Baked Sole w/ Cream of Corn (bit under seasoned)

Second time here and tried something different today. Last time I got the white sauce fish over rice. This baked pork chops was my JAM! Taste almost like sweet and sour sauce. If you're NOT into sweet food, this will NOT be your jam.

Pork Chops (2) with Black Bean Sauce! Absolutely DELISH, had a kick too!

We decided to try this place after seeing a great Facebook review from Adonis, and I'm glad we did. The food was absolutely amazing overall. The table next to us drove all the way from San Jose to try this place because they saw his review as well. Crazy huh? The only dish I wouldn't order again is the oxtail soup. Personally, I'm allergic to tomatoes, and for $10 the portion felt small like a cup and consisted mostly of vegetables with very little oxtail. That said, the pork chop in black bean sauce was outstanding -- incredibly flavorful and easily the highlight of the meal. The wings were also very good. Had some Hong Kong Milk Tea and loved it! We wanted to try the roast pork, but that is a Sunday special so we will definitely come on a Sunday to try it out. Overall, a great experience, and We'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

Chinese American cafe food in the Sunset. Full dinners with Soup, Entree, Coffee / Tea / Milk Tea, and Jello! They also have daily specials and the nicest Owner / Boss Lady and her Staff of Aunties. We went on a Wednesday night and had their Pork Cutlet Special. Also had the Lightly Egg Battered Filet of Sole and their Garlic Lamb Chops. All were solid! My 97yo MIL ate up the Filet of Sole as it was tasty and easy to eat. Wife had the gigantic Pork Cutlet with Brown Gravy while I went for the Lamb (4 ribs with a lot of garlic nibs). All were good with plenty to take home! Choice of Chinese Spaghetti or White Rice... What? You never had Chinese Spaghetti? If you grew up in an old school Chinese household you will know Chinese Spaghetti as a sweet sauced spaghetti...think Chef BoyrDee or Jollibee spaghetti sauce! Love it. Service is excellent with Cantonese, English, and Mandarin speakers. They fill your hot drinks constantly! Lots of tables and the place does a very good Oi Mey or take out service.

Portions are generous and satisfying. The meal also comes with soup and jello, giving it that classic Hong Kong café set meal feel and making it extra comforting. The space is simple and no-frills, with a true neighborhood vibe and a loyal local crowd. The staff are consistently attentive and make sure you're well taken care of.

No frills and no gimmick HK cafe! There are very good HK cafes in the Easy Bay so I had to hit one up when I was in the city! I got the chicken and mushroom spaghetti with a side of lemon iced tea and my gosh the portions were insane! Super gigantic for the value! The chicken was thigh meat so you get the nice, juicy, tender dark meat. The mushrooms were a very good complement to the gravy and the spaghetti was al dente. The dish came with a borscht soup, which was also equally as delicious! Iced Lemon tea was nice and cold, filled with tons of lemon and sweet just like how it should be. All in all, super solid spot!

Restaurant has been here for over 30 years. Consistently delicious food. But, please do not expect exceptional service. Server takes your order and brings food. It can get busy once the weekend starts. We came on a Friday evening. There were plenty of available tables around 5:30 pm, but then past 6 pm, all the tables were taken. It's a popular place and I think there are many loyal customers, including us.

    Ngai cha (HK milk tea)

I really miss my childhood here, with the old sticky tables and the sub $10 prices. Nowadays, Cafe Bakery is much cleaner and brighter for double the price for things (most dishes are $18+). All entrees come with some form of soup, veggies and carb (rice/spaghetti), as well as dessert (jello). It's often pretty crowded here, although turnover is quick. Bear in mind that it's more Westernized than normal HK places. I'd recommend trying the daily specials. They serve the HK borsch soup and ngai cha (milk tea) with it, which is nice. I had the chicken curry spaghetti with cheese, which was very tasty but also very heavy. The meat is so tender you could cut it with a fork. Portion sizes are huge, which is a plus, but takeout containers are 25-50 cents, so you might want to bring your own. Staff speaks limited English and Cantonese is preferred, but they're super nice. I'd recommend Cafe Bakery for sure but locals will probably remember its glory days better.

Hong Kong style cafe in the sunset. This place has a rotating menu of monthly specials for 19.95 for an entree, drink (hot) and dessert (jelly). The food came in big portions that can last two meals! Food was the pork cutlet, black pepper steak, chicken steak, Portuguese chicken, and oxtail. The pork cutlet came with a sauce that I wasn't a fan of, and the chicken steak tomato sauce could have been less sweet and more tangy. The oxtail was tender with lots of pieces. The Portuguese chicken came with a curry gravy topping with potatoes. All of the entrees come with a small bowl of Russian borsch soup. The chicken wings and fries were delicious and it was 6 chicken wings with a bunch of fries. This place uses Heinz ketchup and has hot sauce available upon request. They refill your milk tea and it comes with evaporated milk. There is sugar you can add (Splenda and C&H). Service was excellent and they checked in on us a couple times. They do charge $0.25 per box and bag. This is a gem in the city for Hong Kong style food at an affordable prices. Tip: the curry beef brisket is only available when it is the daily special (Friday for May)

    茄汁焗猪扒

The portion of the food was big. I love the 茄汁焗猪扒 baked pork chops with tomato sauce. It was delicious and the pork chops were chewy. The whole store gave me an old Hong Kong style. The staffs are responsive and serve you quickly. They have special deal for meals every da, and each day is different. Make sure you go early because sometimes at dinner time could be a line.

    Sunday special
    Tony Z.

We always come here on Sundays to get the special roast pork. It's so good, you wouldn't believe. I grew up coming here, but after moving away from the city every time I'm back I have to stop by. The pork is a little salty, but pairs perfectly with rice. Portions are also huge, so we always share. The special comes with a side of tomato soup and a hot choice of your drink. Definitely worth a try

    Oxtails

This place has our favorite oxtail rice plate, and ox tongue rice plate served with veggies and smothered in tomatoe sauce. Well worth the drive from the East Bay.

Garlic salmon, no rice, sub vegetables
    Becca S.

Decided to try this spot on a Friday afternoon. Because I ate a lot of rich food the previous day, I didn't feel like the Friday special (curry beef brisket.). So I ordered the garlic salmon. I was promptly seated and waiter took my order promptly. The cream soup came very quickly, however it was just okay. The salmon came after 10-15 minutes but it was perfect. It's crispy on the outside and tender inside, covered with crispy garlic, it was full of flavor, color, and fragrance. They did give you a small jello as dessert. It's nothing special, but it's the thought that counts. I'm allergic to caffeine so the lemon tea / coffee / milk tea is wasted on me. The place was 75% full and looked to be full of locals. It was moderately loud. I'd return to try other main dishes in the future.

This place had the best bbq buns in the bay. Are they ever coming back?

I know, totally best pork buns! Sadly, they are not bringing back the bakery part.

Is Cafe Bakery still opened? I have called multiple times these last two weeks and no one picks up. Found out they are closed until 7/1.

Not sure. I called like 3 weeks ago and ordered Togo.. They were opened.

    Is their bakery reopened yet?

Not as of a week ago

Are they open on new year 1/1/2022?

    Is there indoor dining?

Yes but you need to show proof of vaccination

When is the bakery side going to re-open?

i just called the restaurant to see if the bakery side is open tomorrow- the lady that answered the phone says that they are closed tomorrow and does not know if they plan on reopening

We happened upon a small restaurant on Noriega Street with only a 3.3 star rating and about 233 reviews. To be honest, we were hesitant at first, but decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise! We ordered a bowl of roasted duck wonton noodle soup and a half Hainan chicken. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, the broth was flavorful, the wontons were satisfying, and the Hainan chicken was tender and well-seasoned. The service was friendly, attentive, and remarkably quick. As an added bonus, we received two complimentary glasses of lemon tea during their happy hour (3 PM-5 PM), which was a thoughtful touch. The restaurant was bustling with customers, a good sign that the locals know something the ratings don't seem to reflect. The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and we left happy and impressed. We're still wondering how this place has only a 3.3-star rating, because our experience was far better than expected. We will definitely be back.

The two of us ordered from the breakfast menu. We got the steamed satay beef rice noodle and the steamed shrimp rice noodle roll. Both meals came with a drink. I chose the hot milk tea, and my friend got the black soybean drink. The steamed shrimp rice noodle roll was very thin and silky. It's not thick like the ones at some other places. Their sweet soy sauce has a nice balance of sweetness, which I really liked. As for the steamed satay beef rice noodle, it didn't have a very strong satay flavor. If you're a fan of bold satay, you might find it a bit mild. However, since I don't like satay that much, I thought the flavor was just right. There were several other breakfast items on the menu that caught my eye, and I'd like to come back to try them. The restaurant is clean and has both tables and booths. Parking is also quite easy, as there is plenty of street parking nearby.

We arrived on a Saturday and were quoted a 30-40 minute wait for a table, which was reasonable given how busy the restaurant was. Food: The portions were generous, but the food quality was average. What was more concerning was the long wait time. We placed our order at 12:02 PM and only 3 of the 5 dishes arrived within a reasonable time. One dish took about 35 minutes to come out, and unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait. The fifth dish never arrived, and we eventually had to ask the waitress to cancel it because we had already finished eating. The fried rice was probably the only item we would return for. Service: Service was mediocre. The restaurant was crowded, so some delays were understandable. However, the staff seemed distracted and spent a lot of time talking with who appeared to be the manager or owner, who was occupying a booth while many customers were still waiting to be seated. After placing our order, there was little to no follow-up from the staff. No one checked on our table to see if we needed anything or if everything was satisfactory, so customers really need to keep track of their own orders. Atmosphere: The restaurant felt overly crowded, with very little space to move around. At times it felt somewhat claustrophobic. Payment: Cash and credit cards accepted
