I didn't come here expecting much maybe a quick meal, a brief distraction. I certainly didn't expect to leave feeling like some old wound had been gently, surprisingly tended. I ordered with a kind of reckless hunger, as if I was trying to feed something far older than my stomach. From the menu I chose: * A1 Soup Dumplings XLB - Pork, their delicate skins stretched thin over fragrant, molten broth. * A4 Shrimp Dumplings Ha Gow, almost translucent, little parcels of the ocean. * C17 Braised Beef Egg Noodle Soup, a steaming bowl big enough to cradle between my hands like a secret. * D1 Portuguese Egg Tarts, golden and warm, because I wanted to end on something sweet and nostalgic, even if my childhood was never filled with desserts like these. * And a hot milk tea, rich and creamy, sweet enough to soften the edges of the day. My order was for take out. I walked in right after they opened & 3 ppl were standing at the work station, not far away from the ordering kiosk. All of them looked at me & didn't speak a word to me. I ordered, sat down, & waited. Still, no one acknowledged my presence. I was sitting there & after a while I saw them looking on their computer screen & then looking at me. I asked them if there was a problem w/my order. The man said no & it would be out shortly. After a bit longer, he gave me my food. At that time I pointed out to him that maybe they should acknowledge their customers when they come in. I was the only person there! He said "oh, we saw you"....well, you could've said at least hello! Now the food...1 order of something w/the black pepper sauce, 1 order of something w/the cheese sauce. It took 10 minutes after ordering to get water and another 25 minutes to get our food. We received dirty silverware and struggled to get help from staff. Stopped in for a late lunch at 2pm on a Saturday and 2 open tables so didn't have to wait! My wife and I got the wonton noodle soup and a tomato pork cutlet over rice. And a random order of the steamed chicken feet lol I have to say.. the WONTONS here are HK LEGIT. It's the closest I've ever had, in the Bay Area atleast, to a Hong Kong style wonton. Thin wrapper, full flavored and perfectly sized bites of goodness. Noodles were ok. Nothing to report on the pork cutlet dish though. It's exactly what I expected with taste so it just hit the expectation on the nose. Steam chicken feet was also consistent and what we expected. It's a total mess! I understand it's newly opened but the wait, the service nor the food were up to par. We ordered the baked pork chop rice with tomato sauce, baked pork chop rice with white creamy sauce and beef chow fun. Iced milk tea and iced lemon tea. We waited 20 minutes and only one pork chop rice with tomato sauce came, then waited another 15 mins for the other pork chop rice to come. I asked to have some water but no avail. Then another 15 minutes they brought another pork chop rice which I said my order was beef chow fun. The server didn't apologize and said they would cook it now and walked away. I was about to say maybe I'll just take that pork chop rice as I was extremely hunger and didn't want to wait, but he just walked away and said it would only take one minute for the beef chow fun. Of course there's another 10 minutes wait. When the beef chow fun finally arrived I immediately noticed it wasn't right as the color of the chow fun was pale white. I took a bite to confirm there wasn't any seasoning and was tasteless!!!! I told the server it's tasteless and all he said was to cancel it. I looked at him and went speechless!!! I was starving and all he said was to cancel the order??!!! He then said 'oh the machine wasn't working properly thus no seasoning was added'!!! Excuse me?!!! You blame the machine? Anyone saw the color of the dish would know something's missing!!! He then said he could add back some seasoning or cancel the order. I asked if I could just take the pork chop rice and he said no, I didn't see any options but waited for them to add back seasoning. Finally the beef chow fun arrived in another 10 minutes. (I should have but forgotten to take picture of the beef chow fun without seasoning, the picture shown was after they re-did it, and the color was still on the lighter side) Overall, the taste of the dishes weren't bad, portions were small, but the entire experience was so unpleasant, I m not sure if I would come back nor recommend to anyone. Wait .... One more thing! The milk tea was absolutely BAD!!! It's like milk sugary drink. HK milk tea is a staple drink of any hk style cafe and this is by far the worst I have ever had!!! I also overheard some other customers complain about the wait time for their orders. If anyone wanna try, maybe get prepared to wait and don't expect too much.
