I've been coming to Winston's for decades and the food and service is still excellent.

Service was average, food was mediocre at best. Atmosphere was loud and congested. This was my wife and I first visit, not impressed. $140+tip for two. Felt like a chain restaurant. I've spent less for more at other Raleigh restaurants. read more

Very Good - Very Pricey This is a first class restaurant with first class food and drink and first class prices. As they say, 'You get what you pay for'. A great place to celebrate special occasions, meet friends or treat yourself; but a little hard on the wallet for everyday dining. Highly recommend their Chicken Salad Plate (loaded with slightly sweet chicken salad that includes pecans and grapes) and surrounded by mounds of fresh strawberries, grapes, cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Winston's is also a very loud restaurant. Sometimes it's hard to carry on a normal conversation because of all the noise. There might be a quiet corner somewhere in this expansive eatery, but I have not found it yet. read more

My friend and I had a really good lunch experience at Winston's Grille today. We made reservations earlier in the week and were seated on the patio (as requested) as soon as we arrived. The atmosphere of the restaurant is upscale-casual in a very classic, non-modern way. Like many similarly appointed restaurants, it is dimly lit, which would be nice for a date night but may make reading the menu challenging. The patio is lovely and most of the tables are in the shade. One thing to note about the patio is that because you are close to Falls of the Neuse Rd, you can occasionally hear traffic; I'm not sure if there is a fire station nearby, but our conversation was interrupted by sirens on three separate occasions during our hour-and-a-half visit. Our waitress was wonderful- attentive without being overbearing or rushing us. I ordered the summer salmon salad and loved the freshness of ingredients and the grilled salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The cilantro citrus vinaigrette was a slight letdown, in my opinion, as neither the citrus nor the cilantro came across particularly well. I would absolutely order this salad again, but I might go with one of their other dressings - my friend loved the raspberry vinaigrette. Winston's has been our family's favorite restaurant for twenty years! They have never missed the mark no matter the occasion. Whether casual drinks in the bar, business lunches, date night or birthday celebrations , we have always received superb service. Tonight was no exception when our daughter chose Winston's for her twelve year old birthday celebration. Our server Grace made the experience one of the best we have ever had at this gem of a restaurant. Even when challenged by extremely rude customers around us, Grace remained calm, kind and focused on giving her guests an enjoyable dining experience. Vegetarians alert! This place has great options. The vegetarian pasta and stir fry are fantastic! Some minor criticisms however. Overall this is great operation with a variety of options. If you're vegetarian make sure you ask for the separate menu as there really aren't any options on the main menu. Why? I have no idea. Makes it feel like an after thought when in reality it was well thought out with decent options. As vegetarians come to this restaurant, they will feel slighted as the menu is never offered. You get seated with a carnivore menu and that's it. It's 2024, every decent restaurant should be offering vegetarian options... and it took Winston's a while but eventually they got the memo. But c'mon integrate it with the main menu. Plenty of non-vegetarians like to see their plant-based options as well. Not every omnivore eats meat every meal any more. This restaurant is selling itself short by not making these options more widely know. You deserve more credit for the thought that went into these options! Last criticism is the plastic straws - one of the largest pollutants on our planet. You get a plastic straw whether or not you ask for it. If management doesn't want to opt for environmentally friendly straws at least let people choose the plastic straw rather than force it on people. Otherwise no complaints. Winston's is consistently one of our favorites. We love local businesses, and this one has certainly stood the test of time. The food, the service, the atmosphere are all wonderful. The staff seems happy to see us even when we pop in without a reservation. Everyone is welcoming and relaxed, and the food is consistently delicious. First Timer! I've only experienced this place for such a short notice, but they did not disappoint. I cannot remember our server's name, but she My partner & I went to dine in for a quick brunch and we were impressed. They had a lot of great options and varieties of salads to try, but instead we both wanted to explore their sandwiches. I ordered the Country Club, which I was told was a favorite by our server, with a side of fries and ranch dressing. Definitely better than I expected and it came on a croissant. My partner ordered the Monterey Sandwich, another favorite by our server, with a side of fries as well and honey mustard for the dressing. I think we decided to eat here at the right time because when we were leaving, the place was packed and the entire parking lot was filled. I wish I was exaggerating, but there was only 1 row that was filled and then 4 entire rows were filled when we departed. I'm impressed and amazed. My first visit to Winston's Grille on a Monday for my birthday! Good fun with 6 friends. We had a reservation and were seated in the private dining area with a pretty attentive server. I chose one of my favorites the shrimp and grits. Well on the menu it was definitely different from my normal that I've had at other restaurants. But...let's try it! My first impression was that it's gonna be a no...because all I could smell before it even reached the table was garlic...heavy too much garlic. Usually a sign of a try too hard dish. First taste was not to my liking. But the more I ate and stirred the better it tasted. It was a large portion and I ended up taking half home. I was offered the brownie with ice cream as a birthday dessert but I chose the incredible key lime pie. Yummy! That whole dessert tray looked yummy. What our server failed to tell me was that the brownie dessert was complimentary. When she brought it out I knew why...it was only two bites. Anyway that's all I needed because I was full...took my brownie and key lime pie home. Definitely will go back to Winston's! read more

Winston's Grille is amazing! The Ambience, food and service is off the charts fantastic. I've been eating here on and off for many years, all of the above remains consistent every time. I typically get one of the many salads and add my meat of choice, either salmon, steak or chicken, all are super fresh and delicious. While prices have skyrocketed at many restaurants, Winston's prices are very reasonable and the portions are more than generous. My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch today, we sat on the bar side patio and enjoyed a delicious, relaxing meal. Afterwards we both agreed, this may be the best kept secret in Raleigh. Their homemade lemonade was delicious - a perfect blend of sweet and tart. Our party of five had the following dishes: shrimp and grits; ribeye; chicken pasta. Everyone loved their meal. The tomatoes in the shrimp and grits and in the pasta dishes were reminiscent of my great grandmother's homemade stewed tomatoes. They were phenomenal!!!!!! My husband's ribeye was melt in your mouth tender and seasoned perfectly. The best part of our meal was when Diane apologized for being wrong about them being out of the strawberry shortcake. This is my husband's and mother-in-law's favorite dessert. Their faces lit up immediately and before Diane could ask, 3 shortcakes were ordered as well as 2 lemon meringue cheesecakes. We came here to attend a dinner with a group. They have a great room to accommodate us. Waitstaff was friendly and efficient. We started with a delicious house salad. I had the creamy vinaigrette dressing. Probably one of the best salads I've had in a while. I want to come back and get that salad with some grilled chicken on top. My main course was cashew crusted salmon. Lightly pan fried. It was yummy. Served on a bed of rice and some sautéed veggies. Hubby had the London broil. He loved it. The food here rocks !! We came here to celebrate Valentine's Day on the 15th. We made a reservation in advance and they called us to confirm the afternoon of. We were running late and called to let them know and they were very accommodating. We started with the blue cheese chips and crab cake appetizers. The service was fast so we got our appetizers quickly. The crab cakes were flaky and and the rice they came with was light and tasty. The blue cheese chips took us by surprise because the portion is very generous. We had no trouble finishing them though. The queso was okay but it's the homemade chips that made it delicious. For our mains, we ordered shrimp tacos and a whole rack of ribs. The tacos were very tasty but the rice and beans stole the show. The portion was very large and I was only able to finish one taco. The ribs were very tender and the sauce was really good. The slaw had a creamy taste that was excellent. Overall it was a great meal. read more

Wonderful experience for a birthday dinner! Didn't have any reservations and only had to wait about 8 minutes for a lovely outdoor patio table. The establishment is classy and beautiful! Ordered calamari as an appetizer (loved the various dipping sauces), the black & bleu salad (no cheese, dressing on the side) which had lots of flavor and the chicken was cooked well, and even got a free birthday brownie & icecream. I spent a few days in Raleigh and without a doubt my experience at Winston's was the best. First, their blackened Salmon I would absolutely hands down say is the best I have ever had, and I've had some $50+ salmon entrees over the years, usually on my company's dime, at some very high end restaurants. I genuinely don't know how they get their salmon so buttery soft while cooking it enough to make the skin so crispy and sear in the blackened seasonings on the whole fish. The food was just ok. We had been told that this was considered a fine dining restaurant so we were expecting 5 star food. It was more like a 3. While I would say that my prime rib was great, no one else at the table liked their food. The side of mashed potatoes with each meal tasted like they had been cooked in water that also contained fish. The ribeye was tough and the vegetables were an odd mix of squash and corn? I ordered the Sesame Tuna Salad, "6 oz. sesame encrusted tuna steak, wasabi and teriyaki drizzle...." When the $20.95 salad arrived, it was a beautiful presentation. The tuna was cooked "just warm"--excellent. The wasabi/teriyaki sauce was applied way, WAY too much--on the tuna and even on the greens. The salad was NOT eatable. I told our waiter and asked for some napkins to remove the extreme heat. He did not offer to send the salad back but did provide the napkins (see photo). Regretfully, I could not remove enough of the sauce to enjoy the fine tuna. The tuna salad was a take-off of Japanese tuna, which is served with wasabi, teriyaki and pickled ginger. In Japan, the wasabi is served separately, and the customer mixes the wasabi and teriyaki in a small dish to his desired heat level. Then one dips a piece of tuna (using chopsticks) into the mixture--getting the desired amount of spice. This place wasn't my favorite. Went here because people spoke highly of this place. However, sometimes expensive and fancy isn't always the best. The saving grace here was our server, she was really sweet and although I got fries when I asked for green beans, she realized what was wrong and was quick to bring me green beans. It was my Aunt's birthday and they brought out a mix little birthday surprise as well which was sweet. I really liked the lighting of this place as well. I always tend to feel more comfortable eating if the lights are dim as if I'm in my own home. The food itself was nothing too impressive, it was lacking flavor in my opinion. We ordered two different appetizers but our server accidentally forgot to put one of them in which is fine, the one we got was still pretty good which was the crab dip with bread. I had a grilled chicken salad at Winston's on 5/18/24 and about 1-2 hours after developed stomach cramps, bloat, and other issues. I did not feel better until 5/23/24. I had food poisoning. This salad is a staple for me every time I visit Winston's. Will not return. read more

A Raleigh Institution. Can't go wrong with anything. I love to start with the Hand Rolled Sushi. Black and Blue Salad is World Famous or should be. Anytime I have an out of town guest that gets that and comes back into town it is requested we return to Winston's. Shrimp and Grits and I usually try the specials which is hard because they are so good and they are just that specials. Also have many GF options. Save room for dessert. Winston's is not particularly close to my home, but I have eaten there many times over many years. The food is above average and priced accordingly. Service is above average, but the waitstaff seems to have too many tables, and/or the beverage service is understaffed. Parking can be a challenge, but once inside the decor is quite nice. The rating speaks most to the consistency of the food quality. I've never had a bad meal there and that is a hard standard to maintain over an entire decade. read more

We has the best server in Raleigh, NC on Sunday "Areli"! She was outstanding, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the menu, anticipated our every need meaning we didn't have to ask for anything because it was already there. I had to write this because I was blown away today. There was a large party during lunch with women in scrubs. There was an African American lady bringing their food (idk if she was the manager?). Anyway they asked her for a few things and I swear to you she turned around and rolled her eyes. My whole table saw. The party must have been 20+ and you roll your eyes? You couldn't have at least waited when customers couldn't see you? Secondly I don't know if our waitress was high or what was going on but she was forgetful, she didn't check on us and wasn't the most pleasant. Is this how you treat your customers? Came here unexpectedly on a Saturday night at 8:30 with no reservation and was seated immediately. The server was not the greatest however the food was decent. We had the sushi nachos which were pretty good but they fall apart. The crab dip was way too salty and fishy flavored. Also the big hunk of melted cheese on top made it difficult to serve up. We ordered the baby back ribs and the prime rib for dinner. Both were OK, nothing too fabulous. Visited tonight for dinner - very glad that we made reservations as it was very busy at almost 6 pm. We were seated right away, hostess was very sweet. Our server was very nice and extremely attentive. We ordered the crab dip to start, it was quite good. For entrees we went with BLT salad and a prime rib with broccoli. My husband liked his salad and said the garlic ranch dressing was good. My prime rib was just ok, for $29.99 it wasn't very flavorful. My broccoli was nearly cold on arrival, I ate about 1/3 of my serving. Dinner total was $75 before tip and honestly wasn't worth that. It's fine, I never had anything terrible or spectacular at Winston's. The decor is a little old-fashioned for me.

We enjoyed this classic Raleigh restaurant! She sat us in the room to the back left of the bar that you walk up 3 steps into it. I had the London Broil (what a classic!) and he had the Chicken Pasta. Even though the London Broil has vegetables and potatoes listed on the description of the menu, you can switch them out for french fries, etc with no problem. I ordered the blueberry pomegranate martini which was very nice. The food portions were large so there was no room for dessert. Maybe next time??!! Great place to go on a date or meet your parents. It is hard to choose a really good restaurant today. This restaurant gives you that down home vibe & home cooked meal menu. The Backyard Rotisserie Chicken with mash potatoes & collards was shockingly good. Especially the collards. The lemon-lime beurre blanc topping makes the Cashew Salmon very moist & flaky. The staff is amazing. (Can't say this for most of Raleigh restaurants today) All of the servers we met are welcomingly joyful but Kristian and Khalilah are the young ladies to ask for. They never stop! They will not disappoint! The manager Mary Katherine gives a touch of family warmth to make you feel right at home!
