Last month I made an appointment for my sister to look at wedding dresses. She had a somewhat negative experience with snotty bridal consultants at a place up in Austin and I wanted her to have a meaningful and pleasant experience shopping for her dress. I looked for a place in the Houston area and I must say, my fellow Yelpers did not steer us wrong! Prices were reasonable, our consultant was as sweet as she could be (Laura I believe was her name?), she was incredibly helpful but never put any ounce of pressure on us to make a decision. Of course, their Check-In Offer (15% off purchase IF bought during 1st appointment only) made a big difference in buying the dress and vail that same day! My sister, Mom, and I were all confident that she had chosen *the* dress and felt really good leaving the store that evening. We canceled all of our other appointments-- no need to look further! I am surprised to see any negative reviews about Winnie Couture as it was the best experience by far! My daughter is a student and had her future mother in law fly in so myself and my mother could find and purchase her wedding dress within two days. As the mother of the bride who lives in Austin, I had to do my homework! After a fairly extensive search of the bridal salons in the Houston area comparing internet reviews, personally calling various shops, charting inventory size and price range as well as attending several bridal shows I had our game plan figured out. I made an appt at every shop that made the cut and set out for the day with the appt times, locations and phone numbers in hand. Every shop I contacted offered a 10% discount if you buy the dress at the first appt ONLY, so I tried to make the last shop THE shop where she found the dress. What I learned was the first shops you should visit are the ones with the greatest selection such as Weddings by Debbie or Brickhouse. Each of these shops will try and sell you the dress that you love THAT day, that's their job! But wait until you have a good idea of what you're looking for before you buy. Make your last appt at Winnie Couture. At Winnie you can take the top of one dress, the bottom of another and make your VERY own dress. Don't worry if something is a "best seller", everything is customizable to create your very own dress, no one else will ever have yours!. My daughter's budget was @ $3.500 and with the discount we were able to buy the custom dress of her dreams. We were fortunate to have Danielle as our Sales Associate who made us feel at home and welcomed. That said, I feel that any of the attendants are also very professional. Let me start by saying this; As a plus size bride I did not think I was going to have the "bridal experience" that I have seen on TV. I was so wrong!! From the moment I walked into Winnie Couture I felt special! I felt like like the world stopped for my 90 minute appointment and all the focus was on me for once in my life. This review is to not only promote Winnie Couture Bridal in Houston, but it is to illustrate the experience that I had. I had an appointment with Conny Suk on Sunday May 10, 2015. It was on Mothers Day!! My appointment was on the last day of their 20% off sale. From the moment I walked in the receptionist greeted me so genuinely. The frgrance in the air was so feminine and luxurious. It really set the tone and atmosphere for my appointment. I had the ENTIRE salon to myself and my party. Conny and her assistants were more than helpful. They even referred to the gowns as "she" and "her!" It just made it so real and fun. The quality of the couture gowns were exactly that; Couture!! When I think of couture I think of luxurious fabric and High quality and that expectation was met! Most importantly they never referred to me as a plus size bride. They referred to everything as "custom." And that small detail went a long way. I will never forget this special moment in my life and they made sure of it! After saying yes to the dress they brought out champagne and politely stepped away allowing me to have that moment with my party. My party had just as much fun as I did. I urge you to make this your first and only stop for more than the most important article of clothing you will ever wear, but mainly for the memory of being a Winnie Bride. For a store that is "Couture" and supposed to be high end, their customer service is DEFINITELY not up to par. I went in there and the front desk girl gave me a form to fill out and walked away. I filled out my form and waited a few minutes. I had to walk to the back to find someone to help me out (where I saw the girls just snacking). Who knows how long we would've waited for if I had not gone back to grab someone. My stylist was sweet. But didn't try and get to know me at all. Didn't introduce herself so I don't even know who I was working with, nor did she ask me for my name. She did help me get in and out of my dresses, which was sweet. When my friend asked her if she had any other recommendations for me based on the dress that I did like. She had no clue and just pointed to the dress that I already picked and said "I really think this is the best one." Like didn't even try and pull other styles for me to try on. The other girls in the store would just walk by and look at me without saying anything which I thought was just a bit awkward. I felt like all the girls were inexperienced and if they were, could've fooled me. I was in and out of the store in 30 minutes or so. I tried 3-4 stores to try on dresses before I walked into Winnie Couture. This store is truly incredible and the staff is excellent. I went in the first time and Lesley was very attentive, sweet but above all patient. I was very hesitant about all of the swarovski crystals until Lesley let me know I could alter and change any part of any dress that I wanted to. We picked multiple gowns and took our time and she never made us feel rushed. The store is very well laid out which made choosing the dresses to try on very easy. After trying on multiple gowns, I found a gown that truly tugged at my heart strings. My mom and mother-in-law both teared up and I knew it was the dress for me. As a super family oriented person I told Lesley that my the rest of my family was coming in town next month and I really needed my Dad, brother and sister there as well before I made a final decision on a gown. At every other Bridal Salon the sales person pressed me to purchase it that day because of discounts even though I had shared that information with them about my family. Lesley was a breath of fresh air and incredibly sweet about it. She was completely understanding and sent me on my way with a $300 gift card for when I came in with the rest of my family. We booked my next appointment and I was sad to leave without purchasing the dress but excited to come back. Fast forward a month later my family had all traveled to see me try on bridal gowns. The morning of we found a gown that was a very close contender. When we walked into Winnie for a second time, I was so relieved to see Lesley. She put me in my gown and I came out and I just knew. The rest of my family fell in love with it as well and we found the most beautiful veil to match. We customized almost everything on the gown and she was very accommodating throughout the whole process. I could not be more pleased with my experience with Winnie Couture on their staff. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I was shopping for my wedding dress and found one I really liked here. It was $2,500.00 so I said "let me think about it for a bit" and was going to go to lunch with my Mom and soon to be mother in law and just relax and discuss the dresses. I was told "If you leave without purchasing it, I will have to add 20% to the price when you come back". I was shocked! When I contacted the store Mgr she replied "I am not going to explain nor defend my pricing policy. Enjoy your wedding" and dismissed me. I've been meaning to review Winnie Couture and am just now getting around to it. I got married in May, 2014. First, an appointment is required, which is understandable since it's a small salon with a unique selection of dresses. The reception was fine and friendly enough and the experience of trying on the dresses was comfortable up until the point when I told the Sales Associate that it was my very first shop to look at dresses and I really wanted to shop around as I had a great group of girls that I wanted to spend the day with trying on dresses to select the perfect one. She (I really wish I could remember her name) stated that if I didn't buy during that initial visit, I would not be able to come back, NOT EVEN LATER THAT DAY! In my disbelief I asked her to clarify, which she did and the response wasn't any different than what I've stated above. I immediately left and completely detached myself emotionally and mentally from a gorgeous gown I had found. It was a nice experience up until I felt cornered to get the dress or get out! read more

So, I really liked this salon - it's cute, has a decent selection and didn't have that huge warehouse feel where it seems like everyone else is shopping with you that day. Two of my bridesmaids and my mom were offered champagne and my appointment started on time - no complaints there. We walked the floor, pointed out dresses we wanted to try and our consultant was quick to get them off the rack and into my dressing room. I was looking specifically for lace, and something more fitted because I am petite, and Winnie had a good handful that fit the description. I ended up trying on a dress that everyone really liked. It was lace but also had beading around the waist and at the neckline (this is an important detail, read on). This was only the 2nd store I had been to for dress shopping, so I was somewhat apprehensive about buying so soon. My first complaint with Winnie was that my particular consultant was too overbearing/pushy with her opinion. I know all the salons want to sell, but in this case it seemed very obvious. I had a freakout moment after I purchased it and left the store because I wasn't sure if I had REALLY liked it, or if I was persuaded into it. Luckily, I do really like it, but still. My second complaint is that when the consultant measured me, she mentioned I fit exactly to a particular size. That seemed cool, because I figured it would mean less alterations. Well, I got a mermaid dress, and when it came it it was SO exact that I couldn't even sit in it. It fit like it was painted on and was not going to be maneuvered. Despite that, other workers in the salon tried giving their "advice" on how to shimmy it up my waist, clearly not realizing (or trying to minimize) the fact that it was so tight. So instead of ordering a larger size that could be tailored down to me, which might have been easier, I have been going back and forth to the tailor trying to see how much is enough to be let out (thank goodness the dresses have some "give" sewn into them, but it is limited). From other places I have been to since then for my bridesmaids, my understanding (now) is if you are so close in measurements, you should order up for that reason. I'm not sure if my last complaint should be toward the salon, the designer or whoever physically makes the dresses, but figured I should mention it even if only so that other brides who may get a similar dress (anywhere) are aware. This is where the beading detail comes back in. My dress has beading at the neckline and at the waist. The neckline is sweetheart, so the beading makes kind of a "V". Well, I also had gotten a "hollow to hem" measurement (which is an optional but fairly common and helpful measurement) because I am short (5'2") and was told this would help get the right length. I don't know if I misunderstood how that alteration would work or what, but essentially when the dress came in, the point of the "V" from the beading at the neckline now touches/runs into the beading at my waist, because I guess they actually took out some material from the bodice for that measurement. This also made the dress sit a little lower on my frame, and makes it feel less secure in the bust compared to when I had the sample on. So I'm having the tailor do some adjustments up top as well, but unfortunately that one is a little harder because you can't add material back in to get it to come up higher - we just have to make sure it won't go anywhere and feels comfortable enough for me not to fidget with it throughout my wedding day. I question whether the consultants should have known that would happen, and if not, why Winnie's designers don't somehow have ways to prevent the design from getting "skewed" after a common alteration. To me, it's false advertising to let someone try on a dress and agree to an alteration that will make the dress look different when they get it. If they TELL you it will skew it, that's another story. But nope. EDIT: After pointing out what happened to the salon and the tailor's inability to fix, the salon just said the new "fit" in my size is a "matter of personal preference". From the reviews on their corporate location, this is a canned response to most issues you may have and they will NOT let you speak to anyone higher. You are screwed unless it's a totally blatant written mistake. Their service once you've paid is horrible and on their corporate Yelp review responses they simply say they are "sorry" when someone has a service issue. Sure, that makes me feel better after spending what's now running up to $4,000 with alterations for my dress. THANKS! read more

I went to Winnie for my first dress shopping appointment and had the most wonderful experience! As silly as I thought it was prior, I teared up after putting on my very first wedding dress. I tried on multiple others (while sipping champagne) and receiving THE BEST customer service from Casey. I found THE DRESS, but felt it was too good to be true on my first shopping go-round. The next day I went to another bridal shop and just was not impressed. They lacked the friendly, warm smiles and conversation that Winnie had, and the dresses weren't even of the same standard for the price! I flew from CA to Houston to go wedding gown shopping with my future sister-in-law. We went to 4 other bridal salons and this was, by far, the most beautiful and elegant salon. This salon is truly a reflection of "you get what you pay for". The dresses were all stunning and made with gorgeous silk material and beading. The designs varied from simple to elaborate but all with beautiful and elegant detailing. The staff was all very courteous and helpful. The girl we had was very patient and let me tell you, those dresses were not light. The salon was separated into 5 areas, formal gowns, destination wedding gowns, accessories (costume jewelry & veils, bridesmaids gowns and viewing area. The opulent sofas in the semiprivate viewings space had 3 full-length mirrors with a step-up viewing area right outside the changing room. The whole area gave the feel of a very high-end salon. Unlike another salon we went to, the rep allowed us to try on as many dresses as we'd like without telling us to make another appointment if we wanted to try on more styles. Like I had all the time in the world to do this. The price of the dress we finally went with was gorgeous with detailed hand-beading on the sides and the tiered train also had stunning beading for a beautiful back view. As i recall, the dress came out to $3,600 and she also received a $200 credit toward a veil. she chose a complementary veil for $225 so she only had to pay $25 for the veil which had sparkling crystal trimming. The gowns usually takes 6 months to make but since we were shopping in April for an October wedding, we opted to pay an extra cost for the gown to be rushed so we can receive it by September. Winnie charges a $50(?) fee for each month you wish to rush receiving it. So, at least it was reasonable. I also thought the beautiful accessories and shoes they had well thought out and would definitely benefit the bride who may need to complete their outfit . I do have to say that I was disappointed by the selection of bridesmaid dresses. while the designs were all very elegant, I really don't think that the dresses are worth the high price they're charging. I don't remember specifics on the cost since they were just way out of the price range we were looking for, probably around $350, but they were made of silk and pretty basic designs. Once we made our purchase (around noon), we went home and realized that we forgot to get a swatch for ourselves. So, we called and they said that we'd be able to come by in the late afternoon to pick one up. We decided to bring our accessories and asked if we could try on the gown again when we got there to show my brother (no superstition here) and see how they look with all the accessories. Since the store was pretty empty at the time, our rep agreed. She was perfectly sweet and patiently helped put the gown back on along with the veil. I have to say, she had already made the sale and she could've said no to us but she didn't. I was impressed! We had a wonderful experience that day! read more

Edit: 4/29/2010: I wrote the review below before my dress I ordered actually arrived. It turns out that the stylist I worked with was unfamiliar with the use of a tape measure and, despite the fact that I was the same size and weight as when I ordered the dress, it was exceptionally too small. The stylist no longer works at Winnie Couture. After several rounds of new measurements and many discussions, the store ordered another dress for me and it arrived about two weeks before my wedding day. I believe this happened to several brides who ordered their dress around the same time that I did. It was an extremely stressful experience and no one from Winnie Couture apologized to me for the situation or even gave me any real assurance that my dress would arrive in time for my wedding. I am downgrading my original rating to 3 stars because I do love their dresses, but I could not recommend this store to anyone. ---- Original review: This was the only bridal salon I went to which had a "destination wedding" section, which turned out to be exactly what I was looking for even though I am not having a destination wedding. The dresses are sleeker, more refined, and very unique. They do have more traditional styles to choose from, as well, and a large selection overall. The prices are reasonable, between $1000 and $2000 for the destination line. I added a zipper and buttons to my dress, instead of a corset, and the fee was minimal ($70 total). My stylist was extremely helpful and friendly. She pulled dresses which I had selected from the Winnie Couture website, and after seeing what I liked, she pulled a few more in similar styles. The stylists do go into the dressing room with you, which is a little uncomfortable, but I got over it after the first few dresses. Appointments are required, but worth it because you may have the salon all to yourself. read more

So let me start off by saying I'm a Winnie Bride!! I said yes to the dress today 10/16/16!! I had mix feelings about trying on dresses because I don't like trying on clothes or clothes shopping. I do everything online!! Don't get me wrong, I was totally excited about trying on dresses but I was worried about not finding anything. What I loved about Winnie Couture is that you can pick out a few styles and add them to your online "closet" and they will be waiting for you on the day of your appointment. It was very convenient and it was nice To know I had options waiting for me and didn't really have to look. I ended up getting a dress that was picked out by Amanda. Lindsey was my consultant for my appointment (and found out she's also the manager). She is AWESOME! She really made me feel like a princess and had great suggestions. She listen to everything I liked or didn't like about the dresses I tried on. This bridal salon is small but there is plenty of room for your guests to come and see you try on the dresses. The rest of Lindsey's team from today were great. They were just so welcoming and sincere. I never felt like I was trying to be sold on anything. This was my first time trying on dresses and I'm so happy I found my dress here!! You will not be disappointed! Small selection and good customer service. Not to mention that the dresses are beautiful. The only bad thing I can say about the place is that the dressing room is too small. That being said my salesperson didn't even asked me if it was ok for her to help me. She just closed the curtain and told me to take everything off. Everything except my bottoms. Personally I don't feel comfortable having my stuff almost in someones face with very little room to move. We both barely even fit in that dressing room. I would advice them in having more of a bigger fitting room space and to always ask a bride if she needs help rather than assuming. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE I made an appointment with Winnie Couture several weeks in advance. They repeatedly called me to remind me I had an appointment; I found this insulting after the second call. I am a professional with a graduate degree and don't need to be repeatedly reminded about an appointment. My maid of honor and I arrived early for our Saturday afternoon appointment. Rather than being offered a place to sit as with other salons, I had to stand in the foyer by the front door to fill out the form. The form itself asked what I felt were inappropriate questions: name of mother of the bride; name of the mother of the groom; name of flower girl, etc. I was there to look for a dress, not give them my autobiography. After submitting the form, we were left alone so we just stood off to the side in the area where the dresses are. After we had been ignored for awhile, we noticed that a large group that had come in after us had been seated and offered drinks. Turns out that their appointment was at the same time as ours, but they were given priority over us. When my maid of honor inquired about this, one of the sales ladies gave her a snarky answer of "we will get to you soon". When they finally did "get to us", the experience was disappointing, to say the least. We were never offered any refreshments and my maid of honor had to squeeze in at the end of the sofa for a seat. Trying on the dresses became an endurance contest. I wanted to know about the dresses--type of material, how the decorations and lace are applied., hand or machine sewn, etc. Instead the sales person kept asking me inane questions like how did you and your fiance meet? what do you like to do together? (I assume this was part of the required script). When I asked about having a blush colored wedding dress she pulled out a horrid peach lace bridesmaid dress. The only reason my friend and I can think that we were treated this way is because we did not fit their ideal customer profile. We both left feeling like we were not appreciated customers. read more

I'm pretty late at getting everything booked and set for my wedding that's in less than 6 months so I googled bridal stores and Winnie came up. I called and made an appointment for that Saturday at 10am. I showed up 30 min early not knowing at the time that they opened at 10 but they did not seem bothered and started helping me. Amber was helping me and she was absolutely amazing through the entire process. She was very helpful, honest and best of all, very patient. She asked all the right questions and we got to shopping. I basically walked the shop and chose dresses I liked and she also pointed a few that she suggested I try on even if I wasn't planning on that style. She clearly knows what she's doing because the one style I was so sure I'd end up with, did not fit like I hoped it would and the one I said I would not get is the one she suggested and I fell in love with. Not once did I feel rushed. I actually went over the 90 min. appointment. When I finally said yes to the dress, I realized I had already taken 2 hours of her time and I had no idea because everything felt so smooth and calm. I had bummed off my friend's appointment and tried on a dress that I saw on the mannequin. I was very surprised they even let me try it on since it wasn't my appointment. I LOVED the dress and made my own appointment with them; however, since it was way out of my price range I decided to go check out other stores first. I found my dress at Ventura's, but I'm still giving them 5 stars for ultimate service and for not making me feel guilty about cancelling my appointment. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at Winnie couture. My bridal stylist there was Jessica L and she was great. She was kind and didn't make me feel awkward at all but was firm enough to make sure I didn't oscillate back to any dresses that might not be "the one." I also was unable to pick up my dress at the particular location and she went out of her way to make accommodations to ensure I would be able to get the dress of my dreams! Thanks to Winnie couture (and Jessica L) my wedding dress shopping was finished (complete with photo-ops and a champagne toast) within 1.5hrs. I am getting married in July, and this place was the first--and last--place I visited to get a dress. I called on a Sunday and was amazingly able to get a same-day appointment, which is not the norm for this place! Despite the small selection in the display windows, there are many more options. I didn't have a great idea of what I wanted my dress to look like--I just knew I didn't want strapless and didn't want a long train, but I kept an open mind. I also had an idea of my budget. My mom joined me there, and we were offered champagne or water and undivided attention! One of the attendants also connected my phone to their WiFi so I didn't have to use data. Lindsey was my consultant, and she was so sweet and knowledgeable. I showed her some pictures of dresses on my phone I had pinned to Pinterest. She gave me ten dresses to try on, and they all looked so beautiful, but it was only the first dress that really made me smile and that I really connected with, which Lindsey pointed out. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but I had to have it because I looked too good and happy in it! Nor can I imagine finding a better designer dress, regardless of my budget or the time crunch. Tip: There is a base price, but there are also other fees (such as the optional one-month-rush fee, which I did opt for). Plan to spend about an hour there. read more

My dress came in, and it's every bit as gorgeous as I remember it being. Perhaps even more so, since it was made to my exact measurements. I opted to add pearl and crystal embellished cap sleeves after the dress came in, and it was costly to do this, but I'm SO glad I did. I love how you can customize each of their dresses to your liking. The ladies at this shop are all fantastic. They don't just care about closing the sale and making their commission, they follow up with you to ensure that everything is the way you want it to be. I thought I should update since I bought a dress here today. Once I started getting a better idea of what works for me and what I like, it was easier for the saleswoman to help me out. I went for a sample sale and got a lovely gown for 40% off and it's totally me. They also let me try on stuff that they knew I wasn't going to buy which was nice and put up with me being picky in my wanting simple elegance:) I am happy with my gown and I like that it's not just from David's Bridal, and the material is really lovely. read more

After a TERRIBLE experience at Unbridaled we called last minute and luckily they were able to get us in. They were AMAZING, so nice, super accommodating and my daughter found the PERFECT dress. Valerie went above and beyond to make my daughter feel like the most beautiful bride ever.
