I always loved Windmill Gardens at their original location. However, part of the land was sold, so they moved most of their plants to this new store. It has vibes of the previous location, with like plants put together. There is an indoor store with gardening tools and decorations (also where the bulbs are located). The plants here are all outdoors - indoor plants are at the original location - but they have a good variety. It's early in the season (April 30th), so they were still putting flowers out and waiting from some orders to arrive. One thing to note: this location will NOT be open all year. The employees said it will be open seasonally, so early spring through part of summer. read more

Nice nursery next to Windmill Bistro. Many decorative plants and succulents. Attractive garden decorations at reasonable prices. The hanging fuchsia they have are incredible and if you're lucky you will see a hummingbird coming to check them out. Nice gift shop inside and they also offer coffee at a little kiosk in the middle of the outdoor section. Although I noticed that the staff were attentive to those with questions I did not find them very smiley. Good spot for gift ideas and definitely worth a browse if you are eating next door. read more

What a neat little nursery! They have a great selection of perennials, grasses, ground covers, shrubs, and evergreens. I think their prices are actually comparable to the home improvement stores but this nursery has better quality and bonus: they're local. I also love the little gift shop type area with home decorations and other cute little items. Plus, they have a couple young kitties to help keep shop that was definitely a plus for me! The only drawback was their selection of pots but I know lots of people are buying stuff for their homes right. We will definitely be back! read more

What an awesome place tucked away in Sumner. I would have never known this place existed if not for Yelp and the need for some flowers. Small place but very.....not sure how to out this. Space is maximized with awesome flowers and designs but it's not too overwhelming. Very thoughtful. Here is what I loved. I walked a bit, staff was super friendly. I walked to the counter and asked if they sold Leis. Nope, but she gave me info on who sells Leis in Tacoma. Even wrote the number down. Clearly was more interested in what my floral needs were. We buy lots of our outdoor plants at Windmill. Actually, we have purchased a number of indoor plants as well. They have some of the most healthy looking plants around. You can also get great deals on their 50% off table for perennials that are past peak. They may not look great when planted, but they come up the next year looking as good as the full price plants. The folks there can answer all your questions too. I'm writing this review because my wife called in an order for 12 poinsettias for her office party this past weekend. When we arrived we could not believe how big and beautiful the 4 inch plants were. It was obvious that they were chosen with care. Her staff loved the flowers. The last two times I've been here the employees trying to help me had never heard of what I was asking for and both times they didn't have it. This time it was nematodes. I'm thinking people who work in nurseries ought to know what nematodes are. I have no faith in this place. Make the drive out to Watson's in Puyallup. They know what things are and they always have them in stock. They haven't failed me yet. It's worth the short 6 mile drive from Sumner. Not going to waste my time on windmill ever again. read more

Easy to find and parking is plentiful. If you're out shopping for indoor plants the selection may be disappointing. The staff around who are knowledgeable about the indoor plants scarce. The pots are labeled with generic "houseplants" stickers so if you're looking for a specific plant and you aren't a plant expert yourself it could be hard. I purchased a Hoya a few weeks back and it's been in isolation as my plant collection grows I don't want new plants too close until I haven't seen bugs for 1-2 months. I'm glad I did that because just last weekend I found mealy bugs as I was cleaning the leaves. Prices are a bit more than other nurseries I've been to with larger selection of indoor houseplants. read more

This is a great nursery but also a beautiful garden in the front. I was really impressed with how beautiful the landscaping is on the grounds. There are a few paths, a waterfall, gazebo and a windmill which add to the beauty. My favorite spot was a stone area to sit on in front of the pond and the waterfall which was a great place to relax and enjoy the great surroundings. The shop itself is nice and has a lot of great stuff if you are into gardening. Take some time and check out all the great plants and supplies. I felt their prices were a bit high but it looked like the quality was pretty good. Another great thing about this place is that there is a restaurant on the property in an old house. There is also a separate shop that sells tea and looks like a cute little cottage. If you are in the area stop by and at least walk the grounds... It's worth it! read more

We have purchased at least 6 large hanging baskets per year from Windmill Gardens over the past 10 years or so. We headed to the new Riverside Farm on Saturday to purchase this year's 6 baskets. When we walked into the entrance, two women workers were conversing with each other, one looked at us for a second, the other did not. Neither greeted us or acknowledged out existence. We saw one other worker out in the greenhouses, she looked at us as if we were aliens and also did not greet us or offer us any assistance. We left and went to Watson's Nursery and gave them our $400. The workers at Watson's were happy to see us and even offered to help if we had any questions. What a concept... read more

Would be higher rating, but they are rather pricey, other then that the other knock, is they need to have more parking, specially when they have a event going on. That being said, the selection here is very good, you'll find stuff you wont find at your Lowes or Home Depote. If your in the Tacoma,WA area, a little trip north to Sumner could be in store to check out this store, I would also suggest those using WAZE app or your GPS to get here, as it will be tricky finding otherwise. The employees here, are very friendly and know what they're doing, and are very prompt at their jobs, so overall, minus the prices they charge I would recommend this place read more

This place is great! Definitely a hidden gem in Sumner. I prefer this place over Watson's because the selection is great and the prices are good. Watson reminds me of a gardeners version of Whole Foods. I guess some people just like to spend more. Perfect for your gardening needs with plenty of hard to find/exotic plants. Looooooooove Windmill Gardens. First off it's local, and I love supporting local businesses. They have such an array of plants both indoor and outdoor. The staff is friendly and helpful. They sell their own liquid fertilizer for around $6 with bottle and they have a refill fee when you bring it back. At least you don't have to keep buying jug after jug and making more waste in our landfills. They also have the windmill bistro in the same parking lot, in which I hope to get my boyfriend and I to try. There is also a tea house called Tea Madame which sells loose leaf tea, love their iced teas they sell at the Puyallup Farmers Market, but that calls for another review on their page. I wish I had a house so I can buy their roses because they are gorgeous. However, since I live in an apartment I like to stick to bulbs and annuals that I can grow in a container. I can't wait to visit Windmill gardens so I can get some tulip and daffodil bulbs for spring! read more

Located in sumner, this place is HUGE and I know I did not see it all.This place had some of the most beautiful azealas in bright pink that I have ever seen! (So, I bought some!!!!). I loved the purples, deep and rich and the selections look so lush! This place has greenhouses, outdoor areas, indoor gift shop and pots, a flower shop for ordering, outdoor chairs and bistro sets and flags and more more more!! Run, do not walk here! Avoid this place at all cost. The fresh floral deliveries are a joke. I ordered flowers to be send to a friend on Wednesday. I called and placed the order Monday afternoon. Wednesday afternoon and the recipient hadn't received anything. On Thursday morning I called to find out what happened and was told that the order was misplaced. My credit card had already been charged, so the order must not have been completely misplaced. They then agreed to delivery the order on Thursday morning, already a day late for my friend's birthday. Thursday at 5pm, I finally get a call from my friend thanking me for the flowers that were just delivered. I visited my friend on Saturday. I was excited to see the flowers she had received. She stated that she threw them away on Friday afternoon as they were already wilted and no longer attractive. So, I spend over $70 for a birthday gift that arrived a day late and didn't even last two days! AVOID THIS FLORIST AT ALL COST. I got married here this summer and it was a beautiful space-- everything went very well. I could go on and on, but rather I will keep it simple. (If you have detailed questions or are thinking of getting married here- feel free to message me). Planning a wedding is not a simple task but my wedding planning was pretty smooth. I have a few complaints and those that I do, have nothing to do with Windmill Gardens people. They have quite a few strict rules per the contract and they have to do with table decorations, you have to use their spendy flower person and you can't just use the nursery flowers...you have to use the Bistro people for the alcohol. I chose ACT 3 from their list of Caterers and it was very very good... I will readily admit that there was some confusion as it is a joint venture between Windmill Gardens & Windmill Bistro (they are separate businesses and it's a bit confusing at first). I can tell that some of the reviews here are for the Bistro and some are for the Nursery. It's that confusing. OMGoodness!! I'm married!! :) read more

Online Ordering of a gift card was a nightmare. Ordered on a Saturday it was understandable that it likely would not be processed till the next business day. Monday following the weekend I ordered I received a confirmation email thanking me for my order. On the following Sunday ( a week and a day from the order) I spoke with the recipients who were to receive the gift card and they had not received it. They live local of Windmill. I contacted Windmill and left a voice message stating recipients had not received the card and it's been 8 days from purchase. Next day I called and spoke to a employee in the nursery. She told me to be patient that the card probably didn't get processed till Thursday or Friday (5-6 days after purchasing). That likely the recipients will get it Monday. The recipients did not receive the gift card Monday. I sent another email to Suzanne Windmills employee asking where the gift card was? I never received a reply to it or any other corespondents I attempted. Today twelve days from the paid order the local recipients finally received their gift card. Maybe Windmill Garden should state on their website how long it takes to process their gift cards. read more

I thought that the prices were actually very reasonable (especially compared to what prices you would see at comparable specialty nurseries up north in Seattle like the West Seattle Nursery! ). Great selection of air plants, which is hard to find. And I have to rave about the Blooms floral shop - great customer service, and gorgeous flowers! My wife loves this place, and I am someone who likes to buy flowers for her, they make it easy. You can easily walk away spending hundred plus dollars, but you will be getting high end quality product. Everything here is well taken care of, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. I do not think anytime we have gone here, we have not been asked no less than three times if we are finding everything okay, and can I help you. The grounds are very well maintained, and there is something for every gardener and landscaper.
