Last night my family and I encountered an extremely rude "hostess" at the Windward. I was told to call ahead to put my name on some wait list. When I arrived with my family of 6, the young hostess said there would be a 15 minute wait for our table. Then the rude hostess appeared telling us to move because they were very crowded. I told her my name and that we were told we were next for a table. She said , "No you're not!" Then 5 people walked in and she took them to be seated. They were not on, " the list!" Then she seated another 5 people who also were not on, "the list." The young hostess was arguing with " Miss Bossy" telling her we were before all those people and she replied, " No they weren't!" Meanwhile, we had 2 young children with us and 45 minutes later, Miss Rude says, " I just can't get you a table, no one is leaving!!" So you lost 6 customers Windward owner and we are never returning to your restaurant!! I noticed another one of your customers was treated the same way as described in his review. You need to fire this person or give her a sensitivity training course on how to treat customers before you have none. read more

I tried Windward Tavern again after giving it time since they have opened to get the "kinks" out of the place. So the second time was just like the first maybe a few shades below the first. The food quality was some of the worst i could think of. Salad with brown lettuce to start. The fact that the chef in the kitchen can't tell what color the lettuce is means lets start looking for better kitchen staff. The second part of the salad was partially frozen glazed over cucumbers. After seeing both in my salad that was about all I could handle for the night. It's been over 4 months since i have last step foot in Windward giving them ample time to become an idenity other then Frankie's of Brick, but 4 months was just to short. I do hope things do a complete 180 for both entity and food. As of now maybe another 4 months is what we need until then I could never go back. read more

What used to be Craig's. While not a fancy, exclusive, upscale menu, the Windward Tavern will not fail to please. I recommend trying the Windward Club); I've never had a bigger and better tasting Turkey Club. Tap and drink list is extensive, even reaching out to the local brewery, where most bars do not stock this delicious fare. While the menu is pretty stock, everything tastes much better than stock. Everything reasonably priced as well. Don't hesitate to eat/drink here, well worth your buck. read more

This place used to be Craig's but now it has been redone and is nicer inside now. The place has typical jersey shore local bar/restaurant ambience so you know exactly what you're getting. I found the bar area to be a little cramped on weekend nights but that's a minor criticism. The food was really quite good. The burgers especially were excellent, some of the best burgers in the area in my opinion. Overall a good place to watch a game or hang out and grab some better than average bar food. read more

5/13/2018. Arrived on mother's day with party of 13 for dinner after seating we had to flag down waitress for drinks and ordering as she would not return to our table for approximately 20 minutes at a time. We waited almost 2 hours to be served dinner. A party of eight arrived a hour after we sat ,were served and had their table cleared before our food arrived Our dinner service took approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes I had order a windward classic burger medium which was well done dry and cold. My grandson had the child's new your strip meduim which was medium well dry and cold and tough. Obviously our food had sat for a while before being served. Found a male who stated he was manager setting a table . This was first time observing him as we did not observe him checking with patrons or his staff before this in several hours we were there. He seemed less than impressed about my complaint. The restaurant was busy but no full. Hopefully owners will watch their cameras to see this read more

Went for dinner 2/20/17. There was a Happy Hour sign by front door and in menu. I asked our waitress what beers where included during Happy Hour. She replied we don't have a Happy Hour. I showed her the drink menu that states Happy Hour. She asked the bartender and advised that there where 3 draft beers. I ordered one of the choices, she advised that you have to be sitting at the bar literally. We were sitting at a High Top in the bar area. Salad and soup came out together. This is THE best tavern in Ocean County. The reasons keep piling up. Food: Outstanding. The calamari is fresh and excellent. The turkey club? There is none better. You can't put it in your mouth, you have to bite the bottom, then the top! No one puts that much turkey on their club or bacon! Great, crispy fries, and every dish you watch come out of the kitchen makes you hungry again. Everyone has a dish their are adamant about, and the menu is full of gems. Drinks: The best selection around. Good prices, too. Microbrews, seasonals, top quality favorites, and the usual staples. Homemade sangria, good wines, and a very respectable take out selection. Atmosphere: Very friendly bartenders. Good service, quick response. No problem people or Jersey Shore Show rejects. Some people in suits, some in jeans, but all a good crowd. THE place to go for football. Free hot and cold buffet on Monday AND Thursday nights? Unheard of. Wings, sausage and peppers (mostly sausage, unlike every other places buffet) pene vodka, and a sandwich platter, for FREE! Overall: This is a great place for family, friends, dates, you name it. Good for weekday unwinding or weekend partying. You will definitely see me there. The owner is a great guy, and runs his tavern hands on. Very approachable and skilled. He used to run Frankie's in Point Pleasant, and has used that experience to kick it up a notch, in a better location. The first yelpper sounds like a disgruntled ex-girlfriend rather than an actual customer. Nothing she reported has been anywhere close to actuality. Some people abuse this great service, though, and that's why it's important to read all the reviews. If you live in the area, this is a must, especially on football nights. My wife and I used to like Craigs, but definitely wont be going back to this hole. We stopped in on Sat about 5:15, it looked a little busy, but not too outrageous, as the parking lot was half empty. We walked in and stood at the hostess station for 5 minutes without anyone coming over at all. The bartender looked over a few times, but didn't acknowledge that we were even there. As we were standing there, more people were coming in, and yet no one even bothered to at least say "someone will be right with you". Needless to say, we walked out and wont be returning. I liked the idea of the late serving kitchen. Sat in the bar area and it was very comfortable. Friendly locals hanging out and baseball, hockey and basketball on many televisions. My husband and I ordered the scallops, which were filled with sand, undercooked, and actually I bit into one and had to spit it out, it was rotten! The owner is always there but he has no interest in the diners. The waitress was awful, she was unprofessional and actually told us a very inappropriate story about a bachelor party that was in the night before. She never came over to ask how the food was, and when she finally came with the bill, she looked at my plate and saw that it was un-eaten and said "I'll wrap that for you." I said, no thank you, and she said "OK great, do you need change?" And the food is not cheap! This place is the worst! have been there 3 times. definite improvement with the bar tenders being attentive and service compared to the old Craigs. although the two inch head on the draft is a bummer especially when its the widest part of the pint. better ordering a bottle, at least your getting 12 oz. just don't think they taste their own food. first time there i got the ruben sandwich. came out cold and had no taste. second time had wings and a house salad. wings were rubbery even when i asked for them to be well done and salad was watery. third time had nachos and gave the wings another try. nachos were chips with cheese and chili thrown on top. no salsa, sour cream or guacamole with it. not really Nachos. Wings were rubbery again, no texture like they were pre cooked and sat around to be revived. guy next to me ordered a cheeseburger medium rare and fries. he got chips and a well done burger. big shame. the locals are looking for a revival of great local place to eat and drink that has consistently good food like the old craigs of years ago. read more

They serve it with chips and we asked if we could substitute mashed potatoes. The waiter said sure no problem. He didnt mention that there is a $2 upcharge which showed on the bill. We were their last night. The food get worse every time we go . I ordered a California BLT .LIGHTLY TOASTED . They did not toast at all sent it back ,came back the same way . Great menu with a large selection of food items to choose from and friendly service. Our waitress was super accommodating and fun. Our food took a long time to prepare for a not-so-crowded Wednesday night. However, the food was delicious and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I go to the tavern often and here is an honest review. One thing to remember is that you should probably keep it simple when ordering food. Burgers, wraps and apps are always consistent and good. The main entrees are always a crap shoot, and sometimes terrible. So I just stick with the simple bar foods at the tavern and I'm never disappointed. Tuesday is a good day to go, half off domestic pints. 430-630 Monday thru Friday happy hour, free Buffett is always pretty solid. I'm a craft beer drinker and they do have some nice beers on tap so that's always a plus. Love the Kane IPA. Go here if you're looking for a nice burger with a beer. Have been going to this place since before they bought the place and never had a bad review of food, service or bar. Until tonight! While speaking with the waitress, I took a sip of beer and thought I had taken in a piece of glass but it was only a piece of plastic thank goodness. The waitress was horrified and she took the piece to the manager Evan. He never came over, never asked if I was ok and I had to ask the waitress to get him. He came over and never offered to take the beer off of the bill or even apologize. Seriously thinking about not going back because of him. We read in NJ Monthly magazines annual Food issue that this was a place to try...We had the ground steak that came with a mushroom and gravy topping and steamed veggies...It also came with a good side salad...Every part of that dish was very well done..A chef salad for the wife was good with plenty of meats and cheese and fresh ingredients...The place has a bunch of tv's and nice soft rock being piped into the bar area...One other thing...When I go to a place I can always judge how it's run by the bathroom...The men's room looked like it was hospital clean...no paper towels strewn on he floor or stinky plunger in sight....it was a clue that the place was well run...We appreciated the night out and will be back... read more

I went to Winward Tavern for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Salmon Ceaser Salad and it was one of the best that I ever had. The salmon was a large very well cooked piece of salmon filet and the ceasar salad had such a flavorful dressing that it made the entire dish very tasty. The price was $12.95 and I thought it was a very good value. My friend had an openface roast beef sandwich and the bread appeared to be stale and then when toasted a bit burnt. He pointed it out to the bartenders and they offered to get more toast but he settled for more gravy to try to saturate the bread. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were very friendly although when it came time for them to bring us the check they took their sweet time. We actually had to ask twice for the check and they were not busy. I would go back again and order the salmon ceasar salad, it was that good. read more
