because they were very packed (typical for a Sunday morning, I assume) Spent a minute just admiring all the pastries on display - I just adore how their recipes marry the classic French pastries with East Asian flavors in such a creative and delectable way. Anyways, we tried a couple different pastries: Salt bread bagel with cheese spread (4/5): to say I love salt bread is lowkey an understatement, but regardless, this bagel was essentially just a very classic salt bread, very soft and like that of a cloud, airy and clean-tasting. Worked well with the cheese but it's just so good on its own as well. Apple, asian pear & red bean chausson (4.5/5): I was on a rollercoaster with this one. First off, the name instantly piqued my interest because the flavor profile seemed so versatile and harmonious, and then when I tried it, all three (apple, asian pear, red bean) were very much present but also with this almost Asian herbal aftertaste? But, it kinda grew on me and the apple/pear compote especially was just so addicting (I paired it with the cream cheese from the salt bread bagel, which actually worked so well together). This pastry very much gives a sense of autumn with its flavors, and omg the flakiness of the brioche was flawless. Most importantly, it was not TOO sweet, genuinely the perfect amount of sweet for me. Like, this is my new standard of sweetness for pastries. Banana bread malay cake (4.5/5): personally I found the banana to taste and feel more like a plantain, but the sponge was delightful, and I love all things banana bread, so you can't go wrong with this one. There's still so much I want to try, especially the scallion basil blossom (and the name itself is so beautiful), so maybe for next time...

Came here on a snowy weekend, and was really impressed with the service here. They handed out hand warmers given the cold weather. I tried the curry pan warmed up, and it was delicious! My friends got the egg sandwich, which was great as well. Wish I could have tried some of their other baked items as well, but the seating was all full. There's a moderate amount of seating, but it's usually always busy!

After seeing the Jolly YouTube episode about bakeries in NYC, I knew I had to go here. I was most looking forward to the egg tart and ended up thinking about the Taro Lace Battered Mochi donut. It was a little busy but we managed to grab a table. My friend promised to split everything with me and I mayyyy have gone overboard with the amount of items I got for the two of us, but gosh - coming from Indiana and having all of these incredible pastries/tarts & toasts/sandos/ and jam jars in front of me - I just couldn't stop ordering things! What a delight! - The pretzel egg tart was perfectly salted which balanced out the sweetness (it wasn't too sweet which was perfect!) - The Taro and Mochi Lace Battered Donut just hit the spot for me. I am a texture eater and loved the crunch on the outside, the softness on the inside from the mochi, and the mixture of tart and sweet tasting jam in the center. So good! - The Ube Coconut Jam Jar was delightful. It was so fun to cut into and if you love coconut you'd love this! The outside is thicker and light in flavoring. I was glad it was super sweet! The inside was creamy and delicious and it all went so well together! -The croissant bao wasn't my favorite but I can understand the appeal This place was awesome! I wish I lived in NY because I'd be here allll the time

The orange has a base made of chocolate Rice Krispies. All of them have more fruity filling than the mousse. They are very fragile. I recommend eating there if you can. There was no place to sit down because of how busy it was but the staff kept the line moving quick enough. The place still seemed reasonably stocked with their desserts and treats, despite the late afternoon time that I arrived. I ordered 4 different treats to go and they're packed in small box individually. Unfortunately, they didn't quite stay intact during my trek back to my hotel and were tumbled around in the boxes. Nonetheless, the taste and flavors held up well and even after a few days in the fridge. The yuzu daisy has this vivid pastel yellow-pink base and adorable gelatinous yellow gem atop a white flower. The yuzu gives a subtle infusion of tart that is balanced out by the light delicate skin texture of the rest. Sitting atop a thin round rice crispy. I loved the red mushroom one which is a creamy pink mousse inside the cap. The stalk is a thin porcelain-white chocolate light base also filled with a rich cream. Adjacent are two cute little tree nuts. The orange and mango have such vivid colors and are aesthetically pleasing too. Just like the previous ones, their delicate chocolate exterior houses a rich tarty mousse-y filling. I think the mushroom has a better balance and variety of flavors. Although I don't eat mousse treats often, I look forward to trying some of the other ones in the future, like the blueberry, banana and cloud.

Today I decided to make a special trip to go here to grab a few goodies. I forgot how small the place was and how low the ceilings were. That wasn't an issue though. The place was nice and cakes were stacked neatly. What was surprising to me is that they don't have any cookies laid in the front display. It's all placed in the back almost hidden. I was deeply disappointed with their cookie selection. It was deeply surprising that they don't sell the butter cookies that had jam in the middle and dipped with chocolate on one side with sprinkles. I did ask the clerk and even showed him a pic of what I was looking for and he said they never sold them. They only had the linzer cookies and they didn't look so good. They also did not have the lobster tail. They did have the sfogliatelle which they also called a lobster tail. I thought they were not the same? Some bakeries sell both and they are definitely not the same. I did end up buying one of their sfogliatelle with cream and some rugelachs. The sfogliatelle was good but the rugelachs tasted slightly underbaked. It did taste fresh though unlike many I've had in other bakeries. However, for $28 per pound, I wouldn't get it again. For those not having lobster tail and not having the Italian cookies, I will have to give Veniero's a low rating. I never thought an Italian bakery would not carry staples. Very disappointed. I need to find another Italian bakery now.
