Whisky Tuesday you get 1/2 off on a variety of whisky. They also have barrel picks from many different distilleries. We love the food and they change the menu each season. Come try the seasonal cocktails. And if you really love the place every December they have an advent whiskey calendar. Each day in the month of December they have a special on a whiskey for you to try. If you finish the calendar you get a name plate for the wall of fame... This is a very fun place and we always enjoy meeting new people at the bar. So if your in Redmond and you love cocktails and Whiskey then you need to try this place. Though my experience with "Gastrobubs" is limited having never been to England, the ambience is fun and busy. Service was good, and rightfully so, since you are afforded a two hour time limit. This place used to be a favorite. I've dined here many times since it opened and many times again after the pandemic. Until today, I was a weekly regular, usually for lunch (with coworkers or as a team outing) and occasionally for dinner, too. At some point a couple of months ago, it started getting bad. Rude waitstaff, condescending upsells, baffling flavor choices in the food. I was disgusted enough by a couple of recent items and annoyed enough about a string of unpleasant service experiences that I decided to drop in today to check with the manager and maybe avoid writing this review. I told the person who greeted me that I had been a regular for many years and asked if the place had changed ownership or was otherwise under new management. She confirmed that there had recently been a management change but otherwise didn't have much time for me. Or any time. She showed no curiosity when I said that I had had some bad experiences recently, and, as I left, she obnoxiously sing-songed "have a nice day" in a way that seemed more like "don't let the door hit you on the..." Which kind of sums up my whole experience there lately. They've had some staff turnover, so a couple of the original people still greet me as a regular. (Though, weirdly, not the one guy... When I had to return my burger last week, he seemed baffled at my claim that I had ordered it many times before, even though he himself has served it to me time and again. And when he occasionally hosts has never once said "welcome back" to me.) Anyway, the new staff are rude and self-important. One of them admonished me for putting a plate on the neighboring empty table when our own small table filled up (because we had ordered a cartoonish amount of food). That same server (I think) recently swapped my lunch order with my friend's, then just walked away when he pointed it out. Maybe that seems like a small thing, but it's not acceptable. Don't leave us to handle each other's food. I don't want my buddy pawing my plate with his grubby little hands. That's your job. One evening a couple of months ago, I found myself haggling with a bartender who refused to tell me the prices of their bourbon (specifically, their lowest) and kept trying to trick/upsell me into buying a $20 or $30 pour. I eventually got my ~$15 Elijah (which is a reasonable price in Redmond), but only after he snottily suggested I might prefer Fireball instead. When I said I wanted their well bourbon he should have simply poured me something cheap (Elijah, Maker's, Bulleit, etc.) and been done with it instead of making a big deal about how, as an incredibly pretentious and fancy whisk(e)y bar, they don't have a "well" bourbon because what kind of a place do you think this is and maybe bourbon isn't for you. Even with the Elijah Craig, he *still* tried to talk me into paying for some "exclusive" version allegedly barreled just for them. I mean, come on. I had planned to hang out there and maybe toss back a few more, but went away fuming after finishing my meal. The food is also bad now. I took a chance on a cheesesteak special a couple of weeks ago. The smell from the moistly sauteed jalapeno was so pungent and the slimy/frothy/snotty appearance of the yellow "cheese" sauce was so disgusting that I couldn't even manage a bite. It made me gag. Last week I ordered the burger, which I've had many times, and was shocked that it tasted heavily of vinegar, like the patty had been doused in some kind of dressing. I think maybe it was, but also discovered that the usual slice of onion had been replaced with some kind of thinly sliced raw (or pickled?) onions soaked in a very vinegar-forward sauce and placed below the patty, directly on the bun, so it would be the first thing you taste. The burger had also been charred to the point of carbonization (they refused to cook it medium rare for me this time because, according to the waiter, the chef thought the meat was too fatty). The combination of the bitter char and the sour vinegar with no sweetness to balance it out was awful. I sent it back and decided to skip lunch that day. It's a newish crew and new management, so they can change it up, I suppose. I'm just bummed to lose this place, particularly since I recently moved back to Redmond for a new job and live right down the street. But between the chef's recent embrace of terrible flavors and the increasingly rude, arrogant vibe of the waitstaff, I will never go back. read more

Parking is limited to 2 hours street parking or 3 hours free public parking in the back. The inside of the place is not so big, but it is a comfortable place. I have been to Woodblock multiple times and have enjoyed every experience. I particularly enjoy the outdoor seating in the summer time. Indoor seating is also great and the restaurant has a really cool bar area. Service is great. I notice a lot of the same staff each time I go which is wonderful to see. Making reservations is really easy and anytime I haven't made a reservation I haven't had to wait long. Woodblock burger is delicious. Add-on's can get pricey. Brisket Mac and cheese is my go-to and WOW is it good! My only complaint about the menu other than add-on pricing is I wish there were a few more main entree options. For drinks, the pecan pie porter was delicious and the glass of Pinot Grigio hit the spot. I'd love to try some of their signature cocktails sometime. Overall highly recommend! read more

Scotch eggs - delicious and delicate. A soft boiled egg surrounded by a very thin layer of sausage and breadcrumbs then deep fried. I opted for the 2 egg option for my meal. It's enough if you're not terribly hungry. But also a great appetizer to share! It's good and has simple flavors. Croque madame - large sandwhich with a small side salad. It's a nice balance between a crunchy sourdough bread and a warm bechamel sauce. Albeit, my preference is for a soggier sandwich (like French toast) without a hard crust. Even though we had a group of 6, we were able to get seated promptly at a table and only had to wait a few minutes. The inside is pretty nice with modern wooden surfaces, and the waiters here were quite accommodating. The food also came out quickly, which was nice as we were pretty hungry. I decided to get the biscuit, sausage gravy, and fried chicken dish as well as the Scotch Egg. The Scotch egg was crispy on the outside, with flavor bursting on the inside and a tasty sauce on top. The fried chicken with the sausage gravy and biscuits were solid, and definitely fulfilled my brunch cravings. The prices here were fairly reasonable, and I was satisfied with the portions that I got. They were both fantastic - we kept talking about it so much that we went back for a full dinner the next night! We walked up and all the staff recognized us from the previous night...even though we had only been there for thirty minutes or so! So sweet! This is definitely one of the best, if not the best casual American dining places in the area. Every time I've come across Woodblock it's always packed and full of rich drunk Microsoft employees. Making it a fun loud atmosphere with really strong drinks and funny people! My whole family came in around 8pm on a Tuesday and it was PACKED!! We didn't have reservations but to our suprise they were able to imedietly get us a seat! The women who took us to our table seemed kind of high, but hey it added to the fun atmosphere to the place. Suprisingly the service was decent for how busy it was, though all the workers here did seem kind of stressed. We were brought our food and drinks about 10 minutes after placing our order and it was all delicious!! I was very happy with each dish we ordered though I wouldn't expect less from a place like this. I couldn't recommend the tomato soup enough, it was some of the best I've found in the area. To top our meal off we ordered dessert, 2 scoops of ice cream, strawberry shortcake and passionfruit. Both the ice creams were pretty decent but very overpriced for the quality and size of the scoops. We had our eye on the carrot cake as well and knew we had to give it a try, which absolutely didn't disappoint! We had the falafel bites as an appetizer which were pretty decent with some good dipping sauces. I had the kale salad and added grilled chicken which was amazing and delicious..if you're considering a salad I recommend this one! My husband had the salmon cake burger and he loved it. We loved the great atmosphere inside... around 12:00 it got pretty packed with people from the area coming in for lunch.
